• How do you install packetfence?

  Was anyone able to install packetfence on Ubuntu 10? I tried a tutorial, but didn't have any luck. Some of the services installed and are working apache with php, snort, pfdetect, and pfdhcplistener. I can even get info from it, but for the life of me I can't get it to work with apache2. When I run pfcmd service pf start I also get an error uninitialized value $_[7] in join at /usr/local/pf/lib/pf/class.pm line 170

• problem after suspend ubuntu 12.04

I just started using Ubuntu and installed 12.04 the only problem is that when i turn my laptop back on after suspension i get a black screen with this written: legacy_resume():pnp_bus_resume+0x0/0x70 return -19 PM: Device 00:09 failed to resume: error -19 i8042: Can't reactivate AUX port and after this message at times my touchpad doesn't work as well. • Ubuntu virtual memory caches suck up memory

  Hey all, I've got an Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit server that seems to use up all available memory. According to my munin graphs, almost all of the memory used up is in the swap cache, cache, and slab cache. (I take this to mean virtual memory caches, am I right in assuming this?) Once memory usage approaches 100%, some (although not all) system services such as SSH become sluggish and unresponsive. After rebooting the system, performance and memory usage become normal for a time. Some interesting tidbits: The system runs Apache 2, MySQL, Munin, and sshd. The memory usage spikes happen at the same time every night (at 10 PM sharp.) There appears to be nothing in the crontab for any of the users, and nothing in /etc/cron.d/* out of the ordinary, let alone something that would occur at 10 PM. My question is, how do I figure out what is causing the memory suckage? I've tried the usual utilities (e.g. ps, top, etc) but I can't seem to find anything unusual. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

• frequent "SNMP error" with Cacti

  When adding new devices to my Cacti instance, I get frequent "SNMP error" messages in the device screen. But the error is not consistent, not even for the same device. Here's what I already have checked: Sometimes a device shows that "SNMP error" message even when it did not had that error an hour before, and vice versa. I tried this with several different Cacti releases, installed on different OS (Debian squeeze: 0.8.7g-1+squeeze1, Debian Sid: 0.8.7i-3, CentOS 6.0: 0.8.7i-2.el6) tried both from a local (192.168.1.xy) network and from a different data center so I don't think it is a network problem reinstalled the Cacti database, rerun the scripts to install my devices. Now different devices have that error when executing a snmpwalk or snmpgetnext command from the command line, it is always successful increasing the timeout to 20000 (20 seconds) and the retry count to 10 does not make a difference The cacti.log says: 04/14/2012 02:10:19 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] WARNING: SNMP GetNext Timeout for Host:'s0026.mydomain.de', and OID:'.1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0' 04/14/2012 02:10:20 PM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] WARNING: SNMP GetNext Timeout for Host:'s0026.mydomain.de', and OID:'.1.3' However, when executing snmpget or snmpget with that from the command line a proper response is returned immediately.

• 2008 Sever Randomly reboots.

  I'm out of ideas here. We have a 2008 Server that keeps rebooting 2-3 times a day at completely random times with an "Unexpected Shutdown" event. There are no Dumps, no events leading to it just like it loses power then comes back online. I ran a Diagnostic of the power supply and it has had continuous power for months. In addition, the temperature of the processors are maxing out at 40 degrees Celsius. Anyone have any ideas how to figure out why this is restarting all the time? This is a DMZed Web server so it doesn't do too much process wise. • Win2k8R2 / IIS 7.5 - users getting 503 response, no 503 error reported in logs

  I've got 2 web servers with mirrored content. There's a load balancer sitting in front of them. Starting yesterday we've been getting people complaining about 503 errors. i can't find any 503 errors in the IIS log file. However the server host is saying these errors are due to .Net errors in our website which are causing the app pool to recycle. They said if the app pool were not recycle, the accountname would instead be the folder where the website files are located. I checked the app pool settings - it's set to recycle every 29 hours. And the rapid fail protection is set to the default of 5 failures in 5 minutes. But i have not seen 5 failures in the event log in that short of a time span. Can anyone help me confirm if the 503 responses are indeed being generated by the app pools recycling? Or are these errors coming from somewhere else? My guess at the time was their load balancer was the one actually returning the 503 error. But that was just a guess.

Line 2 was output from database query select sysdate from dual; Line 3 was output from java code new Date() I have checked from shell date command that line 2 output conforms with OS time. The output of line 3 was mysterious. I don't know how it comes from Java VM.   I'm trying to sign the Java JDK 1.6u21 64-bit RPM on CentOS 5.5 for use with Spacewalk and I'm running into problems. It seems to sign okay, but then when I check the signature it seems to be missing the key I just used to sign it.   i'm trying to access the shares on a server. The credential box appears, and i enter in a correct username and password, and i get access denied. Which would seem to indicate that the username is correct, but the password is wrong. i've tried the password many times, uppercase, lowercase, on different user accounts, with and without prefixing the username with servername\username. What gives that i cannot access the server over file sharing, but i can access it over RDP?

• How do I install git/git-svn on RHEL5 with a custom perl install?

  I've had nothing but trouble trying to install Git on RHEL5. First I tried from source, but ran into several issues with installing the docs. There appeared to be missing libs and such for parsing xml that I couldn't figure out how to get installed and recognized. Then I tried using the EPEL yum repository and was able to install git and its docs but now git-svn is not working. It complains about not finding the perl modules Git.pm and SVN/Core.pm. When I set the GITPERLLIB environment variable to the location of those libs it seg faults. Some background: RHEL5 came with perl 5.8.8, but we wanted to use 5.10 so I installed that from source (to a custom location). Someone then symlinked the system perl binary to this newer version of Perl to make sure nobody uses the wrong version. Each developer also has their own build of Perl. So I'm wondering what's the best way to install Git on this system and have both the docs and git-svn working correctly for each user. • Windows cannot open directory with too long name created by Linux

  Hello! My laptop has two OSes: Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.10. A partition of Windows 7 of format NTFS is mounted in Ubuntu. In Ubuntu, I created a directory under somehow deep path and with a long name for itself, specifically, the name for that directory is "a set of size-measurable subsets ie sigma algebra". Now in Windows, I cannot open the directory, which I guess is because of the name is too long, nor can I rename it. I was wondering if there is some way to access that directory under Windows? Better without changing the directory if possible, but will have to if necessary. Thanks and regards! • Active Directory problems while trying to perfom compare operation

  I have CentOs 5.5 with Apache 2.2 and SVN installed. Also I have Windows 2003 R2 with Active Directory. I'm trying to authorize users via AD so each user have access to repo if he is a member of corespondent group in AD. • Lion MacBook Pro will not load webpages with DNS just after wake

  I'm working with a 2011 MacBook Pro running Lion (10.7.2), that after waking from sleep (i.e. opening the lid) takes an inordinately long amount of time (2-3 minutes or more) to get a usable internet connection. Upon waking, the wi-fi icon signifies it is negotiating a network connection, and completes one a few seconds later. At this point, network diagnostics will not show any issues, and everything in Network preferences looks as normal: I'm connected to the proper network, have the right IP address and gateway, and DNS settings are correct. However, any site accessed with a domain name (like http://www.google.com) in Safari will return the "You are not connected to the Internet." error. Accessing a site directly, say, with Google's 74.125.226.212, is successful. Yet, Network Diagnostics will insist that DNS is functioning properly. After a few minutes, the following lines will be printed to the Console log, and regular behavior will be restored. 11/18/11 8:11:31.288 PM airportd: _doAutoJoin: Already associated to “Wireless”. Bailing on auto-join. 11/18/11 8:11:32.000 PM kernel: en1: BSSID changed to 00:25:9c:63:91:bd This behavior occurs only when waking from sleep--not when turning wi-fi on and off. This problem also occurs when using a wired Ethernet connection. As per this thread, I have tried flushing the DNS cache and wiping the wireless network from memory (it's not a protected network). Neither have worked.

• Ubuntu 10.04 network manager issues

  I was using the default network manager to connect to my wi-fi network, but if the connection is dropped or router restarted the network manager wont reconnect automatically after i guess a couple of tries and just gives a pop-up to connect manually . To avoid this annoyance I installed WICD but though it does try to reconnect to the network after a drop in connection it is unable to resolve the ip address and i am left with an even bigger annoyance . 1. Is there a way to counter either of these issues ? 2. Something like a background process that will check network status periodically and then try to connect to a favored network ? • How to find the source of a cryptic event viewer log

  I'm looking at the eventviewer logs, and I see a bunch Error entries in the Application log. (Windows Server 2008 R1). There is an error written to the logs about every 4 seconds. I need to find out which application is causing these events, is there anyway to find this out? • Can't connect to wi-fi hotspot in Ubuntu 11.10

  I'm new to Ubuntu. I'm having a wireless network problem in Ubuntu 11.10. I made a hotspot using Connectify from a computer which is running Windows 7. I can access it in Windows 7 but not in Ubuntu 11.10. Every time I access it,I get a message "disconnected". I'm using msi fx 400 notebook with Intel Centrino wireless -N 1000 wireless card. • Failed to load Cairo

  We're running a Ubuntu Server VM with OpenCPU (that's an API for R). Unfortunately we're unable to get the Cairo R package to play, the error message (from within R) is as follows: unable to load shared object '/usr/lib/R/library/grDevices/libs//cairo.so': /usr/local/lib/libgmodule-2.0.so.0: undefined symbol: g_rec_mutex_lock 2: In png() : failed to load cairo DLL We've tried purging and reinstalling cairo and libcairo and we both tried building the Cairo R package from source as well as using a precompiled version from Michael Rutter's ppas (all seems to work without errors). Unfortunately none of us are real Ubuntu natives and thus we probably did some pretty amateur debugging. Any push in the right direction would be very appreciated. For example, we couldn't figure out how to reinstall whatever libgmodule refers to.
