  I want to forward my root domain(yourdomain.com) to www.yourdomain.com Should I delete the A record of the root domain and then setup 301 permanent forwarding to www.yourdomain.com? I am hosting my app on heroku. So I don't really have an IP address to setup an A record. The thing is I first deleted the A record of my root domain and then forwarded it. I pinged it and here is the result - ping yourdomain.com ping: cannot resolve yourdomain.com: Unknown host Update and some more information - I am hosting a static website. And managing the DNS on cloudflare.com I added an A record for yourdomain.com - 184.168.221.51 Just an random IP.

• Windows 7 with two network cards doesn't route traffic

  I have simple task to do: I have wni7 with two nics.I want to connect another comp(osx) to win7 through second nic to connect it to internet. I already changed the registry. Win7 interface with 192.168.2.1 has no gateway set (no point to do that) OSX interface with 192.168.2.2 has gateway set to 192.168.2.1 I do not add any routes on win7, every thing seems to be already there network on second nic is detected as "undefined network" (probably effect of no gateway) i can achieve any connectivity to internet from OSX only by enabling network connection sharing on nic with 192.168.2.1, but it enables NAT and I'm interested only in pure routing without nat(it's a setup for some research). firewall is off. It seems to me that win7 refuses to forward packets for some reason. Perhaps "undefined network" and NLA service is to blame, although i couldn't find any info about that. • How do I get a Dell Latitude e6420 working?

  I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 (64-bit) on a brand new Dell Latitude e6420, and I'm having a few problems. This laptop has an Optimus (?) setup - i.e. integrated gfx and an Nvidia Quadro NVS 4200M. First problem - I ran setup, etc, and discovered that I can only run unity2d - If I try and login with unity3d, it just defaults to 2d. This is with nvidia-current installed (302.07). Note also that I can't run nvidia-settings ("You do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver."), and there is no additional drivers found ("No proprietary drivers are in use on this system"). I tried to troubleshoot this, and removed nvidia, leaving (I guess) just Nouveau drivers - In that case, unity3d did work, but I was stuck with the open source Nouveau drivers powering the integrated graphics. So, obviously, I want to run unity3d, and be using the more powerful Nvidia graphics card. I've tried a bit of tinkering around, but I'm not sure the best way to proceed, or perhaps more importantly, I'm not sure of what the best final solution might be. I've heard about bumblebee - but frankly, I would prefer to have the proprietary Nvidia drivers working properly. Any help would be much appreciated!

• windows cache not working as it should?

  I run windows 2012 server with data center. The setup is with 60GB of RAM. I have one file shared on VHD and when I copy this file locally the RAM cache is all used up but when multiple computers connect to the share it the cache is not used. The network is 8Gb. The whole network is around 200 computers that need to read that one file but on this setup only 10 connection kills the server. Is there any way to check what is going on? What other solution can I use to manage cache in windows?

• Load balancers, multiple data centers and url based routing

  There is one data center - dc1. There is a business need to setup another data center - dc2 in another geography and there might be more in the future say dc3. Within the data center dc1: There are two web servers say WS1 and WS2. These two webservers do not share anything currently. There isnt any necessity foreseen to have more webservers within each dc. dc1 also has a local load balancer which has been setup with session stickiness. So if a user say u1 lands on dc1 and if the load balancer decides to route his first request to WS1 then from there on all u1's requests will get routed to WS1. Local load balancer and webservers are invisible to the user. Local load balancer listens to the traffic on a virtual ip which is assigned to the virtual cluster of webservers ws1 and ws2. Virtual ip is the ip to which the host name is resolved to in the DNS. There are no client specific subdomains as of now instead there is a client specific url(context). ex: www.example.com/client1 and www.example.com/client2. Given above when dc2 is onboarded I want to route the traffic between dc1 and dc2 based on the client. The options that I have found so far are. Have client specific subdomains e.g. client1.example.com and client2.example.com and assign each of them with the virtual ip of the data center to which I want to route them. or Assign www.example.com and www1.example.com to first dc i.e. dc1 and assign www2.example.com to dc2. All requests will first get routed to dc1 where WS1 and WS2 will redirect the user to www1.example.com or www2.example.com based on whether the url ends with /client1 or /client2. I need help in the following If I setup a global load balancer between dc1 and dc2 do I have any alternative solutions. That is, can a global load balancer route the traffic based on the url ? Are there drawbacks to subdomain based solutions compared to www1 solution? With www1 solution I am worried that it creates a dependency on dc1 atleast for the first request and the user will see that he is getting redirected to a different url.

  Apologies my networking skills are a tad rusty. I'm looking for a way to setup a system that gives me the ability to setup Role-based access to specific network resources. For example, i have three private subnets for specific groups, users will need access to one one or more subnets. I'd like to have all client machines on the same subnet/vlan, and then use 802.1x to authorize into a router(NAC device/whatever), the router would then see what user had authenticated(huge plus if it could determine AD group), and then allow routing to one or more of the three private subnets based upon their group membership. I've looked at packetFence, and it appears to work by assigning a client to a VLAN, but i'd still need a way to route some users into different back-end networks.

• Change Apache DocumentDirectory path in trueCrypt partition

  Hello, I'm recently moving from windows to linux, so I've setup my machine to dual boot Windows7 and Ubuntu 10.04. I was able to successfully setup Apache on the Ubuntu partition, but I need to move the DocumentRoot since my websites are on a TrueCrypt partition that is in another hard drive so I can have them accessible in both OS. I followed some guides on how to change the path for the DocumentRoot so I end up modifiying the default file at /etc/apache2/sites-available DocumentRoot /media/truecrypt1/www <Directory /> Options FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None </Directory> <Directory /media/truecrypt1/www/> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks MultiViews AllowOverride None Order allow,deny allow from all </Directory> Those are the lines that I've changed, but now when I go to localhost I always get the Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server.   I have just setup Ubuntu 10.04 Server Edition. I have been following this tutorial. The DNS information seems to be setup correctly now, but I am confused about the hostname. Currently it is laughingbuddha.home. That is a name I created. Now, I am mainly not sure how to connect from another computer on my network. I basically want to be able to put PHP files on the server box and then test them via a web browser on my other computer. So, I think I digressed from my first question, but would somebody please help me figure out if the hostname is okay for doing what I need to do? Thank-you!

• VPN Connection Causes Internal LAN Connection Loss with Server

  I've tried configuring basic PPTP VPN at my small business using a number of different tutorials. As far as I can tell, the actual VPN connection worked fine, but upon connecting a client, the Server 'disappears' from the internal LAN. The RRAS service must be stopped before the connection is restored. My Setup: The network is simply a DSL Gateway/Router to the outside functioning as NAT/Firewall/DHCP. The server is a Win Server 2008 machine at fixed IP 192.168.1.200. The server has 1 NIC, so I used the 'custom' option when configuring RRAS. The RRAS settings should be default except that I've disabled ports for connection types I'm not using and reduced PPTP ports to 10. I've also created an address pool and disabled DHCP packet forwarding. The server only functions as a File Share and now a VPN Server. Local LAN computers all have mapped network shares to the server authenticated based on Local User/Group setup on the server. The Problem: The moment a client connects through VPN, the server 'disappears' from the local network. All mapped drives disconnect and there is no response to a ping 192.168.1.200. Even if the client disconnects, the server does not re-appear at that address until the RRAS service is stopped. I've Tried: Using an Address Pool inside and outside the local subnet. Using DCHP Relay Checking Inbound/Outbound filters (none enabled) The fact that nothing I've tried has had any effect, and that I can connect and successfully obtain an IP tells me that it's something more fundamental I'm missing. My gut tells me that it's something to do with the second IP address added by the VPN client somehow taking over the interface or traffic from the local LAN accidently getting routed to the VPN client instead of handled at the server once RRAS has become 'active' when a client connects. Hopefully this may be obvious to someone with real IT experience. I've been doing this a while and almost never been stumped. I'm starting to think it might actually be something tricky since my setup is pretty basic yet refuses to work. I'll be happy to include more info if this doesn't ring any bells right away for anyone. Thanks

• Proxying/Tunneling IPSec traffic via netcat or SOCKS?

  I have a client that is using a SonicWall router as their VPN concentrator. I downloaded the client software and set up the router as a peer. My issue is that my company uses a dual DMZ setup, meaning we have an interior firewall, then a bunch of DMZ servers, then an external firewall, then finally the telco router. In this setup, the interior firewall has no way to communicate with the exterior firewall since they are on two totally separate subnets. The communication occurs through the servers that straddle the networks. In this case, I need some way to forward the ISAKMP/IPSec traffic from my desktop out to the Internet. My usual trick of using netcat on the intermediate proxy server doesn't work here since it's not TCP/UDP traffic as far as I can tell. All of my previous experience with VPN's have been using SSL-based VPN's which are clearly very easily proxy-able. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

  Till now, I've been the sole and proud owner of an iMac. I've always logged in as an administrator and I've also installed a bunch of software following the standard procedure of dragging and dropping it into the Applications folder. This is about to change, as sharing it with a friend makes a lot of sense now that I only have time to use the computer in the mornings, and she can only use it at nights. I thought this was going to be really easy: Just create a user account for her and that's all, I thought. Unfortunately, this is not the case. When she logins into the computer using her username and password, she has access to the same applications I've installed. Even the same applications that I setup to automatically start when I login start for her when she does. How can I setup a user that has only access to the applications that she has installed, but none of the ones installed by other users? Many thanks

• Expendable, Redundant, Easily recoverable

  I am desperate at this point, I have been looking for "Big storage" solution for a while on my own and I can't find anything that would suite my needs. But now push came to shove. Current situation: I have about 6TB data storage (already full) - Drobo. Yesterday Drobo died on me and it put me into bad situation - I can't recover my data without buying another Drobo. From extensive research online I realized that Drobo is not the safest bet and by now it seems very poor choice. I ordered new Drobo to try to get my data back, however I don't want to be in the same situation later and continuing using Drobo promises this event to re-occur. What I am looking for: 1) Inexpensive setup. 2) Dynamically extendable - add more drives and/or replace a drive with bigger capacity. 3) Redundant - setup against 1-3 drive failure, will depend on total number of drives. For the sake of argument let's assume for every 4 drives one should be able to fail without data loss. 4) Easy data recovery - let's say unforeseen happens, I would like to be able to recover information without buying new tools or replacements - example: new Drobo. 5) Should be USB or Network Attach Storage 6) No demand on speed. Doesn't have to be fast, I am not doing video editing on the setup. However if option exists, would be nice to have a decent speed. After thoughts: I reviewed few options and FreeNAS looks nice, but it doesn't have #2 - Dynamic extendability. There are work around with Pools but it seems a bit complicated and unnecessary. More over it seems like data safety is a big question - saw some horror stories. Please advise on what options I have and what seems like an optimal solution (if any). I don't care if it has to be Windows or Linux box or any other OS and/or software that has to run on top, but simple solution is more attractive. Thank you! • HP Virtual Connect and VLAN Tagging

  We have a c7000 chasis with the ability to have 8 uplinks per ESX host. Only 6 are currenlty active. I have a Virtual Switch with multiple vlan port groups and all the VMs are working fine. Recently we've been asked to setup network load balancing for one of our VMs, so we had our Virtual Connect engineer activate the last two uplinks. We then created a new vSwitch and added the two new uplinks to this vSwitch. We then moved the VM to this new vSwitch, but we get no connectivity. What could be the issue? We also added the appropriate VLAN ID. The VConnect engineer says everything is configured correctly and networking TEAM says the appropriate trunking is setup, so we are at a loss...

Currently it returns a 404 on images not found in the /images directory, and the 404.jpg is displayed for files not found on all the other directories. • Win7 XP mode install fails with cryptic error

  Trying to install XPmode on Win7 Professional 64-bit SP1, but getting an error. I downloaded XPMode, Virtual PC and the update as specified here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx. When I open XP mode for the first time it goes into the setup ("Setting up Windows XP Mode for first use..."; pick your VM password, etc.), then it runs through the progress bar until almost the end (99%?). At that point I get the error: Could not complete Setup. Please try again. Whats going on here? I've uninstalled Virtual PC and xpmode, and reinstalled in several different orders, no luck. Is there some log file that will tell me whats happening? Theres nothing showing up in the Event log that I can find. How can I fix this?

• Moving to New Machine... also upgrade to 64bit. What steps?

  I am about to move to a new Lenovo X201 from current X61. Current setup has separate \home, separate swap file, also separate \Data partition. Am currently running 10.04 32 bit. Am considering running 64 bit on new machine because I will now have 8 GB of RAM. And would like to also move to 10.10. Ideally I would like preserve as much of my current setup as possible... New machine has Win7 on it, but will blow that away, as I've made a clonezilla copy of it, and will use VirtualBox for when I need Windows. Can someone suggest a good step by step for me? I'm networked to a NAS and also have plenty of external USB storage in case I need intermediary steps. So do I set up new machine first with 64bit 10.10, with partition scheme I want? then rsnyc over \home from old machine (over write target home)? Do I need to upgrade the X61 first to 10.10?

• Why are the external IP of my router not the same as the external IP of my computer

  I have a standard network setup where all my network devices, both WIFI and ethernet, are connected to the same router. Lately, however, I've been experiencing some very strange behavior. It started as a simple connecting error, when I tried to reach an FTP server using the external IP. Of course I went right into one of those CheckMyIP sites, to double check the IP and it turned out to be correct. Then I went into my router setup, which is through a tool called aiport-tool, because I have an Apple Aiport Extreme router. Turns out the router displays a different external IP, and for some reason that external IP works when I try to access the FTP server. Can anyone explain what is going on? Why are the devices connected to the router displaying an incorrect external IP? BTW i have no VPN/proxy setups on any of my devices.

I want to cluster the Tomcats using Shared Session to minimize downtime and user interruption while deploying apps. I know clustering works within the same server but is it possible to setup Tomcat in a way that it shares sessions between servers on different machines? = Server 1 == Apache 1 === Tomcat 1 = Server 2 == Apache 2 === Tomcat 2 When Server/Tomcat 1 would be taken down, users and their sessions would transfer over to Server/Tomcat 2 and vice versa.

• Mount linux partition as Windows network share over internet

  I have a Linux server running RHEL 6. I have two Windows servers. All servers are connected directly to the web with an external IP, they are not in a local lan. What I would like to achieve is to setup the Linux server so that it offers a single share (the whole partition) that can be mounted as network drive within Windows. I don't want to use any 3rd party software to access the linux server because I want to use the linux server as a backup for Bare Metal Restore. In order to do so, I need to be able to access the linux partition from within the Windows Recovery Enviroment where I cannot install any 3rd party software. The linux server should only be accessible from given IP addresses (e.g. the 2 windows servers). Does anyone know if the setup I would like to have is possible?

  Installing MS Intellipoint 8.2 (for my MS touch mouse) on my Dell Inspiron 580 always gives the following error: "Setup must close because an error occurred. Verify that your computer meets the system requirements on the product packaging. Restart your computer and try running Setup again. If this error happens again, see Help for customer support options. (Error Code 1603)" I'm running Windows 7 x64 with all latest updates. MS solutions don't work. How to fix?

• Dialogs appear on wrong monitor with SQL Server Management Studio 2008

  I am running SSMS 2008 on Windows 7 with a dual monitor setup (one large, one small). SSMS is running on the secondary monitor, but everytime a dialog is opened, the dialog is placed on the primary monitor instead. I've tried moving the dialog over, closing it, and then re-opening it, but it doesn't remember and goes back to the primary monitor. This is really annoying for some of the designer dialogs, is there any way to fix this other than switching SSMS to the primary monitor? Is this a known bug with SSMS, or is it a problem with my particular setup?

I can't find on the net much information about the relative "compatibility" of SQL2000 on WinSrv2008. Of course I found some obscure answers like : "it's impossible, it's not supported, don't do it".
