  • Is this the best way to query an element and its children?

    I'm trying to query an element and its children to find ID's that begin with a particular string. var foundIDs = containerElement.find('[id^=something]').andSelf().filter('id^=something'); The find() method only searches descendants so I thought I'd try andSelf(). However, andSelf() does not take a selector. This means that the container element is included regardless of whether it matches the find query or not and I then have to perform a secondary filter() on it to remove the container element if it didn't match after all. I attempted to put andSelf() before the find() but it didn't seem to pick up the container element into the stack. containerElement.andSelf().find('[id^=something]'); Is there any better way to achieve what I'm doing?

    I need to cache about 100 different selections for animating. The following is sample code. Is there a syntax problem in the second sample? If this isn't the way to cache selections, it's certainly the most popular on the interwebs.   • jQuery is only returning first item

    For some strange reason, whenever I have a selector and expect to get multiple items, jQuery is only returning the first item, instead of the entire collection. This is the HTML I have: <a id="reply-424880" class="reply" href="#" rel="nofollow">Reply</a> <a id="reply-424885" class="reply" href="#" rel="nofollow">Reply</a> And the selector: $('.reply').unbind('click').click(function(event) { ... } I have tried debugging using FireBug, and still get the same results. Using the work around I can get it to work: $('a').each(function (index, element) { if ($(element).attr('class') == 'reply') { $(this).unbind('click').click(function(event) { ... }); } }); I would like to use the built-in functionality instead of my work around. Any idea why only the first element would be returned?

  • jquery selector for td in a table

    i want to get a event that will fire when i click inside a td of a html table i had this: ('td').live('click', function() { alert($(this).attr('id')); }); which works but this fires inside the 'th" cells as well (not sure why). is there any selector that just fires inside td's and not th's. I tried this: ('tbody td').live('click', function() { alert($(this).attr('id')); }); but that didn't seems to stop this firing for the th's.

  • Make content 100% height with scrollbar

    I am using CKEditor (http://ckeditor.com) and I've created my own custom file browser... Problem is, when you open the filebrowser, it opens it in a new popup window and has no scrollbars. I submitted a support ticket 2 weeks ago to find out how to add the scrollbars and no answer. I can't find what to edit in the code either... So what I plan to do is make it scroll using CSS... I found this post about making the body 100% (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/886809/css-quirks-html-4-01-strict-100-body-height-and-scrollbars) but it doesn't add scrollbars. Any ideas how I can force scrollbars using CSS?

    I've added an observer for my method: [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(closeViewAfterUpdating) name:@"labelUpdatedShouldReturn" object:nil]; Then my relevant methods: -(void)closeViewAfterUpdating; { NSLog(@"Part 1 called"); [self performSelector:@selector(closeViewAfterUpdating2) withObject:nil afterDelay:2.0]; } -(void)closeViewAfterUpdating2; { NSLog(@"Part 2 called"); [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; } The only reason why I've split this method into two parts is so that I can have a delay before the method is fired. The problem is, the second method is never called. My NSLog output shows Part 1 called, but it never fires part 2. Any ideas? EDIT: I'm calling the notification from a background thread, does that make a difference by any chance? Here's how I'm creating my background thread: [NSThread detachNewThreadSelector:@selector(getWeather) toTarget:self withObject:nil]; and in getWeather I have: [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:@"updateZipLabel" object:textfield.text]; Also, calling: [self performSelector:@selector(closeViewAfterUpdating2) withObject:nil]; does work. EDITx2: I fixed it. Just needed to post the notification in my main thread and it worked just fine.

Here's a simplified version of the link structure of the page: <a href="same/link/to/stuff/">same link</a> <a href="same/link/to/stuff/">same link</a> How do I fashion my selector so that it only selects the second anchor in the above example? Currently I'm trying: $('a[href=same/link/to/stuff/] :eq(1)') but it is not working. Thanks!!

    I've got an issue where I was tying to center images using the jQuery Cycle plugin. I found this solution, but it wasn't working on single images (there isn't always 2 images), so I wrote my own little bit of code, which seems to be working, except it sometimes doesn't subtract the height of the image from the height of the div, and so i end up with a margin of 310px. var $image_cnt = $("#images > img").size(); if($image_cnt < 2) { var $single_img = $("#images").children(':first-child'); var h = $single_img.height(); $single_img.css({ marginTop: (620 - h) / 2, }); $(".next").css("display","none"); $(".prev").css("display","none"); } I haven't used jQuery much, and just wanted to know if I'd missed something simple, or had written something wrong, which is why the marginTop wasn't playing nice.

    My code needs to capture the 'src' of an image in a variable. It then needs to insert this variable into a 'href' tag on a link which surrounds the image. My code is as follows: $('.fancybox-image-li img').each(function(test) { var test = $(this).attr("src"); $('.fancybox-image-link').attr('href', ''+test+''); }); Unfortunately what seems to be happening is the 'test' var is only getting the attribute of the last img and then inserting this into all the 'href' attributes. Currently, I have it 100% of the width of the screen but I'd like to have it look almost exactly like Facebook's toolbar, centered, bottom justified on top, around 80% of the current screen's width.
