  • NAT cause huge External (actually internal) bandwidth usage

    We have 4 servers running in a data center, with internal IP: 192.168.3.* assigned. A hardware (FORTIGATE) firewall configured NAT, and it will lead the traffic as: external IP: 111.222.333.10 -> 192.168.3.10 www.server1.com 111.222.333.11 -> 192.168.3.11 www.server2.com 111.222.333.12 -> 192.168.3.12 www.server3.com In DNS, we have www.server1.com A 111.222.333.10 Now if I send a lot of data to www.server1.com from www.server2.com, the data will be send through 111.222.333.10 (external IP) and this cause our bandwidth usage huge (expensive!). The work around I have is to add a local host mapping to server2: 192.168.3.10 www.server1.com. That way when send files from server2 to www.server1.com, it will be internal. However, we are having more and more servers, it would be hard to manually add mapping to every server. Just wondering do we have another solution for this? Can we do something in the FORTIGATE firewall? ps. The DNS server being used is public, such as opendns, Google dns etc.

  • VirtualHost not using correct SSL certificate file

    I got a doozy of a setup with my virtual hosts and SSL. I found the problem, I need a solution. The problem is, the way I have my virtual hosts and server names setup, the LAST VirtualHost directive is associating the SSL certificate file with the ServerName regardless of IP address or ServerAlias. In this case, SSL on www.site1.com is using the cert file that is established on the last VirtualHost; www.site2.com. Is this how it is supposed to work? This seems to be happening because both of them are using the same ServerName; but I wouldn't think this would be a problem. I am specifically using the same ServerName for a purpose and I really can't change that. So I need a good fix for this. Yes, I could buy another UCC SSL and have them both on it but I have already done that; these are actually UCC SSLs already.   • How do you monitor SSD wear in Windows when the drives are presented as 'generic' devices?

    Under Linux, we can monitor SSD wear fairly easily with smartmontools whether the drive is presented as a normal block device or a generic device (which happens when the drive has been hardware RAIDed by certain controllers such as the one on the IBM HS22). How can we do the equivalent under Windows? Does anyone actually use smartmontools? Or are there other packages out there? The problem is that SCSI Generic devices just don't show up in Windows. If the drives aren't RAIDed we can see them fine.   • WD my cloud 4th is Super Slow

    I am using a WD my cloud 4Tb and I have read other posts about users complaining about getting only 10Mb per second. My problem is that I am getting about 100kb/s to transfer a 125gb iPhoto library. Estimated time is 11 days to transfer this file. This is unacceptable. On the back of the WD cloud I am getting a solid green light and from what I read this means that I am on a gigabyte network. I have mac book pro running Mac OS Mavericks. I have tried 4 different cables and turned off my router firewall. I don't run anti-virus nor any firewall on the mac. Other things I have checked: direct connection to both router and WD cloud device. Tried wireless but it is even slower. Previously I was able to transfer a 55Gb iPhoto library in 14 hours which I felt was acceptable. I figured it would take approximately double the time to transfer the 125gb file but 11 days is ridiculous. Any other suggestions? Anything else I can check (how to check it) what is the bottle neck?

  • When gaming computer freezes with a blank screen and a buzzing sound

    I have a problem with random freezes when playing games. Sometimes it's fine for hours, other times it dosn't last even one. I tried googling around and I found recomendations to update my graphics drivers and to test for overheating. The graphics drivers haven't helped worked and Furmark created a consistant heat higher than I get during a crash. I even tried running a game using the Linux dual boot and WINE, that crashed too. Here are the tempreture logs leading up to the latest crash. The GPU dosn't hit 80, and I've hit 90 with no crash on firmark. What doesn't work is the Mac. I am running the very latest Synergy (1.4.2, downloaded last night). As far as the Mac is concerned everything should be working fine: Synergy 1.4.2 Client on Darwin 8.11.0 Darwin Kernel Version 8.11.0: Wed Oct 10 18:26:00 PDT 2007; root:xnu-792.24.17~1/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh Unable to connect to pasteboard. Clipboard sharing disabled. 2011-03-22 09:32:56.725 synergyc[406] Can't register screen saver connection 'com.apple.ScreenSaverDaemon' started client connecting to '192.168.0.202': 192.168.0.202:24800 connected to server entering screen leaving screen entering screen leaving screen But it's just not interacting with the display at all (mouse doesn't move, keyboard does nothing). I have tried running ktrace on synergyc and examining the dump, and the only clue I found was that it was trying to interact with the AccessibilityAPI which was disabled at first. Enabling Accessibility has had no effect whatsoever (it has only stopped the failure to open /var/db/.AccessibilityAPIEnabled in the ktrace dump) Anyone managed to get this to work in OS/X Tiger yet? I used to run the server on OS/X and have the windows / unix machines as clients, but as my Windows is now a laptop I'd like that to be the server.

I had a strange directory listing show up the other day in my git repository within Drupal.   • TFS 2012: Backup Plan Fails with empty log file

    I have a Team Foundation Server 2012 installation with Power Tools, and I defined a backup plan using the wizard found in the "Database Backup Tools" in the Team Foundation Server Administration Console. I set the backup plan to do a full database backup on Sunday mornings, to another server in the network. I followed the wizard with no problems and the Backup Plan was set successfully.     I have a directory called data. Then I am running a script under the user id 'robot'. robot writes to the data directory and update files inside. The idea is data is open for both me and robot to update. So I setup the permission and owner group like this drwxrwxr-x 2 me robot-grp 4096 Jun 11 20:50 data where both me and robot belongs to the 'robot-grp'. I change the permission and the owner group recursively like the parent directory. I regularly upload new files into the data directory using rsync. Unfortunately, new files uploaded does not inherit the parent directory's permission as I hope. Instead it looks like this -rw-r--r-- 1 me users 6 Jun 11 20:50 new-file.txt When robot tries to update new-file.txt, it fails due to lack of file permission. I'm not sure if setting umask helps. In anycase the new files does not really follow it. $ umask -S u=rwx,g=rx,o=rx I'm often confounded by Unix file permission. Do I even have a right plan? I'm using Debian lenny.

  • Loop through several servers, find specific dlls , get the dll version, internal filename and path?

    I am a newby to Powershell, and using PS v2. I can see the massive potential it has, but I just can't get the following code to work fully. I am trying to end up with a csv file that contains the wild carded required dlls in the GAC_MSIL or sub-directory, get the dll version, internal filename and path, and the server IP address. The code is below, and it is in single line format because it appears easier to remote onto one of the servers in the server farm and run the single line from that console, ue to security log-ins etc. The code has produced a set of results, but only for the last server, it probably does the first server, then overwrites it but I am not sure about that. I have done a lot of reading about using arrays, and custom objects, and had a go at doing that, but my scripting skills in PS are not yet up to it.     I wish to setup a local mail server for debugging purposes using fedora 15 I set up sendmail, but there is a problem. When I'm not connected to the internet, the local mail server delivers correctly (to localhost).     If I read the docs on Windows Service Pack support policies, and the specific Internet Explorer lifecycle support page as well as the Wikipedia page I've deduced that: IE6 support ends/ended at: Windows 2000 Ended (date unknown) Windows XP SP0 (RTM) Ended Home: 30-Aug-2003 Pro: 30-Sep-2004 SP1 Ended Home: 11-Jul-2004 Pro: 11-Jul-2004 SP2 Home: 13-Jul-2010 Pro: 13-Jul-2010 SP3 (released: April 21, 2008) Home: ??? Pro: ??? What isn't clear is the Windows XP SP3 scenario. In "human" terms, when is the end of support for IE6 on Windows XP SP3? e.g. if there is never a Windows XP SP4... or heaven forbid, an SP4 is released. I realize this doesn't force people to upgrade etc. however I'm trying to get a "semi" official word on when IE6 moves into the "not supported" category. I'm not interested in philosophical answers e.g. "big enterprise won't upgrade but they will expect support into 2017" stuff... I just want the "clear answer" in terms of official Microsoft support.

  • Ping server NETBIOS name returns wrong IP and "Destination host unreachable"

    Problem server is Windows 2008 R2 VM running on VMWare ESXi 4 host. Single network adapter manually assigned single IP address (192.168.1.11). When I ping the server from any other network computer, it returns 192.168.1.124 and "Destination host unreachable". Yesterday I found a second network adapter assigned to this server with an IP of 169.254... indicating it had no real valid IP. Using the MAC addresses I determined which adapter was not needed/not wanted, and removed it using VMWare systems. This is the network Printer Server and, understandably, nothing is printing right now. I've looked at the solutions here Why was my ping answered by a different IP address than the one pinged? and they aren't applicable to my situation for the following reasons: Output of arp -a on another computer returns the correct IP address (.1.11) assigned to the correct MAC address, the incorrect IP .1.124 is not listed, and the MAC of the network adapter I removed yesterday is not listed at all. I checked out the Microsoft KB article which listed pretty much my exact symptoms ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/981953 ) and it says to check binding orders and look for hidden adapters. But there are no hidden adapters, and there is only one Network Adapter listed in the Binding Order list. Essentially, I can communicate from the server TO any other network device, but I cannot communicate from any other network device TO the server. Help!   • OC'ing a Sapphire 7950, problems with memory clock

    I bought a new rig with sapphire radeon 7950 flex w/ boost. Good scores initially in 3dmark 11, around 7300 stock. Problem is, as soon as i start overclocking, issues arise. the core clock is at 860, but rises to 925 with boost applied in pressured situations. So all the OC tools are showing 925 as base clock for some reason. Ocing the core clock has been no problem though, got up to 1200 pretty stable, but only an incremental increase in 3dmark 11, to 7600 from 7300, which is worrying. The real trouble starts when i start touching the memory clock. As soon as i touch it even by 1 point up to 1251mhz, the performance goes way down. suddenly i score under 5000 graphics in 3dmark11, no matter if its 1251hz or 1500hz. Ive tried adjusting every other parameter, different tools (sapphiretrixx, catalyst, afterburner) all still the same. Tried upping the power, still same. Where is the issue here?

  • WAMP server won't run with PHP 5.3.4 but will with PHP 5.2.11

    I have a 64bit Windows 7 Professional machine. I'm running WampServer Version 2.1 with Apache 2.2.4. It was installed on a clean machine. I'm using the default ini/conf files as they come. Wamp is installed in C:\wamp\, with php5.2 at C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.2.11 and php5.3 at C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.3.4. Both folders have the same permissions. When I run WAMP with 5.2.11 picked, it starts fine. When I run it with 5.3.4 picked, there are no errors in the Apache or PHP error logs, but I get The Apache service named reported the following error: httpd.exe: Syntax error on line 115 of C:/wamp/bin/apache/apache2.2.4/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load C:/wamp/bin/php/php5.3.4/php5apache2_2.dll into server: The Apache service named is not a valid Win32 application. in my system application error logs. 5.2.11 calls C:/wamp/bin/php/php5.2.11/php5apache2_2.dll and that doesn't throw an error. What am I doing wrong?
