  I use a Metacity theme in my Ubuntu installation. Unfortunately it isn't activated for programs with Gui that are started as root user and some other other certain programs like gufw (when i start gufw by commandline not as root)? It uses an old not very eyecandy Theme. For example for Gufw is gives the following output on commandline: /usr/share/themes/Finery/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:365: error: unexpected number `0', expected number (float) /usr/share/themes/Finery/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:365: error: unexpected number `0', expected number (float) What could be the reason, is there a way how to enable this theme also for these programs?

• What would cause a query being ran from SSMS on local box to run slower then from remote box

  When I run a simply query such as "Select Column1, Column2 from Table A" from within SSMS running on my production SQL Server the results seems to take extremely long (45Min). If I run the same query from my dev system’s SSMS connecting to the production SQL Server the results return within a few seconds (<60sec). One thing I have notices is if the system was just rebooted performance is good for a bit. It is hard to determine a time as I have had it start running slow very quickly after reboot but at most it performed good for 20min and then start acting up. Also, just restarting the SQL service does not resolve the issue or provide a temporary performance boost. Specs for Server are: Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, SP2 4 X Intel Xeon 3.6GHz - 6GB System Memory Active/Active Cluster SQL Server 2005 SP2 (9.0.3239)

  First off, you should know I'm a Ubuntu newbie who has become passionate since my strangely low-priced Dell computer showed up with Ubuntu loaded on it and it could do almost everything I need from a computer. I know, it's like asking how to use a cassette player on your computer, but in South Korea EVERY website is made to work with exclusively on MS Explorer PLUS Active X, which Microsoft finally killed with 9. Hence, I have to use 8, as there are some Korean sites I need to access for searching, banking, etc. So I see that the way to go is to load PlayOnLinux, but then I it tells me to delete these. Do I really have to do that? Should I just hit "Install Anyway"? Or would that be just asking for trouble?

This particular instance of the terminal then gives control to the program, and the program uses it as a kind of logging window, until its closed. Is this normal, or should i somehow try to start the program some other way in which it will simply show as an active process?   Currently i am running 12.04 and looking for an upgrade to 13.10 I first tried a bootable 64bit usb and failed. With the message saying "Kernal requires an x86-64 CPU but only detected an I686 CPU Unable to boot please use a kernal appropriate for your CPU" then tried 32bit and same message came up. Is this due to my laptop simply being to slow? or can/should i change the kernal somehow? I resolved a few boot issues with my first install of Ubuntu 12.10(now on clean install #3) and my system seems to function ok with video unknown. Picture quality is good and no issues with video playback. It functions for my purposes. Should I leave it as is......or will this cause problems I'm not aware of? Thanks

  My department doesn't have the budget to upgrade my ailing Dell D620 laptop. However, I do have the option to buy my own personal computer, then use my company-issued ISO image to run Windows XP as my guest os using virtualbox or vmware. Therefore, last month, I bought an Acer AX3910-U3012 desktop that had Windows 7 as the host os (and 8G RAM). In short, I was disappointed with the performance while trying to run WinXP as the guest os. (It didn't perform much better than my laptop.) Just wondering what the optimal host os would be for running Windows XP as the guest os? (No, I can't use my company-issued ISO image to build the os for my personal computer.) FWIW, I'm willing to spend up to $2k if it's REALLY worth it, but would prefer to spend no more than $1k. Also, in an effort to cut costs, I'd prefer buy a desktop instead of a laptop. As they have nothing to do with the Drupal site, I want to keep the files separate, but still using the same domain.

  In WinXP SP3, I have a .BAT file on a mapped drive. When I try to run this .BAT file (or even right click-edit) it gives me: --------------------------- Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. --------------------------- OK --------------------------- This happens with any .BAT file, no matter what is within the file. If the file is on my local computer (like C:) it will run just fine. If someone else runs it from another computer (on the same mapped drive), it runs just fine. I have full permissions on the drive; I can edit/delete/save/write/create in that folder and/or .BAT file and I've ruled out permissions being the issue. It seems like a security prevention, but I can't tell what it would be. It would have to be something on my PC, but I don't use any 3rd party software. What would cause this error?

  I have installed Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my Samsung NB30 netbook. I was very excited to try it on this little box cause it has a touchscreen and Windows 8 is supposed to be optimized for touchscreen devices. The installation was quick and smooth and all the drivers seem to work well including the one for the touchscreen. There is one major problem, though: when I try to tap one of the tiles on the Metro UI it displays This app can't open. The screen resolution is too low for this app to run. The machine has Intel Atom N450 processor and Intel GMA 3159 integrated graphics card and has maximum resolution 1024x600. I've read that Metro requires at least 1024x768. Is there a solution to this problem? Is there a way to force Windows 8 Metro apps to run in lower resolutions?

  I tried installing Ubuntu on my recently purchased (for this purpose!) Nexus 7 32Gb, with the Cellular option. When I rebooted with Ubuntu, it didn't come up. I know, I need to post the errors I received. I was in a hurry to get back to something usable for the holiday (on the road, Thanksgiving, etc.), so I just reinstalled Android for now. When I have time, I'll post more of the errors. All I remember right now is that it dropped into busybox and I didn't have a keyboard or any way to attach one. (I used the 32Gb Ubuntu, by the way.) Have others seen this?

  yeah so i broke my system trying to install support for 32bit apps. Somehow the 32bit set of libicu*.so.48 files replaced my 64bit files and now nothing works. I know what the problem is and how to fix it , what i need is some help. I need some kind soul running a 64bit install of Ubuntu 12.04 to simply go into their /usr/lib dir and copy the files that have the form libicu*.so.48* (8 of them i think, maybe 16 i dunno how many there is supposed to be since they were overwritten). Anyway if you could put those files in an archive, zip or tar preferred and then email/share the link. I was able to get these files installed but they're from the latest edition of fedora and while i can now use my computer , it's not that stable things don't start right smoothly every time like they used to .... and well its a simple ordeal to put things back the way they were if someone wouldn't mind helping out. also any help setting up the libraries related to 32bit apps would be great as well as i apparently screwed that up royally. Thanks for any help or advice
