• curl FTPS with client certificate to a vsftpd

  I'd like to authenticate FTP clients either via username+password or a client certificate. Only FTPS is allowed. User/password works, but while testing with curl (I don't have another option) and a client certificate, I need to pass a user.   Hello, I'm trying to make a script to authenticate in hudson using wget and store the authentication cookie.   Hello, I am getting the following error when trying to update an object using nhibernate. I am attempting to update a field which is a foreign key. Any thoughts why I might be getting this error?   A client of mine decided to go ahead and move from a self-signed certificate to a commercial one ("GoDaddy Standard SSL"). The first service I wanted to move to the commercial SSL cert was Webmin/Usermin... • apache renew ssl not working [on hold]

  Downloaded a new ssl cert from go daddy and installed the cert on apache2 server put the cert in /etc/ssl/certs/ folder put the gd_bundle.crt in the /etc/ssl/ folder private key is in /etc/ssl/private/private.key I just replaced the original files with the new files, did not replace the private key. I restarted the server but the website is still showing old certificated date.   Hello. I'm trying to setup vsftpd on Fedora 12. I need to require use of FTPS, and for now need to use a self-signed SSL certificate. I managed to get the vsftpd service running and to connect as my user. I can list the home directory, but as soon as I try to list another directory, download or upload a file, I get this error: No available certificate or key corresponds to the SSL cipher suites which are enabled. And the xfer log is empty. I've been Googling it for a while now, but still can't understand the problem. Here's how I installed vsftpd: su yum install vsftpd chkconfig vsftpd on service vsftpd start I tried to generate the certificate in two ways. • Redmine subversion won't ignore certificate error even if told

  I have set up a copy of Redmine through the Bitnami Redmine Stack and am having trouble accessing a remote SVN repository through https. The trouble seems to be related to the fact that I don't have a signed certificate, and the certificate provided doesn't match the host name (I am accessing the same server through a number of host names). I am new to Ruby, Mongrel, Rails and Redmine. Following the advice in this forum thread, I changed the path Redmine uses to invoke the svn client in \apps\redmine\lib\ redmine\scm\adapters\subversion_adapter.rb from SVN_BIN = "svn" to SVN_BIN = "svn --trust-server-cert --non-interactive --config-dir c:/user/temp" I was hoping that the --trust-server-cert option would fix the certificate problem. However, I am still getting the following error message in mongrel.log: svn: OPTIONS of 'https://server.xyz:8443/svn/reponame': Server certificate verification failed: certificate issued for a different hostname, issuer is not trusted (https://server.xyz:8443) Does anybody know what to do about this? Additional info: I re-started the mongrel service after each change I am sure the configuration change has taken effect because subversion has created a full configuration directory in c:\user\temp I can access the remote repository using command line svn no problem The remote repository runs on a Windows box with VisualSVN

  I have a VPS running Windows Web Server 2008 R2. I'm able to connect using Remote Desktop from my home PC (Windows 7), personal laptop (Windows 7), and work laptop (Windows XP). However, I cannot connect from my work PC (Windows 7). • Does any Certificate Authority support both SAN and wildcards?

  My basic quandry is that wildcard certificates don't support subdomains of subdomains, nor do they help with alternate domain names. Basically, if my CN is example.com, I want a Subject Alternative Name field that looks roughly like so: DNS:example.com DNS*.example.com DNS:*.beta.example.com DNS:example.net DNS:*.example.net DNS:*.beta.example.net Using a self-signed cert, I verified that the browsers will work just fine with this. Unfortunately, none of the Certificate Authorities that I looked into (Thawte, GoDaddy, Verisign, Digicert) seemed to support both wildcard certs and Subject Alternative Name (sometimes referred to as "Multiple Domain UCC"). I even called up GoDaddy tech support to confirm. Is there a CA (trusted by 99% of browsers) that supports wildcards for the Subject Alternative Name? One little restriction: I'm saddled with Amazon EC2's single Elastic IP per instance limitation. Here are what I see as my backup plans: set up three extra EC2 instances, each configured for a different IP address and cert, and nginx reverse proxy from three of them into the app server(s) introduces latency(?), and even the cheapest EC2 instance isn't that cheap instead of dedicated reverse proxy instances, setup the four or more almost identical EC2 app servers, with nginx using the port to determine which cert to deliver, and use haproxy to distribute the traffic amongst themselves. complicated to configure and manage? I'm not using the cheapest EC2 instance type for my app servers. If I don't need 4+ app servers for the load, it raises the cost. set up an external server (outside of EC2) that doesn't have EC2's Elastic IP address restrictions, setup all of the alternate IP addresses and certificates on that server, and nginx reverse proxy from that server into the EC2 app servers. extra IP addresses are almost free (still need to pay for the server of course), but don't come with the robust "elasticity" that Amazon's Elastic IPs provide. even more latency than in the first scenario. Are these approaches crazy or reasonable? Do you have another one to suggest?

• Using ASP.NET MVC 2 with Ninject 2 from scratch

  I just did File - New Project last night on a new project. Ah, the smell of green fields. I am using the just released ASP.NET MVC 2 (i.e. no preview or release candidate, the real thing), and thought I'd get off to a good start using Ninject 2 (also released version) with the MVC extensions. I downloaded the MVC extensions project, opened it in VS2008Sp1, built it in release mode, and then went into the mvc2\build\release folder and copied Ninject.dll and Ninject.Web.Mvc.dll from there to the Libraries folder on my project (so that I can lug them around in source control and always have the right version everywhere). I didn't include the corresponding .xml files - should I? Do they just provide intellisense, or some other function? Not a big deal I believe. Anyhoo, I followed the most up-to-date advice I could find; I referenced the DLLs in my MVC2 project, then went to work on Global.asax.cs. First I made it inherit from NinjectHttpApplication. I removed the Application_Start() method, and overrode OnApplicationStarted() instead. Here is that method: protected override void OnApplicationStarted() { base.OnApplicationStarted(); AreaRegistration.RegisterAllAreas(); RegisterRoutes(RouteTable.Routes); // RegisterAllControllersIn(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); } And I also followed the advice of VS and implemented the CreateKernel method: protected override Ninject.IKernel CreateKernel() { // RegisterAllControllersIn(Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); return new StandardKernel(); } That is all. No other modifications to the project. You'll notice that the RegisterAllControllersIn() method is commented out in two places above. I've figured I can run it in three different combinations, all with their funky side effects; Running it like above. I am then presented with the standard "Welcome to ASP.NET MVC" page in all its' glory. However, after this page is displayed correctly in the browser, VS shows me an exception that was thrown. It throws in NinjectControllerFactory.GetControllerInstance(), which was called with a NULL value in the controllerType parameter. Notice that this happens after the /Home page is rendered - I have no idea why it is called again, and by using breakpoints I've already determined that GetControllerInstance() has been successfully called for the HomeController. Why this new call with controllerType as null? I really have no idea. Pressing F5 at this time takes me back to the browser, no complaints there. Uncommenting the RegisterAllControllersIn() method in CreateKernel() This is where stuff is really starting to get funky. Now I get a 404 error. Some times I have also gotten an ArgumentNullException on the RegisterAllControllersIn() line, but that is pretty rare, and I have not been able to reproduce it. Uncommenting the RegisterAllControllers() method in OnApplicationStarted() (And putting the comment back on the one in CreateKernel()) Results in behavior that seems exactly like that in point 1. So to keep from going on forever - is there an exact step-by-step guide on how to set up an MVC 2 project with Ninject 2 (both non-beta release versions) to get the controllers provided by Ninject? Of course I will then start providing some actual stuff for injection (like ISession objects and repositories, loggers etc), but I thought I'd get this working first. • Why do I have untrusted certificates for Google, Yahoo, Mozilla and others?

  In the HTTPS/SSL section of chrome://chrome/settings, I see the following: What does this mean, and is there something wrong? I have a basic understanding of SSL/TLS - I'm not claiming to be completely familiar, but I'm fairly confident I know my way around it - but I don't understand why I have certificates installed on my machine specifically for these sites. From my understanding, I should have the certificates for Certificate Authorities, and any site I visit and use SSL/TLS should have a certificate signed by one of these trusted CAs for me to trust the site. My worry is that if someone has maliciously installed a certificate for these sites on my machine, they could perform a DNS spoofing attack (or a number of other attacks) to hijack my connection to my email account without me knowing, and as they've got the private counterpart to the certificate on my machine, decrypt the communication. NB: I'm also aware that CA certificates aren't just within Chromium and are used system wide as part of libssl - they're stored in /etc/ssl/certs. What I'd like to know is: Is this correct? - The big red boxes make me think no Is this malicious or benign? What can I do to resolve this problem? (If indeed it is a problem) Thanks :)

  Scenario: blank win2008 r2 install the goal was to have a couple of sites running with isolated pool and dedicated users A new folder for a new website - c:\web\siteA\wwwroot, with the app (asp.net) deployed there in the /bin folder created a user named "appuser" and added it to the IIS_USERS group gave the website folder read and execute permissions for IIS_USERS and the appuser created the IIS site. set the app=pool identity to the appuser now I'm getting YSOD telling me that the trust-level is too low - SecurityException: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers Added <trust level="Full" /> on the web-config, did not help changing the app-pool user to Administrator makes the site run Setting "anonymous user identity" to either IUSR or the app pool identity makes no difference any idea? is there a "step by step" howto guide for setting up users for isolated app pools on IIS7.5?

• Unable to install PEM/pkcs12 created by gnutls to Cisco ASA

  I've been pulling some hair out trying to figure out why cisco devices don't like my certificates. My primary need is to get a trustpoint set up with CA,cert,key on the ASA for VPN systems, however I'm having the same issues on my IOS devices. I created a pkcs12 with openssl a few months ago that imported with no issues, but now that I'm getting ready to move this lab to production I'm using gnutls certtool as I found it adds alt_dns and ip_address fields properly to the certificate, (which cost me a few more hairs trying to get to work with openssl's ca tool) I'm including the current test certs below, don't worry I'm not using these in production ;) The maddening thing is that after I thought gnutls was generating certs incorrectly, I tried making a pkcs12 for a printserver and it imported with no issues. Here's my command flow for creating these certs: certtool --generate-privkey --disable-quick-random --outfile nn-ca.key certtool --generate-self-signed --load-privkey nn-ca.key --outfile nn-ca.crt certtool --generate-privkey --disable-quick-random --outfile nn-g0.key certtool --generate-certificate --load-privkey nn-g0.key --outfile nn-g0.crt --load-ca-privkey nn-ca.key --load-ca-certificate nn-ca.crt openssl pkcs12 -export -certfile nn-ca.crt -in nn-g0.crt -inkey nn-g0.key -out nn-g0.p12 openssl enc -base64 -in nn-g0.p12 -out nn-g0.base64.p12 The password for the attatched pkcs12 is "ciscohelp" without quotes. • Sql 2008 r2 DEV install failed

  I am trying to install Sql 2008 r2 DEVeloper on Windows 2008 STD. It previously had Sql 2008 Enterprise installed. I first uninstalled SQL 2008. I think uninstall still leaves some crap in registery, and in Program files. Installation fails in the last step of the process - installation, about couple of minutes into it. Can't insert picture for you because serverfault does not allow me to do so. But it basically it: Error message: "Installation failed" I re-installed SQL 2008 Enterprise on this box and we are not going to go to R2 on older servers that previously had SQL 2005 or SQL 2008 on it. Looking at Windows log: Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\SQLServer2008R2\x64\Microsoft.SqlServer.Configuration.SqlServer_ConfigExtension.dll". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC80.CRT,processorArchitecture="amd64",publicKeyToken="1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b",type="win32",version="8.0.50727.4027" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.

• Backup, Migrate or Clone Failing CentOS 4 (LVM)

  Hello there, I've been running a BlueQuartz CentOS 4 system (Nuonce.net distro) for a few years now and although the hard drive (Deskstar) has always been a bit noisy, on a few recent occasions I've heard it having trouble spinning up. Basically, I want to clone this drive to a similar sized one (80 Gig). I've spent many hours reading upon dd, dd_rescue, rsync, clonezilla and LVM mirroring yet the sheer number of options and nightmarish accounts has left me frozen - unable to make an informed decision as to how to start. I've made a few attempts. dd failed after about 2 hours, as, although the drives appeared to be identical on the surface (ATA Seagate Barracudas, Thai not Chinese), the destination drive is slightly smaller. My most recent attempt involved using a Debian CD to format the new drive and then rsync-ing everything over and editing the new drive's grub and fstab to reflect the changes. No joy here either as I hadn't chosen LVM when partitioning the destination drive and it wouldn't boot. As you can probably tell, I'm out of my depth here and a panic-invoking mixture of caution and frustration has prompted me to sign up here. The server itself, although not strictly a production environment, has a very specific installation of Festival, LAME and ffMpeg and provides the back-end for a Text-to-Speech jQuery plugin that I've built over the last 2 years. I'm also planning to rebuild the whole TTS system on Debian as the existing CentOS system still has PHP4 etc. For now though, I'd really like to just shift everything over to a new drive. As this is my first post, please feel free to lay any house rules on me that I might've overlooked; I've been hovering around StackOverflow for a while now but have only just signed up. Many thanks.

• SQL CLR not properly enabling

  We have a SQL server running SQL 2005 Workgroup 64 bit (9.0.4273), on Windows 2003 server 64 bit. We have run sp_configure and reconfigured the server which indicates that the clr is now enabled. exec sp_configure 'clr enabled', '1' go reconfigure go However, when trying to call CREATE ASSEMBLY the server completely dies on us and we have to do a full reboot of the machine. A little more diagnostic information, even though clr enabled is set to 1 and we have rebooted the full server, running the following statement select * from sys.dm_clr_properties returns directory version state locked CLR version with mscoree which is what it says when the CLR is not enabled on another machine. On a correctly enabled machine (after reboot) this function reads directory C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\ version v2.0.50727 state CLR is initialized

• Motherboard on, but nothing will start

  I'll try and be as clear as possible. Recently I purchased a barebones kit for my first attempt at a full PC assembly. I've gone through and connected all the parts correctly based on numerous examples that confirm everything is connected correctly. The motherboard and the video card are receiving power based on the fact that the motherboard's power LED is on and the video card has some LEDs on. Nothing else in the computer will come on when pressing the power button on the case. No fans, no hard drive, no CPU fan. Not even for a split second. I also receive no beeping noise from the speaker connected to the motherboard. I've also tried swapping the reset and power connectors from the front of the case to no luck.
