  • Get file size of BufferedImage before writing the data

    I'm working on a Java program that needs to send an image (preferably in PNG format, though I could perhaps use another format if necessary) over the network. The logical way to do this is, of course, to first send the length of the PNG image data, then the data itself. Problem: I don't see any method in ImageIO or anywhere else that will give me the length of the image data. Does this exist somewhere in the Java 1.6 standard library? I know I could just write it to a ByteArrayOutputStream and get the length of the resulting array, but before resorting that I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something built in. And besides, that makes an extra copy of the image data, which I'd rather not do if it's not necessary.

    Consider the following code: SET @SQL1 = 'SELECT * INTO #temp WHERE ...' exec(@SQL1) SELECT * from #temp (this line throws an error that #temp doesn't exist) Apparently this is because the exec command spins off a separate session and #temp is local to that session. I can use a global temporary table ##temp, but then I have to come up with a naming scheme to avoid collisions. What do you all recommend?

    Recently, I was going around looking for ideas on what I can build using C this summer and I came across this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1257376/interesting-project-to-learn-c Implement a programming language. This doesn't have to be terribly hard - I did the language that must not be named - but it will force you to learn a lot of the important parts of C. If you don't want to write a lexer and/or parser yourself, you can use lex/flex and yacc/bison, but if you plan on that you might want to start with a somewhat smaller project. I was kinda intrigued about the implementing a programming language answer and I'm wondering how do I go about starting this? I've gone through the whole K&R book and I've done some of the exercises as well. I also have a bit of experience in C++ and Java if that matters. Any tips? Thanks!

  • Referencing java resource files for cold fusion

    I am using a .Jar file containing a .properties file in my CF code, however it seems unable to find the .properties file when run from CF. My CF code is simply: propTest = CreateObject("java","package.class"); testResults = propTest.main2(); Is there a special way to reference the .properties file so CF can access it, or do I need to include the file outside the .jar somewhere?

    I am trying to set up automated .htaccess updating. This clearly needs to be as secure as possible, however right now the best I can do file permission-wise is 666. What can I do to setup either my server or php code so that my script's fwrite() command will work with 644 or better? For instance is there a way to set my script(s) to run as owner?

    For every Card, I would like to attach a special number to them that increments by one. I assume I can do this all in the controller. def create @card = Card.new(params[:card]) @card.SpecNum = @card.SpecNum ++ ... end Or. I can be blatantly retarded. And maybe the best bet is to add an auto-incremement table to mysql. The problem is the number has to start at a specific number, 1020. Any ideas?

  • Writing to CSV issue in Spyder

    I am doing the Kaggle Titanic beginner contest. I generally work in Spyder IDE, but I came across a weird issue. The expected output is supposed to be 418 rows. When I run the script from terminal the output I get is 418 rows (as expected). When I run it in Spyder IDE the output is 408 rows not 418. When I re-run it in the current python process, it outputs the expected 418 rows. I posted a redacted portion of the code that has all of the relevant bits.     I would like to use Python's tempfile module to create a temporary file that I will use for communication between processes (use of pipes is awkward). The documentation I've linked to above shows two functions that almost do what I want: tempfile.NamedTemporaryFile # For creating named tempfiles tempfile.SpooledTemporaryFile # For creating tempfiles in memory but actually I want a tempfile that is both named AND in memory. Any ideas?

I have read a lot of articles about AI in board games, minmax with or without alphabeta pruning, but I don't really know how to implements this, I don't know where to start... About my game, this is a turn-based game, each player has pieces on the board, they have to pick one and choose in moving this piece (1 or 2 cells max) or clone the piece (1 cell max). The book states that to write great software (i.e. software that is well-designed, well-coded, easy to maintain, reuse, and extend) you need to do three things: Firstly, make sure the software does everything the customer wants it to do Once step 1 is completed, apply Object Oriented principles and techniques to eliminate any duplicate code that might have slipped in Once steps 1 and 2 are complete, then apply design patterns to make sure the software is maintainable and reusable for years to come. My question is, do you follow these steps when developing great software? If not, what steps do you usually follow inorder to ensure it's well designed, well-coded, easy to maintain, reuse and extend?

  • Beginner servlet question: accessing files in a .war, which path?

    When a third-party library I'm using tries to access a file, I'm getting "Error opening ... file ... (No such file or directory)" even though I KNOW the file is in the WAR. I've tried both packaged (.war) and "exploded" (directory) deployment, and the file is definitely there. I've tried setting full permissions on it too. It's on Unix (Ubuntu). File is war/dict/index.sense and the error is "dict/index.sense (No such file or directory)". It works fine on my Windows computer when running in hosted mode as a GWT app from Eclipse, just not when I transfer it to the Unix machine for deployment. My question is: has anybody experienced this before and/or are there differences in relative path that I should consider i.e. what's the root path for relative file access in a war?

  • Why can't I reserve 1,000,000,000 in my vector ?

    When I type in the foll. code, I get the output as 1073741823. #include <iostream> #include <vector> using namespace std; int main() { vector <int> v; cout<<v.max_size(); return 0; } However when I try to resize the vector to 1,000,000,000, by v.resize(1000000000); the program stops executing. How can I enable the program to allocate the required memory, when it seems that it should be able to? I am using MinGW in Windows 7. I have 2 GB RAM. Should it not be possible? In case it is not possible, can't I declare it as an array of integers and get away? BUt even that doesn't work. Another thing is that, suppose I would use a file(which can easily handle so much data ). How can I let it read and write and the same time. Using fstream file("file.txt', ios::out | ios::in ); doesn't create a file, in the first place. But supposing the file exists, I am unable to use to do reading and writing simultaneously. WHat I mean is this : Let the contents of the file be 111111 Then if I run : - #include <fstream> #include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { fstream file("file.txt",ios:in|ios::out); char x; while( file>>x) { file<<'0'; } return 0; } Shouldn't the file's contents now be 101010 ? Read one character and then overwrite the next one with 0 ? Or incase the entire contents were read at once into some buffer, should there not be atleast one 0 in the file ? 1111110 ? But the contents remain unaltered. Please explain. Thank you.
