• Passing arguments from loading activity to main activity

  I'm writing an application that starts with a loading activity. In the loading activity the app requests html from web and parses the html, then it sends the parsing result to the main activity. The main activity has several tabs, and contents of these tabs are based on the result of parsing. For example, the result of parsing is a list of strings ["apple", "banana", "orange"], and I need to pass this list to main activity, so that the main activity can create three tabs named after three fruits. I would like to know if there is any way to pass a list of strings among activities, BTW, is it the common way of do this? Many thanks.

• Restore history and current page on resuming webview

  I have a webview that I use to navigate from page to page. I have implemented go back and go forward. My problem is that when I return to the webview after visiting another activity, the history is lost i.e. the webview starts again on the first page. How do I code it so that after I call finish on the webview to swap to another activity on returning to the webview, the WebBackForwardList is restored and I am taken to the page I was on when I left the webview? I have tried overriding onSaveInstanceState and onRestoreInstanceState using webview.save/restoreState(bundle) but with no success. I have achieved returning to the last page by saving the last url in preferences, but have been unable to restore the entire history.

  I have a program that dynamically creates controls when it starts, it works just fine when the code to do this is in the class of the actual form. I tried moving the code to a separate class and found that I could not use Controls.Add(). How can I add controls to the Form from a separate class? • messages stuck permanently in session

  I am getting Drupal messages stuck permanently in session, so that after being displayed they are not cleared. The unsetting code in function drupal_get_messages in bootstrap.inc is firing - It's as if the session is sleeping (i.e. serializing to disk) before the messages array is cleared. Have you witnessed such a thing? UPDATE The call that commits the session starts from drupal_page_footer at the bottom of index.php - for some reason this is executing twice per request! once with the emptied messages and then again with the messages back in the array.

• What is the state of model driven development in 2012?

  I haven't heard a lot of talk lately on model driven development, but some of my company's customers are using it. I know briefly what it is, but after trying to refresh my memory using Google I found that most of the information is from 2006-2007. Was it something that never really took off? More worryingly is the reason why the customers are asking: They want IEC 61508 complience. Is this actually a "not-so-good" idea that will live on simply because it is prescribed by a standard? I have too little experience to say if MDD is good idea or not (I'm guessing the right answer starts with "It depends"...), but the reasons for using it, that is standard complience, seems just wrong.

  I'm having an issue with my PHP code trying to create events within MySQL. I begin with creating a string like this: $sql="DELIMITER $$ CREATE EVENT `$test_name` ON SCHEDULE EVERY $time1 $sched2 STARTS '$start_date $start_time' DO BEGIN "; $sql .="INSERT INTO blah (foo,bar); "; $sql .="END$$ DELIMITER ;" mysql_query($sql,$dbh); But I keep getting Syntax Errors starting with DELIMITER $$ CREATE EVENT. Without the semicolon behind (foo,bar); the event triggers with a unexecuted payload. Any ideas on where I'm going wrong? Thanks!

• ASP.NET MVC - how to modify requested URLs?

  The baidu spider seems to be adding ¤ to end of some crawled urls (it seems that it happens with urls containing single unicode character as the last character) The baidu-requested url looks like this: site.com/abc/ä¤ while site.com/abc/ä is the valid url and as linked from many places on my site. The internal problem is that a different route is matched for this kind of url and an unhandled exception occurs. I would not like to lose baidu because of too many 500 errors on the site. I would like to change the requested URL to a different URL by removing the added character before any ASP.NET MVC processing of the request starts. Can I write a request filter/http module or something similar in ASP.NET MVC to remove the trailing '¤' from the urls? I would not like to alter my routes to counter-hack this behavior.

• With XSLT, how can I use this if-test with an array, when search element is returned by a template call inside the for loop?

  I think this simple example might ask the question a lot more clearly. I have an input file with multiple products. There are 10 types of product (2 product IDs is fine enough for this example), but the input will have 200 products, and I only want to output the info for the first product of each type. (Output info for the lowest priced one, so the first one will be the lowest price because I sort by Price first.) So I want to read in each product, but only output the product's info if I haven't already output a product with that same ID. I couldn't figure out how to get the processID template to return a value that I need to do my if-check on, that uses parameters from inside the for-each Product loop -then properly close the if tag in the right place so it won't output the open Product tag unless it passes the if test. • Specify test method name prefix for test suite in junit 3

  Is it possible to tell JUnit 3 to use additional method name prefix when looking up test method names? The goal is to have additional tests running locally that should not be run on continuous integration server. CI server doesn't use test suites, it look up for all classes which name ends with "Test" and execute all methods that begins with "test". The goal is to be able to locally run not only tests run by integration server, but also tests which method name starts with, for example "nocitest" or something like that. I don't mind having to organize tests into tests suite locally, since CI is just ignoring them.

• Silverlight caching HTTP POST which results in a 404

  Situation: I am developing a Silverlight-Application which needs Component based on a local HTTP Listener. The HTTP-Listener can't be 'required' to be installed and running when the Application starts, so the Application does the following: Handshake via HTTP POST If Connection failed open a Click-Once Setup to install the component. So far so good.... now the Problem is: If the HTTP POST for the Handshake fails, because the Listener is not running the POST is cached.... and the following Connection Attempts after the Service is running fail, because the HTTP POST is still in Cache after the first try. NOTE: This is NOT a policy-problem. I'm using SL4 PS: I allready tried adding a random parameter to the URL like First try: Second try: didn't work :-(

• I'm getting reports that my app is draining the battery, but only on HTC Incredible.

  Has anyone else noticed behavior specific to the HTC Incredible that might result in an app keeping the device awake and busy? I've received reports that my app is responsible for keeping the device awake and draining the battery, but only from HTC Incredible users. My app responds to a number of Intents that might be related. It has a service that starts on boot, and it also responds to changes in network connectivity. I do use a WakeLock, but I'm careful to release it when I'm done processing, and the WakeLock times out after a couple minutes whether I'm done or not. I've heard that the Incredible may have some connectivity problems, or that some of them do. Could it be that the network is going up and down frequently, triggering my app? Any other ideas? I've asked a user to send me their logs with aLogCat. If they're willing, that may help narrow down the cause.

  I have an ivar like this declared on interface: BOOL controllerOK; I have to use this ivar inside a block that resides itself in a block. Something like myBlockl = ^(){ [self presentViewController:controller animated:YES completion:^(){ if (controllerOK) [self doStuff]; }]; }; If I try to do that, I see an error capturing self strongly in this block is likely to lead to a retain cycle for the if (controllerOK) line. This does not appear to be one of those blocks problems that you create another variable using __unsafe_unretained before the block starts. First because this instruction cannot be used with a BOOL and second because the ivar controllerOK has to be tested on runtime inside the block. Another problem is that the block itself is declared on the interface, so it will be used outside the context where it is being created. How do I solve that?

  I have the following code that works great but I am trying to modify it so that instead of replacing column 1 of the Index page with a new index I would rather start the range in Cell C11. Right now, the new Index starts in Cell A1 of the Index sheet.   Hi there, I am working on an iPhone version of a website, and I am using jQuery .animate() with the scrollTop attribute to scroll to different sections of the page. Something like so: $('html,body').animate({ scrollTop: distance }, 300); On regular web browsers, the scrolling starts from the current window position to the desired position. On the iPhone, the window jumps back to the top of the document before scrolling to the desired position. This is apparently the intended action, but the pages just don't look good with all that movement. Alternatively, on Google.com for the iPhone, when the autosuggest is activated, there is a nice simple scroll to show the autosuggest options below the search box. That's what I'd like to do...

  I have implemented a Splash Screen according to WiredPrairie unmanaged c++ splasher class. But not when my application loads, my window isn't activated. The user has to click on the login box even thought it is the only window open in my application. I have tried the following but none of these work. Topmost = true; Focus(); Activate(); Is there any way to give my login window focus when the application starts? Sometimes the window behind it has focus! (Visual Studio if run on my machine), Explorer or a different application window on other peoples machines. Anyone have any idea?

What is the recommended way to include a script in a package that should end up on the public CPAN and if there is any different recommendation for packages that would be released on an in-house CPAN server? That will be embedded by the CPAN client during installation and it will be very different when installing on Windows. What is the recommended sh-bang line? • How to control a webView

  Hi, In one of my xml layouts I use an webview (besides other TextViews) for which I call loadUrl("myURL") to display the content from a url. The desired effect is to have displayed in a screen all the other textViews , and below them the content of web page. However when the webview loads the URL , it starts a new activity and displays the content in that activity, which is not what I need. Any ideas on how I could force the described behavior ? Later edit: I have succeed to have layout with several views mixed, one of them being the webview .Also I have succeed to obtain the described above behavior. But only after I setted a WebView client with setWebViewClient(WebViewClient); . Now I'd like to know why does it work like this only after a webViewClient is set ?

• Jquery toggle with two elements

  I am using a toggle on a graphic to slide out a contact form. The problem is, the contact form can cover up the graphic element on low resolutions. I thought a solution would be to include a "close this" inside the form, that would use the same toggle effect. When I add the close this element to the code, instead of working in tandem with the original graphic element, it starts the chain back over, and slides the contact form even further out. • position:fixed on element in ie7/8 and problems with the scrolling of the content inside it

  I got an element fixed in the center of the screen, having specific dimensions (let's say 500x500). The element has content, which is larger then the height of the element and thus causes scroll bar to appear, which is fine. In FF/WebKit everything works nice. However in IE 7/8 ... content of the fixed element doesn't scroll, or scrolls with HUGE delay. If I change position:fixed to position:absolute, it starts to scroll fine, but with position:fixed... it's just a pain!.. Is it some known issue? Anyone heard/encountered something like that? Any ideas how to deal with such?...

• Can somehow show progress on file upload without using AJAX?

  Let's say that I upload a file using a basic multipart post. The server then receives the request and starts to execute the server side code. Can I somehow in that state start to output the response and after some data is sent start to receive the file? Finally when the file is uploaded I output the rest of the response. If this is possible I can display file upload progress without using ajax? I guess this might depend on what I run server side. But let's assume that I have full network control.

• WAS Non-HTTP activation - hooking application startup

  I'm trying to integrate a netTcpBinding based application that is hosted inside WAS with an IoC container (autofac/spring). Unfortunately, when it starts inside WAS and due to the fact that it is not an Http based application, no events are fired inside the Global application class. I need to catch the application domain startup so that I can configure the IoC container. Is there any way to do this when hosting in WAS? I've seen horrible things involving using static classes inside App_Code folders, but I'd like something somewhat more testable and not quite as dirty.

• Android animation doesn't work, probably some kind of screen redraw problem.

  I have created a custom component in my program by extending a ViewGroup. This component listens to touch events and are supposed to start animations when the user has move their finger past some certain points. I'm able to start animations while the user is touching the screen. But I'm not able to start animations if the user doesn't move their finger. It's probably that the phone thinks it doesn't have to update the screen if the user isn't moving their finger. I added some logs and according to them the animation starts and ends but it doesn't draw on the screen. I have the same problems when starting an animation with a timer. I use AlphaAnimations and TranslateAnimations on ImageViews. I have tried to use invalidate() both on the component and the ImageView but it doesn't help. Anyone who has an idea how to solve this?
