• Is there a simple way to convert MySQL data into Title Case?

  I have a MySQL table where all the data in one column was entered in UPPERCASE, but I need to convert in to Title Case, with recognition of "small words" akin to the Daring Fireball Title Case script. I found this excellent solution for transforming strings to lowercase, but the Title Case function seems to have been left out of my version of MySQL. Is there an elegant way to do this?

• UITextView insert text in the textview text

  I want to have to occasionally insert text into the UITextView text object. For example, if the user presses the "New Paragraph" button I would like to insert a double newline instead of just the standard single newline. How can I go about such? Do i have to read the string from UITextView, mutate it, and write it back? Then how would I know where the pointer was? Thanks

• Passing parameters to a flash movie inserted in a VB program

  Hi! I need to insert a Flash movie in a Visual Basic 2008 express form and send parameters to the movie, but am a newbie to VB. The flash movie will plot points sent by VB in a graph. I tried to insert the Shockwave Flash control in the form but cannot find it anywhere. So I inserted the webbrowser control, which I understand can be used to a similar purpose. But how would I send the values of X and Y (coordinates to plot in Flash) to the flash swf? Thanks for any help!

• Quick way to create JSF custom component

  I know of two ways of creating custom JSF components: 1. Native JSF way: creating JSF component class, tag, etc. 2. Facelets way: defining component in a xhtml file and then creating appropriate decrption in facelets taglib. Currently I work on a project in which introducing facelets is unfortunately out of the question. On the other hand, creating custom components the standard JSF way seems like a pain in the ass. Is there maybe a third party library that allows creating custom components in the way similar to facelets but doesn't entail the need of using non-standard renderer?

  Hi All, I'm having a bit of trouble with regex's (C#, ASP.NET), and I'm pretty sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong. My task is to bind a dynamically created gridview to a datasource, and then iterate through a column in the grid, looking for the string "A&I". An example of what the data in the cell (in template column) looks like is: Name: John Doe Phone: 555-123-1234 Email: john[email protected] Dept: DHS-A&I-MRB Here's the code I'm using to find the string value: foreach(GridViewRow gvrow in gv.Rows) { Match m = Regex.Match(gvrow.Cells[6].Text,"A&I"); if(m.Success) { gvrow.ForeColor = System.Drawing.Color.Red; } } I'm not having any luck with any of these variations: "A&I" "[A][&][I]" But when I strictly user "&", the row does turn red. • Javascript Detect Control Key Held on Mouseup

  I've searched a good deal, and can't seem to find a satisfactory solution. I hope someone can help. While I am using jQuery, I am also writing many thousands of lines of Javascript. So a "pure" javascript solution is just fine. I'm trying to determine if the control key is physically held down on a mouseup event. That's it; there are no other preconditions. Does anyone know how to do this reliably, cross-browser? • How to decode Google spreadsheet's Json respose as a Php Array

  My google Docs Spreadsheet call returns this response in the json format (I only need everything after "rows") please look at the formatted response here : ) I use php's json_decode function to parse the data and use it (Yes, I am awful at php) This code returns NULL, and according to the documentation, NULL is returned "if the json cannot be decoded". $json = file_get_contents($jsonurl); $json_output = json_decode($json); var_dump ($json_output); // Returns NULL Basically, what i want to accomplish is to make a simple array from the first row values of the Json response. like this $array = {'john','John Handcock','[email protected]','2929292','blanc'} You guys are genius, I would appreciate your insight and help on this very much! Answer as "sberry2A" mentions bellow, the response is not valid Json, google offers the Zend Json library for this purpose, tho I decided to parse the tsv-excel version instead :)

• "Work stealing" vs. "Work shrugging (tm)"?

  Why is it that I can find lots of information on "work stealing" and nothing on a "work shrugging(tm)" as a load-balancing strategy? I am surprised because work-stealing seems to me to have an inherent weakness when implementating efficient fine-grained load-balancing. Vis:- Relying on consumer processors to implement distribution (by actively stealing) begs the question of what these processors do when they find no work? None of the work-stealing references and implementations I have come across so far address this issue satisfactorarily for me. They either:- 1) Manage not to disclose what they do with idle processors! [Cilk] (?anyone know?) 2) Have all idle processors sleep and wake periodically and scatter messages to the four winds to see if any work has arrived [e.g. JAWS] (= way too latent & inefficient for me). 3) Assume that it is acceptable to have processors "spinning" looking for work ( = non-starter for me!) Unless anyone thinks there is a solution for this I will move on to consider a "Work Shrugging(tm)" strategy. Having the task-producing processor distribute excess load seems to me inherently capable of a much more efficient implementation. However a quick google didn't show up anything under the heading of "Work Shrugging" so any pointers to prior-art would be welcome. tx Tags I would have added if I was allowed to [work-stealing]

• Linux bash: when to use egrep instead of grep?

  Hi all : I am preparing for a Linux terminal assessment now, I tried to Google and found most resources are referring to the basic "grep" rather than the more powerful "egrep" -- well, that is at least what the professor said in lecture. I am always working with small samples so performance tuning is a thing too far away. So basically I'd like to know are there any areas where I must switch to egrep to do it in a better way? Is it safe to work with basic "grep" as for now? will there be potential risks? Sorry about my limited knowledge on Linux shell commands, the man page looks like a maze to me and honestly I haven't put much time in understanding all the features both command provide.

• SSH Chown problems

  I have a webserver with multiple domain and user accounts setup. Recently I renamed one of the domain names and changed it's username correspondingly. However, this new user cannot access the data from the domain because it does not have the required permissions. How can I solve this problem? I've tried chown and I still cannot get access to the files. I have SSH root access and this is the only way I can actually move/touch the files but the webserver displays the file through another username which does not have access to the files. Thanks

• Possible to set monthCalendar to show current month and previous 2 months?

  In a WinForms (3.5) application there is form with a monthCalendar control. The calendar control has a calendarDimension of 3 columns by 1 row. This means that it currently shows June, July, August of 2010. Is it possible to have the calendar to show April, May, June of 2010 instead? My dataset doesn't have any future dates so the date selection will be for current or older dates.

• How to scale a sprite image without losing color key information?

  Hello everyone, I'm currently developing a simple application that displays map and draws some markers on it. I'm developing for Windows Mobile, so I decided to use DirectDraw and Imaging interfaces to make the application fast and pretty. The map moves when user moves finger on the touchscreen, so the whole map moving/scrolling animation has to be fast, but it is not. On every map update I have to draw portion of the map, control buttons, and markers - buttons and markers are preloaded on DirectDraw surface as a mipmap. So the only thing I do is BitBlit from the mipmap to a back buffer, and from the back buffer to a primary surface (I can't use page flipping due to the windowed mode of my application). Previously I used premultiplied-alpha surface with 32 bit ARGB pixel format for images mipmap, everything was looking good, but drawing entire "scene" was horribly slow - i could forget about smooth map scrolling. Now I'm using mipmap with native (RGB565) pixel format and fuchsia (0xFF00FF) color key. Drawing is much better my mipmap surface is generated on program loading - images are loaded from files, scaled (with filtering) and drawn on mipmap. The problem is, that image scaling process blends pixel colors, and those pixels which are on the border of a sprite region are blended with surrounding fuchsia pixels resulting semi-fuchsia color that is not treated as color key. When I do blitting with color key option, sprites have small fuchsia-like borders, and it looks really bad. How to solve this problem? I can use alpha blitting, but it is too slow - even in ARGB 1555 format.

• joining tables while keeping the Null values

  I have two tables: Users: ID, first_name, last_name Networks: user_id, friend_id, status I want to select all values from the users table but I want to display the status of specific user (say with id=2) while keeping the other ones as NULL. For instance: If I have users: 1 John Smith 2 Tom Summers 3 Amy Wilson And in networks: user_id friend_id status 2 1 friends I want to do search for John Smith for all other users so I want to get: id first_name last_name status 2 Tom Summers friends 3 Amy Wilson NULL I tried doing LEFT JOIN and then WHERE statement but it didn't work because it excluded the rows that have relations with other users but not this user. I can do this using UNION statement but I was wondering if it's at all possible to do it without UNION.

• .htaccess Subfolder Redirect

  Hey Guys & Gals, I recently moved my WordPress website to a subfolder. I want to add a redirect in the .htaccess file so that the links to images I've uploaded originally to ~/wp-content/uploads/ will pass to ~/blog/wp-content/uploads. The .htaccess file must remain in the root folder for WordPress to read it properly. This is what I tried Redirect /wp-content/uploads/ /blog/wp-content/uploads That worked great, except I host other domains on this account, and all of the other domain's upload folders were being redirected in a similar manner. Is there a way to restrict this redirect to just one domain? So that example.com/wp-content/uploads redirects to example.com/blog/wp-content/uploads, but another.com/wp-content/uploads does not?   Using C#, say you have a ComboBox that has a DropDownStyle set to DropDown (there are items in the drop down but the user can manually enter a value as well). How do you set a default value for the ComboBox that is not in the list of values in the drop down, but begins with text from a possible selection? Normally setting ComboBox.Text works fine, but if there is an item in the drop down that begins with the text you want as the default, it automatically selects the first item in the list that starts with the text. For example: Values in the drop down: c:\program files\ c:\windows\ d:\media\ Default Value Assignment myComboBox.Text = "C:\"; Result Initial value of ComboBox when the form opens is "c:\program files\". So what am I doing wrong? How do I correctly set a default value of an item not in the drop down list that begins with a possible selection?

  With .NET 3.5 SP 1 I checked out this blog and followed instructions, however the StringFormat parameter still gets ignored. Any possible reasons? To be sure: the datatype that are involved are DateTime, double, int. So the formatting SHOULD work, but it's not. Any clues why?

• Are Rich Snippets page specific or domain specific?

  Google will now parse certain microdata (for example reviews) on your web pages and display the info in search results. They call this Rich Snippets I am wondering is this page specific or domain specific? I keep all my reviews on a separate review page thats linked to from the home page. But my review page itself is very unlikely to be displayed in a search result, more likely to be displayed is my homepage or product landing page. But being that the review microdata is not on these pages (but is on the website). I am wondering if the rich snippets will be shown for these pages?
