  • How to write an iphone application to control a device that exposes a telnet api

    Hi! I have to write an iphone application that controls a device. This device exposes a telnet based interface. The application should ideally have user access control and customizability for each user. I was thinking of writing C++ classes that would communicate with the device using sockets. This functionality can then be exposed through web-services that can be called by the iphone application. However as i looked into it deeper, the api allows you to register for events using telnet and then you can receive notification when those events occur. That kinda put a spanner in the works for me. I for one dont know a "push" scenario can work with webservices. First off i have never programmed for the iphone so far. So i am not really sure what can be done. So i was thinking if instead of having a webserver to go through, why not have the application independently running on the iphone, directly communicating with the device using sockets. The question though is, is that possible and second i am thinking it would raise a security aspect. First we could control security as everything was going through our central server. Is there a way to handle security (in the sense who has access to the device) without having a central server. I am sorry that this seems like an unorganized post, but iam trying to brainstorm here.     I am trying to get a control that I wrote for ASP.NET to work in an ASP.NET MVC environment. Normally, the control does the normal thing, and that works fine Sometimes it needs to respond by clearing the response, writing an image to the response stream and changing the content type. When you do this, you get an exception "OutputStream is not available when a custom TextWriter is used". If I were a page or controller, I see how I can create custom responses with binary data, but I can't see how to do this from inside a control's render functions. To simplify it -- imagine I want to make a web control that renders to: <img src="pageThatControlIsOn?controlImage"> And I know how to look at incoming requests and recognize query strings that should be routed to the control. Now the control is supposed to respond with a generated image (content-type: image/png -- and the encoded image). In ASP.NET, we: Response.Clear(); Response.OutputStream.Write(thePngData); // this throws in MVC // set the content type, etc Response.End(); How am I supposed to do that in an ASP.NET MVC control?

  • asyncsocket Write Issue

    I am attempting to use asyncsocket to communicate GPS data from a server app on my iPhone to a client app on my macbook. The two devices connect without any problems, and when the first data is sent from the iPhone to the laptop in asyncsocket's didConnectToHost method, the data is sent without hiccup. When I subsequently try to write additional data to the laptop from the locationManager method, however, no data is written.   • Did anyone create the Java Code Formatter Profile for Eclipse IDE that conforms to the Android Code

    Android Code Style Guide defines "Android Code Style Rules". To conform to these rules one have to change quite a number of settings of the Java Code Formatter (Window-Preferences-Java-Formatter) default profile (in Eclipse IDE). Did anyone managed to configure the formatter to follow the "Android Code Style Rules" already? If yes, please export the Formatter profile and publish to be used by community. PS: I've tried to do this myself but I've found that there are too many formatter options available, and most of them are not mentioned in the Code Style Guide :-(

    I have a pair of shell programs that talk over a named pipe. The reader creates the pipe when it starts, and removes it when it exits. Sometimes, the writer will attempt to write to the pipe between the time that the reader stops reading and the time that it removes the pipe. reader: while condition; do read data <$PIPE; do_stuff; done writer: echo $data >>$PIPE reader: rm $PIPE when this happens, the writer will hang forever trying to open the pipe for writing. Is there a clean way to give it a timeout, so that it won't stay hung until killed manually? I know I can do #!/bin/sh # timed_write <timeout> <file> <args> # like "echo <args> >> <file>" with a timeout TIMEOUT=$1 shift; FILENAME=$1 shift; PID=$$ (X=0; # don't do "sleep $TIMEOUT", the "kill %1" doesn't kill the sleep while [ "$X" -lt "$TIMEOUT" ]; do sleep 1; X=$(expr $X + 1); done; kill $PID) & echo "$@" >>$FILENAME kill %1 but this is kind of icky. The collection is getting pretty large and I want to set up a code bank for myself. What code banks do people use? Do you find it helps, or is there some better way of organising my reusable code snippets? (If one does exist, I'd prefer it be open-source, accessible via a web browser, language-agnostic, and maybe colour the code the way Stackoverflow does :)

    I have a pdf file being generated on the fly which I want to display inline on pageload, as below Response.Clear() Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "inline; filename=_Bulk_Print.pdf") Response.ContentType = "application/pdf" Response.BinaryWrite(docData) Response.End() If I put this in a click event it works perfectly but when on page load I Just get a blank aspx page despite the fact it's stepping through that code and the generation of the DocData no problem. Does anyone know the reason for this or a workaround, thanks for your help.

  • matplotlib - write TeX on Qt form

    I'd like to add some TeX text to my Qt form, like label - just text, no graph, no lines, no borders, just TeX. I thought something like this: render TeX to bitmap and then place that bitmap on form, e.g. into QLabel. Or even better - use some backend, add it to form and use something tex_label.print_tex(<tex code>). Seems matplotplot has TeX parsers, but I can't figure out how to use them... Thanks.
