• JDBC Realm: GlassFish v2.1 = OK; GlassFish v3 = fail with invaliduserreason

  In my J2EE 5 application I have a JDBC Realm based security with Form method. Encrypt method is MD5 as default. The database is PostgreSQL 8.4 installed locally (or 8.3 available via lan). My app used to work finely on GlassFish v2.1 server with PostgreSQL 8.3, but now I need to deploy it on GlassFish v3. I am absolutely sure I have done all the same config on GFv3 like creating Connection Pool (which pings with no problem), JDBC Resource and JDBC Realm. But on GFv3 I get login exception with "invaliduserreason" while the database schema is just created from the working database script. I have checked the data and entered login/password thousand times and it seems that data is all right. So where can I find the reason of unworking security? Please, advice. NetBeans 6.8 Thanks.

• Networking DOS within Windows 7 XP Mode, with a Windows XP/7 Networked Share

  For awhile now, one of my clients has been stuck with Corel Paradox 4.0 (it used to be the biggest database system in the DOS days, until Microsoft released Access in the early 90's) so for awhile I've managed to keep it on life support on Windows XP for a few years, however since switching to Windows 7 x64, I've had to resort to using XP Mode as the sandbox to keep it up and running. While I am able to run Paradox as usual in XP Mode, I'm having a serious issue where if I try connecting the install to the network share (which is located on the Windows 7 portion of the system), Paradox keeps exiting because it says the serial number is invalid. Now, I know for a fact that this is an issue with the virtual loopback adapter and also having the VM linked to the physical ethernet adapter -- and while I have solved this issue before, most of my fixes have been bandages since after a few weeks the issue pops up again. Long story short, I wanted to ask if there is a permanent way to link a DOS program to a network share address. For example, when I try doing \tsclient\paradox (the Windows 7 Address) I keep getting an error saying I need a valid network address. I've tried mapping that folder to various drive letters such as P:\Paradox -- but for some reason that keeps failing over time. For what it's worth, Paradox uses a .SOM file to store the network settings, however it isn't editable in Notepad but rather it's controlled by a wizard in Paradox. But if that extension rings any bells, I'd welcome any insights.

• Webcam becomes "Unknown Device" after Windows Messenger 2011 is installed

  I have Sony VAIO VGN-NS290J laptop. I installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I was able to find drivers for all hardware without any problems. Recently, I installed Microsoft Windows Live Essentials 2011, i.e. Windows Live Messenger 2011. Ever since that application is running on my computer, my webcam is not recognized by the OS any more. It is listed as the "Unknown Device" and placed in the Universal Serial Bus controllers group in the Device Manager. There don't seem to be any drivers for this webcam. It's a standard Sony Motion Eye web camera and Sony does not offer any drivers for it. There is one application to download that utilizes the camera, but there are no drivers (and the system is showing the same behavior regardless of the presence of the application). It happens from time to time that the webcam becomes recognized by the OS again, after a couple of restarts; but not always. Then it becomes unknown again. I am absolutely positive that this issue is caused by the Windows Live Messenger 2011, because same symptoms caused the same effects before. I wish to be able to continue to use this software, but also to use my webcam. I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue and if there is a way to fix it. Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it. Update: I have discovered a pattern - if the camera goes astray, restarting the machine does not bring it back; but switching the computer off and turning it back on does. Every time! This is getting super complicated :)

  I am trying to get xdebug working with eclipse (3.5) / php (on xampp windows 7). I have verified xdebug is enabled in php - I have the fancy output and my phpinfo shows all the xdebug stuff. I have remote debug on, and typed in the lan ip address on my eclipse machine. When I tell eclipse to debug, it launches the browser and passes the debug URL parameters. That looks OK. However, in eclipse debug perspective it shows 'launching myproject' 57% 'waiting for xdebug session'. It sits there forever. I have turned off windows firewall on both machines. I tried turning implicit flush on. Any ideas?

• System.Net.WebProxy in .NET Client

  I don't yet have a good understanding of how the network is set up at my current client, but here is my issue. The vendor has a normal URL, but it might be a leased line. I have a .NET program that calls an external .asmx service. If I go to IE, Connections, LAN Settings, and uncheck "Automatic detect settings" and uncheck "Use Automatic Configuration Sript", then the .NET program runs and access the web service fine. But then, to access internet again from the browser, I have to re-check the two boxes, and so on throughout the day while we are testing and browsing. I'm hoping to put some code like this in the .NET program to avoid us having to constantly change: if (chkUseProxy.Checked) { myclient.Proxy = new System.Net.WebProxy(""); } I tried null and empty string and so far not able to connect without errors. Is this possible, and if so, what might be the correct parms for the constructor? Or are there other objects or properties that would need to be set? Thanks, Neal Walters

• Primary zone will not transfer to secondary zone

  Using DNS on Windows Server 2008, there is a constant struggle with adding primary and secondary zones. I will add a primary zone to NS1 for a new domain, edit it as needed, and when it's ready add the secondary zone to NS2. However, MOST of the time, the secondary zone remains in an error state, and will never acquire the primary zone data. I have gone back to domains a few weeks after adding them to find out that Windows never propagated the change. Annoying. Anyway, I recently updated SP1 to SP2 thinking this would help, but it hasn't. I added two new domains today, and spent an hour after the secondary zone would just not sync. During that time, the only error in the logs I had seen was for one of them where DNS complained about not being authoritative. In order to eventually resolve the issue, I ended up deleting the primary zone, creating a new primary zone, and hitting "Apply" after each and every field change. For example, after modifying the serial number from "1" to a date appropriate "2010093001", I hit apply, and then the Primary Server (apply), Responsible Person (apply), and finally Name Servers (apply). After I did this, the secondary zone didn't waste any time getting the data. Ideas?

• How do I run a stable Windows XP kvm guest on Ubuntu 10.04?

  I have three Windows XP guests running on a recently upgraded 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 system. Occasionally (on the order of once every few days), one of the guests will become non-responsive and the kvm process on the host which is running that guest will start consuming 100% CPU. It will continue to do so until it is killed. When restarted, it will be fine for a while, and then the issue repeats.   Im trying to write a server/service that broadcasts a message on the lan ever second or so, Kind of like a service discovery. The message needs to be received by multiple client programs that could be on the same machine or different machines. But there could be more than one program on each machine running at the same time. Im using delphi7, with indy 9.0.18 where im stuck is if i should be using UDP or IP MultiCast or if its even possible... Ive managed to get it to work with IP Multi Cast with one client per machine, but even after many trys with different bindings.. max/min ports etc, i cant seem to find a solution.

• WEB-INF/lib jars not found in JBoss 4.0.2 war deploy

  I have a simple web application (one jsp and one servlet) file that I've copied into jboss-4.0.2/server/default/deploy folder and it has successfully hot deployed as I can access the jsp page. However, when I invoke the servlet, I am getting a java.lan.NoClassDefFoundError. I suspect that the jars under the WEB-INF/lib directory within the war is not being picked up. The structure of my war is: META-INF --> MANIFEST.MF WEB-INF --> classes --> ...*.classes --> lib --> jcommon-1.0.16.jar jfreechart-1.0.13.jar servlet-api.jar index.jsp Anybody else have classloading issues in JBoss 4? • Trying to delete a directory stored on a WIndows server, mounted on a mac

  I am trying to delete a directory stored on a Windows 2008 R2 server, mounted on a Mac as network home (10.8.5). The directory was created by Safari and stores temporary internet files. I need to be able to delete this folder on logout from a Mac bash script. • VNC server failed to start CentOS

  I followed a tutorial on how to install and get VNCserver to run on CentOS 6 (since freenx isnt supported yet) and I keep getting Starting VNC server: 1:user [FAILED] How do I figure out whats going on here? Im new to Linux/CentOS and im trying to get RDP going so I can step away from SSH as much as possible (you know us Windows users love our pretty GUI's). • Light-weight client/server DB?

  Hello, (This question falls between programming and finding a tool, so I guess I'll ask here in SO since it has more activity than SuperUser.) I like the simplicity of SQLite, but by design, it doesn't support concurrent access. The apps I write don't have heavy needs, so I'd like to avoid heavier solutions like MySQL that are more difficult to deploy (remote customers with usually no computer personnel). Does someone know of a good solution that would offer the following features? Client available for VB.Net applications The server itself doesn't have to be a .Net application. Actually, I'd rather a bare-metal server so that it can run even on embedded Linux hosts with less RAM/CPU than regular PC's Easy install: the client part should either be statically linked inside the client application or be available as a single DLL, and the server should just be a single EXE listening for queries, à la Fossil (http://www.fossil-scm.org) clients can locate the server on the LAN by broadcasting data picked up by the server, so users don't have to write down the IP address and paste it into each client open-source, or moderately priced closed-source Thank you.

  Hi, I have a home server, on which I have installed Apache, and several other applications that have a Web GUI (JDownloader, Free Download Manager). In order to access each of these apps (whether be it from the local network or the Internet), I have to enter a different port, e.g., http:// server:8085 or http:// xxxx.dyndns.org:8085 for Apache, http:// server:90 or http:// xxxx.dyndns.org:90 for FDM, http:// server:8081 or http:// xxxx.dyndns.org:8081 for JDownloader. I would like to be able to access them using sub-domains, e.g, http:// apache.server or http:// apache.xxxx.dyndns.org for Apache, http:// fdm.server or http:// fdm.xxxx.dyndns.org for FDM, http:// jdownloader.server or http:// jdownloader.xxxx.dyndns.org for JDownloader. First of all, would it be possible like I want it, i.e., both from LAN and Internet, and if yes, how? • Unable to send email on production server with ASP.NET MVC

  I have a simple ASP.NET MVC application with a contact page. In my development machine (local) I can send successfully emails (I specify host and credentials), but on the production server this doesn't work and I get this error: System.Net.Mail.SmtpFailedRecipientException: Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local at System.Net.Mail.SmtpTransport.SendMail... The server is in my LAN (the mail server too). I tried with multiple accounts but I have errors every time. Credentials for the account are provided at runtime with smtp.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "password"); Any idea?   I have the following problem and really need your help I'm implementing a small server to receive request from client on port 18999(just sample) using TCP socket. When I tested my server by using a lot of requests from a tablet through a router, I got the ARP problem(?) My net work just like: TABLET <------- WIRELESS ROUTER <------- MY SERVER (LINUX) Problems: 1. Can not connect to my Linux any more ( telnet, ping v.v...unreachable) 2. I use serial cable to connect to my Linux machine and use Wiresharp (from Windows) to catch the send message from Linux. It says that Linux keeps sending out continuously every 3 seconds ARP messages like the following: xx:xx:99:77:ff:69 ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff ARP 60 Who has 192.168.10.2? Tell 192.168.10.3 In the above message: xx:xx:99:77:ff:69 my Linux MAC address 192.168.10.2 my Tablet address 192.168.10.3 my Linux IP address Can you help me figure out the problem? Or tell me the way to detect the problem and reset the network back to normal (maybe restart Linux but I want to detect problem and restart automatically) UPDATE: 1. The above network works normally if tablet sends messages to my LINUX in normal speed (but also down after 48 hours) 2. The router works again after I unplugged my Linux ethernet cable (RJ45) from router. 3. The wireless network still works ( I can browser the router page from tablet) 4. When I use: ifconfig down then ifconfig up , the Linux restarts (?????????)

  Whether it is a laptop or a desktop, any computer is made up of several pieces of hardware that communicate with each other. Sending data back and forth to ensure that the user gets the desired results. I have seen some theoretical stuff on computers & hardware, but I wonder how it all comes together. CPU RAM Graphics Card L1 CACHE L2 CACHE L3 CACHE FSB ... And all other things. Which is the biggest bottle neck? Why would a person not want/need a big value in one of those categories in certain situations? P.S.: when reading the specs of the i5 750 processor, I came across this description: In place of the FSB, one or more high speed, point-to-point buses called Quick Path Interconnect (QPI) are used, formerly known as Common Serial Interconnect Bus or CSI. QPI features higher bandwidth than the traditional FSB and is better suited to system scaling. What is this, and how does it compare to FSB? EDIT: I am not planning to buy a computer at all. The goal of this question is to understand the internal relation of various hardware pieces, their specific functions and how they work together. For instance, I have heard to a somewhat higher-than-usual amount of L2/L3 Cache can help speed up your computer. What's up with saying that? Also I forgot to mention Hard-disk RPM.

• CNAME rule being ignored

  On a server with Plesk installed I have added a CNAME rule pointing from one of the sites subdomains to an external website. I have checked the named configuration for that domain name and it shows the CNAME however the sub domain just points to the default server page and ignores the CNAME rule. Named has been restarted and I've also run the rvmng reconfigure-vhost command. I edited another server to test this, on cPanel, and it works fine. The conf file for the domain: ; *** Ts file is automatically generated by Plesk *** $TTL 86400 @ IN SOA ns.example.com. cf.example1.com. IN CNAME example.com. login.example.com. IN CNAME socialize.gigya.com. example.com. IN MX 10 webmail.example.com. You can see the CNAME rule in the file but it just gets ignored? • Ubuntu lucid, maverick high iowait

  I'm using Ubuntu, and I've got the same problem with Lucid and Maverick. From time to time, especially a few minutes after boot, the iowait goes between 50-100% and the box is unusable. Everything that tries to access the disk freezes. I have the following setup: Hard disk: Model Family: Western Digital Caviar Green family Device Model: WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 Serial Number: WD-WMAVU0391287 Firmware Version: 01.00A01 User Capacity: 1.500.301.910.016 bytes I have a quad core Intel Core2 Q6600 processor, and 4G of memory. When the high iowait occurs, usually 4 processes are active: kdmflush (two procs) jbd2/dm-0-8 jbd2/db-1-8 and a few more starving user processes of course. I know this from top and iotop. Any suggestions about why this is happening? There are a lot of q/a-s about linux and high iowait, but none of them helped so far, I even tweaked the hard disk not to park the head in every 8 seconds (Load cycle count is 50334!!!!! :o ), but nothing. Problem persists. Thank you in advance.

• Auto detect internal/external development environment

  We use the following function to auto detect if we are on a machine internally or on a live server and then choose the appropriate configs for various components. function devIsLocal(){ $res=false; $http_host=$_SERVER['HTTP_HOST']; if($http_host=='localhost')$res=true; if($http_host=='127.0.0.1')$res=true; if(substr($http_host,-4)=='.lan')$res=true; if(strpos($http_host, '.')===false)$res=true; return($res); } As you can see it only relies on the HTTP_HOST value. Of course, if you have use virtual host locally like example.com then the function will be tricked. Are there any other ways to fool the function? and what other variables/places could we peek at to determine where we are?
