• MVC4 App opens with directory listing and gives a 404 for any direct URL's entered in the browser

  I've just deployed a previously (on my local IIS) working MVC4 app to IIS 7.5 on the dev server. After tweaking this and that - one knows how these things get forgotten - the app finally launches, but shows a directory listing of the app root. Clicking on most links there works, opening the directory listing of the sub-directory. Elmah logs no errors and /elmah.asd also gives a 404. The site has an appropriate localhost binding in the hosts file. I can find nothing wrong. MVC is installed on the server, as another MCV app works fine.

  I'm working on an app which acts as a client for our web service. We sell this service to businesses, and we want to distribute the app to their employees for free. The app will be customised for each client. If we were in the US, my understanding is that we'd ask them to enrol in the volume purchasing program, and submit a version of our app for each business, for enterprise distribution at the free price point However, the businesses aren't all in the US, so they can't enrol in the VPP. They have thousands of employees, so promo codes won't be sufficient. What are our alternatives?

Some of these testers will be customers, who I would like feedback from. As there are multiple developers involved I expect there to be a new release on a daily basis. How can this be done? • Why is Ubuntu offline (except torrents) while Windows is online?

  I am using a static wired connection. Everything was perfect. But suddenly from few hours back I can't access any website. Dropbox, Ubuntu One also can't connect. Ping request is also unsuccessful, but I can download through torrent. I am not trying torrent download and browsing at the same time. So, I think it's not an issue about torrent using all the bandwidth. One important point is that this connection works perfectly on Windows on this same PC (My PC is dual-boot). I have tried the way what izx has suggested (using "sudo sh -c 'echo nameserver 8.8.8.8 /etc/resolv.conf'"), but I'm facing the same problem again. Now I can't even ping 8.8.8.8 and google.com. Though I can ping 74.125.228.2 (which is Google IP address) I can't understand what's happening and why this is happening. I'm new in this website many rules and regulations is unknown to me. So, please don't be bothered for my mistakes. Looking forward for help from anyone. Thanks to all.

  I have a large file of functions. Each of these functions is responsible for drawing a particular part of the application. My app has x and y parameters that I use in the setup function to move the whole app around in order to try different placements. So, naturally, I need to use these x and y values to anchor each function's component rendering so that everything moves in unison if the global x,y values ever change. My question is, is it bad practice/architecture to have these x,y values in the global namespace and having the each function directly access them like so? function renderFace() { var x = App.x; var y = App.y; // drawing here } is there a better way i'm missing?

  Independent of the App Store or Google Play, is there a way to track where new downloads or paying customers came from? For example, if an app advertises my app in theirs - is there a way for me to find out which users actually downloaded it? And then pay that app owner a commission? On the web this is done via a tracking URL which places a cookie on a users machine. If they signup within a designated timeframe, they are 'tracked to' whomever had their affiliate code in the URL they clicked and that person would receive commissions. How could this be done with native mobile apps, while not violating Apple/Google rules?

  I'm making an app that will be used in multiple hospitals in the US. As per HIPAA compliance requirement, every hospital will have its own server that complies with these requirements of ensuring patient data security, etc. Now the task is that the app should communicate with a particular server based on the login info. An additional requirement is that new hospitals(servers) are likely to be added along the way, even after the app is available on the market. So basically, according to some login credentials, the app should communicate with the server of the hospital assigned to that person. One pretty crude way is to set up our own server which links the hospitals with the login info and accordingly, provides a base-url for data exchange. Is there a more efficient way to handle this?

  The explanation I was recently hired by a company that has an old RoR 2.3 application with more than 100k users, a strong SEO strategy with more than 170k indexed urls, native android and ios applications and other custom-made mobile and web applications that rely on a not so good API from the same RoR app. They recently merged with a company from another country as an strategy to grow the business and the profit. They have almost the same stats, a similar strategy and mobile apps. We have just decided that we need to merge the data from both companies and to start a new app from scratch since the RoR app is to old and heavily patched and the app from the other company was built with a custom PHP framework without any documentation. The only good news is that both databases are in MySQL and have a similar structure. The challenge I need to build a new version that: can handle a lot of traffic, preserves the SEO strategies of both companies, serve 2 different domains, and have a strong API that can support legacy mobile apps from both companies and be ready for a new set of native apps. I want to use RoR 3.2 for the main web apps and NodeJs with a Restful API. I know that I need to be very careful with the mobile apps and handle multiple versions of the API. I also think that I need to create a service that can handle a lot IO request since the apps is heavily used to create orders for restaurants at a certain time of the day. The questions With all this in mind: What type of architecture do you recommend me to follow? What gems or node packages do you think will work the best? How do I build a new rails app and keep using the same database structure? Should I use NodeJS to build an API or just build a new service with Ruby? I know that I'm asking to much from you guys, but please help me by answering any topic that you can or by pointing me on the right direction.   I've inherited a pretty interesting project where there is a good opportunity to take an existing piece of software and turn it into a SaaS web app. As the project is inherited, the code base/ framework is already defined as C++ and MySQL. The app itself is compiled and run as an EXE on Windows Server. The UI is web based and the app works as a kind of server. From what I do know of modern web apps, this is perhaps an unusual choice. These days, most people seem to opt for a PHP framework or Ruby on Rails. Certainly that is the impression I get from reading blogs on the subject. So, I'm very interested to know if a C++ EXE backed by MySQL is a solid foundation for a web app, or whether we should be looking to build in another way?

• WCF Data Service BeginSaveChanges not saving changes in Silverlight app

  I'm having a hell of a time getting WCF Data Services to work within Silverlight. I'm using the VS2010 RC. I've struggled with the cross domain issue requiring the use of clientaccesspolicy.xml & crossdomain.xml files in the web server root folder, but I just couldn't get this to work. I've resorted to putting both the Silverlight Web App & the WCF Data Service in the same project to get past this issue, but any advice here would be good. But now that I can actually see my data coming from the database and being displayed in a data grid within Silverlight I thought my troubles were over - but no. I can edit the data and the in-memory entity is changing, but when I call BeginSaveChanges (with the appropriate async EndSaveChangescall) I get no errors, but no data updates in the database. My intent is to get a proof-of-concept working here and then do the appropriate separation of concerns to turn this into a simple line-of-business app. I've spent hours and hours on this. I'm being driven insane. Any ideas how to get this working?
