    What are your experiences using Amazons EBS snapshot features for MySql hot backups. I have a database running a batch processing job in ec2. I backup with EBS snapshot. So far the backups looks consistent. But I am afraid they "will stop being consistent as soon as I stop checking" (Uncertainty principle). What are your experiences with backuping relational databases (and mysql in particular) with ebs snapshot?

  • Howcan I get started with Spring Batch?

    I'm trying to learn Spring Batch, but the startup guide is very confusing. Comments like You can get a pretty good idea about how to set up a job by examining the unit tests in the org.springframework.batch.sample package (in src/main/java) and the configuration in src/main/resources/jobs. aren't exactly helpful. Also I find the Sample project very complicated (17 non-empty Namespaces with 109 classes)! Is there a simpler place to get started with Spring Batch?

    Can someone please help as i've spent all day trying to fix this. I installed the latest XAMPP and now i can't connect to mysql from terminal.I checked my .profile file and the PATH seems ok. Does anyone know whats happened and what's the solution? PATH=$PATH:/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/bin export PATH THIS IS A PROGRAMMING QUESTION AS I'M A PHP DEVELOPER TRYING TO DO MY JOB!   • Offline product catalog

    I am looking for a way to automate the production of an offline product catalog using product data contained in an SQL Server database. I have thought about using both Crystal Reports and SQL Server Reporting Services for this but there may be something better suited for the job. There is a requirement to display product images also (currently stored in the database). I thought about perhaps doing a simple Word Mail Merge for this but am not sure how I will handle images. I have found plugins for Twitter, plugins for Facebook, plugins for OpenID.. but I'm afraid integration of all thos plugins will be tough. I'm trying to gain a better understanding of the lower-level workings of computing and picked up "Design of the UNIX Operating System" by Maurice Bach. What do I need to know in terms of which topics in this book may not be relevant to understanding Linux nuts and bolts? Is there a newer book or Linux-specific book that I should read instead? I really like the clarity of this particular book, though.

    Let's say there's a table created as follows: create table testTable ( colA int not null ) How would you drop the not null constraint? I'm looking for something along the lines of ALTER TABLE testTable ALTER COLUMN colA DROP NOT NULL; which is what it would look like if I used PostgreSQL. To my amazement, as far as I've been able to find, the MySQL docs, Google and yes, even Stackoverflow (in spite of dozens or hundreds of NULL-related questions) don't seem to lead towards a single simple SQL statement which will do the job.

  • How to save preferences to somewhere other than SharedPreferences

    My application is used on multiple platforms so it saves it preferences to a file (rather than to the standard Android SharedPreferences). Is there any easy of reusing the PreferenceActivity to save preferences to a file or is it a case of creating a whole new activity to do the job? If the latter is the case is there a layout I can use that will make the activity look like the normal preferences screen? PreferenceActivity uses com.android.internal.R.layout.preference_list_content but this doesn't appear to be available to apps for reuse.

    Hi there, I am currently building a webshop for my own where I want to increment the product-stock when the user fails to complete payment within 10 minutes after the customer placed the order. I want to gather information from this thread to make a design decision. I am using SQL Server 2008 and ASP.NET 3.5.     Hi i am writing a HTML parser for helping with some job duties, I can enter the site using IE explorer. but using csharp code i get an error i have tried using client.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials; client.Proxy.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; i don't get the requested page, but an error page. if i can view page in explorer there must be a way to retrieve its html in C# (note that same page in other browsers requires authintication - not in IE) appreciate the help

  • Validate Linq2Sql before SubmitChanges()

    Can anyone tell me if/how you can validate the changes in a data context in Linq2Sql before calling SubmitChanges(). The situation I have is that I create a context, perform multiple operations and add many inserts alongside other processing tasks and then rollback if the submit fails. What I'd prefer to do is make some kind of "Validate()" call after certain tasks are done so that I can handle it before submitting the entire job.
