  • Is it possible to install Windows 8 on the SanDisk ReadyCache 32GB SSD drive?

    I bought the SanDisk ReadyCache 32GB SSD drive this week. I didn't know about the caching stuff and thought that I would be able to install Windows 8 on it. Now I'm using it as a cache drive with the ExpressCache software. But I wonder if it is possible to use this SSD as a primary system drive with an operating system installed on it. I've tried to format the disk via Windows Disc Manager Tool, but the format option is disabled. Only delete and information options are allowed. Can you help me with this?

  • How to install software packages on a shared Red Hat Linux host account without root access or rpm?

    I have a shared RHEL 4 host account where I do not have root privileges. I would like to install Git and Bash Complete in a way that they can be upgraded easily. To date, I've just been installing from source providing $HOME as a prefix to autoconf. Obviously this isn't ideal as I need to hunt down the files associated with the version I'm upgrading away from and delete them. I've tried using rpm but I just get -bash: rpm: command not found back so it's not available. I also looked into checkinstall but it looks like that requires rpm, dpkg, or Slackware's package manager to be available. Is there anything out there that can be used like a package manager without requiring root access or an existing package manager?

  • How to install Win7 over top of WinXP partition?

    I have a 2TB hard drive with 2 partitions on it, one a C drive for WinXP and another for extra space. I have a Win7 Pro install DVD and I have formatted that C drive via the DVD; it is now a blank "Primary" partition. I attempted to go through the Win7 setup and install it on that partition, but it's giving me an error: Setup unable to create new system partition or locate existing system partition. See setup log files for more info Googling around leads me to believe the entire drive has to be "cleaned" (diskpart) but that would wipe the entire other non-OS partition and I need to keep that data. How can I install Win7 on this blank partition without losing data on the other partition?

  • Openfire: Closing session due to incorrect hostname

    I have a fresh install on a windows sevrer 2008 box. I can connect adium to the server from a remote machine and from the admin console/sessions I can see my session. My friend can aslo connect and I can see his session. I can send an admin message out and both of us can see it in the adium clients. We can't see each other though. I also get these logs in the warn window in the log viewer: Closing session due to incorrect hostname in stream header. Host: prjatk.com. Connection: org.jivesoftware.openfire.net.SocketConnection@1b1fd9c socket: Socket[addr=/109.109.248.82,port=56258,localport=5269] session: null prjatk.com is the server - however in the server settings on the admin screen I see the computer name as the hostname - is that the issue? If so how can I change that?

  • Installing VMware ESXi 4.0 on Dell 1950: Cannot open vmkboot.gz

    I am trying to install VMware ESXi 4.0.0 U1 on a Dell 1950 server via a bootable CD-ROM. I keep getting this error right at the start: Cannot open vmkboot.gz I checked that the CD-ROM drive is not to blame by installing Debian Etch using that drive. I tried several different versions of ESXi (3.5, 3.5 Dell edition, 4.0 Dell edition) and they all give me an error at the same place. I also tried installing from a USB "thumb" drive but got the same error. I checked with the VMware HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) and the Dell 1950 is listed as being compatible. Here are some server details: Two 1.6 GHz Xeon 5110 CPUs (ID: 06-0F-B) BIOS version 2.2.6 Any ideas on what might be the issue?

  • How do software .dmg files mount or work in OS X?

    I am a new Mac user and have an iMac. Coming from the Windows world where everything is installer based, OS X seems to mount .dmg files and run them. I've seen this happen prior to an install and later it requests us to move an icon to the Applications folder. Could someone help me unclutter the install process on OS X. What or how does it work?   • Problems Installing Windows Server 2008 R2

    I've just finished 3 day download (with breaks) of Server 2008 R2, and am very eager to install it on my dev machine (my laptop, an HP Pavilion with a 2xTurion 64 cpu). If I mount the ISO and try and run Setup.exe, I get told Setup.exe is not a valid Win32 application. I tried burning the ISO to DVD (as files), but my machine wont't boot from DVD. If I re-insert the DVD, so that autorun comes into play, I get told something like "the setup is not valid for this version of Windows" Any suggestions as to what I might try, either to diagnose the problem, or to avoid it?

    I'm trying to install a linux distribution on my PC. I have a GEForce 8400 GS with two connected monitors. I tried with fedora 12 and ubuntu 9.1 (both 64 and 32 bit) and the live cd cannot boot properly. I don't get a visible error on ubuntu, it simply hang up during the boot. With fedora I get this erro: [drm] Modeset on unsupported output type [drm] Table 0x0000 not found for 1/1 using first I tried to disconnect one of the two monitor and was able to install on my HD and boot from there, but if I try to connect the second monitor again I cannot boot. Have I to install something else? (a driver for my video card for example).

I downloaded the ZIP file from the vendors website, unzipped it to the Desktop and now I have an SH file. I tried running this file from the command line as root, but the permissions were denied. How can I install this program on Linux? I know it's possible because I have heard of it being done. I just don't have the experience with Linux I need to get it done. To which directory should I install it? I tried the install command but it needed a directory to which to install.

    On a previous question i posted, i asked for help on fixing my windows vista box because it keeps going to blue screen. No one seems to have the answer, so now i want to install Windows 7. I want to know if i can install 7 without having to reformat my hard drive and having to lose all my files. I've already confirmed the hardware is working because i installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my external hard drive and it runs on my system fine.     I have windows xp on my dell but I lost the drivers disk so I want to install linux Fedora 13 instead and wipe the windows xp. I burned the iso to a dvd and loaded up the live session user and used "Install to harddrive" but when I get to the partitioning window there is no harddrives to install to so I cant overwrite the windows drive (/C:).. Help?

When I tried to start OpenOffice using the command: sudo /usr/lib/openoffice/program/soffice "-accept=socket,host=localhost,port=8100; urp;StarOffice.ServiceManager " -nologo -headless -nofirststartwizard: " It shows the error saying javaldx: Could not find a Java Runtime Environment! So I installed jre in my system, and then I did not get any error but OpenOffice does not start. Also I checked the process regarding OpenOffice, but I haven's seen any process related to that. Can any one help me to fix this issue?

    Is it possible to install the Windows Mobile SDK without having Visual Studio? I am using SharpDevelop to write a Windows Mobile application, but I need to use an assembly in the Windows Mobile 6.0 SDK. When I try to install the SDK I get a message that says Visual Studio is a prerequisite, and I am un able to install it. Is there a way to trick it in to thinking Visual Studio is installed; maybe a registry entry that can be added or something, or am I just hosed? Is there a reason I need to pay for Microsoft's IDE, or is this just a way for Microsoft to make some extra money? Thanks,

  • ubuntu 9.10 installer doesn't recognize the hard drive

    I downloaded Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 and am trying to install it on a fairly modern system with a Gigabyte GA-MA770-UD3 motherboard. Ubuntu 9.04 installed fine and still will when I stick that disc in, but 9.10 doesn't see my hard drive (western digital 250GB). If I boot from the disc, I can install gparted and it does recognize the drive, but when I try to start the install process from the live disc, Ubuntu again doesn't recognize the hard drive. I checked /var/log/messages and see this: Nov 12 17:28:08 ubuntu activate-dmraid: Serial ATA RAID disk(s) detected. If this was bad, boot with 'nodmraid'. Nov 12 17:28:08 ubuntu activate-dmraid: Enabling dmraid support Nov 12 17:28:08 ubuntu activate-dmraid: ERROR: either the required RAID set not found or more options required. Nov 12 17:28:08 ubuntu activate-dmraid: ERROR: either the required RAID set not found or more options required. I checked my BIOS, SATA is enabled and is set to IDE mode, so there shouldn't be software RAID, but nonetheless, I added nodmraid to the boot line and tried again.     At work we have freeBSD testmachine. And we have a PHP script that uses SSH2 protocol to connect with the freeBSD server. With this script I'm not able to connect to the freeBSD server. I wanted to install it, but I'm not sure where to find the right source to compile. The connection can be made with a different machine, but isntalling a new distro isn't the solution right now. I can connect to the server over ssh, but not with the ssh2 protocol in PHP (http://nl.php.net/ssh2).

  • Debian Testing install USB menu does not respond to keyboard

    I'm trying to install Debian Testing onto my Acer Aspire One ZG5 using the testing versions of boot.img and debian-testing-i386-CD-1.iso. I previously installed (two days ago) the latest release of stable, and the boot.img/CD1 from that worked fine, and installed seamlessly. With testing though, the menu does not respond to the keyboard as soon as the menu appears to select Install/Graphical install/Help, etc. I have also tried to boot with an external (USB) keyboard, which again, works fine with the stable version of boot.img/CD1, but not testing. I did some searching and couldn't find anything that looked similar. Any ideas?
