• Windows 7 does not recognise second display output

  I've got a PC with dual BenQ G2222HDL monitors and an ATI Radeon HD 4650 video card. I've been running both monitors at 1920x1080 for some months now but last week the second monitor switched to a lower resolution and won't let me go back to 1920x1080. If I right click the Desktop and choose Screen Resolution from the menu, I get two items in the Display: drop down list BenQ G2222HDL D-SUB Display device on: VGA In the past 2 was always the same as 1. If I click Detect a third item appears Available display output on: ATI Radeon HD 4650 but if I use the Multiple displays: drop down list to use it says "No display detected" and then lets me choose from either "Connect anyway on S-Video" or "Connect anyway on Component", neither of which help. It seems like Windows 7 recognises the card is dual-head, and knows I have got two monitors, but can't link it all together. I have checked and all my drivers are up-to-date. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can get the second monitor working properly again?

• IIS6 - Change the language to English

  I have a Windows 2003 VM Image which was created by a Swedish Windows Install. Afterwards the language settings of the machine was changed to English. However, I just added IIS6 Windows component to the machine (from Add/Remove Programs) - IIS6 is not in English. It's in Swedish. IIS Manager's Menu options are in English, but the Title Bar uses hanteraren(Swedish for Manager). The IIS Error pages come in Swedish. How do I get IIS's default language back in English.

• GWT: uiBinder-based widget cant be instanced second time

  Hi. I created a widget using GWT uiBinder. It works fine, till the moment when I want to instance it second time. After i call constructor second time it returns only raw description from XML and statements in constructor (rootElement.add( new HTML( "panel1" ), leftId );) are just don't work. It throws no error or warning. • Registering OCX on 64-bit Windows 7

  I want to use MSCOMM control in my MS Excel 2010 VBA. The control shall appear in Tools-> Additional Controls dialog box in VBE of MS Excel 2010. I am trying to register MSCOMM32.OCX on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine. However, as I try to register it using regsvr32 as shown in the command window below, I am getting shown error popup. What am I missing here? Why is this component not getting registered? Or this is not the correct way to include MSCOMM control in MS Excel VBA? I am attempting to use the BeanUtils library to introspect my domain models and provide the properties to display in a property sheet. I noticed that the same problem occurs with other wrapped libraries; if they themselves have external dependencies, the ClassNotFoundExceptions propagate like mad, even if I've wrapped the jars of the libraries they require and added them as dependencies to the original wrapped library module.   Was: Design by contract: predict methods needed, discipline yourself and deal with code that comes to mind I like the idea of designing by contract a lot (at least, as far as I understand the principal). I believe it means you define intefaces first before you start implementing actual code, right? However, from my limited experience (3 OOP years now) I usually can't resist the urge to start coding pretty early, for several reasons: because my limited experience has shown me I am unable to predict what methods I will be needing in the interface, so I might as well start coding right away. or because I am simply too impatient to write out the whole interfaces first. or when I do try it, I still wind up implementing bits of code already, because I fear I might forget this or that imporant bit of code, that springs to mind when I am designing the interfaces. As you see, especially with the last two points, this leads to a very disorderly way of doing things. Tasks get mixed up. I should draw a clear line between designing interfaces and actual coding. If you, unlike me, are a good/disciplined planner, as intended above, how do you: ...know the majority of methods you will be needing up front so well? Especially if it's components that implement stuff you are not familiar with yet. ...resist the urge to start coding right away? ...deal with code that comes to mind when you are designing the interfaces? UPDATE: Thank you for the answers so far. Valuable insights! And... I stand corrected; it seems I misinterpreted the idea of Design By Contract. For clarity, what I actually meant was: "coming up with interface methods before implementing the actual components". An additional thing that came up in my mind is related to point 1): b) How do you know the majority of components you will be needing. How do you flesh out these things before you start actually coding? For arguments sake, let's say I'm a novice with the MVC pattern, and I wanted to implement such a component/architecture. A naive approach would be to think of: a front controller some abstract action controller some abstract view ... and be done with it, so to speak. But, being more familiar with the MVC pattern, I know now that it makes sense to also have: a request object a router a dispatcher a response object view helpers etc.. etc.. If you map this idea to some completely new component you want to develop, with which you have no experience yet; how do you come up with these sort of additional components without actually coding the thing, and stuble upon the ideas that way? How would you know up front how fine grained some components should be? Is this a matter of disciplining yourself to think it out thoroughly? Or is it a matter of being good at thinking in abstractions?

I installed on a Vista x64 machine Visual Studio 2008 SP1 (with integrated SQL from the installation package) and when I try to add an MDF file to a project or to the App_Data when working with web, I get the following message: Connections to SQL Server Files (*.mdf) require SQL Server Express 2005 to function properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the URl: http:go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkID=49251. Just to make sure: SQL 2005 express is installed and I connect to it via SSMS. Update: I am 90% sure that this is a Microsoft bug with x64 machines.

• Unable to access virtaul IP after configuring NLB in windows 2008

  I have Two webseervers(WS1, WS2). I have added NLB component on both the machines. In WS1, i have added a cluster with IP as (eg:xx.yy.zz.100) and added WS1, WS2 to the same cluster. Now i have deployed application in WS1& WS2 and tried accessing the cluster IP address from WS1 and WS2. App opened. Now i have test machine which is in the same domain of WS1 and WS2. I tried accessing the application with clustered IP in the test machine, it did not work.However it is working when accessed with the dedicated IP of WS1 and WS2. But for making NLB i have to access the app with clusted IP. Help asap would be appriciated.

  Hi, we are starting to test View for our purposes. I have created new test enviroment, new vdidemo active directory, new virtual center etc... I just installed view connection server component to new server and trying to do initial configuration, but when trying to log in I get following error " Error accessing the View Administrator. Contact the system administrator" Log file says following error 08:14:08,925 INFO LoginBean User administrator has failed to authenticate to View Administrator What is causing this problem? How can I log in and start to test VDI?

• Error message during installation of Windows XP Professional

  During installation of Windows XP Professional the installer had an error which points to a bad CD, so I got another one and tried it, but the same thing happened. What can I do? It says: One of the components Windows needs to continue could not be installed.. The component is called: sys.dll D:/i386/asms/1000/msft/windows/gdiplus/gdiplus.man. I tried running chkdsk /f to fix the errors on the disk. I've searched the internet all day, and I don't know what else to do. I get this error message: SYS.DLL Syntax error in manifest or policy file D:/i386/asms/1000/msft/windows/gdiplus/gdiplus.man on line 4 Error Installation failed d:/I386/asms Error message Data Error (cyclic redundancy check) Fatal error One of the components Windows needs to continue could not be installed. If you are using a CD there might be a problem with the CD try cleaning it and trying again or using another CD.

• AppUpdater and wamp server

  I've got an winforms application and I want to implement auto updater to this application. I followed the instructions on the site and got everything setup right. (appupdater application) Now I tried a test and I'm getting the following error back from the appupdater: the remote server returned an error 405 I googled this and this is because my server isn't setup with the right access. I'm using a wampserver and in the apache httpd.conf I added the following lines so my directory is allowed for access: <Directory "c:/wamp/www/updater/V11/"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride all # onlineoffline tag - don't remove Order Deny,Allow Deny from all Allow from 127.0.0.1 </Directory> But I'm still getting the same error back. I can find information for the IIS configurations, but not for apache. edit: I'm still getting the error, I opened the error log file of apache and I see the following - "PROPFIND /updater/V11/ HTTP/1.1" 405 238 the updater component is using the HTTP-DAV. edit2: it seems that nobody had this kind of situation.

• Dell OpenManage iDrac

  I have installed OpenManage Server Administrator on a Windows 7 workstation with the assumption that nothing needed to be done on the actual server I am trying to manage. The server has an iDrac v7 component and I was under the impression that OpenManage just connects to that? When I try to connect I put the IP address of the iDrac console and the username/password and I get a 'Connection Error' message. So my question, does OpenManage have to be installed on the server that is to be managed, even if it has a DRAC connection?

  In an ASP.NET 2.0 Application, an ActiveX control is used. When user first time access the appliction and he/she did not have that ActiveX registered. Application show a popup to install ActiveX. When user follow the process, ActiveX is registered and application loads the ActiveX to accomplish desired tasks. In Windows Vista, Win 7 and Win 8, User Access Control (UAC) is prompted to allow to install the ActiveX at very first time. This happens even if user is Administrator too. What are alternatives to override this UAC component while installing ActiveX ? Suggestions are appreciated.

They identified several issues and instructed the following to correct the issues: Problem: SSL Server Supports Weak Encryption for SSLv3, TLSv1, Solution: Add the following rule to httpd.conf SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM Problem: SSL Server Supports CBC Ciphers for SSLv3, TLSv1 Solution: Disable any cipher suites using CBC ciphers Problem: SSL Server Supports Weak MAC Algorithm for SSLv3, TLSv1 Solution: Disable any cipher suites using MD5 based MAC algorithms I tried searching google for a comprehensive tutorial on how to construct an SSLCipherSuite directive to meet my requirements, but I didn't find anything I could understand. I see examples of SSLCipherSuite directives, but I need an explanation on what each component of the directive does. So even in the directive SSLCipherSuite ALL:!aNULL:!eNULL:!LOW:!EXP:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM, I dont understand for example what the !LOW means. Can someone either a) tell me the SSLCipherSuite directive that will meet my needs or b) show me a resource that clearly explains each segment of a SSLCipherSuite is and how to construct one?

  I'm working on learning GWT (total newb) and have a question regarding the Visualiztion API provided by Google. This page: http://code.google.com/p/gwt-google-apis/wiki/VisualizationGettingStarted Describes getting started with a pie chart (which is what I need). However I'm trying to do this in a composite UI using UiBinder. To that end I don't know how to handle the callback correctly that is shown: public class SimpleViz implements EntryPoint { public void onModuleLoad() { // Create a callback to be called when the visualization API // has been loaded. • Intermittent freeze of Windows 7 x64 on laptop

  I have Lenovo W500, 8GB RAM, 250GB Crucial SSD running Windows 7 x64 using boot-to-vhd. Lately I started to experience some random freezes for 5-30 seconds. And when I say "freeze" I mean it; it's like a time machine - no input taken, nothing is written anywhere, no log, no disk activity. And then suddenly machine would wake up and continue as if nothing happened. I do suspect that it's one of the drivers but I don't see any updates in the log lately except for .NET 4 framework and Adobe Reader. Out of new or updated software I can only recall Skype and IE9 but freezes started to occur definitely before IE install. Regular software includes but not limited to: Office 2010, VMWare Workstation, IE9, Chrome, Skype, Seesmic/TweeterDeck, Live Writer. How should I approach the "hunting season" to find our the culprit? Any tools or packages that could help me to identify the component, program, driver that causes the freeze? Cheers

• Using datetime float representation as primary key

  From my experience I have learn that using an surrogate INT data type column as primary key esp. an IDENTITY key column offers better performance than using GUID or char/varchar data type column as primary key. I try to use IDENTITY key as primary key wherever possible. But recently I came across a schema where the tables were horizontally partitioned and were managed via a Partitioned view. So the tables could not have an IDENTITY column since that would make the Partitioned View non updatable. One work around for this was to create a dummy 'keygenerator' table with an identity column to generate IDs for primary key. But this would mean having a 'keygenerator' table for each of the Partitioned View. My next thought was to use float as a primary key. The reason is the following key algorithm that I devised DECLARE @KEY FLOAT SET @KEY = CONVERT(FLOAT,GETDATE())/100000.0 SET @KEY = @EMP_ID + @KEY Heres how it works. CONVERT(FLOAT,GETDATE()) gives float representation of current datetime since internally all datetime are represented by SQL as a float value. CONVERT(FLOAT,GETDATE())/100000.0 converts the float representation into complete decimal value i.e. all digits are pushed to right side of ".". @KEY = @EMP_ID + @KEY adds the Employee ID which is an integer to this decimal value. The logic is that the Employee ID is guaranteed to be unique across sessions since an employee cannot connect to an application more than once at the same time. And for the same employee each time a key will be generated the current datetime will be unique. In all an unique key across all employee sessions and across time. So for Emp Ids 11 and 12, I have key values like 12.40046693321566357, 11.40046693542361111 But my concern whether float data type as primary key offer benefits compared to choosing GUID or char/varchar as primary keys. Also important thing is because of partitioning the float column is going to be part of a composite key.

• securing source code with bitlocker

  We need to deploy a web based application at a client site where it will be within their local intranet. Part of our requirement is to provide some basic security to protect our IP. I realise that nothings a 100% guaranteed fix but we are just looking to make it a bit harder for most people. The server will be running server 2008 and I was considering using bitlocker as a cheap and nasty way to protect it. From what I understand assuming the mobo supports it we can use the Transparent bitlocker mode and this means that moving the hdd to another pc will mean the hdd will be unreadable in that machine baring some sort of cold boot attack to steal the encryption keys. Is this assumption correct and in the case that the motherboard or any other component fails in the pc and we need to replace it do we lose access to our data or is there a way to unencrypt it (obviously accessible to only our company) EDIT: we do have legal documents that cover this and we will be locking the pc physically and the client will not have access to the pc (windows login) other than via the website we host on it

• Connecting CR 2008 and Oracle database: "TNS file could not be opened"

  I am trying to connect to an Oracle database using CR 2008 drivers for oracle (specifically OLE db driver). When I try to connect I provide the correct connection parameters however I keep getting "TNS file could not be opened" error. I am very confused about this message does this mean I am missing some component? From my understanding the driver should be able to connect. Currently on the computer running Crystal reports there is only has Crystal reports 2008 installed. Do i need to install the oracle instant client on the CR computer in order to make a proper connection? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

• which NoSQL for billions of records [closed]

  There are plenty of discussions around NoSQL databases around and a lot of them are about data logging in the social media section. The problem I'm trying to solve falls more into the scientific computing section, where I have several 1000s of billions of pieces of information that I want to query with different a different criteria for each query. All data is at least a 4 dimensional space, which means I have a 3D location (x,y,z) and a time component - plus the value and unit. Say temperature at xyz and 10min in degree Celcius. A typical query result may contain several million results ... I have read about pretty much all NoSQL solutions being exceptionally fast for inserting records, but when it comes to querying them it's a different story. I'm leaning towards MongoDB for the implementation and platform for developing the necessary code since it is more closely related to the current solution using MySQL. Happy to be proven wrong though when it comes to the choice of the NoSQL solution.

  I'm building a web service which uses MessageContracts, because I want to add custom fields to my SOAP header. In a previous topic, I learned that a composite response has to be wrapped. For this purpose, I devised a generic ResponseWrapper class. [MessageContract(WrapperNamespace = "http://mynamespace.com", WrapperName="WrapperOf{0}")] public class ResponseWrapper<T> { [MessageBodyMember(Namespace = "http://mynamespace.com")] public T Response { get; set; } } I made a ServiceResult base class, defined as follows: [MessageContract(WrapperNamespace = "http://mynamespace.com")] public class ServiceResult { [MessageBodyMember] public bool Status { get; set; } [MessageBodyMember] public string Message { get; set; } [MessageBodyMember] public string Description { get; set; } } To be able to include the request context in the response, I use a derived class of ServiceResult, which uses generics: [MessageContract(WrapperNamespace = "http://mynamespace.com", WrapperName = "ServiceResultOf{0}")] public class ServiceResult<TRequest> : ServiceResult { [MessageBodyMember] public TRequest Request { get; set; } } This is used in the following way [OperationContract()] ResponseWrapper<ServiceResult<HCCertificateRequest>> OrderHealthCertificate(RequestContext<HCCertificateRequest> context); I expected my client code to be generated as ServiceResultOfHCCertificateRequest OrderHealthCertificate(RequestContextOfHCCertificateRequest context); Instead, I get the following: ServiceResultOfHCCertificateRequestzSOTD_SSj OrderHealthCertificate(CompType1 c1, CompType2 c2, HCCertificateRequest context); CompType1 and CompType2 are properties of the RequestContext class. The problem is that a hash is added to the end of ServiceResultOfHCCertificateRequestzSOTD_SSj. How do I need define my generic return types in order for the client type to be generated as expected (without the hash)?

• Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion

  I tried to answer the question from Mark: Keymap issues with NX from Mac OS X Lion to Ubuntu However, it is locked so I figured I would post a new question / answer. I have been trying to answer this for a few days now because I have no issues when connecting through NX Client (technically OpenNX) to FreeNX server from an iMac (with Lion), but if I try to connect with a Macbook Pro I get horrible keyboard binding issues. The fix that is working for me is to go into: ~/.nx/config/HOST.nxs and change: <option key="Current keyboard" value="false"/> <option key="Custom keyboard layout" value="empty"/> <option key="Grab keyboard" value="false"/> I have tried this on three NX Servers and all are fixed. Hope it helps or gets you closer.
