• Connecting to TFS via ASP.NET, jQuery and Phonegap

  I want to develop a mobile application that would allow the user the ability to run a suite of automated test cases housed in TFS. This is something I thought of this morning so it's all still very preliminary. But I'm curious as to what would be the best route for something like this? Or if it's even possible? Because the mobile devices from the users will vary from iphones to droids, I would probably want to incorporate something like Phonegap for it's cross platform capabilities. My initial thought was to develop in ASP.net/C# (which would be stored on a remote server), and have jQuery make calls to that server. Not sure if that would be the most appropriate way of handling this. I'm not too familiar with JSON but I have seen it as a suggestion on various sites to handle the returned data. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

  Hi! This question follows this: handling to onchange event of AutoCompleteTextField in wicket I'm trying to use the AutoCompleteTextField with a custom class as the generic type, and to add an AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior. What I mean is I want to have a AutoCompleteTextField<SomeClass> myAutoComplete = ...; and after that add a AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior: myAutoComplete.add(new AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior("onchange") { @Override protected void onUpdate(AjaxRequestTarget target) { System.out.println( "Value: "+getValue() ); } }); The problem is that for some reason, adding that behavior makes the form try to set the model object with a String (even though the AutoCompleteTextField has a generic type of SomeClass), causing a ClassCastException when the onchange event fires. Is there a way to use AutoCompleteTextField without it being AutoCompleteTextField<String>? I couldn't find any example. • .net MVC, dealing with json and Areas

  When not using areas dealing with the url for the JsonResults from the clientside is not much of a pain, usually you can get away with hardcoding the url into your json calls and get away with it. Problem arises when you have different areas and you don't want to update all your links when you move a controller (and its views) from one area to the other. I'm not very satisfied with the way I'm handling this scenario by having this chunk of code inside every view: <script type="text/javascript"> var ControllerActions = { JsonSearch: '<%= Url.Action("JsonSearch") %>/', JsonDelete: '<%= Url.Action("JsonDelete") %>/', Edit: '<%= Url.Action("Edit") %>/', Delete: '<%= Url.Action("Delete") %>/' } </script> While it does work no matter where I place the views/controllers I wonder if there's a more elegant to do this.

  I have a simple windows application that pops up an input box for users to enter in a date to do searches. How do I identify if the user clicked on the Cancel button, or merely pressed OK without entering any data as both appear to return the same value? I have found some examples of handling this in VB 6 but none of them really function in the .NET world. Ideally I would like to know how to handle the empty OK and the Cancel seperately, but I would be totally ok with just a good way to handle the cancel.

  Are there any programming exercises that apply to any language? Before I got my first job, I thought I knew C# pretty well, then I was thrown right into the deep end, and now I know I have a good command over the language. I would like to apply the same method to other languages, but unfortunately, I'm sort of stuck with C# at work. Ideally, something similar (but broader in scope) to Project Euler is ideal. Project Euler helped me learn a ton of C++/F#, some math, algorithms, handling bignums, etc. I'm looking for something like this.

  On my view, I used to have few buttons and each button had an action associated with it. • How to disable typing in values in Dojo's NumberSpinner?

  Hi, is there a way to disable typing in of values in the NumberSpinner of Dojo? Or is there a way for me to set back a previous value to it? Here's a sample situation: I have a spinner where the range is 1-3. However, the user types in an invalid value... say, a letter. The usual error handling happens. However, if the user deletes the value and focuses out (e.g. goes to another widget/control/etc. in the page), the spinner stays blank. Either I reset it to the last valid value or I disable typing so that the user can just use the up and down arrows to manipulate the widget. Any thoughts? Thanks!

But keep getting string out of bounch exeption and i start wondering if i am handling this in the wrong way. Anyone that can put me in the right direction in how to solve this?

• What is the difference between panic and an assert?

  Go doesn't provide assertions. They are undeniably convenient, but our experience has been that programmers use them as a crutch to avoid thinking about proper error handling and reporting. However it has print and println which does panic like print, aborts execution after printing panicln like println, aborts execution after printing Isnt that the same thing as an assert? Why would they claim the above but have panic? i can see it leading to the same problems but adding an error msg to the end of it which can easily be abused. Am i missing something?

  The framework I'm using on my project follows the MVC Pattern. I"M building JSON feeds and need to structure them in a different way then what the system gives me by default from the ORM. Where should I be handling the task of mangling and shaping my data that I'll serve up, in the model, view or controller? Right now I'm doing it in my controller, then passing that data to the view. I can see this fitting better under the Model or the View but not sure which one.

• Firefox DOMParser problem

  For some reason DOMParser is adding some additional #text elements for each newline \n for this url http://rt.com/Root.rss ...as well as many other RSS I've tried. I checked cnn/bbc feeds, they don't have newlines and dom parser handling them nicely. So I have to add the following before parsing it var xmlText = htmlText.replace(/\n[ ]*/g, ""); var xmlDoc = parser.parseFromString(xmlText, "text/xml"); Server is returning text/xml. var channel = xmlDoc.documentElement.childNodes[0]; this returning \n without my code above and channel with correction.

• Is it possible to have a .NET route that maps to the same place as a directory?

  I'm building a CMS using WebForms on .NET 4.0 and have the following route that allows URLs like www.mysite.com/about to be mapped to the Page.aspx page, which looks up the dynamic content. routes.MapPageRoute("page", "{name}", "~/Page.aspx"); The problem is that I have a couple of folders in my project that are interfering with possible URLs. For example, I have a folder called "blog" where I store pages related to handling blog functionality, but if someone creates a page for their site called "blog" then navigating to www.mysite.com/blog gets the following error: 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied. Other similar URLs route correctly, but I think because .NET is identifying /blog as a physical location on the server it is denying directory access. Is there a way to tell IIS / .NET to only look for physical files instead of files and folders?

• Which Java Web Framework allows Cross-Domain Javascripting (http proxy) ?

  So just a quick intro, I am starting to explore Vaadin, and it's absolutely perfect. Previously, I was juggling PHP, Perl, Ruby, and Jquery for designing rich client web application. It didn't work out too well, as I've burnt out from trying to fix cross browser issues (aka get-it-to-work-on-IE-damn-it), handling server-side, client-side, and building a robust communication between the two tier had lot of code not related to application logic....by the time I was burnt out, only tiny bit of application logic was implemented. Vaadin seems like the answer to my problem as it only requires Java and built on top of GWT. However, I am curious how I can incorporate Cross-Domain Javascripting ? Back in LAMP environment, I had a CGI proxy script that loaded external URL, and injected JS into the proxy-loaded page. I used the CGI proxy script, as it rendered Javascript of the external URL well. Is there a class or package for Java or a specific Java web framework similiar to Vaadin that makes this possible ? My question is, how (if at all) can Python compliment the skills of a typical C# developer working mainly with MS technologies on a Windows Platform. Some examples of typical C# dev on windows would be (SOA applications, web applications, windows services, automation, xml handling) Surely there must be some scenarios where knowing Python would help you get certain tasks done quicker or more efficiently than using traditional C# / MS technologies.   While the NSCurrentLocaleDidChangeNotification perfectly makes sense on Mac OS X, I don't see how you can possibly receive it on iPhone OS. In order to change the locale, you have to quit the running application, then change it in Settings ? General ? International ? Region Format. At that point, your app is not running, so how could it receive the notification? I first thought this notification was leftover from the Mac OS X documentation, but then I found this in Apple Push Notification Service Programming Guide: The application might send its provider the preferred language every time the user changes something in the current locale. To do this, you can listen for the notification named NSCurrentLocaleDidChangeNotification and, in your notification-handling method, get the code identifying the preferred language and send that to your provider. So, how do you trigger this notification on iPhone OS?

• __defineSetter__ on innerHTML stops it from rendering

  Hi, i'm trying to create a watch method for HTML elements, using __define[GS]etter__ when a property is changed. It reacts just fine when i set the value, but if the property listened to, is innerHTML, it somehow fails to render the given string. So basically, when im adding something to innerHTML it doesn't show. Im using the watch method described in this previous question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1269633/javascript-watch-for-object-properties-changes I could of cause just not listen to innerHTML changes, but i'm also wondering if the __defineSetter__ somehow prevents original handling of setting the value.   I have the following class structure for custom UITableViewCells: NumericEntryCell - Contains method for controlling max value that can be entered into a textbox. SliderCell - inherits from NEC and contains methods for handling slider-control of textbox value TextOnlyCell - just contains a textbox CellA - inherits from SliderCell and has a max value of 28 CellB - inherits from TextOnlyCell and has a max value of 150. I want NumericEntryCell to contain a definition for a property that contains the maxValue. I want to be able to set a value for this in the initialize method of a child class (CellA or CellB). Currently I have an int maxValue declared in the interface of NEC. I declare a property for this with @property int maxValue and @synthesize it within the .m file. However, attempting to modify this property's value from CellA or CellB's initialize method has no effect - when I hit a breakpoint in the NEC method that uses this value, its value is always zero. How can I get this to work?

  I would like to distinguish date at midnight (i.e. '12/05/2010 00:00:00') from date without time specified (i.e. '12/05/2010'). This value is provided by user, sometimes it is only date which is important, sometimes it is date and time and later the application is expected to show the time only when it was explicitly provided. So for the following inputs I would expect the following outputs: for '12/05/2010' I would expect '12/05/2010' for '12/05/2010 09:23' I would expect '12/05/2010 09:23' for '12/05/2010 00:00' I would expect '12/05/2010 00:00' I know I can model it in two separate columns, date and time, but I was wondering was there any way of handling this in single date column?

• Embed external website inside a page

  I'd like to load something from website B into a page on website A and contain the functionality of website B within a container on website A. I tried doing this using a div and jQuery's load() method but I run into cross-domain-scripting issues (I think, it works with a local file but not a remote URL). I also tried using an iframe but strange things happen (for example, when a link is clicked in the "contained" website B, it reloads the entire browser, losing the content of website A). I've read about some server-side ways of handling this (and it may just come to that) but ideally I want something completely client side, JavaScript and HTML. Any ideas?

• Is PThread a good choice for multi-platorm C/C++ multi-threading program?

  Been doing mostly Java and smattering of .NET for last five years and haven't written any significant C or C++ during that time. So have been away from that scene for a while. If I want to write a C or C++ program today that does some multi-threading and is source code portable across Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux/Unix - is PThread a good choice? The C or C++ code won't be doing any GUI, so won't need to worry with any of that. For the Windows platform, I don't want to bring a lot of Unix baggage, though, in terms of unix emulation runtime libraries. Would prefer a PThread API for Windows that is a thin-as-possible wrapper over existing Windows threading APIs. ADDENDUM EDIT: Am leaning toward going with boost:thread - I also want to be able to use C++ try/catch exception handling too. And even though my program will be rather minimal and not particularly OOPish, I like to encapsulate using class and namespace - as opposed to C disembodied functions.

Specifically, I'm looking for a project structure that affords the following: Hierarchical (directory) structure of templates and partial templates Allow me to use HTML tools/editors on my templates (embedding template text in xxx.go files makes this difficult) Automatic reload of template text when on dev server Potential stumbling blocks are: template.ParseGlob() will not traverse recursively. For performance reasons it has been recommended not to upload your templates as raw text files (because those text files reside on different servers than executing code). Please note that I am not looking for a tutorial/examples of the use of the template package. This is more of an app structure question. That being said, if you have code that solves the above problems, I would love to see it. Thanks in advance.

  I have a "server" table which has a column named 'SN' in mysql, when do query to retrive servers with some sns from 'sn1' to 'sn10000', we can: select * from server where sn in ('sn1','sn2','sn3',...'sn10000'); If there is only one sn in 'sn1'-'sn10000' which not exists in database, then the query above will retrive 9999 rows of result. The question is how can I easily get which one in 'sn1'-'sn10000' is not exists in database except the additional work, such as handling the result with shell script etc. I have an ugly sql like below can use: select * from (select 'sn1' as sn union select 'sn2' union select 'sn3' .... union select 'sn10000') as SN where not exists (select id from server where server.sn=SN.sn); Is Anyone has other better methods? • How to make MDIChild Transparent?

  I'd successfully made a normal Form Transparent by handling the OPACITY property. Now, I want to make an MDIChild (loaded in an MDIParent) transparent. Is that possible? I'd applied the same technique (mentioned above) for the MDIChild. But, was unsucessful. Is it possible to make the MDIChild tranparent. Does anyone had done that before?
