• sudo refuses my password

  I've just installed Ubuntu 12.04 and now that I want to install a program through the terminal with a command starting with sudo, the terminal says Sorry, try again. I just don't get it, this is my user password which I check with through the Software Center. What can be then wrong? (Is it possible that the terminal function differently than the rest of the OS in relation to ASCII keyboard?) Please help.

• Assigning shortcuts (accelerators) to Nautilus 3

  I want to assign some shortcuts to menu actions in Nautilus 3.2.1 running under Ubuntu 11.10. I followed the steps shown here How do you create a "new document" keyboard shortcut? but it did not work for me. Switched to gnome classic so I can get the normal menu, hovered over the desired action pressed the desired keys but nothing happened (restarted nautilus, re-logged and nothing). Any suggestions or ideas on how to assign custom shortcuts to actions in Nautilus 3

• Scale effect to preview and switch between windows?

  Over the last few days Windows Live Mail stopped fetching my Hotmail. I assumed it was a problem with Microsoft’s NNTP Web service, so I went back to using the browser to check my Hotmail. • Windows 8 changes GRUB2 in every boot!

  I've installed Win8 and Ubuntu 12.10 both UEFI style (win8 first then ubuntu). GRUB2 shows me Both Ubuntu and Win8 entries. If I boot into Ubuntu is fine. I could reboot anytime I will see GRUB2 unchanged. The story changes when I Boot into Win8. When I boot to Win8 using GRUB2 it takes me to the Windows Boot manager (which only has the Windows 8 entry). I hit Windows and it boots fine. When I reboot, there's no GRUB2 nor Win loader. It has no boot loader. I boot a liveCD and download boot-repair and everything is back. It's a never ending cycle. Is GRUB2 supposed to load the Win boot loader? What can I do to fix it?

  I was installing TFS on my local laptop last week and just got around to setting up my initial collection using the TFS Console tool and “Bang!”  I received a message that told me that my local database didn’t have the full-text search option installed.  I remember the option in a (long) list of options and didn’t remember fiddling with it.   Whatever the reason, if you are installing TFS Basic on your box, make sure you have that little check ticked, or you won’t get the big fat one pictured above.  I installed SQL 2008 Developer edition which worked well for what I needed so far, and just needed to run the “Add Feature” option instead of the “Repair” option. • Ubuntu 11.10 cannot boot, gets stuck at BusyBox

  I am using Ubuntu 11.10. An hour ago I had my laptop Sony Vaio VPCEB1S1E running. I saw there are updates to install and I installed them. I turned off the laptop and now when I turn it on it loads until BusyBox v1.18.4 appears. I've seen suggestions for solving this on askubuntu. I booted Puppy Linux from USB and repaired the partition where the Ubuntu is installed. I rebooted but it did not help. I saw other suggestions like writing "exit" at the BusyBox prompt. This didn't help either. I love the Ubuntu OS, but these days I get problems like this while booting. The last times I could repair it with GParted, but then it wasn't a problem with BusyBox, it was some other error, like "cannot boot /". The same problem had occurred on Ubuntu 10.10 and there I had repaired it with GParted.

• Ubuntu 11.10 cannot boot. It stucks at BusyBox

  I am using Ubuntu 11.10. An hour ago I had my laptop Sony Vaio VPCEB1S1E running. I saw there are updates to install and I installed them. Turned off the laptop and now when I want to turn it on. The same problem occurred on an older version of Ubuntu 10.10 and there I've repaired it again with Gparted.

• Can't boot into windows7 after installling Ubuntu-12.04 (LTS) on HP 6735s laptop 12.04

  I installed Ubuntu-12.04 (LTS) through a USB drive and when it's done i cant load Windows 7 (Loader)(on/dev/sda1) in GRUB. When I select that, it displays a black screen and then returns to GRUB but i'm still able to boot into 12.04. Help me to solve this, I installed Boot-repair,I checked reinstall grub in the main option tab and checked place boot flag on sda1 windows7 in other options tab , re booted and it wasnt working this is was bootinfo summary http://paste.ubuntu.com/1206875/, i also tried sudo grub-install "(hd0)" sudo update-grub in the terminal and i gave me found Windows 7 (loader) on /dev/sda1 and rebooted but i still wasnt able to boot into windows 7, this is my bootinfoo summary after i typed those two commands http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/1206955/ please help me,I'm at wits end thanks Dimeji

• Out Of disk, but still boots

  I have a HP Compaq nx6310 notebook wth 4gb memory & a new 250gb hdd. After installing Ubuntu 12.04, i got an "out of disk" error & was unable to boot. I rebooted in live, instaled & ran Boot Repair then rebooted. Grub menu loaded fine, followed by "out of disk.....press any key to continue". I pressed a key & Ubuntu booted, a bit slow but still booted. • How can I restore a corrupted Shotwell db?

  While I was importing photos from a SD card in Shotwell, my laptop has crashed (shutdown because of over-heating). Now, I can no longer launch Shotwell: $ shotwell ** ERROR:x86_64-linux-gnu/db/VersionTable.c:104:version_table_construct: assertion failed: (res == SQLITE_OK) If I move the .db file ~/.shotwell/data/photo.db elsewhere so it is no longer present (but backed-up), shotwell will launch, but will rebuild its library, which will be empty. I can re-import the folders shotwell creates, but I lose nearly all meta-data (most importantly the "folders", or events, and their main picture) Is there a way to repair/rebuild/restore photo.db? How can I see what's inside? how bad it's damaged? Or is there another way to get back my events and imports?
