• Providing or Filtering assemblies when registering areas for an ASP.NET MVC 2.0 application

  I have a large application that currently exists as a hybrid of WebForms and MVC 2.0. Startup of my application is dreadful, and the culprit is primarily because of the AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas call. More specifically, that it is using the System.Web. Compilation.BuildManager.GetReferencedAssemblies to enumerate all types in assemblies directly referenced by the application and test them to see if they derive from AreaRegistration. Unfortunately, I have a number of third-party assemblies that happen to be quite extensive, so this initial load can be pretty bad. I'd have much better results if I could tell it which assemblies to look for AreaRegistrations, or even register areas manually for the time being. I can gather up all the internals of AreaRegistration to create and invoke the registration, but I'm just curious if others have had and worked around this issue.

  I am using red5 + rtmp in client-server flash application. There isnt audio/video streams in my applications, rtmp used for transfering messages from app to server and back. Now i need to develop application for Iphone and need help: 1) is there any rtmp implementation on Iphone ?? 2) If not, how could i solve this problem? Is there is any alternative to rtmp on iphone? This started when I put the threading code. Could I have some rogue threads out there? what is the best way to zero in a threading problem? The issue can't be recreated on my machine...I know I must be missing something on how to dispose of a backgroundworker properly. Any thoughts are appreciated, Thanks, Jose

  I have to use a ocx in .Net application. In the toolbox, i right clicked and from com tab added the ocx. Now the ocx appeared in the toolbox and added the control to the form. Whe i execute the application got this error 'Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.WINCMP3XLib, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.'. Can you help me what else needs to be done. I also used the Aximp tool to convert the wrapper dll for the ocx. Now when I used this dll, i could not access the method in the dll. Please can anyone tell me the best way for using ocx in .Net application. Thanks

• Rogue black-box java application not responding to standard input redirect

  I have an external java application (blackbox), which requires authentication. I need to run this application in a batch setting, but it seems to be reading from standard input in some nonstandard way. That is, if I set the calling of the program to redirect STDIN to a file (... <password.txt) or pipe data to it (echo mypasword | ...), it does not recognize the input. As I run it, also, it seems to intercept Cntrl+c and Cntrl+d and Cntrl+z as legitimate password characters, so it must be doing something odd and not just reading from standard in. Any idea what this application could be doing to read in input? I need to be able to send it information programmatically, and I'm stumped for the moment.

• How to handle application upgrades from free to paid version while preserving any data

  Here is the context. I want to have a free version and a premium version of the same application. When people buy the application, I want them to be able to "upgrade" without losing their data, i.e. the premium version should install over the free version. I want to use the same code base and just switch a setting to build the premium version. Andoid Market does not let me convert a free app to a paid app, so the trivial option is not available. I am curious if someone has tried this successfully. How does Android Market identify an application - will it think that the premium version is a different app and just install it in parallel?

  Hello I have to create a simple app, that will suit as an example of using WPF and WCF for creating HMI screens. I'm not sure what WCF is supposed to do in such application, I guess there must be an OPC server that my application connects to. Does app connect to OPC server using WCF service and does the WCF service reside inside the application or outside? Is WCF service meant to be used only as a connection to OPC server? I'm not yet quite sure which process to simulate, I need something simple. Please, any ideas are welcomed. Thank you

  hello i'm having a problem, i try to solve it since yesterday but no luck. i have 32 bit delphi dll which i want to import in .NET Win Application. this application has to be built on ANY CPU mode. of course, there's BadImageFormatException coming, which means that in x64 application can't be loaded x86 dll.. i googled around and find solution, it said i have to do wrapper, but it wasn't clear for me. can anybody tell how to solve this problem, is there any possible way i can import 32bit Delphi dll in program builted Any CPU or x64 mode(maybe another solution).

• Visual studio Solution for two versions of a web application

  The issue at hand is this. We have a web application with two different versions, a full application, and a light version of it. In it's most part the light version is a subset of the full version, which means that it uses the same web pages and references the same binaries with the full version. However, some of the pages of the full version should not be deployed with the light version obviously, and some binaries (libraries etc) need not be deployed with the full version. If it were a windows forms application we could attempt to approach the issue at hand with preprocessor directives, unfortunately this is not feasible I think. (please do correct me if I'm wrong with this) Anyway, what would a good approach on this? Thanks

• Custom Application Page does not recognize tagPrefix defined in custom web.config

  I have a custom application page integrated in Centeral Administration. My application pages are placed in a subfolder in Template\Admin folder. I placed my own web.config in my subfolder and added tagPrefixes in the control section. However when I open my application page ASP.NET throws the exception that the tag SharePoint:InputFormTextBox was not recognized. What am I doing wrong? Or it doesn't work this way? What can i do to achieve this?

  Hi, I'm trying to embed my working QT application in Eclipse RCP framework(might not sound wise but i need to do this). I'm using QT 4.5 (not yet explored what QTJambi is all about and has to offer) I convert my existing application as a dll and load it through eclipse application. Things dont work as they should as the QTApplication loop sits listening for events, and there is a good mismatch of events. Certain UI objects dont get the events. If I comment my Qppliaction::exec(), then the behaviour in QT app changes. Is there a way to achieve what I'm trying to achieve?? Thanks

• Detecting your application's install path in Java?

  Hi, I have made a small application in Java and I would like to make a windows installer for it using the Nullsoft Scriptable Install System (http://nsis.sourceforge.net/Main_Page). The application I made needs to save user preferences somewhere and it currently saves it in the user's home directory (e.g. c:\Users\danny or /home/users/danny). However if the windows installer installs the application to e.g. c:\Program Files\whatever\ I should probably save the preferences file there too, right? How would I detect that directory path in Java? What would be a good cross-platform approach to this without losing the benefits of a windows uninstaller for windows users e.g. start menu icons, installer option, etc? Should I just continue saving my preferences in the user's home path and clutter it up? Thanks very much,

  I am using a WCF authentication service I set up with a web application. I have successfully set up and tested the AuthenticationService and RolesService. The web application can successfully call methods like ValidateUser and GetRolesForCurrentUser through the WCF services. I want to integrate the WCF authentication service with my web.config and site.map. Do I need to write a custom provider, or is there some way I can modify the web.config of the web application to use the WCF authentication service as its membership provider? This way I can set what roles have access to what directories based off the WCF authentication service.

  Hello, which is the best approach to include a static library with into an application for iPhone or iPad? I could choose to compile the library supplying right platform and building a library file with the ar utility and then add as a framework to the project including the source of the library .c/.h and compile them together with the application The first approach seems simpler, because I won't care about managing all specific settings of the library I want to include but how can I create the library both for iPhone and iPad and allow xcode to use the right library upon linking? The second approach seems more complex since xcode will take care about compiling my application and the library (with different settings I suppose) then how should I go? I can easily add sources of the lib but I'll have to include the make scripts to allow xcode use them to build in the right way. Any suggestions about how to proceed? The library I'm trying to include is libssh. (I know that this library, of course, has already been compiled and tried succesfully on iPhone) Thanks in advance.

  I need to optimize a java application. It makes some 3rd party calls. I need some good tool to accurately measure the time taken by individual api calls. To give an idea of complexity- the application takes a data source file containing 10 lakh rows, and it takes around one hour to complete the processing. As a part of processing , it makes some 3rd party calls (including some network calls). I need to identify which calls are taking more time then others, and based on that, find out a way to optimize the application. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

• C# Application crashes with Buffer Overrun in deployed (.exe) version, but not in Visual Studio

  Hi, I have a c# Windows Forms application that runs perfectly from within Visual Studio, but crashes when its deployed and run from the .exe. It crashes with a Buffer Overrun error...and its pretty clear that this error is not being thrown from within my code. Instead, windows must be detecting some sort of buffer overrun and shutting down the application from the outside. I don't think there's one specific line of code that is causing it..it simply happens intermittently. Does anybody have any thoughts on what the possible causes of a Buffer Overrun error might be, and why it would only occur in the deployed application and not when run from with Visual Studio?   Some installations that run our applications can be under hefty stress on a busy day. Our clients ask us is there is a way to manage priorities in our application. For example, in a typical internet banking application, banks are interested in having the form “Transfer money” responsive, while the “Statement” page is a lot less critical. Not being able to transfer money is a direct loss for the bank, while not being able to produce a statement or something similar can be fixed with an apology. AFAIK, neither can you manage different request or session timeouts in a typical web application, it is one value for the whole of your web app. Managing message priority and expiry time is a typical feature in many middleware platforms. Something like this can be useful for a web front end as well. Do any of web servers (either java or .net) or web frameworks provide these features? How would you go about implementing it if you’d have to go for roll-your-own?

  I am trying to build a standalone qt application (built on ubuntu and deployed on Red Hat 5.3, both 64 bits) after building a qt application that is statically linked to the qt library I tried to run the program on red hat and got an error saying libc.so.6 was not found and that GLIBC_2.9 or GLIBC_2.10 is not installed and needed. I tried doing a yum install glibc but then I get a message saying that glibc is up to date (its version is 2.0) I guees I am going to restart the build process but this time from a red hat installation. What do you sugges I should do in this case. My goal is to build a standalone qt application that only needs to run on red hat 5 (im pretty sure there is also going to be an issue with fontconfig.so but I can simply provide this library directly in the same directory as the app)

First databse character set ist WE8MSWIN1252, the other server decodes with WE8PC850. Setting the client NLS_LANG parameter to the correct value solves correct sql-query results. Unfortunately this (the client character-set) seems only to be recognized on applications startup (first connect to oracle). I need to change the client-characterset at runtime. Oracle client seems to store the character set an application used to connect! beside: I#m using udl-files to setup the connections (Microsoft OLE DB - driver) what can I do?

• Detecting a Key Press Squashed by Another Application

  I have a WPF application I'm planning to use as an overlay for a DirectX game (specifically Bad Company 2). I'm using WM_KEYBOARD_LL hook to detect KeyDown events so I can bring my app to the foreground when a specific button is pressed. This works perfectly except for when the game is running (I've also noticed this problem with Window's "Chess Titans" so it may be a DirectX thing). As far as I can work out, when the game detects a keyboard press, it "eats" the event and doesn't pass the CallNextHookEx() method like it should, which would allow the key press message to be moved along to the next application in the queue. I'm wondering if there's any sort of work-around to this? It seems kind of unfair that a single application can just willy-nilly eat up messages like that. • Linking to an Apache License 2.0 library and distributing with proprietary application

  Hi all, I've read through "Apache License, Version 2.0" but my interpretation was in slightly different to an answer given in a related question so was hoping for some clarification. Supposing I created an application that linked to a library that was licensed under the license in question, my interpretation for doing what's required is: I don't need to do anything special to the application itself because it's considered neither "Work" nor "Derivative Works". When distributing the library alongside the application, I need to include a copy of the license. Any installer that contains the library would be considered "Derivative Works" and therefore I would need to show the attribution notices contained in "NOTICE" (if one exists) in one of its screens. If I were to distribute everything in a zip file instead, I would need to put the same attribution notices in a text file that I distribute alongside the file. Does this sound about right? Cheers,
