• How do I return a purchase from the Ubuntu Software Centre?

  I purchased Amnesia (game) from the Ubuntu Software Centre. It crashes on startup every time and I therefore want to return it for a refund. I can't find a way of doing so through the USC and, strangely, I can't find any trace of this having been asked before (maybe bad googling on my part). So the question is: how do I return a purchase and get a refund through the USC? EDIT Installing proprietary driver for AMD catalyst fixed Amnesia, but I still think this is an important question because it's basic customer service for any purchase. I'd therefore appreciate any answers anyone can find and I will continue to look too. If I find the answer I'll post it here.

  A project (a "solution" to say in VS terms) of mine consists of an ASP.Net 4 Dynamic Data Entities web application, some WinForms applications, some WPF applications, some services. All they are intended to work with one SQL Server database, generated from an Entity Framework 4 model as table-per-type, with lots of inheritance and multiple self-referencing relations. Where do I best put my model? In a separate class library, a copy in every project, in one project, etc. What naming should I best use? Is it good idea to name it MySolution.MyClassLibrary.MySolutionEntities, or just MySolutionEntities or just MySolution? Can you share any useful experience on this subject?

• Website hacked, cpanel password not encrypted?

  Yesterday I found out that all the websites that are hosted on my webhosting site were hacked. I tried to change my password, and unbelievably, I COULD SEE my password there. This means my password is able to be decrypted. I asked customer support, and they say, its normal, CPanel saves the password like that. Is it true? I mean, cpanel password able to be decrypted? They blame me because my wordpress version is out of date. But 2 of my website are on different platforms. One made by CI and one by Wordpress, and all are hacked. Is this hosting reliable?

• relating data stored in NoSQL DB to data stored in SQL DB

  Whats the best way to use a SQL DB along side a NoSQL DB? I want to keep my users and other data in postgres but have some data that would be better suited for a NoSQL DB like redis. I see a lot of talk about switching to NoSQL but little talk on integrating it with existing systems. I think it would be foolish to throw the baby out with the bath water and ditch SQL all together, unless it makes things easier to maintain and develop. I'm wondering what the best approach is for relating data stored in SQL to my data in redis. I was thinking of something along the line of this. User object stored in SQL Book object in redis, key sh1 hash of value, value is a JSON string Relations stored in redis, key User.pk:books, value redis set of sha1's Anyone have experience, tips, better ways?

• Allow visitor to print something they bought only 1 time

  I am doing a website that needs to only let the customer print out what they bought 1 time. There are websites that currently do this and they mentioned Adobe Flash Player, Adobe AIR and the Sheet Music Plus AIR application. We would need to block programs like adobe distillation and any virtual printers while only allowing an instant print after purchase. I am not an adobe air developer. Would their be any other ways to accomplish this and what would be the easiest. Thank you. Would their be a way to not allow printing to a virtual printer ie adobe pdf?

• Performance impact of not implementing relationships at the database level?

  Let's imagine a data model with customers and invoices. There is a 1 to n relationship between a customer and its invoices. We uses an ORM (like Hibernate). One can explicitely implement the 1-n relationship (using JPA for example) or not. If not, then one must do a bit more work to fetch invoices. However, it is much easier to maintain, improve and develop the data model of applications where relationships between objects are not explicitely implemented in the database. My question is, has anyone noticed a significant performance impact when not implementing the relationships in the database?

  We are building a website for business on global wise, for every country major cities are covered in this concept. I need some suggestions from PHP Mysql People. Can i create single databse for all cities or multiple databases. Because in this system contains some relations between cities ,every chamber need nearly 50 tables for networking and some other tables. If I can create separate databases for every chamber there would be nearly 50*1000 tables need because we have 1000 cities. So Please give suggestions how can i build database for my system. • Redirect from domain to other one

  I deal with the following problem. I am customer of one domain reseller, which has fair prices, fine administration, and I have all my domains registered by it. Recently I've created a new webpage using a free web service (those sites where you can create a simple webpages with some template after few clicks). This new web page has default address in the following form: "pagename.provider.cz", but I want to use my own domain "pagename.cz". And that is the problem, because the provider would assign domain name to my presentation only if I registered mentioned domain by him. That wouldn't be a problem, but he is three times more expensive then my favorite one. So I am thinking about registering domain "pagename.cz" under my favorite registrator and then making 301 PHP redirect from it to "pagename.provider.cz". Shall this affect (negatively) my domain ranking? Are there any catches which I shoud care about?

• MySQL count problem

  I have 3 tables users(id,name),groups(id,name) and users_groups(user_id,group_id). users and groups have many to many relationship, so the third one is for storing users and groups relations. I would like to select all the data from groups with user count in each group. So far I came up with this: SELECT groups.*, COUNT(users_groups.user_id) AS user_count FROM groups LEFT JOIN users_groups ON users_groups.group_id = groups.id The problem is that query result is not returning any of groups which has no users (users_groups doesnt have any records with group_id of those groups). How should I create my query to select all the groups and they user count, or user count as 0 if there are no users for that group?

• Need help with events in COM in pure C++!

  Hello, guys! Very important question: Please, look at my project (300Kb). I can`t use MFC/ATL, pure C++ only. I have COM library (niapi.dll), but no sources/headers available, dll only. There is class for connecting to server (NiApi::SrvrSession), class has login event handler (NiApi::SrvrSession::OnLogin). I used #import "NiApi.dll" to generate wrappers/information, then ISrvrSessionPtr session(L"NiApi.SrvrSession"); to create object, then trying session->put_OnLogin(); to assign events, but there is no one put_On or such member. niapi.tlh have _ISrvrSessionEvents struct inside, but it have no relations with SrvrSession. I need to use events from NiApi::SrvrSession for handling connection status. Please help or my boss kill me! (sorry for broken english, I read better than speak;)

• IPhone CoreData: How should I relate many child entities to thier parents

  I am trying to import data from a database that uses primary key / forign key relations to a core data database in Xcode. I have code that creates hundreds of child entities in a managed object context: Each child has an ID that corresponds to a parent. child1 parentID = 3 child2 parentID = 17 child3 parentID = 17 ... childn parentID = 5 I now need to relate each child to its parent. The parents are all stored in persistent memory. My first thought was to preform a fetch for each child to get its parent. However, I think this would be slow. Am I correct? How should I do this instead?

• Master Data Management - The Trend Towards Multi-Domain and Other Realities

  In my quest to keep my fingers on the pulse of MDM, I recently found a pretty interesting article.  The article was published in Information Week and provides some interesting statistics from a recent survey conducted by the analyst firm, The Information Difference.  Let's take a look: Of the 130 organizations surveyed, 53% have live operational MDM implementations 81% of those with live operational MDM implementations report broad success - a huge improvement over 2011's 54% 64% developed a business case prior to their MDM deployment, while a daring 32% went ahead without a business case.    The article goes on to talk about the shift in vendors from focusing on customer data and product information management to one that is oriented around multi-domain master data management as well as other realities around MDM.  Take a look at the article. • Temenos WealthManager: performance benchmark on Exadata

  Temenos WealthManager is at work in financial institutions of all sizes. No matter the size, each of Temenos’ customers has one requirement in common: a need for fast technology. This led Temenos to conduct a performance benchmark, running its WealthManager platform on Oracle Exadata Database Machine. During the study, Temenos executed high-intensity financial engines two- to three-times faster than its previous internal benchmarks and/or largest customer throughput. The company also demonstrated greater than two-times the average improvement in response times for six-times the number of users and data volumes. Further, Temenos secured a two-times gain in service-level agreements for batch and user-oriented workloads via dedicated or parallelized processing windows. Last year Temenos also communicated the availability of its T24 core banking system and how the benchmark run demonstrated the ability of Oracle’s Exadata platform to comfortably support the highest banking volumes for T24.   I'm currently maintain a large project with more than 100000 LOC. The code use the MFC as its framework, in genral, it only has interface part which heavily use the mfc api and a business logic part which full of bad code, confusing logic. The company has some small features delivered to the customer each year(most features are adding code to exisiting project, finding some reference of some api or variable and it' s no different with fixing 3-4 bugs ), most of the tasks are to resove issue and optimize performance . Like other company with maintaining position, it value people who knows much logic about its product. There are people who can quickly finish the job on such project, is it worth to train myself like such a programmer? Is there benifits to work on such project for a long time?
