• Need help: jBPM installation issue

  This is Ms Kahina, I’m getting started with jBPM & Java EE, I tried to install the jBPM 5.4 version by following all the steps stated in the iBPM user guide as below: 1- I’ve installed Java (JDK 1.7) and ant ( Apache-ant-1.9.4). 2- I’ve set both JAVA_HOME and ANT_HOME environement variables. 3- I’ve downloaded the jBPM 5.4 full installer and run the installation script “ant install.demo” and after that the start script “ant start.demo”. But unfortunately jBPM 5.4 is not working. When running the installation Script I’m getting successful message but with the following warnings : [copy] Warning: Could not find file C:\jbpm-installer\db\task-persistence.xml to copy. [copy] Warning: Could not find file C:\jbpm-installer\db\Taskorm.xml to copy. The start demo was successful. Actually when I try to open any tool provided with the jBPM such us the jBPM-console for example I’m getting the following messages: Address not found or sometimes the http status 404 occurred even if the Welcome page of jBoss AS was opened at http://localhost:8080/. Please need your assistance to sort out this issue in order to move forward in my project as I'm blocked in the installation stage since more than a week now, I don’t know if this is related to the jBoss AS7 or to any other thing that I didn’t find out.   Ops Center has two database options - you can have Ops Center automatically install a database on the Enterprise Controller system, or you can use your own database on any system you choose. If you use your own database, it's obviously important to make sure that this database is running smoothly. You have a few tools that can help you do this. The first is the ecadm command. This command has a variety of subcommands that let you view and control the status of the Enterprise Controller. Two subcommands in particular are relevant to the database: ecadm verify-db: This subcommand verifies that the database is reachable and that the schemas are configured with the proper permissions. Use the -v option if you want more details; the command is normally terse if the DB is configured correctly. ecadm sqlplus -r: This subcommand opens an sqlplus console connection to the database. The -r option makes this console read-only, which isn't necessary, but is generally a good idea. You can also view the database contents using Oracle SQL Developer or other tools. • Is this the correct approach to an OOP design structure in php?

  I'm converting a procedural based site to an OOP design to allow more easily manageable code in the future and so far have created the following structure: /classes /templates index.php With these classes: ConnectDB Games System User User -Moderator User -Administrator In the index.php file I have code that detects if any $_GET values are posted to determine on which page content to build (it's early so there's only one example and no default): function __autoload($className) { require "classes/".strtolower($className).".class.php"; } $db = new Connect; $db->connect(); $user = new User(); if(isset($_GET['gameId'])) { System::buildGame($gameId); } This then runs the BuildGame function in the system class which looks like the following and then uses gets in the Game Class to return values, such as $game->getTitle() in the template file template/play.php: function buildGame($gameId){ $game = new Game($gameId); $game->setRatio(900, 600); require 'templates/play.php'; } I also have .htaccess so that actual game page url works instead of passing the parameters to index.php Are there any major errors of how I'm setting this up or do I have the general idea of OOP correct?

• Is it okay to use a language that isn't supported by your company for some tasks?

  I work for a company that supports several languages: COBOL, VB6, C# and Java. I use those languages for my primary work, but I often find myself to coding some minor programs (e.g. scripts) in Python because I found it to be the best tool for that type of task. For example: An analyst gives me a complex CSV file to populate some DB tables, so I would use Python to parse it and create a DB script. What's the problem? The main problem I see is that a few parts of these quick & dirty scripts are slowly gaining importance and: My company does not support Python They're not version controlled (I back them up in another way) My coworkers do not know Python The analysts have even started referencing them in email ("launch the script that exports..."), so they are needed more often than I initially thought. I should add that these scripts are just utilities that are not part of the main project; they simply help to get trivial tasks done in less time. For my own small tasks they help a lot. In short, if I were a lottery winner to be in a accident, my coworkers would need to keep the project alive without those scripts; they would spend more time in fixing CSV errors by hand for example. Is this a common scenario? Am I doing something wrong? What should I do?

• Storing revisions of a document

  This is a follow up question to my original question. I'm thinking of going with generating diffs and storing those diffs in the database 'History' table. I'm using diff-match-patch library to generate what is called a 'patch'. On every save, I compare previous and new version and generate this patch. The patch could be used to generate a document at specific point in time. My dilemma is how to store this data. Should I: a Insert a new database record for every patch? b. Store these patches in javascript array and store that array in history table. So there is only one db History record for document with an array of all the patches. Concerns with: a. Too many db records generated. Will be slow and CPU intensive to query. b. Only one record. If record is somehow corrupted/deleted. Entire revision history is gone. I'm looking for suggestions, concerns with either approach.

• Simplifying data search using .NET

  An example on the asp.net site has an example of using Linq to create a search feature on a Music album site using MVC. In practice this pattern doesn't seem to scale well because as the search criteria expands I keep adding more and more conditions which looks and feels unpleasant/repetitive. How can I refactor this pattern? One idea I have is to create a column in every table that is "searchable" which could be a computed column that concatenates all the data from the different columns (SQL Server 2008). So instead of having movie genre and title it would be something like. if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(searchString)) { movies = movies.Where(s => s.SearchColumn.Contains(searchString)); } What are the performance/design/architecture implications of doing this? I have also tried using procedures that use dynamic queries but then I have just moved the ugliness to the database. E.g. • An algorithm for finding subset matching criteria?

  I recently came up with a problem which I would like to share some thoughts about with someone on this forum. This relates to finding a subset. In reality it is more complicated, but I tried to present it here using some simpler concepts. To make things easier, I created this conceptual DB model: Let's assume this is a DB for storing recipes. Recipe can have many instructions steps and many ingredients. Ingredients are stored in a cupboard and we know how much of each ingredient we have. Now, when we create a recipe, we have to define how much of each ingredient we need. When we want to use a recipe, we would just check if required amount is less than available amount for each product and then decide if we can cook a dinner - if amount required for at least one ingredient is less than available amount - recipe cannot be cooked. Simple sql query to get the result. This is straightforward, but I'm wondering, how should I work when the problem is stated the other way round, i.e. how to find recipies which can be cooked only from ingredients that are available? I hope my explanation is clear, but if you need any more clarification, please ask.

• How and what should I be (unit) testing for in this method?

  I am relatively new to unit testing and have a query about what/how I should be testing a certain method. For the following (psudo-c#) method I have created (not a real-life example) what would you test for? Initially, my thoughts would be to test the output with variations on the dictionary of form fields, e.g. valid, invalid, missing values. However I also wonder how you would test to make sure the object values have been changed to the correct value and that the correct email message was attempted to be sent (obviously both services could/would be mocked).   I want to start new project customCms, cause I think it's a good starting point to implement my collected knowledge from c#, ddd, nhibernate, mvc3, js. It will be great if I hear some guidlines from expirienced users here. I will use C# ASP.NET MVC3 razor view engine. Also I was thinking of NHibernate ORM, I dont know if using Nhibernate will cause performanse down. Initially MSSQL 2008 will be used, but using ORM layer cause that I can switch to some other db with no pain. I was thinking to create News entity which will have properties Id Name Created Updated IntroText Content Title Author ListPhotos Every input will be validated with untroub. java script on the view, and it will be validated on db level as well. Maybe it is best approach to create some interface which will be implemented by my cmsClient entity like NewsEntity. In this interface will be included everything it should be requested from my client in future. At least some stuff which are not included in entity right now, consumed data by rss feed, wcf, etc. So basically everything you think its good idea from documentating project, to coding. Everyone is welcomed to brainstorm for custom cms.

  I am working on a quite complex web application in Go and I tried to stay in an MVC pattern. However, I ended up having a structure isomorphic to this: /boilerplate The usual boilerplate an application needs to survive in the wilderness /db Layer talking to an SQL DB /helpers Helpers /logic Backend logic, not directly affiliated with any routes, sessions etc. /templates View /web Glue between /logic and /templates. In more dynamic languages the size of /web would be next to zero. But Go doesn't exactly have a RoR integrated so I need a lot of helper structures to feed the templates with data, to process GET/POST parameters and session information. I remember once reading about patterns similar to MVC with one extra letter but Wiki-searching I couldn't find it right now. (BTW currently /logic also contains data retrieval from API services to fill some hash maps; this is no simple task, but that probably belongs into the model, right?) So question: is this structure considered sane? Or does it need some bending to be tagged MVC app?

• People Picker can't find Forms Authentication Users in WSS 3.0

  I used a lot of tutorials to turn my windows authenticated default wss web app to use Forms Authentication. What I've done since; 1. created a web app. and a site in wss 3.0. Made its anonymous access enabled for all site content. This wss app is in the "wss3" server. 2. created a membership db with regsql.exe in .net framework folder.Created it with its default settings, like aspnetdb named database.This db is in the "sqlserver" server. 3. gave db.owner permission to the web app. admin of wss to the aspnetdb database. Successfully logged in. With no privilages ofcourse. 9. Tried to give permission via Web Application Policy to that user which logged in. 10. People Picker couldn't find it at all. Any of the forms users couldn't be found. But it clearly tells that AD connection is also changed that none of the AD users couldn't be found either.   I have a problem. I try to display a UITable that could have 2000-20000 records (typicall numbers.) I have a SQLite database similar to the Apple contacts application. I do all the tricks I know to get a smoth scroll, but I have a problem. I load the data in 50 recods blocks. Then, when the user scroll, request next 50 until finish the list. However, load that 50 records cause a notable "pause" in loading and scrolling. Everything else works fine. I cache the data, have opaque cells, draw it by code, etc... I swap the code loading the same data in dicts and have a performance boost but wonder if I could keep my object oriented aproach and improve the actual code. • Asp.net MVC/Silverlight and Sharepoint 2010 integration

  Just a sidenote: I'm not sure whether I should post this to serverfault as well, because some MOSS admin may have some info for me as well? Additional note 1: I've found this document (Asp.net MVC 2 & Sharepoint integration) if anybody with sufficient expirience is willing to comment on its content whether this can be used in my described scenario or not. Additional note 2: I've discovered (later) that Silverlight is supported in Sharepoint 2010 so I'm considering it as well. So if anyone would comment on silverlight integration as well. A bit of explanation first (without Asp.net MVC/Silverlight) Is it possible to integrate the two? Is it possible to write an application that would share at least credential information with MOSS? I have to write a MOSS application that has to do with these technologies: MOSS 2010 Personal client certificates authentication (most probably on USB keys) Active Directory Federation Services Separate SQL DB that would serve application specific data (separate as not being part of MOSS DB) How should it work? Users should authenticate using personal certificates into MOSS 2010 There would be a certain part of MOSS that would be related to my custom application This application should only authorize certain users via AD FS - I guess these users should have a certain security claim attached to them This application should manage users (that have access to this app) with additional (app specific) security claims related to this application (as additional application level authorization rights for individual application parts) This application should use custom SQL 2008 DB heavily with its own data This application should have the possibility to integrate with external systems as well (Exchange for instance to inject calendar entries, ERP systems etc) This application should be able to export its data (from its DB) to files. I don't know if it's possible, but it would be nice if the app could add these files to MOSS and attach authorization info to them so only users with sufficient rights would be able to view/open these files. Why Asp.net MVC/Silverlight then? I'm very well versed in Asp.net MVC (also with the latest version) and I haven't done anything on Sharepoint since version 2003 (which doesn't do me no good or prepare me for the latest version in any way shape or form). This project will most probably be a death march project so I would rather write my application as a UI rich Asp.net MVC application and somehow integrate it into MOSS. But not only via a link, because I would like to at least share credentials, so users wouldn't need to re-login when accessing my app. Using Asp.net MVC I would at least have the possibility to finish on time or be less death marching. Is this at all possible? I haven't done any serious project using SIlverlight, but I will sooner or later have to. So I'm also considering a jump into it at this moment, because it still might make this application development easier than strict Sharepoint 2010. Questions Is it possible to integrate Asp.net MVC/Silverlight into MOSS as described above? If integration is not possible, would it be possible to create a completely MOSS based application that would work as described? Which parts of MOSS 2010 should I use to accomplish what I need?

• Problem with URL encoded parameters in URL view helper

  So my problem is kinda weird, it only occurs when I test the application offline (on my PC with WampServer), the same code works 100% correctly online. • Issue with multipart/form-data

  I am not able to get values from both files and text input in a servlet when my form includes multipart/form-data. I am using the apache.commons.fileuploads for help with the uploads. Any suggestions. Also in the code below there are some things that I feel should be more efficient. • Delete / Remove node from XPathNodeIterator, given an XPath

  First of all, if someone has a different, perhaps shorter (or better), solution to the problem, it's welcome as well. I'm trying to "simply" remove (almost) duplicate elements in XSLT. There's some (metadata) nodes i don't want to include when comparing, and i couldn't figure out how do do that in XSLT so thought i'd extend it with a function removing these nodes. • C# SQLite file import prevent duplicates

  Hi, I am attempting to get a directory (which is ever-growing) full of .txt comma delimited files to import into my SQLite db. I now have all of the files importing ok, however I need to have some way of excluding the files that have been previously added to db. I have a column in the db called FileName where the name and extension are stored next to each record from each file. Now I need to say 'If the code finds XXX.txt and XXX.txt is already in db, then skip this file'.
