• Should I refactor this code?

  The code is for a view debate page. The code is supposed to determine whether or not to show an add reply form to the viewing user. If the user is logged in, and the user is not the creator of the debate, then check if the user already replied to the debate. If the user did not already reply to the debate then show the form... Otherwise, Check If the user wants to edit their already existing reply by looking in the url for the reply id If any of these tests dont pass, Then I save the reason as an int and pass that to a switch statement in the view. The logic seems easy enough, but my code seems a little sloppy. Here's the code.. • Please help me correct the small bugs in this image editor

  Hi, I'm working on a website that will sell hand made jewelry and I'm finishing the image editor, but it's not behaving quite right. Basically, the user uploads an image which will be saved as a source and then it will be resized to fit the user's screen and saved as a temp. The user will then go to a screen that will allow them to crop the image and then save it to it's final versions. All of that works fine, except, the final versions have 3 bugs. First is some black horizontal line on the very bottom of the image. Second is an outline of sorts that follows the edges. I thought it was because I was reducing the quality, but even at 100% it still shows up... And lastly, I've noticed that the cropped image is always a couple of pixels lower than what I'm specifying... Anyway, I'm hoping someone whose got experience in editing images with C# can maybe take a look at the code and see where I might be going off the right path. Oh, by the way, this in an ASP.NET MVC application. • Python CGI on Amazon AWS EC2 micro-instance -- a how-to!

  How can you make an EC2 micro instance serve CGI scripts from lighthttpd? For instance Python CGI? Well, it took half a day, but I have gotten Python cgi running on a free Amazon AWS EC2 micro-instance, using the lighttpd server. I think it will help my fellow noobs to put all the steps in one place. Armed with the simple steps below, it will take you only 15 minutes to set things up! My question for the more experienced users reading this is: Are there any security flaws in what I've done? (See file and directory permissions.) Step 1: Start your EC2 instance and ssh into it. [Obviously, you'll need to sign up for Amazon EC2 and save your key pairs to a *.pem file. I won't go over this, as Amazon tells you how to do it.] Sign into your AWS account and start your EC2 instance. The web has tutorials on doing this. Notice that default instance-size that Amazon presents to you is "small." This is not "micro" and so it will cost you money. Be sure to manually choose "micro." (Micro instances are free only for the first year...) Find the public DNS code for your running instance. To do this, click on the instance in the top pane of the dashboard and you'll eventually see the "Public DNS" field populated in the bottom pane. (You may need to fiddle a bit.) The Public DNS looks something like: ec2-174-129-110-23.compute-1.amazonaws.com Start your Unix console program. (On Max OS X, it's called Terminal, and lives in the Applications - Utilities folder.) cd to the directory on your desktop system that has your *.pem file containing your AWS keypairs. ssh to your EC2 instance using a command like: ssh -i <<your *.pem filename>> ec2-user@<< Public DNS address >> So, for me, this was: ssh -i amzn_ec2_keypair.pem [email protected] Your EC2 instance should let you in. Step 2: Download lighttpd to your EC2 instance. To install lighttpd, you will need root access on your EC2 instance. The problem is: Amazon will not let you sign in as root. (Not straightforwardly, at least.) But there is a workaround. Type this command: sudo /bin/bash The system prompt-character will change from $ to #. We won't exit from "sudo" until the very last step in this whole process. Install the lighttpd application (version 1.4.28-1.3.amzn1 for me): yum install lighttpd Install the FastCGI libraries for lighttpd (not needed, but why not?): yum install lighttpd-fastcgi Test that your server is working: /etc/init.d/lighttpd start Step 3: Let the outside world see your server. If you now tried to hit your server from the browser on your desktop, it would fail. The reason: By default, Amazon AWS does not open any ports to your EC2 instance. So, you have to open the ports manually. Go to your EC2 dashboard in your desktop's browser. Click on "Security Groups" in the left pane. One or more security groups will appear in the upper right pane. Choose the one that was assigned to your EC2 instance when you launched your instance. A table called "Allowed Connections" will appear in the lower right pane. A pop-up menu will let you choose "HTTP" as the connection method. The other values in that line of the table should be: tcp, 80, 80, 0.0.0.0/0 Now hit your EC2 instance's server from the desktop in your browser. Use the Public DNS address that you used earlier to SSH in. You should see the lighttpd generic web page. If you don't, I can't help you because I am such a noob. :-( Step 4: Configure lighttpd to serve CGI. Back in the console program, cd to the configuration directory for lighttpd: cd /etc/lighttpd To enable CGI, you want to uncomment one line in the < modules.conf file. (I could have enabled Fast CGI, but baby steps are best!) You can do this with the "ed" editor as follows: ed modules.conf /include "conf.d\/cgi.conf"/ s/#// w q Create the directory where CGI programs will live. (The /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf file determines where this will be.) We'll create our directory in the default location, so we don't have to do any editing of configuration files: cd /var/www/lighttpd mkdir cgi-bin chmod 755 cgi-bin Almost there! Of course you need to put a test CGI program into the cgi-bin directory. • AD-Integrated DNS failure: "Access was Denied"

  I have a single Windows 2008 R2 server configured as a domain controller with Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server. The DNS Server was recently uninstalled and reinstalled in an attempt to fix a (possibly unrelated) problem; the event log was previously flooded with errors (#4000, "The DNS Server was unable to open Active Directory...") which reinstalling did not fix. However, while before it was at least showing and resolving names from the local network (slowly), now it's showing nothing at all. (The original error started with a #4015 error "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory," followed by a long string of #4000 and a few #4004. This may have been caused when a new DNS name was recently added, but I can't be sure of the timing.) Attempting to manage the DNS through Administrative Tools > DNS brings up an error: The server SERVERNAME could not be contacted. The error was: Access was denied. Would you like to add it anyway? Selecting yes just puts a SERVERNAME item on the list, but with all the configuration options grayed out. I attempted editing my hosts file as per this post but to no avail. Running dcdiag, it does identify the home server properly, but fails right away testing connectivity with: Starting test: Connectivity The host blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda could not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc. Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your firewall settings. ......................... SERVERNAME failed test Connectivity Adding the blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda address to hosts (pointing at 127.0.0.1), the connectivity test succeeded but it didn't seem to solve the fundamental problem (Access was denied) so I hashed it out again. Primary DNS server is properly pointing at 127.0.0.1 according to ipconfig /all. And the DNS server is forwarding requests to external addresses properly (if slowly), but the resolving of local network names is borked. The DNS database itself is small enough that I am (grudgingly) able to rebuild it if need be, but the DNS Server doesn't seem willing to let me work with (or around) it at all. (and yes before you ask there are no system backups available) Where do I go from here? • Pagination links broken - php/jquery

  Hey, I'm still trying to get my pagination links to load properly dynamically. But I can't seem to find a solution to this one problem. vote down star Hi everyone, I am still trying to figure out how to fix my pagination script to work properly. the problem I am having is when I click any of the pagination number links to go the next page, the new content does not load. literally nothing happens and when looking at the console in Firebug, nothing is sent or loaded. I have on the main page 3 links to filter the content and display it. When any of these links are clicked the results are loaded and displayed along with the associated pagination numbers for that specific content. I believe the problem is coming from the sql query in generate_pagination.php (seen below). When I hard code the sql category part it works, but is not dynamic at all. This is why I'm calling $ids=$_GET['ids']; and trying to put that into the category section but then the numbers don't display at all. • FreeBSD 8.0 - Macbook: Trying to Connect to Wireless

  What Happened A few days ago I installed FreeBSD 8from USB to my Macbook (Core Duo, 13"). The first thing I wanted to do was get my GUI back. I'm new to FreeBSD and it's my first time off of mac or windows, so I had some learning to do. I tried to a make clean install of xorg with ports but it returned many "No address record" errors. I realised I hadn't configured network settings and then the fun started. I ran ifconfig and it found 5 devices: msk0, ath0, fwe0, fwip0, lo0. * ath0 was identified as media: IEEE 802.11 Wireless Ethernet autoselect so it was clear which one I needed. From what I gathered, there are 3 files and two processes involved here: /boot/loader.conf /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf /etc/rc.conf /etc/rc.d/netif wpa_supplicant (which is a part of the former too) I'm certain it's a big simplification, so correct me if I'm wrong here. What I Tried I configured /boot/loader.conf with the few basic settings, and I'm most sure that this file is okay. The other 2 were more puzzling. I tried to make a network package in wpa_supplicant.conf. I found the ssid of the router, but the security wasn't so easy. The routers configuration on security is set to "Auto", with no explanation given. Other options are there, but Auto is selected. Another laptop uses WEP to connect (it's Vista, so I don't know how to get any more info than that), but I never configured it to do it. There's a string labled "wireless key" on the bottom of the router which I entered to set it up a new machine on the network (Windows and Macs, so it was simplified). I never had to choose a security type and only learned about them by installing FreeBSD. So perhaps WEP is what "Auto" means, but I can't find any other evidence. wpa_supplicant.conf seemed to never be correctly configured. I always got errors related to it and WPA_supplicant doesn't work. It gave me "Can't disable/enable WPA in the driver" errors and more once when I enabled -d -d. This was when I was trying some suspect configurations in rc.conf though. Usually it does nothing except hijack the shell and print "CTRL-SCAN-EVENT-RESULT" every 10 seconds. I learned how to clone the ath0 device to a wlandev interface (wlan0). ath0 is associated to it and their connection seems to go smoothly. But the wlan0's connection to the network is the problem. I couldn't create this with rc.conf, I do something wrong and get ifconfig: create: bad value errors whenever it's parsed. I did it via the shell instead. What Now? I scanned with wlan0 today: ifconfig wlan0 list scan It shows my router, even my neighbour's router. It was a relief to finally get some feedback. So wlan0 is UP and detects the router, but it is always status: no carrier. It can't associate with it and I can't figure out why. Running /etc/rc.d/netif start returns almost the same result as ifconfig would. It shows lo0 and wlan0, and sometimes ath0. I still not sure what lo0 is doing. So; how do I associate with it? We can assume it's WEP security based on how the other laptop is setup. I'll give every relevant output here. What details should I feed it, what exactly is needed? What, if anything, should I have in /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf (and if that psk is needed, is it most likely the string I mentioned above)? If I define the ssid in wpa_supplicant.conf, should I still feed it to wlan0? What process should I then use to associate it? 5 .How should I add these things to rc.conf so it will automatically do this at boot? A huge thank you in advance for any help you can give, I've spent hours crawling about the shell and I've learned quite a bit from it (I finally got the hang of vi too, from all that editing). But the sooner this is fixed, the better. *P.S. I was, and still am, wondering where the extra three devices come from (the wireless and wired were all I expected to find). lo0 is up at each boot and /etc/rc.d/netif, I have no idea what it is and can't find it in dmesg.   Hello, I am implementing jQuery tabs on mysite, one of the tabs holds a form and this is my problem, the form is loaded in via ajax as it is used multiple time throughout the site.   Hi there, So to give a little background: I've an app that has a UITableViewController- (ContactDetailViewController) In this view at the top, I require a few labels and buttons, followed by a group style tableview. • Error using CreateFileMapping - C

  Hello, I am using the tutorial on this MSDN link to implement a way of transferring data from one process to another. Although I was advised in an earlier question to use the Pipe methods, due to certain constraints I have no choice but to use the CreateFileMapping method. Now, i've succesfully managed to make two seperate window form projects within the same solution and by editing some properties both of the forms load at the same time. Furthermore I have managed to implement the code given in the MSDN sample into the first (Producer) and second (Consumer) program without any compilation errors. The problem I am having now is when I run the first program and try to create the handle to the mapped file, I am given an error saying it was unsuccesful and I do not understand why this is happening. I have added both the Producer and Consumer code files to demonstrate what I am trying to do.   Alright everyone this is a bit of a complicated setup so if I need to clarify the question just let me know. I have a model: class IconSet < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :icon_graphics end This Model has many icongraphics: class IconGraphic < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :icon_set has_attached_file :icon has_attached_file :flagged end As you can see, IconGraphic has two attached files, basically two different versions of the icon that I want to load. Now, this setup is working okay if I edit the icongraphic's individually, however, for ease of use, I have all the icon graphics editable under the IconSet. However, if I edit the IconSet after the fact, and perhaps try to replace the icon with a new one, or if I uploaded only one of the set and try to add the second attachment, paperclip doesn't put the attachments with the right IconGraphic Model. It seems that even though I have the IconGraphic ID in each partial, <%= icon_form.hidden_field :id, :index => nil %> it seems that paperclip either creates a new IconGraphic or attaches it to the wrong one. This all happens when you save the IconSet, which is setup to save the IconGraphic attributes. I know this is complicated.. I may just have to go to editing each icon individually, but if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

The problem is that the content loads it displays UNDER the div i placed #CONTENT# inside so the styles are being ignored and it's posting #CONTENT# outside the divs at positions 0,0 any suggestions? Maybe all iPhone developers knows about Apple's sample code with OpenGL processing where they used GL filters(functions), but pass into them the same source image. I need to edit an image by passing it sequentelly with saving the state of the image to edit. I am very noob in OpenGL, so I spent increadibly a lot of to solve the issue. So, I desided to create 2 FBO's and attach source image and temporary image as a textures to render in. If it is another mode, than I save edited image by drawing tmpImage texture in source texture glImage, binded with glImageFBO. So, the result is VERY aggresive filtering. Increasing contrast volume by just 0.2 brings image to state that comparable with 0.9 contrast volume in Apple's sample code project. I miss something obvious, I guess. Interesting, if I disabple line glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, glImage->texID); in setContrast routine it brings no effect. At all. If I replace tmpImageFBO with SystemFBO to draw glImage directly on display(and disabling redraw invoking line), all works fine. Please, HELP ME!!! :(

  Hi all. I am creating a social tool - I want to allow search engines to pick up "public" user profiles - like twitter and face-book. I have seen all the protocol info at http://www.sitemaps.org and i understand this and how to build such a file - along with an index if i exceed the 50K limit. Where i am struggling is the concept of how i make this run. The site map for my general site pages is simple i can use a tool to create the file - or a script - host the file - submit the file and done. What i then need is a script that will create the site-maps of user profiles. If the profile is changed or if "certain" properties are changed - then i don't know if i update the entry in the map - or do something else? (updating would be a nightmare!) Some users may change their profile. In terms of relevance to the search engine the only way a google or yahoo search will find the users (for my requirement) profile would be for example by means of [user name] and [location] so once the entry for the profile has been added to the map file the only reason to have the search-bot re-index the profile would be if the user changed their user-name - which they cant. or their location - and or set their settings so that their profile would be "hidden" from search engines. I assume my map creation will need to be dynamic. From what i have said above i would imagine that creating a new profile and possible editing certain properties could mark it as needing adding/updating in the sitemap. Assuming i will have millions of profiles added/being edited how can i manage this in a sensible manner. i know i need a script that can append urls as each profile is created i know the script will prob be a TASK - running at a set freq - perhaps the profiles have a property like "indexed" and the TASK sets them to "true" when the profiles are added to the map. I dont see the best way to store the map - do i store it in the datastore i.e; model=sitemaps properties key_name=sitemap_xml_1 (and for my map sitemap_index_xml) mapxml=blobstore (the raw xml map or ror map) full=boolean (set true when url count is 50) # might need this as a shard will tell us To make this work my thoughts are m cache the current site map structure as "sitemap_xml" keep a shard of url count when my task executes 1. build the xml structure for say the first 100 urls marked "index==false" (how many could u run at a time?) 2. test if the current mcache sitemap is full (shardcounter+10050K) 3.a if the map is near full create a new map entry in models "sitemap_xml_2" - update the map_index file (also stored in my model as "sitemap_index" start a new shard - or reset.2 3.b if the map is not full grab it from mcache 4.append the 100 url xml structure 5.save / m cache the map I can now add a handler using a url map/route like /sitemaps/* Get my * as map name and serve the maps from the blobstore/mache on the fly. Now my question is does this work - is this the right way or a good way to start? Will this handle the situation of making sure the search bots update when a user changes their profile - possibly by setting the change freq correctly? - Do i need a more advance system :( ? or have i re-invented the wheel! I hope this is all clear and make some form of sense :-)

Now my simulation has to be able to find and delete certain Event objects not at the top of the queue. I'd like to know if my planned work-around can do what I need it to, and if I have the syntax right. I'd also like to know if dramatically better solutions exist. Would it be dramatically easier to store the Events themselves in EventPQ instead? Does it make more sense to remove the time keys from Event objects and use them instead as keys in a multimap? Assuming the current implementation seems okay, my questions are: Do I need to specify how to sort on the pointers, rather than the objects, or does the multiset automatically know to sort on the objects pointed to? If I have a shared_ptr ptr1 to an Event that also has a pointer in the EventPQ container, how do I find and delete the corresponding pointer in EventPQ? Is it enough to .find( ptr1 ), or do I instead have to find by the key (time)? Is the Event::remove() sufficient for removing the pointer in the EventPQ container? There's a small chance multiple events could be created with the same time (obviously implied in the use of multiset). If the find() works on event times, to avoid accidentally deleting the wrong event, I was planning to throw in a further check on eventID and hostID. Does this seem reasonable? (Dumb syntax question) In Event.h, is the declaration of dummy class Event;, then the EventPQ typedef, and then the real class Event declaration appropriate? I'm obviously an inexperienced programmer with very spotty background--this isn't for homework. Would love suggestions and explanations. Please let me know if any part of this is confusing. Thanks.

• Pagination links do not work after first page

  Hello, I am trying to fix this pagination script. It seems when I click on the pagination links [1][2][3][4]or[5] , it doesn't work. It just shows the first page and when clicking on the next numbers nothing happens. I hoping someone can see something in the script that I can not see.
