• How do I pre-empt IIS StaticFileHandler with my own HttpHandler

  Hi there, I'm building a website referencing an assembly that contains several js scripts as embedded resources, some controls which use those scripts and a 'HttpResourcesHandler' that knows how to retrieve those embedded scripts when asked for them. In web.config I have an entry in the section that reads <add verb="*" path="/embedded/controlscripts/*" validate="false" type="CWeb.Controls.Web.HttpResourcesHandler, CWeb.Controls.EditBox" /> This control adn the website work absolutely fine when debugging with the Visual Studio web development server, but if I then switch the website to run under IIS (v7 - I'm running Vista and there appears to be no problem with debugging the site using IIS 5 or 6), the control can no longer access the scripts. I get a HTTP 404.0 error screen indicating the StaticFileHandler cannot find the file. I know that - it's embedded. So the StaticFileHandler appears to be grabbing the request for the script before my own and returning a 404. How do I tell IIS to use my own resource handler for the embedded/controlscripts directory rather than the staticfilehandler? I'm running the website in classic mode by the way.

• Cross Domain Post - Losing POST Data

  I have 2 servers, both running R2 / IIS7 / ASP Classic sites (can't get around any of that) Server A is making the follow calls: Dim objXMLHTTP, xml Set xml = Server.CreateObject("Msxml2.ServerXmlHTTP.6.0") xml.Open "POST", templateName, false xml.setRequestHeader "Content-Type", "application/xml" xml.Send variables Where the templateName is the URL of Server B (It's an email template) ... and variables are a name value pair string like a query string password=myPassword&customerEmail=Dear+Bob,.... Server B receives the POST but all the POST data (password=myPassword&customerEmail=Dear+Bob,....) is missing from the POST password = Request.Form("templatePassword") customerEmail = Request.Form("RackAttackCustomerEmail") The above values are all empty. Here's the kicker. This all worked on our old servers (Windows Server 2003, IIS 6) But when we migrated over, this stopped working correctly. My question is: What would cause the POST data to be dropped in IIS 7 when it all worked in IIS 6? I've done about 3 days of research into this trying many different things and nothing has worked. The POST data is just gone.

  I'm starting a new JSF (2) project. I realize that pure JSF has some limitation and I'm planning to drop in spring. JSF is a relatively new approach in spring (there is not even a tag spring-faces in stackoverflow :-) ), jsp being the classic way. I need the best available adjustment of the technology stack. 1) do i need to use spring web flow too? 2) is it viable to use just spring faces (that seems to come as a part of web flow) + spring mvc+ JPA? 3) is there any good example of such a configuration?

• Programmatic resource monitoring per process in Linux

  Hi, I want to know if there is an efficient solution to monitor a process resource consumption (cpu, memory, network bandwidth) in Linux. I want to write a daemon in C++ that does this monitoring for some given PIDs. From what I know, the classic solution is to periodically read the information from /proc, but this doesn't seem the most efficient way (it involves many system calls). For example to monitor the memory usage every second for 50 processes, I have to open, read and close 50 files (that means 150 system calls) every second from /proc. Not to mention the parsing involved when reading these files. Another problem is the network bandwidth consumption: this cannot be easily computed for each process I want to monitor. The solution adopted by NetHogs involves a pretty high overhead in my opinion: it captures and analyzes every packet using libpcap, then for each packet the local port is determined and searched in /proc to find the corresponding process. Do you know if there are more efficient alternatives to these methods presented or any libraries that deal with this problems?

• Odd results when searching for numbers using IXSSO.Query

  Hi, from classic asp on Windows 2008, using an IXSSO.Query, when searching for a string of numbers, for example 10000000001, I receive results that also include variations to this, like 10000000002 10000000003 and so on. If I change the first digit so the search string is 20000000001 I dont get anything. If I keep moving the last digit from my first example to the left, I keep getting hits until I reach the half way point when I get no results! So in other words 10000020000 will return results like in the first example but 10000200000 does not. This all sounds like to me that its doing a match on the first 6 characters and it ignores the rest... Here is relevant parts of the Set oQuery = Server.CreateObject("IXSSO.Query") oQuery.Catalog = SEARCH_CATALOG oQuery.Query = "@all " & searchstr Set oRS = oQuery.CreateRecordset("nonsequential") Anyone got any ideas and/or suggestions?   I (and co-hackers) are building a sort of trivia game inspired by this blog post: http://messymatters.com/calibration. The idea is to give confidence intervals and learn how to be calibrated (when you're "90% sure" you should be right 90% of the time). We're thus looking for, ideally, thousands of questions with unambiguous numerical answers. Also, they shouldn't be too boring. There are a lot of random statistics out there -- eg, enclosed water area in different countries -- that would make the game mind-numbing. Things like release dates of classic movies are more interesting (to most people). Other interesting ones we've found include Olympic records, median incomes for different professions, dates of famous inventions, and celebrity ages. • System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission Exception on New Deployment

  I have a friend that is moving a web application from one server over to another. The new server has the same settings as the first server, however, he's running into a Security issue. Here's the error details: Request for the permission of type 'System.Web.AspNetHostingPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. The Event Viewer does not point to anything specific in the web.config file or anything. The web applicaiton is on the C: drive. This is a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 server with a brand new IIS 7 installation. IIS is set in classic mode for this app pool.

• Is there a way to programatically popup the "Microsoft Silverlight Configuration" dialog?

  I am building for Silverlight 4, and I handle MouseRightButtonDown events and build my own ContextMenu's (a class from the Silverlight Toolkit). I would like to add the classic "Silverlight" menu item to my menus, and give the user the familiar option of launching the "Microsoft Silverlight Configuration" dialog. This is the dialog lets users manage Updates, Webcams, Permissions, and Application Storage. So I need a way to programatically launch the dialog when the menu item is clicked. I can be done for Flash, and it would seem that Microsoft would want to encourage developers to support that option. Can it be done?

• How to best integrate HTML/design with C# code in ASP.Net or ASP.Net MVC?

  We're working on a new ASP.Net site. The last major site we did was in classic ASP--the procedure we used there was to have the HTML completed first, then "bring it to life" with the ASP code. In the ASP.Net world, how does this work? I.e. how do the designers do their work if much of the mark-up is actually being generated by the server controls? We are also looking at ASP.Net MVC as a potential lightweight alternative. Would be very interested to know what was worked best for people in both scenarios in terms of working with the designers and integrating their work with the code.

• iPhone: Best Method for Passing Data to and from a Server

  I am developing an iPhone application that downloads data from a website. The website database is implemented in SQL and the site itself uses the classic ASP interface. I am unsure as to which method would be best for transferring data to and from the server. Both JSON and SOAP require XML processing and I'm not sure how that affects performance or which of those two is best. What would be the best method in general for data transfer given the server configuration we currently have? I very new to this field and I'm a bit confused. Any help would be appreciated.

  I have a classic ASP website that is crashing in IIS7. It is crashing because IIS doesn't allow file uploads greater than a certain size. I know this because files below about 200k work fine. I removed the Status Code 500 error in IIS but I still don't get a file name and the line where my code failed as I do when running locally. Instead I get: "The page cannot be displayed because an internal server error has occurred. If you are the system administrator please click here to find out more about this error." How do I get a file name and the line where my code failed? Here are my IIS settings:

• Unregistering a COM wrapped .NET assembly

  I created a COM exposed .NET 2.0 dll and registered with my windows operating system using 'regasm' and 'gacutil' (in GAC). Then I tried to call this component from my classic ASP page. It worked fine. But, I need to change the functionality of my assembly. I unregistered it again using 'regasm' and 'gacutil' (from GAC) utilities and copied my new .NET DLL and registered again (This time using a new version of the DLL). For some reason, i still have a pointer to my old assembly and new calls to the DLL from ASP page are not working. Any Ideas on what process i need to follow to ensure that all the references to the old version are completely removed? I appreciate any help.

• What would make offsetParent null?

  I am trying to do positioning in JavaScript. I am using a cumulative position function based on the classic quirksmode function that sums offsetTop and offsetLeft for each offsetParent until the top node. However, I am running into an issue where the element I'm interested in has no offsetParent in Firefox. In IE offsetParent exists, but offsetTop and offsetLeft all sum up to 0, so it has the same problem in effect as in Firefox. What would cause an element that is clearly visible and usable on the screen to not have an offsetParent? Or, more practically, how can I find the position of this element in order to place a drop-down beneath it?

• Integrate test process with Rspec and Cucumber in a plugin using Desert

  Hello, I'm developing some rails plugins with desert, and I would like to use tests with RSpec and Cucumber in the development. RSpec is integrated by default in Desert plugins, but it gives me some bugs. Finally I have created a minimal application which use my plugin, and I try to test it like a normal application without plugin. But I dislike that solution, the plugin lost its modularity, and RSpec still returns me some bugs (he can't find the models/views/controllers located in the plugin...). So am I the only one who try to test a Desert plugin (or even in a classic plugin) ? May anyone know those matters and get a solution ?

  Hi guy, I need to integrate struts with spring for a project. I read the doc to ingrate struts and it's ok for classic beans but I have a problem for my forms.   Guidelines for code-golf on SO We've all seen phone numbers that are put into words: 1-800-BUY-MORE, etc. What is the shortest amount of code you can write that will produce all the possible combinations of words for a 7 digit US phone number. Input will be a seven digit integer (or string, if that is simpler), and assume that the input is properly formed. Output will be a list of seven character strings that For instance, the number 428-5246 would produce GATJAGM GATJAGN GATJAGO GATJAHM GATJAHN GATJAHO and so on..... Winning criteria will be code from any language with the fewest characters that produce every possible letter combination. Additional Notes: To make it more interesting, words can be formed only by using the letters on a North American Classic Key Pad phone with three letters per number as defined here.That means that Z and Q are excluded. For the number '1', put a space. For the number '0', put a hyphen '-' Bonus points awarded for recognizing output as real English words. Okay, not really. ;-)

  Hello, I've downloaded Eclipse Classic 3.5 Galileo, the last version of Android SDK, downloaded and installed Eclipse Android 1.6 platform. I've created first (and the only) AVD with Android 1.6 and the default skin.   Hi all: I moved one years ago from classic OO languages such like Java to Javascript. The following code is definitely not recommended (or even not correct) in Java: if(dayNumber = getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo)) { alert("day number found"); } function getClickedDayNumber(dayInfo) { dayNumber = dayInfo.indexOf("fc-day"); if(dayNumber != -1) //substring found { //normally any calendar month consists of "40" days, so this will definitely pick up its day number. return parseInt(dayInfo.substring(dayNumber+6, dayNumber+8)); } else return false; } Basically I just found out that I can assign a variable to a value in an if condition statement, and immediately check the assigned value as if it is boolean. For a safer bet, I usually separate that into two lines of code, assign first then check the variable, but now that I found this, I am just wondering whether is it good practice or not in the eyes of experienced javascript developers? • Jawa Swing: Dialog with expanding / progressive disclosure?

  I've got a dialog in a desktop Java Swing app. What I want is a classic Windows-style Progressive Disclosure dialog, where pressing a "More Options" button opens up a whole extra batch of options on the dialog. (Which can then be hidden again by clicking that same button, which now says something like "Hide".) What's the right way to do this in Swing? I can't seem to google-up anything directly relating to this, and what I have found boils down to "reset the preferred dimensions to 0 and revalidate" which can't possibly be the right way to do this and also causes all kinds of wacky things to happen.

• Getting MVC default route to go to ~/default.asp

  I am adding some MVC features to an existing site (FWIW, most of which is in classic ASP). As a result, I need to keep the default routing going to ~/default.asp (at a minimum - preferably the default document specified in IIS). Is there a way to write the route in RegisterRoutes so that a request for the root of the site (e.g., http://localhost, http://localhost/, or http://localhost/default.asp) will directly get the default page, and not attempt to find a controller/action? Or do I need to write my own HttpModule that will filter it and keep it from getting to the MvcHandler (as in this blog)? BTW, I have googled this, but most of the hits are for MVC version 1 or older, and default routing appears to have changed in version 2 (i.e, there is no more default.aspx that redirects to ~/Home), so they are not directly applicable. Even so, the ones that were there didn't address this problem.

  I was about to tag the recent question in which the OP accidentally shadowed the builtin operator module with his own local operator.py with the "common-mistakes" tag, and I saw that there are a number of interesting questions posted asking for common mistakes to avoid in Java, Ruby, Scala, Clojure, .Net, jQuery, Haskell, SQL, ColdFusion, and so on, but I didn't see any for Python. For the benefit of Python beginners, can we enumerate the common mistakes that we have all committed at one time or another, in the hopes of maybe steering a newbie or two clear of them? (In homage to "The Princess Bride", I call these the Classic Blunders.) If possible, a little supporting explanation on what the problem is, and the generally accepted resolution/workaround, so that the beginning Pythoner doesn't read your answer and say "ok, that's a mistake, how do I fix it?"

• Content-type not working in PHP

  Hi everyone, I have some issues with a PHP file that is not working properly. The Content-type does not get recieved by any browser at all. Firebug interprets the file as text/html instead of css. Here's the file : <?php header('Content-Type: text/css; charset=UTF-8'); error_reporting(E_ALL | E_STRICT); ini_set('display_errors', 'On'); /* CSS goes on from here */ I tested to put a row with echo 'TEST'; before the header line, and was expecting to see the classic "headers already sent" error, but nothing appears! What can I do to sort this out?

• Open source configuration framework for ASP.NET - does one exist?

  We currently have an old product written in classic asp and are about to re-write parts in ASP.NET. One big problem is that much of the cutomer-specifics within the system are hard coded. We want to split this out for specific customers by storing data in the database. Is there a quick an easy open source framework which allows me to set up some quick tables and simple UIs to allow me to change configuration items? We have 6-7 modules, and it would be nice to have the ability to have system admins gain access to a configuration area where they can set-up settings in a tabbed UI format, settings could also be set-up to allow dropdown, fields, numbers etc. The items could then be accessed via classes in C#/vb for use within the operational parts of the system. If not, I'm suprised and it might even be a good basis for a new open source project.
