I am moving to a new laptop with Ubuntu Lucid from an old laptop that has Ubuntu Karmic.
I want to look at the list of all the packages and selectively install them all on the new laptop.
What is the best method to go about it.
Thanks in advance.
I am trying to get old episodes of podcasts accessible through iTunes and on my iPod. However, when I add these episodes to the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder, they get automatically added, but to the wrong place - they are not getting classified as podcasts (despite their detailed info showing that they belong to the podcast genre). How can I get around this such that they get classified / filed as podcasts?

I've followed this guide: http://www.phamviet.net/2012/06/03/centos-6-2-compile-php-5-4-2-from-source/
It all works as it should, but when I'm done and I type 'service httpd restart' following by 'php --version', it still displays the old 5.1.6 PHP version.
This is 'uname -a' : Linux xxxxxx.com 2.6.32-042stab061.2 #1 SMP Fri Aug 24 09:07:21 MSK 2012 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
It's a VPS hosted in my main dedicated server (OpenVZ).
Not sure what else to say, but I appreciate any help :)
OS: CentOS 6
When opening a new monitor I am amazed that the VGA cable is always attached. Even with new high end monitors that include Display Port and DVI cables the old VGA cable is always attached while the others are just left in the box.
What is the reasoning behind attaching a cable in the first place and why the VGA cable in particular?
I have a Macbook, but it's slightly too old to use Mac OS X 10.6's trackpad Chinese input.
I have a Wacom tablet, but even though Mac OS X has had tablet character recognition since 10.2 and now knows Chinese characters, they're separate enough that it apparently can't put these two together and read Chinese characters I write on my Wacom.
But I'm sure somebody has a way to let me do this. What software do I need to let me write Japanese kanji on my Wacom tablet under Mac OS X?
I have a maintenance plan to do backups and cleanup of old data. It has three subplans, each with their own schedule. Can I set the schedule of subtask 2 to be "after subtask 1 is complete"?
I want to power something using the parallel port of on an old Dell Dimension 8200. How much current can be drawn from each of the 8 the data pins? I have pulled a maximum of 78mA/pin so far, but what is the upper limit? Can I short pins together to raise this limit?
I am using Windows XP. I am tired of looking at the folder icons in Windows XP. I changed the color depth to 256 colors and the folder icons in Windows Explorer changed to the flat - windows 95/98 style icons. I loved them!
is there a way to tell windows explorer to show those flat old style icons for folders? without going to 8-bit?
Note: I am okay with going down from 32-bit, but 8 is way too low to work with.
It used to be that when I went to Gmail when I didn't have Internet access, I went to the offline mode where I could still read old emails, etc. But now I can't access it at all. Solution?
Is it possible for a program to access another program's memory directly and read from (or write to) it, or to "inherit" the old contents of memory reclaimed from another program? (ie if it doesn't zero out memory before using it and just reads from unitialized memory directly)
Hi guys,
I have 2 servers and I just moved most of the shares from server1 (SBS 2003 server) to server2 (Server 2003 Standard).
However, in sharepoint there are a lot of links that refer to the old server by name, ie, \\server1\accounts.
How can I have the shares physically on the new (larger) server, while preserving these links and having them still work.
Cheers,
Sam
Hello. I have a friend who's put himself in that age-old position: His OS partition has turned out to be too small for his needs. He'd really like to be able to repartition his harddrive without formatting it. In the past Partition Magic would have leapt to mind, but apparently Symantec bought that in 2003 and never updated it (and then officially discontinued it).
Is there a "modern day" Partition Magic that every uses for desperate situations like this, that also works under Windows 7?
Thanks
Hello.
I've installed Windows Server 2008 and i need to share the wireless network.
In the old OS, the XP, i have the option to share the internet, but here in Windows Server 2008 i can find that option.
How can i solve this?
Thank you.
Hi all,
I just installed a Kingston 64 GB SSD into my laptop, replacing the old 80 GB 5400 RPM one. The drive starts up and works fine every other time. For example, if I'm running normally, and press "Restart", I get:
2100 Initialization error on HDD0.
I turn off the computer manually, restart, and...it boots into Ubuntu again. This happens every other time without fail...anyone know what the problem could be?
I have some very important files I want to backup before I reinstall my Ubuntu back to 9.04 from the 9.10 (its causing me all sorts of problems).
The files total size is small so im just going to copy them over to Dropbox. Im wondering, when i reinstall Ubuntu and copy them back will there be any issues re the permissions of those files because my old user account which created them and the new user Ill setup on the new install will be different?
I have outlook 2007 installed (12.0.6514.5000) on my work computer.
I just installed Bowie to allow integration with outlook and TFS.
Most of the features for that plugin are based on the Ribbon. But I don't have the ribbon. I have the old menu and toolbar structure.
How do I switch to the ribbon view?
I am looking for a Web interface to bind9, to edit zones, add records, etc, with user access privileges (not Webmin please!) but free and possibly open-source.
I have googled a lot, but I only found stalled projects, or very old ones, not updated after 2002 or so.
It would be great a nice Web2.0 UI, but at this point it's not crucial.
Thanks a lot!

A client exposed information regarding what will become a controversial website in the domain WhoIs after she purchased it from auction.
Is there any whois cache that will detect, save, and share the old whois information for that domain, after it has changed?
(It's a website to provide birth control in countries where it is banned, and she may receive death threats for the information shared on it. Obviously something she wishes to avoid.)
We have a medium sized network of around 200 nodes and are currently in the process of replacing old daisy chained switches with stack-able or chassis style switches. Right now our network is broken up via subnet; production, management, IP, etc each on a separate subnet. Does anyone have an opinion on whether creating Vlan's instead of subnets would be more beneficial? Our general goal is to prevent bottlenecks, separate traffic for security, and to manage traffic with more ease.
I have an old desktop sitting around I wanted to try making a server out of, but I don't want to pay to register a Domain Name. Is there a way I can host a website without a domain name, or to register a domain name for free? If I can't host a web page without a domain name, can I just access the files on the server through the internet some how without a domain name?
Thanks for any insight!
