  • Clipplanes, vertex shaders and hardware vertex processing in Direct3D 9

    - by Igor
    Hi, I have an issue with clipplanes in my application that I can reproduce in a sample from DirectX SDK (February 2010). I added a clipplane to the HLSLwithoutEffects sample: ... D3DXPLANE g_Plane( 0.0f, 1.0f, 0.0f, 0.0f ); ... void SetupClipPlane(const D3DXMATRIXA16 & view, const D3DXMATRIXA16 & proj) { D3DXMATRIXA16 m = view * proj; D3DXMatrixInverse( &m, NULL, &m ); D3DXMatrixTranspose( &m, &m ); D3DXPLANE plane; D3DXPlaneNormalize( &plane, &g_Plane ); D3DXPLANE clipSpacePlane; D3DXPlaneTransform( &clipSpacePlane, &plane, &m ); DXUTGetD3D9Device()->SetClipPlane( 0, clipSpacePlane ); } void CALLBACK OnFrameMove( double fTime, float fElapsedTime, void* pUserContext ) { // Update the camera's position based on user input g_Camera.FrameMove( fElapsedTime ); // Set up the vertex shader constants D3DXMATRIXA16 mWorldViewProj; D3DXMATRIXA16 mWorld; D3DXMATRIXA16 mView; D3DXMATRIXA16 mProj; mWorld = *g_Camera.GetWorldMatrix(); mView = *g_Camera.GetViewMatrix(); mProj = *g_Camera.GetProjMatrix(); mWorldViewProj = mWorld * mView * mProj; g_pConstantTable->SetMatrix( DXUTGetD3D9Device(), "mWorldViewProj", &mWorldViewProj ); g_pConstantTable->SetFloat( DXUTGetD3D9Device(), "fTime", ( float )fTime ); SetupClipPlane( mView, mProj ); } void CALLBACK OnFrameRender( IDirect3DDevice9* pd3dDevice, double fTime, float fElapsedTime, void* pUserContext ) { // If the settings dialog is being shown, then // render it instead of rendering the app's scene if( g_SettingsDlg.IsActive() ) { g_SettingsDlg.OnRender( fElapsedTime ); return; } HRESULT hr; // Clear the render target and the zbuffer V( pd3dDevice->Clear( 0, NULL, D3DCLEAR_TARGET | D3DCLEAR_ZBUFFER, D3DCOLOR_ARGB( 0, 45, 50, 170 ), 1.0f, 0 ) ); // Render the scene if( SUCCEEDED( pd3dDevice->BeginScene() ) ) { pd3dDevice->SetVertexDeclaration( g_pVertexDeclaration ); pd3dDevice->SetVertexShader( g_pVertexShader ); pd3dDevice->SetStreamSource( 0, g_pVB, 0, sizeof( D3DXVECTOR2 ) ); pd3dDevice->SetIndices( g_pIB ); pd3dDevice->SetRenderState( D3DRS_CLIPPLANEENABLE, D3DCLIPPLANE0 ); V( pd3dDevice->DrawIndexedPrimitive( D3DPT_TRIANGLELIST, 0, 0, g_dwNumVertices, 0, g_dwNumIndices / 3 ) ); pd3dDevice->SetRenderState( D3DRS_CLIPPLANEENABLE, 0 ); RenderText(); V( g_HUD.OnRender( fElapsedTime ) ); V( pd3dDevice->EndScene() ); } } When I rotate the camera I have different visual results when using hardware and software vertex processing. In software vertex processing mode or when using the reference device the clipping plane works fine as expected. In hardware mode it seems to rotate with the camera. If I remove the call to RenderText(); from OnFrameRender then hardware rendering also works fine. Further debugging reveals that the problem is in ID3DXFont::DrawText. I have this issue in Windows Vista and Windows 7 but not in Windows XP. I tested the code with the latest NVidia and ATI drivers in all three OSes on different PCs. Is it a DirectX issue? Or incorrect usage of clipplanes? Thanks Igor

  • Const references when dereferencing iterator on set, starting from Visual Studio 2010

    - by Patrick
Starting from Visual Studio 2010, iterating over a set seems to return an iterator that dereferences the data as 'const data' instead of non-const. The following code is an example of something that does compile on Visual Studio 2005, but not on 2010 (this is an artificial example, but clearly illustrates the problem we found on our own code). In this example, I have a class that stores a position together with a temperature. I define comparison operators (not all them, just enough to illustrate the problem) that only use the position, not the temperature. The point is that for me two instances are identical if the position is identical; I don't care about the temperature. #include <set> class DataPoint { public: DataPoint (int x, int y) : m_x(x), m_y(y), m_temperature(0) {} void setTemperature(double t) {m_temperature = t;} bool operator<(const DataPoint& rhs) const { if (m_x==rhs.m_x) return m_y<rhs.m_y; else return m_x<rhs.m_x; } bool operator==(const DataPoint& rhs) const { if (m_x!=rhs.m_x) return false; if (m_y!=rhs.m_y) return false; return true; } private: int m_x; int m_y; double m_temperature; }; typedef std::set<DataPoint> DataPointCollection; void main(void) { DataPointCollection points; points.insert (DataPoint(1,1)); points.insert (DataPoint(1,1)); points.insert (DataPoint(1,2)); points.insert (DataPoint(1,3)); points.insert (DataPoint(1,1)); for (DataPointCollection::iterator it=points.begin();it!=points.end();++it) { DataPoint &point = *it; point.setTemperature(10); } } In the main routine I have a set to which I add some points. To check the correctness of the comparison operator, I add data points with the same position multiple times. When writing the contents of the set, I can clearly see there are only 3 points in the set. The for-loop loops over the set, and sets the temperature. Logically this is allowed, since the temperature is not used in the comparison operators. This code compiles correctly in Visual Studio 2005, but gives compilation errors in Visual Studio 2010 on the following line (in the for-loop): DataPoint &point = *it; The error given is that it can't assign a "const DataPoint" to a [non-const] "DataPoint &". It seems that you have no decent (= non-dirty) way of writing this code in VS2010 if you have a comparison operator that only compares parts of the data members. Possible solutions are: Adding a const-cast to the line where it gives an error Making temperature mutable and making setTemperature a const method But to me both solutions seem rather 'dirty'. It looks like the C++ standards committee overlooked this situation. Or not? What are clean solutions to solve this problem? Did some of you encounter this same problem and how did you solve it? • EFI Partition Types

    - by Will
Another employee was working with a mounted VHD and was using diskpart on it and I'm not sure if he messed something up or not. I think it's fine but I wanted to double check. We have a Windows 2008 x64 machine that boots with EFI because of the large disks in the system. What should the different labels be within Disk Manager for this system? Here is what is currently set: 200 MB Partition - EFI System Partition C Partition - Boot, Page File, Crash Dump There should not be an active partition under EFI, correct? Also, is there supposed to be a "System" label in addition to "EFI System Partition"?

  • self-issued exchange certificate for dyndns-url

    - by Sam
I've got an exchange server behind behind a port to address translation firewall. The server is reachable from the internet using a dyndns-url. Now I want to sync windows phones to exchange mailboxes. To achieve this, I need to install the exchange certificate on the windows phone (send it to the phone by mail, double click). So far so good. But, as far as I can see this does only work if the certificate on my exchange server matches the dyndns-url? So I'd like to know: how do I create a self signed certificate for my dyndns-url and install it on exchange?

  • rsync to windows (cygwin)

    - by abergmeier
We have a windows file storage (don't ask) and now I want to rsync with the machine from Windows, Mac and Linux. So I installed freeSSHd (login shell is set to C:/cygwin64/bin/sh.exe), set up certificates and testing from Linux the test.dat has 0 bytes: ssh myuser@winmachinename "C:/cygwin64/bin/true.exe" > test.dat Even double checking with actual output works fine: ssh myuser@winmachinename "C:/cygwin64/bin/ls.exe" > test.dat Now, when I call rsync: rsync --progress -avz -e ssh myuser@winmachinename:/c/Users ~/test it fails with: protocol version mismatch -- is your shell clean? (see the rsync man page for an explanation) rsync error: protocol incompatibility (code 2) at compat.c(174) [Receiver=3.1.0] As far as reading the docs, this should not happen, when the first test is successful!? I am by now out of ideas - any recommendations how to debug this? EDIT: | OS | rsync version | |:--------------|:------------------------------------------| | Windows | rsync version 3.0.9 protocol version 30 | | Linux | rsync version 3.1.0 protocol version 31 |

  • using return values from a c# .net made component build as com+

    - by YvesR
    Hello, so far I made a component in C# .NET 4 and use System.EnterpriseServices to make it COM visible. I want to develop business methods in C#, but I still need to access them from classic ASP (vbscript). So far so good, everything works fine (exept function overloading :)). Now I made a test class to get more expirience with return code. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; using System.EnterpriseServices; using System.Management; namespace iController { /// /// The tools class provides additional functions for general use in out of context to other classes of the iController. /// public class tools :ServicedComponent { #region publich methods public bool TestBoolean() { return true; } public string TestString() { return "this is a string"; } public int TestInteger() { return 32; } public double TestDouble() { return 32.32; } public float TestFloat() { float ret = 2 ^ 16; return ret; } public string[] TestArray() { string[] ret = {"0","1"}; return ret; } public int[][] TestJaggedArray() { int[][] jaggedArray = new int[3][]; jaggedArray[0] = new int[] { 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 }; jaggedArray[1] = new int[] { 0, 2, 4, 6 }; jaggedArray[2] = new int[] { 11, 22 }; return jaggedArray; } public Dictionary<string, string> TestDictionary() { Dictionary<string, string> ret = new Dictionary<string,string>(); ret.Add("test1","val1"); ret.Add("test2","val2"); return ret; } #endregion } } Then I just made a simple vbscript file to run it with cscript.exe for testing porpuse. Dim oTools : Set oTools = CreateObject("iController.tools") WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(oTools.TestBoolean()) & " - " & oTools.TestBoolean() WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(oTools.TestString()) & " - " & oTools.TestString() WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(oTools.TestInteger()) & " - " & oTools.TestInteger() WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(oTools.TestDouble()) & " - " & oTools.TestDouble() WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(oTools.TestFloat()) & " - " & oTools.TestFloat() test = oTools.TestArray() WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(test) WScript.StdOut.WriteLine UBound(test) For i = 0 To UBound(test) WScript.StdOut.WriteLine test(i) Next For Each item IN test WScript.StdOut.WriteLine item Next test = oTools.TestJaggedArray() WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(test) For Each item IN test WScript.StdOut.WriteLine test & " - " & test.Item(item) Next test = oTools.TestDictionary() WScript.StdOut.WriteLine TypeName(test) For Each item IN test WScript.StdOut.WriteLine test & " - " & test.Item(item) Next What works fine: string, int, foat, double When it comes to array, jaggedarray or dictionaries I get a type mismatch. VarType is 13 object for the dictionary e.g. but this dict seems to be different then the Scripting.Dictionary. I checked codeproject.com and stackoverflow all day and didn't find any hints exept some thread on stackoverflow where someone mentioned there is a need to created a IDispatch interface. So anyone ever had the same issue and can help me or give me some hints I can go on with?

  • Why do funky characters show up in these Microsoft Word equations?

    - by mipadi
A colleague sent me a document created with Microsoft Office 2007 that contains equations. On her end, the document looks fine; however, on my end, the equations show up with these funky characters overlaid on them: Why do these weird characters show up, and how do I fix it? The equations appear like this in both .doc and .docx documents. Additionally, when I double-click on the equations to edit them, I get a warning that the equations were created with a newer version of the equation editor, and when I close the editing window, the equations are gone completely. I think this might indicate a compatibility problem, but I am not sure of a solution.

  • using xml type attribute for derived complex types

    - by David Michel
    Hi All, I'm trying to get derived complex types from a base type in an xsd schema. it works well when I do this (inspired by this): xml file: <person xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:type="Employee"> <name>John</name> <height>59</height> <jobDescription>manager</jobDescription> </person> xsd file: <xs:element name="person" type="Person"/> <xs:complexType name="Person" abstract="true"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name= "name" type="xs:string"/> <xs:element name= "height" type="xs:double" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="Employee"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:extension base="Person"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="jobDescription" type="xs:string" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:extension> </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType> However, if I want to have the person element inside, for example, a sequence of another complex type, it doesn't work anymore: xml: <staffRecord> <company>mycompany</company> <dpt>sales</dpt> <person xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:type="Employee"> <name>John</name> <height>59</height> <jobDescription>manager</jobDescription> </person> </staffRecord> xsd file: <xs:element name="staffRecord"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="company" type="xs:string"/> <xs:element name="dpt" type="xs:string"/> <xs:element name="person" type="Person"/> <xs:complexType name="Person" abstract="true"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name= "name" type="xs:string"/> <xs:element name= "height" type="xs:double" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> <xs:complexType name="Employee"> <xs:complexContent> <xs:extension base="Person"> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="jobDescription" type="xs:string" /> </xs:sequence> </xs:extension> </xs:complexContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> When validating the xml with that schema with xmllint (under linux), I get this error message then: config.xsd:12: element complexType: Schemas parser error : Element '{http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema}sequence': The content is not valid. • Software to store my password on a crypted file and access it through another password

    - by Fire-Dragon-DoL
I'm looking for a software that allows me to store some passwords in something like "a text file", access it through a password, read my passwords if required and close it again. I want something really straightforward, double click on file, right click "Add new password", add password, description and close. The file must be really secure, I'll store all my passwords there. I know about some command line solutions but I want my setup to be really fast on reading. Do someone know if such a software exist and can point me in the correct direction? I would like to find it freeware, but I'm ok with some low cost tools too.

  • Script to kill process at logoff doesn't execute until process is dead?

    - by robertc
We have a program that, due to memory leaks in some of the screens, doesn't exit cleanly when the user quits. The problem is that this blocks the normal logoff procedure - you select logout and a few processes disappear but the user doesn't actually log off. Since I'm unable to fix the program, I thought I'd use a script run at logoff to kill the process. I've verified the script kills the process if I run it by double clicking and have added the script to Windows Settings - Scripts - Logoff on my machine in gpedit. Unfortunately it seems that the logoff scripts don't get run until all the processes have died, so it never runs. Is there a way to make the logoff scripts run at an earlier point in the process? Or is there a better approach to the issue?

  • sql and web encoding problem

    - by Marki
Guys, I've got an encoding problem I believe. I have upgraded from phpBB2 to phpBB3. The old databases were in latin1, the new ones have utf8 encoding. Already during the upgrade process some rows of the DB were only read partly into the new version, because of strange characters as it turned out. When I use PHP's mb_convert_encoding() function to convert those strings to UTF8 they end up e.g. as 0x0093, i.e. they must have been some kind of double quotes. Even after doing this conversion, they still show up as 0x0093 in the browser (the squares with 0093 in them when the browser does not know what to display). Can someone explain the problem here? I'm a little confused and afraid I don't see all the dependencies that need to work to have the correct encodings and the correct display thereof...

  • JAVA BubbleSort Output Plotting

    - by John Smith
    I'm not sure how to plot the output I get with my run time results for BubbleSort. Here's the thing: I've written a working BubbleSort algorithm that does exactly as it should. But I wish to plot the output, to show the following: Best Case, Worst Case, Average Case ... How would I go about plotting it on a graph? Here is the code: public class BubbleSort { static double bestTime = 10000000, worstTime = 0; public static void main(String[] args) { int BubArray[] = new int[]{13981, 6793, 2662, 10986, 733, ... #1000 integers}; System.out.println("Unsorted List Before Bubble Sort"); for(int a = 0; a < BubArray.length; a++){ System.out.print(BubArray[a] + " "); } System.out.println("\n Bubble Sort Execution ..."); for(int i=0; i<10000;i++) { bubbleSortTimeTaken(BubArray, i); } int itrs = bubbleSort(BubArray); System.out.println(""); System.out.println("Array After Bubble Sort"); System.out.println("Moves Taken for Sort : " + itrs + " Moves."); System.out.println("BestTime: " + bestTime + " WorstTime: " + worstTime); System.out.print("Sorted Array: \n"); for(int a = 0; a < BubArray.length; a++){ System.out.print(BubArray[a] + " "); } } private static int bubbleSort(int[] BubArray) { int z = BubArray.length; int temp = 0; int itrs = 0; for(int a = 0; a < z; a++){ for(int x=1; x < (z-a); x++){ if(BubArray[x-1] > BubArray[x]){ temp = BubArray[x-1]; BubArray[x-1] = BubArray[x]; BubArray[x] = temp; } itrs++; } } return itrs; } public static void bubbleSortTimeTaken(int[] BubArray, int n) { long startTime = System.nanoTime(); bubbleSort(BubArray); double timeTaken = (System.nanoTime() - startTime)/1000000d; if (timeTaken > 0) { worstTime = timeTaken; } else if (timeTaken < bestTime) { bestTime = timeTaken; } System.out.println(n + "," + timeTaken); } } The output are as the following ( execution number, time (nano/10^6): Unsorted List Before Bubble Sort 13981 6793 2662 .... #1000 integers Bubble Sort Execution ... 0, 18.319891 1, 4.728978 2, 3.670697 3, 3.648922 4, 4.161576 5, 3.824369 .... 9995, 4.331423 9996, 3.692473 9997, 3.709893 9998, 6.16055 9999, 4.32209 Array After Bubble Sort Moves Taken for Sort : 541320 Moves.   • Windows 7: Open File - Security Warning box appears for every app on the desktop

    - by Michael Ratanapintha
Whenever I double-click to open an executable on the desktop (.exe, .bat, etc.), or a shortcut on the desktop that points to an executable, the "Security Warning" pops up and asks me "Are you really sure you want to open that? Stuff from the Internet is dangerous!" I don't usually mind this warning and don't want to disable it globally, but now I'm getting it for any executable on the desktop, even ones that I didn't download from the Web and don't have the Mark of the Web alternate data stream. (That is, streams -d * shouldn't and doesn't help.) This started fairly recently, but I can't really point to anything I did that triggered it. It only occurs in one user account on the machine; the other account doesn't have this problem. Running System Restore didn't help. How can I fix the problem and make the pop-up warning appear only when it's supposed to?

  • Excel (.xls) files not opening in Excel when launched from Explorer

    - by Alex Berry
I appear to have done something to Excel (2003) whereby whenever I double-click on an Excel file (.xls) in Windows Explorer, Excel launches OK, but the corresponding workbook doesn't open, and I'm left with an instance of Excel with no active workbook, i.e. a grey screen. It was fine earlier on, but now it's goosed. It's clearly not windows file associations, as Excel launches ok. It's a problem specific to Excel itself... Any thoughts what I might have done to give rise to this? Many thanks, Alex.

  • How to add a 'second elbow' to an 'elbow arrow connector' in Powerpoint 2007?

    - by ricebowl
I'm trying to put together a relatively complex flow-chart thing -as part of a University assignment (health-related, and gosh, does my university love all things Microsoft Office...). Because of the way the chart progresses I have to connect two objects with a 'double elbow' version of the 'elbow arrow connector.' I accept that perhaps this complexity means I should redesign the chart, but I've tried and failed to simplify things already. If you'll pardon my ASCII art, this is what I have: +----------------+ | 1 | | | +-------+--------+ | | +-------+--------+ /\ |2 +--------|-----/ 3\ +----------------+ \ / \/ Shape 1 should connect to shape 3, currently the line doing so passes behind shape 2. The diagram below shows what I'd prefer, and, frankly, what I need to happen. +----------------+ | 1 | | | +-------+--------+ | +-----------+ +----------------+ | /\ |2 | +--/ 3\ +----------------+ \ / \/ Having explored the various right-click options I'm either being blind and not seeing it, or...well, I'm hoping it's just me being blind and/or stupid, frankly. If anyone has any suggestions they'd be gratefully received. I'm working with WinXP and Office 2007 (at the university, I run on Ubuntu at home, which possibly explains why I'm missing something potentially simple)...

I've attempt to change it as follows: Go in to the "Mail" Control Panel applet Click the "Data Files..." button Double-click the particular email account Click the "Advanced" tab Click the "Offline Folder File Settings..." button The resulting dialog box has the "File:" textbox and the "Browse" button disabled. I've searched the registry for a match (so I could possibly change it there) but found nothing.

  • Good option for a transparent internet gateway on Mac OS X

    - by Gareth
Hi I have a small network of Mac systems, and would like to add some internal monitoring of our internet usage, which has recently begun to climb. I would like to configure one of the machines as an internet gateway, and install some monitoring software that could provide graph indications of network usage by machine. The machine would then double as a workstation and as the internet gateway. I can manually configure the machines on the network to use it as a gateway, and would prefer to avoid an explicit http proxy (although it is an option if necessary). What software would serverfault users recommend to provide simple, easily configurable and maintainable network monitoring on Mac OS 10.5.7 (non-server)? The simplest requirement is monitor usage by IP Address, but additional tracking (e.g. destination, protocol, etc) would be useful.

  • java - BigDecimal

    - by Mk12
I was trying to make my own class for currencies using longs, but Apparently I should use BigDecimal (and then whenever I print it just add the $ sign before it). Could someone please get me started? What would be the best way to use BigDecimals for Dollar currencies, like making it at least but no more than 2 decimal places for the cents, etc. The api for BigDecimal is huge, and I don't know which methods to use. Also, BigDecimal has better precision, but isn't that all lost if it passes through a double? if I do new BigDecimal(24.99), how will it be different than using a double? Or should I use the constructor that uses a String instead? EDIT: I decided to use BigDecimals, and then use: private static final java.text.NumberFormat moneyt = java.text.NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance(); { money.setRoundingMode(RoundingMode.HALF_EVEN); } and then whenever I display the BigDecimals, to use money.format(theBigDecimal). Is this alright? Should I have the BigDecimal rounding it too? Because then it doesn't get rounded before it does another operation.. if so, could you show me how? And how should I create the BigDecimals? new BigDecimal("24.99") ? Well, after many comments to Vineet Reynolds (thanks for keeping coming back and answering), this is what I have decided. I use BigDecimals and a NumberFormat. Here is where I create the NumberFormat instance. private static final NumberFormat money; static { money = NumberFormat.getCurrencyInstance(Locale.CANADA); money.setRoundingMode(RoundingMode.HALF_EVEN); } Here is my BigDecimal: private final BigDecimal price; Whenever I want to display the price, or another BigDecimal that I got through calculations of price, I use: money.format(price) to get the String. Whenever I want to store the price, or a calculation from price, in a database or in a field or anywhere, I use (for a field): myCalculatedResult = price.add(new BigDecimal("34.58")).setScale(2, RoundingMode.HALF_EVEN); .. but I'm thinking now maybe I should not have the NumberFormat round, but when I want to display do this: System.out.print(money.format(price.setScale(2, RoundingMode.HALF_EVEN); That way to ensure the model and things displayed in the view are the same. I don't do: price = price.setScale(2, RoundingMode.HALF_EVEN); Because then it would always round to 2 decimal places and wouldn't be as precise in calculations. So its all solved now, I guess. But is there any shortcut to typing calculatedResult.setScale(2, RoundingMode.HALF_EVEN) all the time? All I can think of is static importing HALF_EVEN... EDIT: I've changed my mind a bit, I think if I store a value, I won't round it unless I have no more operations to do with it, e.g. if it was the final total that will be charged to someone. I will only round things at the end, or whenever necessary, and I will still use NumberFormat for the currency formatting, but since I always want rounding for display, I made a static method for display: public static String moneyFormat(BigDecimal price) { return money.format(price.setScale(2, RoundingMode.HALF_EVEN)); } So values stored in variables won't be rounded, and I'll use that method to display prices.

I would like the server to have 8 RAID1 pairs of spinning disks, so I intend to implement: Dell R910 Server Integrated PERC H700 Adapter with 1 SAS expander on each SAS connector (so 8 expanders in total) 7 RAID1 pairs of 143Gb 15K HDD, each paired on one connector using an expander 1 RAID1 pair of 600Gb 10K HDD, paired on the remaining connector using an expander My main concern is not to introduce bottlenecks in this architecture, and I have the following questions. Will the PERC H700 Adapter act as a bottleneck for disk access? Will using SAS expanders for each RAID1 pair cause a bottleneck or would this be as fast as pairing disks directly attached to the SAS connectors? Can I mix the disks, as long as the disks in each RAID1 pair are the same? I assume so. Can anyone recommend any single-to-double SAS Expanders that are known to function well with the H700? Cheers Alex

  • Why won't my Windows 7 KMS key work on my Server 2008 KMS server?

    - by Ryan Bolger
Our Microsoft volume licensing site was recently updated to include our Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 KMS keys. We have an existing KMS server running on Server 2008 (not R2). In an attempt to be proactive about supporting the new OSes in our environment, I unregistered the old KMS key with slmgr.vbs and tried registering the new key. The registration failed with Error 0xC004F050. The description for that error was "The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid." What's wrong? I've checked and double checked that for typos against what is listed on the Volume Licensing website.

  • How do I catch this WPF Bitmap loading exception?

    - by mmr
I'm developing an application that loads bitmaps off of the web using .NET 3.5 sp1 and C#. The loading code looks like: try { CurrentImage = pics[unChosenPics[index]]; bi = new BitmapImage(CurrentImage.URI); // BitmapImage.UriSource must be in a BeginInit/EndInit block. bi.DownloadCompleted += new EventHandler(bi_DownloadCompleted); AssessmentImage.Source = bi; } catch { System.Console.WriteLine("Something broke during the read!"); } and the code to load on bi_DownloadCompleted is: void bi_DownloadCompleted(object sender, EventArgs e) { try { double dpi = 96; int width = bi.PixelWidth; int height = bi.PixelHeight; int stride = width * 4; // 4 bytes per pixel byte[] pixelData = new byte[stride * height]; bi.CopyPixels(pixelData, stride, 0); BitmapSource bmpSource = BitmapSource.Create(width, height, dpi, dpi, PixelFormats.Bgra32, null, pixelData, stride); AssessmentImage.Source = bmpSource; Loading.Visibility = Visibility.Hidden; AssessmentImage.Visibility = Visibility.Visible; } catch { System.Console.WriteLine("Exception when viewing bitmap."); } } Every so often, an image comes along that breaks the reader. I guess that's to be expected. However, rather than being caught by either of those try/catch blocks, the exception is apparently getting thrown outside of where I can handle it. I could handle it using global WPF exceptions, like this SO question. However, that will seriously mess up the control flow of my program, and I'd like to avoid that if at all possible. I have to do the double source assignment because it appears that many images are lacking in width/height parameters in the places where the microsoft bitmap loader expects them to be. So, the first assignment appears to force the download, and the second assignment gets the dpi/image dimensions happen properly. What can I do to catch and handle this exception? • Tool to maintain/keep track of filesystem content integrity?

    - by Jesse
I'm looking for a tool to maintain the integrity of a filesystem and it's contents using checksums. Effectively storing a list of checksums/filename pairs somewhere on the filesystem in a way that can be verified later if files are somehow damaged or lost. Git does what I want, but because it stores the contents of every file in it's object database, the disk usage will at least double. And the fact that it does not provide a progress bar when scanning files tells me it was not designed for the multi-terabyte filesystem I have in mind. I can do this crudely by storing the output of md5deep, but is there a tool specifically designed for this purpose, using whatever smarts possible to make the process efficient?

  • Android AlertDialog wait for result in calling activity

    - by insanesam
I am trying to use an AlertDialog in my app to select the quantity of an item. The problem is that the activity that calls the AlertDialog doesn't wait for it to update the item before it adds it to the SQLite Database and change intents. At the moment, the QuantitySelector (AlertDialog) appears, then disappears straight away and changes the MealActivity class (which is just a ListView that reads from the database) through the intent change with an update to the database with quantity 0. I need the Activity to wait for the AlertDialog to close before it updates the database. What would be the correct way of implementing this? Here is some code for you: QuantitySelector (which runs the alertdialog): public class QuantitySelector{ protected static final int RESULT_OK = 0; private Context _context; private DatabaseHandler db; private HashMap<String, Double> measures; private Item item; private View v; private EditText quan; private NumberPicker pick; private int value; private Quantity quantity; /** * Function calls the quantity selector AlertDialog * @param _c: The application context * @param item: The item to be added to consumption * @return The quantity that is consumed */ public void select(Context _c, Item item, Quantity quantity){ this._context = _c; this.item = item; this.quantity = quantity; db = new DatabaseHandler(_context); //Get the measures to display createData(); //Set up the custom view LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(_context); v = inflater.inflate(R.layout.quantity_selector, null); //Set up the input fields quan = (EditText) v.findViewById(R.id.quantityNumber); pick = (NumberPicker) v.findViewById(R.id.numberPicker1); //Set up the custom measures into pick pick.setMaxValue(measures.size()-1); pick.setDisplayedValues(measures.keySet().toArray(new String[0])); //Start the alert dialog runDialog(); } public void createData(){ measures = new HashMap<String, Double>(); //Get the measurements from the database if(item!=null){ measures.putAll(db.getMeasures(item)); } //Add grams as the default measurement if(!measures.keySet().contains("grams")){ //Add grams as a standard measure measures.put("grams", 1.0); } } public void runDialog(){ AlertDialog dialog = new AlertDialog.Builder(_context).setTitle("Select Quantity") .setView(v) .setPositiveButton("OK", new DialogInterface.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(DialogInterface dialog, int whichButton) { //Change the consumption to the new quantity if(!quan.getText().toString().matches("")){ value = Integer.parseInt(quan.getText().toString()); //Check if conversion from other units is needed String s[] = pick.getDisplayedValues(); String a = s[pick.getValue()]; //Convert the chosen measure back to grams if(!a.equals("grams")){ for(String m : measures.keySet()){ if(m==a){ value = (int) (value * measures.get(m)); } } } } quantity.setQuantity(value); dialog.dismiss(); } }) .setNegativeButton("Cancel", null).create(); dialog.show(); } } The method from favouritesAdapter (which calls the alertdialog): add.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener(){ public void onClick(View arg0) { QuantitySelector q = new QuantitySelector(); Quantity quan = new Quantity(); q.select(_context, db.getItem(p.getID()), quan); db.addConsumption(p.getID(), p.getFavouriteShortName(), quan.getQuantity(), "FAVOURITE"); Intent intent = new Intent(_context,MealActivity.class); _context.startActivity(intent); } }); All help is appreciated :)

  • I want to install an MSI twice

    - by don.vince
I have a peculiar wish to install an msi twice on a machine. The purpose of the double install is to first install under the pre-production folder, run the deployment in a safe environment prior to deploying in the production folder. We typically use separate machines to represent these different environments however in this case I need to use the same box. The two scenarios I get are as follows: I've installed pre-production, I'm happy, I want to install production, I run the msi, it asks whether I want to repair or remove the installation I've production installed, I want to install the new version of the msi, it tells me I already have a version of the product installed and I must first un-install the current version The first scenario isn't too bad as we can at that point sensibly un-install and re-install under the production folder, but the second scenario is a pain as we don't want to un-install the live production deployment. Is there a setting I can give to msiexec that will allow this? Is there a more suitable different approach I could use?
