If I use smbfs to mount a filesystem, will the inodes always be the same for each file? Or am I in danger of the inodes changing when I mount the fs again or if the remote system reboots?
Every time I open MS Office or Excel (2003) on my machine, the Microsoft Live Add-in toolbar is there. I remove it manually, but it always comes back.
How do I remove it permanently?
Hello,
I am using the following rules in iptables in my network to use a transparent proxy
* iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -i eth0 -s ! squid-box -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to squid-box:3128
* iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -s local-network -d squid-box -j SNAT --to iptables-box
* iptables -A FORWARD -s local-network -d squid-box -i eth0 -o eth0 -p tcp --dport 3128 -j ACCEPT
But my squid log, always logs gateway IP (172.16.0.1)
Do you know an alternative to not lose client IP? (of course avoid saing manual proxy setup!)

If I set up my own VPN or similar server on my alwayson computer at home, they say I could access gmail from my work computer. My question is, will the IT guys at work be able to notice something strange is going on if I'm on gchat at work through one of these things? (by IT guys I mean the two guys in charge of our network at work - its a small company)
I would like to take my old outlook archives and push them to a central location that is full text searchable. I would think something like this is out there some where but I cant seem to find it. If something that could be put on a webserver all the better so I could always have access.
Notes on what I don't want:
Plugin to Outlook
Desktop Search
More steps then uploading pst file
I'm working on vmware image files. My computer always load hard disk and vmware works very slow at the same time.
Guest OS: Windows XP SP2
Host OS: Windows XP SP2
Is there any way can improve the performance?
I use both chrome and firefox at the same time. As I always open Gmail first and then use the Reader link in upper left conner of Gmail to open Google Reader, I noticed that chomre hides the Google Reader Link. I can't find it anywhere in Gmail.
Why doesn't chrome behave differently?
On Windows XP, I have a disconnected Wireless connection which shows up in the System Tray.
I have gone into Network Connections dialog box and elected not to show an icon when it is disconnected, yet it remains visible.
I have gone into the Task bar properties and elected to always hide this icon, but that doesn't remove it from the system tray.
How do I remove it?
Thanks
How can I configure an EasyBox A601 WLAN (from Arcor resp. Vodafone) to send the IP always to DynDNS?
I entered the following:
Dynamic DNS [X]
Diensteanbieter (DynDNS.org)
Domänenname mysupersecrethost.dyndns.org (as specified in "My Host" section
Konto / E-mail myaccountname
Passwort mysupersecretpassword
The update does not work anymore, so that my IP is not correct.
The firmware is the newest available:
Firmware Version: 10.02.006 (01.12.2008-11:11:59)
Thanks for any hints!
I would like to use a jabber client in Windows 7 to use with gmail chat.

Every time I boot Windows XP Professional on my notebook, the Logon Help dialog (the one which tells you how to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete) automatically opens. How do I disable this?
This did not always happen, but has been going on for quite a while now, with both SP2 and SP3. I'm using the classic logon screen, where you have to type in your username and password.
We have a backup application that uses the Windows API BackupRead. It works correctly on Windows Server 2003, 2008, 2008 R2. It does not work on Storage Server 2008 R2. It always fails with error 50 - The request is not supported. The documentation for BackupRead gives no indication that it will not work with Storage Server 2008 R2.
Anyone else have any experience using this API on Storage Server 2008 R2?
What is the best, lightest-weight way to make the middle mouse button (i.e. clicking the scroll wheel) behave as a double-left-click in Windows 7? I want this to be universal, so that other programs don't ever see the middle-click, they just see a double-left-click.
I used to do it under Windows XP with Logitech SetPoint drivers but it was always an ugly solution - installing a huge ( 50 MB!) binary just to enable one simple little bit of functionality.
I just installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Ultimate and the first thing I load is always Firefox. This time, however, it appears that Windows cannot locate the program icons for the links in the Start Menu or Taskbar.
I tried uninstalling/reinstalling FF, but to no avail. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
I am part of two mailing lists, one of which is of high importance to me and should always show up in my Inbox and the other is not so important and should go to a specific folder.
Sometimes both these mailing lists are in the To/CC list. In this case, I want the message to stay in my Inbox and not get moved. Is this possible with Rules and Alerts ? If not, is there a macro ?
This one has been bugging me for a while: I want to use the marvelous GNU watch command to run a few custom aliases and functions that are defined in my .bashrc, but it is never able to run anything except bash built-ins or binaries.
watch -d foo
The output is always: foo: command not found
How can I make it inherit my environment or use the .bashrc?
Thank you.
I've recently started using Windows 7 (64-bit) at work, but after installing Aptana like usual, and mapping my network folders like I always have, Aptana shows the mapped drives, but with a red X on the drive icon. Using the native windows explorer I can browse the drives fine, and I don't need to login.
If it matters the mapped drives are hosted on both Windows and Linux servers.
Any ideas on what to do? My googling is drawing blanks.
in a directory with multiple sub directories I need to change filenames that have the "_" character to a another character "."
example
Current filename: ABC12345_DEF
Change to filename: ABC12345.DEF
I need to do this recursively through a directory tree.
the last three characters of the filename are not always the same.
using rename wildcards on either side of the "_" or "." doesn't work (plus I need to do this through several directories)
I have been using Thunderbird for years in the following manner (now it's Thunderbird 17.0 on Windows 7):
I offload my IMAP emails to my local inbox weekly, then apply hundreds of message filters to said emails in order to move and store them into a few hundred subfolders. It's always worked like a charm - until recently.
Now, after I apply the message filters, the emails get moved but they are destroyed in the process - bodies are scrambled up, with bits and pieces of other emails or they are simply blank!
How do I fix this?
I was always wondering how many simultaneous users can a 3G tower supports with its data rates?
I mean they advertise 28.8Mb/Sec for the 3G Data but in reality if a lot of people use it say 10 , it wont give 288Mb/Sec bandwidth.
I didn't find anywhere where such information is published so I thought to ask here.
Don' know why the cell operators keep it such a secret :)
ive installed ubuntu server but i have only vim.basic?

The following are all Windows 7 64 bit Business edition computers.
I have a PC (lets call it "PC1") that I remotely access now and again using Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) on my laptop downstairs. Sometimes when I physically go back to sit at PC1, the screen is black and there is no way for me to wake it into life, no login screen or anything - the PC is still on and I am always forced to do a hard reboot. What can I do to stop this happening, it's really annoying.
Hi,
I'm looking for a small PCM converter tool which I can access by Dos-Console.
I have any wave-files and need always this output: PCM 44,1k, 16bit, Mono
Is there any program for this?

I get a lot of spam comments on my Blogger blog, and I always reject them. But i want to find a way to prevent these comments from reaching my blog in the first place. To reject them automatically.
How can I do that?
Hi all
I just spoke with an college about SharePoint, he then mentioned that I would have to install WSS first and then install SharePoint 2007 ontop of that. Is this true?
I always understood that the whole SharePoint architecture is build upon WSS, so when installing SharePoint 2007 WSS is automatically installed because without it, it wouldn't even work!?
