• Is Sql Server 2008 R2 unsupported by Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007 R2?

  Hey all, I'm performing a test configuration of System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2, on a system prepared with Sql Server 2008 R2. Unfortunately, the Scom 2007 R2 prerequisites verification program seems to be detecting exact versions of Sql Server, and not simply a minimum version, like it claims: "System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 requires SQL Server 2005 Standard or Enterprise Edition with SP1 and above or SQL Server 2008 Standard or Enterprise edition with SP1 and above. Note: Operations Manager 2007 R2 does not support a 32-bit Operations Manager Operations database, Reporting Server data warehouse or Audit Collection database on a 64-bit operating system." I had hoped that this was just a helper tool that was assisting in getting me off the ground, but unfortunately it seems as if it's actually used as a gate for the installation to proceed. Has anyone encountered this? If so, is there a way to fool the installer into thinking that it has a proper version, or otherwise alert it to my valid configuration?

• Reinstalling Applications after Win 7 installation [closed]

  I'm preparing to upgrade to Win 7 and am trying to ensure that I will be able to reinstall all the relevant applications. Since most applications require product keys, I'm curious if the installation process for Win 7 preserves those keys in any way (say for Office 2007,...) or do I have to locate and reenter every key? Second, for appications that require a key and then check with their home server (Norton Internet Security, for example). Even if I have the key, how do I convince the server that I'm not trying to reuse an application that has a single use license? Thanks, --Don

• Sharepoint Foundation 2010 installation problems

  I'm having problems installing development machine for Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010. This is what I did so far on the same machine: Installed a clean Windows 7 x64 with 4GB of RAM without being part of any domain. Just a simple standalone machine. Enabled IIS related features as described here except IIS6 related ones (two of them) Installed SQL Server 2008 R2 Development Edition (DB Engine and Writer being enabled but not SQL Agent) Installed Visual Studio 2010 Premium Started installing Sharepoint Foundation 2010 with first extracting files, changing config to enable Windows 7 installation and then installed it as Server Farm (then Complete) to avoid installing SQL Express. Created a separate SPF_CONFIG local user with Logon on as a service right. Opened SPF Management Shell and run New-SPConfigurationDatabase so I am able to use a non-domain username (SPF_CONFIG that I created in the previous step) But all I get is this: The outcome after this error is: Database Sharepoint2010Config is created User SPF_CONFIG is added to SQL Server and attached to this newly created database as dbowner and checking SQL server security logins this user has following rights: dbcreator securityadmin public

  Hi, I want to implement a Application which gets values from CUCM resource. I am currently using the AXL snippet <firstname>FirstNameFilter</firstname><lastname>LastNameFilter</lastname> This will work as & between two filters. for example my filter is FirstNameFilter = sam* LastNameFilter = joy* this will return the entries which satisfies both the filters. But i want to filter in such a way that we need to or this filter like i need to get the users with First Name is sam* or last name = joy*. Whether anyone did such AXL programming? • Command line audio library manager for Linux

  Hi all Hear is my set-up, I have a Linux server that is running Music Player Demon, all the audio files are under a dir (/muzik) which is exported by NFS. So to add files to the MPD database, I just drop the files into the /muzik NFS share and up date the MPD db, so far so good, but I would like to keep the dir strucher belowe /muzik in sum sort of order. To achieve this I am using Amarok, wich a start on my laptop and then use the organise files command to sort the files in into a sensible dir strucher based on the tags in the files. Do you know of any command line utility that can do the same thing that I am using Amarok for so I can run it from cron on the server and automate the process? I hope that this make sense.

• Enterprise class storage best practices

  One thing that has always perplexed me is storage best practices. Filesystems brag about how they can be petabytes or exabytes in size. Yet, I do not know many sysadmins who are willing to let a single volume grow over several terrabytes. I do know the primary reason behind this is how long it would take to rebuild the array should a drive fail. The more drives in a single LUN, the longer this takes and the greater your risk of losing another drive while the rebuild is taking place. Then there's usage reasons. Admins will carve out a LUN based on how much space they think needs to be allocated to the project. It seems more practical to me for the LUN to be one large array and to use quotas. I understand this wouldn't satisfy every requirement (iSCSI), but I see a lot of NAS systems (NFS) managed this way. I also understand that the underlying volumes can be grown/shrunk as needed quite easily, but wouldn't it be less "risky" to use quotas rather than manipulating volumes and bringing possible data loss into the equation? There may be some other reasons I'm missing, so please enlighten me. Can we not expect filesystems to ever be so large? Are we waiting for the hardware to get faster to cut down on rebuild times?

  We've used Iron Mountain's LiveVault service but found that it was only good for file level backups. We liked how it backed up every 15 minutes. It doesn't support Exchange 2007-10 and the web interface was very poor. Who else is everyone using? The most notable names in online backup such as Mozy and Carbonite don't really seem suitable for larger companies. We have SQL, Exchange and Sharepoint servers and are looking to virtualize in the near future. Until then bare metal restore capability would be nice. We are currently using Backup Exec 12.5 but that can be so troublesome at times. We have about 2 TB of data. 1TB is archival data.

  Scenario I'm planning to setup a typical Head Office - Branch Office(s) Network Setup. there will be 25 branch offices in India of two will be overseas (one in US and the other in UK). All these will be connected via MPLS. Additional details: No of Concurrent users in each office is going to be 25 tranlating to 650 users The requirement is to provide "proxied" internet connectivity to the branch offices. How should I go about doing it? Plan A: Buying an internet leased line in the Head Office and distribute it through an internal proxy server to all the branches Plan B Buying separate internet lines for all the branches and setup individual proxies to all the branch offices.

  I am trying to install on a VM that is offline. I have downloaded eclipse. I have downloaded the android sdk and pointed to it in eclipse. I still cannot see any target platforms in order to create an android project. What am i missing? I need to set this up without using the android sdk/avd manager to download the platforms. Can anyone help me? I have been trying to figure this out for 3 days. Thanks.

• Several devices in Device Manager have Code 3 error

  One of our users' machines (Dell Optiplex 380 running Windows 7 32-bit) is having a weird driver issue. A bunch of devices have Error Code 3: The driver for this device might be corrupted, or your system may be running low on memory or other resources. (Code 3) The system isn't low on memory (only 1GB in use out of whatever the max for 32-bit is.) Here's a screenshot of the affected devices: I tried reinstalling the chipset and audio drivers to no avail. I have no idea what prompted it, and I'm not sure how the basic Windows Generic PnP Monitor driver could even be corrupted. What might be causing this error?

• python multiprocessing.Process.Manager not producing consistent results?

  I've written the following code to illustrate the problem I'm seeing. I'm trying to use a Process.Manager.list() to keep track of a list and increment random indices of that list. Each time there are 100 processes spawned, and each process increments a random index of the list by 1. Therefore, one would expect the SUM of the resulting list to be the same each time, correct? This was a full day event with various sessions on J2EE 6, Java Concurrency, NoSQL, MongoDB, Oracle 12c, Oracle ADF etc. It was an overwhelming response from students, auditorium was jam packed with 600+ LPU energetic students of B.Tech and MCA stream. Navein Juneja Sr. Director LPU gave the keynote and introduced the speakers of AIOUG and Delhi & NCR Java User Group (DaNJUG). Mr. Juneja explained about the LPU and its students. He explained how Oracle and Java is most used and accepted technologies in world. Rohit Dhand Additional Dean LPU came on stage and share about how his career started with Oracle databases. He encouraged students to learn these technologies and build their career. Satyendra Kumar vice-president AIOUG thanked LPU and their stuff for organizing such a good technical event and students for their overwhelming response.  He talked about the India Oracle group and its events at various geographical locations all over India. Jitendra Chittoda Co-Leader DaNJUG explained how to make a new Java User Groups (JUG), what are its benefits and how to promote it. He explained how the Indian JUGs are contributing to the different initiatives like Adopt-a-JSR and Adopt-OpenJDK. After the inaugural address event started with two different tracks one for Oracle Database and another for Java and its related technologies. • Mobile App Notifications in the Enterprise Space: UX Considerations

  Here is a really super website of UX patterns for Android: Android Patterns. I was particularly interested in the event-driven notification patterns (aka status bar notifications to developers). Android - unlike iOS (i.e., the iPhone) - offers a superior centralized notifications system for users.   (Figure copyright Android Patterns)   Research in the enterprise applications space shows how users on-the-go, prefer this approach, as: Users can manage their notification alerts centrally, across all media, apps and for device activity, and decide the order in which to deal with them, and when. Notifications, unlike messages in a dialog or information message in the UI, do not block a task flow (and we need to keep task completion to under three minutes). See the Anti-Patterns slideshare presentation on this blocking point too. These notifications must never interrupt a task flow by launching an activity from the background. Instead, the user can launch an activity from the notification. What users do need is the ability to filter this centralized approach, and to personalize the experience of which notifications are added, what the reminder is, ability to turn off, and so on. A related point concerning notifications is when used to provide users with a record of actions then you can lighten up on lengthy confirmation messages that pop up (toasts in the Android world) used when transactions or actions are sent for processing or into a workflow. Pretty much all the confirmation needs to say is the action is successful along with key data such as dollar amount, customer name, or whatever. I am a user of Android (Nexus S), BlackBerry (Curve), and iOS devices (iPhone 3GS and 4). In my opinion, the best notifications user experience for the enterprise user is offered by Android. Blackberry is good, but not as polished and way clunkier than Android’s. What you get on the iPhone, out of the box, is useless in the enterprise.   If you have been to OpenWorld in the past, you know it can be overwhelming or at least a bit "large." If this is your first time at OpenWorld, get ready! You are in for a big (or I should say HUGE) treat. The first thing you'll notice when you get to San Francisco is there are a lot of people, buses with "Oracle" posters, large exhibit halls filled with demos, games and tchotchkes from vendors with hot new solutions, and then there are the sessions. Yes, in fact there are over 2000 sessions. How can you possibly sort through 2000 sessions to find the best 20 or so for you? Which are the 1% for you?
