• Windows 8.1 and fingerprint readers

  Is there any build in UI for that kind of hardware like it exist in Modern UI for WiFi, Bluetooth, Broadband mobile and other common settings or I'm forced to use separate software (besides the obvious drivers for hardware)? The thing is that I have build-in fingerprint reader in my laptop and I have installed all necessary official drivers for it (and it looks like they are working fine, btw). But I did not find any UI settings where I could change Sign-in option from password/picture password/pin to fingerprint.

  I am unable to run psql with my normal Mac user account in Terminal session, although I can do it using the postgres service account). When I enter the command psql mydb and type my password, I get the following message: WARNING: password file "/Users/beh/.pgpass" has group or world access; permissions should be u=rw (0600) or less But I cannot find .pgpass. How do I set up and add users to my PostgreSQL 9.1 database on Mac OS X 10.6.8?

• Logon onto shared Windows account using individual passwords?

  In a networked WinXP environment, I have a computer-controlled device which I want to connect to the network, but allow various people to use. The computer must be left running and logged on at all times. My thought is to run the computer under a "shared account" which would allow each user to logon/unlock the screen using their own network password (i.e., the password for their personal account). Now when I try to open the locker, the dialogue box appears where I have to punch in the password, but it does not let me enter. The dialogue box keeps blinking and all of my important docs and lot of pictures are stored in that folder. Now how would one unlock the locked folder?

  how do I add external drupal modules to an ec2 server? Drupal interface wants me to provide ftp password, but amazon ec2 uses private key pair and not username/password (unless I enable that, which I don't want to) how would I install from a site like this http://drupal.org/project/restws if the automated way is not feasible, do I just have to upload the individual module files to a particular drupal folder via sftp?

  Hi Everyone, Is it possible to somehow setup an ssh server that doesn't require a username,password or cert to login? If that's not possible, if I were to give all customers the same public key, would each connection be encrypted individually? (i.e. user A coudn't decrypt the payload of user B's connection) I wish to provide access to a single program, which will prompt for a username and password. Encryption is essential though, and users must not be able to snoop in on each other Thanks

I'm on a mac osx 10.7.2 Processor 2.26 GHz intel core 2 due I downloaded: mysql-5.5.18-osx10.6-x86_64.dmg I'm now at the point of setting the root password and when I type in: sudo: mysql_secure_installation it asks me to enter my password, then it says: sudo: mysql_secure_installation: command not found Any help would be appreciated. • Automating telnet login and commands on a Mac

  Currently I do something like this: telnet 192.168.0.3 23 username password cd /dir/ programname -s -g dosomething I want to do this with one step, the coolest would be to compile a program for this using Automator, but i have no idea how to do that. "shell script" in Automator fails at telnet 192.168.0.3 23 saying "connection refused" of course: I had no chance to type in password and so on. Any ideas?

  I can't connect my 3G iphone to my home router. I added my MAC wifi address (followed those directions to locate it) to the filter of the router. My iphone wifi address appears on the allowed list. However, when I try to connect using my iphone, it shows wi-fi not connected, and the umbrella corporation comes up still locked and asks for a password. We don't have a password set up for our router access at home. I'm not real tech-y so speak plainly...thanks

  I'm not quite sure if this is possible or not, but I need to force a certain security group's users to have their passwords expire so they'll be forced to change them on next login. The reason for this is because I applied a FGPP (password policy) to this particular group in order to enforce strong passwords. Well, many users have really weak passwords and they won't be changed unless they're forced. Is there a way to do this without forcing everyone to a single password?

It's weird because it doesn't requires it every time...sometimes it will work (automatic shares through logon script) and sometimes it won't...lets the user in after 2-3 tries (wrong password errors) and the loads the share with the same pass... • How can I prevent Virtualmin from storing passwords in cleartext?

  I am really surprised at this behavior. In Virtualmin, I can see the password for any SSH user by clicking the "(Show..)" link next to the "Password ( ) Leave unchanged" option in a variety of locations. I have found that the passwords for all users including users with SSH access are stored in cleartext files in /etc/webmin/... This seems like an unnecessary risk! How can I prevent Virtualmin from storing passwords in this manner?

  Besides tacking off the cmos battery, what else can I do In order to reset my BIOS to default? ATM bios access is password protected and I don't know the password anymore. On regular PC stations, there was a jumper, but where is that on a laptop mobo? Do you know any other way of resetting the bios on a laptop?

I've created a directory in /var/ftp and then I bind this to the directory that I wish to limit access to.   I'm currently generating documentation on one machine, and publishing it to a web server using the following commands in a script: net use "\\someShare" PASSWORD /user:username del /S /Q "\\someShare" xcopy /E /Y Documentation\html\* "\\someShare\" However, it feels like a really bad idea to have a password as plain text in the script, so I'm looking for alternatives to my current solution. Ideas? I definitely would appreciate a solution that uses some kind of access control, as many different people should be allowed to publish their own documentation to the web server, but not mess with each other's docs.

• TrueCrypt System Favorite Volume doesn't mount automatically on boot

  I've encrypted my system partition using TrueCrypt and I've read that I can mount my encrypted data partition (TrueCrypt volume) on boot by making it a "System Favorite" and giving it the same password as the system partition. However it doesn't work and I have to mount it manually every time. See this example. I've tried enabling "Cache pre-boot authentication password in driver memory (for mounting of non-system volumes)" in System - Settings, but that didn't change anything either. Any ideas?

  I have a Windows share mounted on a Linux server (RHEL4) using a mount command like this: mount -t smbfs //server_ip/foldername /servername/foldername -o username=USERNAME,password=PASSWORD -o gid=users,dmask=777,fmask=777,rw,noatime It stays working for weeks at a time but sometimes stops working, at which time I unmount it and mount it again. This works but the share would have been unavailable for some time before I noticed it in log files. Is there some way that the share can be automatically remounted when it fails?

Since the data is backed up into a flash drive, i suggested nuking using DBAN and reinstalling OS. To complicate matters further, his CD drive doesn't work.
