  • JPA : Add and remove operations on lazily initialized collection behaviour ?

    - by Albert Kam
    Hello, im currently trying out JPA 2 and using Hibernate 3.6.x as the engine. I have an entity of ReceivingGood that contains a List of ReceivingGoodDetail, and has a bidirectional relation. Some related codes for each entity follows : ReceivingGood.java @OneToMany(mappedBy="receivingGood", targetEntity=ReceivingGoodDetail.class, fetch=FetchType.LAZY, cascade = CascadeType.ALL) private List<ReceivingGoodDetail> details = new ArrayList<ReceivingGoodDetail>(); public void addReceivingGoodDetail(ReceivingGoodDetail receivingGoodDetail) { receivingGoodDetail.setReceivingGood(this); } void internalAddReceivingGoodDetail(ReceivingGoodDetail receivingGoodDetail) { this.details.add(receivingGoodDetail); } public void removeReceivingGoodDetail(ReceivingGoodDetail receivingGoodDetail) { receivingGoodDetail.setReceivingGood(null); } void internalRemoveReceivingGoodDetail(ReceivingGoodDetail receivingGoodDetail) { this.details.remove(receivingGoodDetail); } @ManyToOne @JoinColumn(name = "receivinggood_id") private ReceivingGood receivingGood; ReceivingGoodDetail.java : public void setReceivingGood(ReceivingGood receivingGood) { if (this.receivingGood != null) { this.receivingGood.internalRemoveReceivingGoodDetail(this); } this.receivingGood = receivingGood; if (receivingGood != null) { receivingGood.internalAddReceivingGoodDetail(this); } } In my experiements with both of these entities, both adding the detail to the receivingGood's collection, and even removing the detail from the receivingGood's collection, will trigger a query to fill the collection before doing the add or remove. This assumption is based on my experiments that i will paste below. My concern is that : is it ok to do changes on only a little bit of records on the collection, and the engine has to query all of the details belonging to the collection ? What if the collection would have to be filled with 1000 records when i just want to edit a single record ? Here are my experiments with the output as the comment above each method : /* Hibernate: select receivingg0_.id as id9_14_, receivingg0_.creationDate as creation2_9_14_, ... too long Hibernate: select receivingg0_.id as id10_20_, receivingg0_.creationDate as creation2_10_20_, ... too long removing existing detail from lazy collection Hibernate: select details0_.receivinggood_id as receivi13_9_8_, details0_.id as id8_, details0_.id as id10_7_, details0_.creationDate as creation2_10_7_, details0_.modificationDate as modifica3_10_7_, details0_.usercreate_id as usercreate10_10_7_, details0_.usermodify_id as usermodify11_10_7_, details0_.version as version10_7_, details0_.buyQuantity as buyQuant5_10_7_, details0_.buyUnit as buyUnit10_7_, details0_.internalQuantity as internal7_10_7_, details0_.internalUnit as internal8_10_7_, details0_.product_id as product12_10_7_, details0_.receivinggood_id as receivi13_10_7_, details0_.supplierLotNumber as supplier9_10_7_, user1_.id as id2_0_, user1_.creationDate as creation2_2_0_, user1_.modificationDate as modifica3_2_0_, user1_.usercreate_id as usercreate6_2_0_, user1_.usermodify_id as usermodify7_2_0_, user1_.version as version2_0_, user1_.name as name2_0_, user2_.id as id2_1_, user2_.creationDate as creation2_2_1_, user2_.modificationDate as modifica3_2_1_, user2_.usercreate_id as usercreate6_2_1_, user2_.usermodify_id as usermodify7_2_1_, user2_.version as version2_1_, user2_.name as name2_1_, user3_.id as id2_2_, user3_.creationDate as creation2_2_2_, user3_.modificationDate as modifica3_2_2_, user3_.usercreate_id as usercreate6_2_2_, user3_.usermodify_id as usermodify7_2_2_, user3_.version as version2_2_, user3_.name as name2_2_, user4_.id as id2_3_, user4_.creationDate as creation2_2_3_, user4_.modificationDate as modifica3_2_3_, user4_.usercreate_id as usercreate6_2_3_, user4_.usermodify_id as usermodify7_2_3_, user4_.version as version2_3_, user4_.name as name2_3_, product5_.id as id0_4_, product5_.creationDate as creation2_0_4_, product5_.modificationDate as modifica3_0_4_, product5_.usercreate_id as usercreate7_0_4_, product5_.usermodify_id as usermodify8_0_4_, product5_.version as version0_4_, product5_.code as code0_4_, product5_.name as name0_4_, user6_.id as id2_5_, user6_.creationDate as creation2_2_5_, user6_.modificationDate as modifica3_2_5_, user6_.usercreate_id as usercreate6_2_5_, user6_.usermodify_id as usermodify7_2_5_, user6_.version as version2_5_, user6_.name as name2_5_, user7_.id as id2_6_, user7_.creationDate as creation2_2_6_, user7_.modificationDate as modifica3_2_6_, user7_.usercreate_id as usercreate6_2_6_, user7_.usermodify_id as usermodify7_2_6_, user7_.version as version2_6_, user7_.name as name2_6_ from ReceivingGoodDetail details0_ left outer join COMMON_USER user1_ on details0_.usercreate_id=user1_.id left outer join COMMON_USER user2_ on user1_.usercreate_id=user2_.id left outer join COMMON_USER user3_ on user2_.usermodify_id=user3_.id left outer join COMMON_USER user4_ on details0_.usermodify_id=user4_.id left outer join Product product5_ on details0_.product_id=product5_.id left outer join COMMON_USER user6_ on product5_.usercreate_id=user6_.id left outer join COMMON_USER user7_ on product5_.usermodify_id=user7_.id where details0_.receivinggood_id=? after removing try selecting the size : 4 after removing, now flushing Hibernate: update ReceivingGood set creationDate=?, modificationDate=?, usercreate_id=?, usermodify_id=?, version=?, purchaseorder_id=?, supplier_id=?, transactionDate=?, transactionNumber=?, transactionType=?, transactionYearMonth=?, warehouse_id=? where id=? and version=?   • How to select records as columns in SQL

    - by Leigh
    Hi, I have two tables: tblSizes and tblColors. tblColors has columns called ColorName, ColorPrice and SizeID. There is one size to multiple colors. I need to write a query to select the size and all the colors (as columns) for a that size with the price of each size in its respective column. The colors must be returned as columns, for instance: SizeID : Width : Height : Red : Green : Blue 1---------220-----220----£15----£20-----£29 Hope this makes sense Thank you

  • Getting RGB values for each pixel from a 24bpp Bitmap in C

    - by seven
    Hello, i want to read the RGB values for each pixel from a .bmp file , so i can convert the bmp into a format suitable for gba . so i need to get just the RGB for each pixel and then write this information to a file. i am trying to use the windows.h structures : typedef struct { char signature[2]; unsigned int fileSize; unsigned int reserved; unsigned int offset; }BmpHeader; typedef struct { unsigned int headerSize; unsigned int width; unsigned int height; unsigned short planeCount; unsigned short bitDepth; unsigned int compression; unsigned int compressedImageSize; unsigned int horizontalResolution; unsigned int verticalResolution; unsigned int numColors; unsigned int importantColors; }BmpImageInfo; typedef struct { unsigned char blue; unsigned char green; unsigned char red; unsigned char reserved; }Rgb; typedef struct { BmpHeader header; BmpImageInfo info; Rgb colors[256]; unsigned short image[1]; }BmpFile; but i only need RGB struct. So lets say i read "in.bmp": FILE *inFile, *outFile; inFile = fopen("C://in.bmp", "rb"); Rgb Palette[256]; for(i=0;i<256;i++) { fread(&Palette[i],sizeof(Rgb),1,inFile); } fclose(inFile); is this correct ? how do i write only the RGB information to a file ? can anyone please give me some information please . Thank you.

  • Null-free "maps": Is a callback solution slower than tryGet()?

    - by David Moles
    In comments to "How to implement List, Set, and Map in null free design?", Steven Sudit and I got into a discussion about using a callback, with handlers for "found" and "not found" situations, vs. a tryGet() method, taking an out parameter and returning a boolean indicating whether the out parameter had been populated. Steven maintained that the callback approach was more complex and almost certain to be slower; I maintained that the complexity was no greater and the performance at worst the same. But code speaks louder than words, so I thought I'd implement both and see what I got. The original question was fairly theoretical with regard to language ("And for argument sake, let's say this language don't even have null") -- I've used Java here because that's what I've got handy. Java doesn't have out parameters, but it doesn't have first-class functions either, so style-wise, it should suck equally for both approaches. (Digression: As far as complexity goes: I like the callback design because it inherently forces the user of the API to handle both cases, whereas the tryGet() design requires callers to perform their own boilerplate conditional check, which they could forget or get wrong. But having now implemented both, I can see why the tryGet() design looks simpler, at least in the short term.) First, the callback example: class CallbackMap<K, V> { private final Map<K, V> backingMap; public CallbackMap(Map<K, V> backingMap) { this.backingMap = backingMap; } void lookup(K key, Callback<K, V> handler) { V val = backingMap.get(key); if (val == null) { handler.handleMissing(key); } else { handler.handleFound(key, val); } } } interface Callback<K, V> { void handleFound(K key, V value); void handleMissing(K key); } class CallbackExample { private final Map<String, String> map; private final List<String> found; private final List<String> missing; private Callback<String, String> handler; public CallbackExample(Map<String, String> map) { this.map = map; found = new ArrayList<String>(map.size()); missing = new ArrayList<String>(map.size()); handler = new Callback<String, String>() { public void handleFound(String key, String value) { found.add(key + ": " + value); } public void handleMissing(String key) { missing.add(key); } }; } void test() { CallbackMap<String, String> cbMap = new CallbackMap<String, String>(map); for (int i = 0, count = map.size(); i < count; i++) { String key = "key" + i; cbMap.lookup(key, handler); } System.out.println(found.size() + " found"); System.out.println(missing.size() + " missing"); } } Now, the tryGet() example -- as best I understand the pattern (and I might well be wrong): class TryGetMap<K, V> { private final Map<K, V> backingMap; public TryGetMap(Map<K, V> backingMap) { this.backingMap = backingMap; } boolean tryGet(K key, OutParameter<V> valueParam) { V val = backingMap.get(key); if (val == null) { return false; } valueParam.value = val; return true; } } class OutParameter<V> { V value; } class TryGetExample { private final Map<String, String> map; private final List<String> found; private final List<String> missing; public TryGetExample(Map<String, String> map) { this.map = map; found = new ArrayList<String>(map.size()); missing = new ArrayList<String>(map.size()); } void test() { TryGetMap<String, String> tgMap = new TryGetMap<String, String>(map); for (int i = 0, count = map.size(); i < count; i++) { String key = "key" + i; OutParameter<String> out = new OutParameter<String>(); if (tgMap.tryGet(key, out)) { found.add(key + ": " + out.value); } else { missing.add(key); } } System.out.println(found.size() + " found"); System.out.println(missing.size() + " missing"); } } And finally, the performance test code: public static void main(String[] args) { int size = 200000; Map<String, String> map = new HashMap<String, String>(); for (int i = 0; i < size; i++) { String val = (i % 5 == 0) ? null : "value" + i; map.put("key" + i, val); } long totalCallback = 0; long totalTryGet = 0; int iterations = 20; for (int i = 0; i < iterations; i++) { { TryGetExample tryGet = new TryGetExample(map); long tryGetStart = System.currentTimeMillis(); tryGet.test(); totalTryGet += (System.currentTimeMillis() - tryGetStart); } System.gc(); { CallbackExample callback = new CallbackExample(map); long callbackStart = System.currentTimeMillis(); callback.test(); totalCallback += (System.currentTimeMillis() - callbackStart); } System.gc(); } System.out.println("Avg. callback: " + (totalCallback / iterations)); System.out.println("Avg. tryGet(): " + (totalTryGet / iterations)); } On my first attempt, I got 50% worse performance for callback than for tryGet(), which really surprised me. But, on a hunch, I added some garbage collection, and the performance penalty vanished. This fits with my instinct, which is that we're basically talking about taking the same number of method calls, conditional checks, etc. and rearranging them. But then, I wrote the code, so I might well have written a suboptimal or subconsicously penalized tryGet() implementation. Thoughts?

  • How can I prevent segmentation faults in my program?

    - by worlds-apart89
    I have a C assignment. It is a lot longer than the code shown below, and we are given the function prototypes and instructions only. I have done my best at writing code, but I am stuck with segmentation faults. When I compile and run the program below on Linux, at "735 NaN" it will terminate, indicating a segfault occurred. Why? What am I doing wrong? Basically, the program does not let me access table-list_array[735]-value and table-list_array[735]-key. This is of course the first segfault. There might be more following index 735. #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> typedef struct list_node list_node_t; struct list_node { char *key; int value; list_node_t *next; }; typedef struct count_table count_table_t; struct count_table { int size; list_node_t **list_array; }; count_table_t* table_allocate(int size) { count_table_t *ptr = malloc(sizeof(count_table_t)); ptr->size = size; list_node_t *nodes[size]; int k; for(k=0; k<size; k++){ nodes[k] = NULL; } ptr->list_array = nodes; return ptr; } void table_addvalue(count_table_t *table) { int i; for(i=0; i<table->size; i++) { table->list_array[i] = malloc(sizeof(list_node_t)); table->list_array[i]->value = i; table->list_array[i]->key = "NaN"; table->list_array[i]->next = NULL; } } int main() { count_table_t *table = table_allocate(1000); table_addvalue(table); int i; for(i=0; i<table->size; i++) printf("%d %s\n", table->list_array[i]->value, table->list_array[i]->key); return 0; }

  • bad file descriptor with close() socket (c++)

    - by user321246
    hi everybody! I'm running out of file descriptors when my program can't connect another host. The close() system call doesn't work, the number of open sockets increases. I can se it with cat /proc/sys/fs/file-nr Print from console: connect: No route to host close: Bad file descriptor connect: No route to host close: Bad file descriptor .. Code: #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <sys/socket.h> #include <netinet/in.h> #include <netdb.h> #include <string.h> #include <iostream> using namespace std; #define PORT 1238 #define MESSAGE "Yow!!! • Writing a managed wrapper for unmanaged (C++) code - custom types/structs

    - by Bobby
    faacEncConfigurationPtr FAACAPI faacEncGetCurrentConfiguration( faacEncHandle hEncoder); I'm trying to come up with a simple wrapper for this C++ library; I've never done more than very simple p/invoke interop before - like one function call with primitive arguments. So, given the above C++ function, for example, what should I do to deal with the return type, and parameter? FAACAPI is defined as: #define FAACAPI __stdcall faacEncConfigurationPtr is defined: typedef struct faacEncConfiguration { int version; char *name; char *copyright; unsigned int mpegVersion; unsigned long bitRate; unsigned int inputFormat; int shortctl; psymodellist_t *psymodellist; int channel_map[64]; } faacEncConfiguration, *faacEncConfigurationPtr; AFAIK this means that the return type of the function is a reference to this struct? And faacEncHandle is: typedef struct { unsigned int numChannels; unsigned long sampleRate; ... SR_INFO *srInfo; double *sampleBuff[MAX_CHANNELS]; ... double *freqBuff[MAX_CHANNELS]; double *overlapBuff[MAX_CHANNELS]; double *msSpectrum[MAX_CHANNELS]; CoderInfo coderInfo[MAX_CHANNELS]; ChannelInfo channelInfo[MAX_CHANNELS]; PsyInfo psyInfo[MAX_CHANNELS]; GlobalPsyInfo gpsyInfo; faacEncConfiguration config; psymodel_t *psymodel; /* quantizer specific config */ AACQuantCfg aacquantCfg; /* FFT Tables */ FFT_Tables fft_tables; int bitDiff; } faacEncStruct, *faacEncHandle; So within that struct we see a lot of other types... hmm. Essentially, I'm trying to figure out how to deal with these types in my managed wrapper? Do I need to create versions of these types/structs, in C#? Something like this: [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] struct faacEncConfiguration { uint useTns; ulong bitRate; ... } If so then can the runtime automatically "map" these objects onto eachother? And, would I have to create these "mapped" types for all the types in these return types/parameter type hierarchies, all the way down until I get to all primitives? I know this is a broad topic, any advice on getting up-to-speed quickly on what I need to learn to make this happen would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Every time the user types something and goes onto a new line, I call [self setNeedsDisplay]; and it redraws the code. But when the view starts to get long - around 1000 height, it has very noticeable lag. How can i make this code more efficient? Can i take a line of pixels and make it just repeat that, or stretch it, all the way down?

  • Specializing a template on a lambda in C++0x

    - by Tony A.
    I've written a traits class that lets me extract information about the arguments and type of a function or function object in C++0x (tested with gcc 4.5.0). The general case handles function objects: template <typename F> struct function_traits { template <typename R, typename... A> struct _internal { }; template <typename R, typename... A> struct _internal<R (F::*)(A...)> { // ... }; typedef typename _internal<decltype(&F::operator())>::<<nested types go here>>; }; Then I have a specialization for plain functions at global scope: template <typename R, typename... A> struct function_traits<R (*)(A...)> { // ... }; This works fine, I can pass a function into the template or a function object and it works properly: template <typename F> void foo(F f) { typename function_traits<F>::whatever ...; } int f(int x) { ... } foo(f); What if, instead of passing a function or function object into foo, I want to pass a lambda expression? foo([](int x) { ... }); The problem here is that neither specialization of function_traits<> applies. The C++0x draft says that the type of the expression is a "unique, unnamed, non-union class type". Demangling the result of calling typeid(...).name() on the expression gives me what appears to be gcc's internal naming convention for the lambda, main::{lambda(int)#1}, not something that syntactically represents a C++ typename. In short, is there anything I can put into the template here: template <typename R, typename... A> struct function_traits<????> { ... } that will allow this traits class to accept a lambda expression?

  • Dynamic Dispatch without Virtual Functions

    - by Kristopher Johnson
    I've got some legacy code that, instead of virtual functions, uses a kind field to do dynamic dispatch. It looks something like this: // Base struct shared by all subtypes // Plain-old data; can't use virtual functions struct POD { int kind; int GetFoo(); int GetBar(); int GetBaz(); int GetXyzzy(); }; enum Kind { Kind_Derived1, Kind_Derived2, Kind_Derived3 }; struct Derived1: POD { Derived1(): kind(Kind_Derived1) {} int GetFoo(); int GetBar(); int GetBaz(); int GetXyzzy(); // plus other type-specific data and function members }; struct Derived2: POD { Derived2(): kind(Kind_Derived2) {} int GetFoo(); int GetBar(); int GetBaz(); int GetXyzzy(); // plus other type-specific data and function members }; struct Derived3: POD { Derived3(): kind(Kind_Derived3) {} int GetFoo(); int GetBar(); int GetBaz(); int GetXyzzy(); // plus other type-specific data and function members }; and then the POD class's function members are implemented like this: int POD::GetFoo() { // Call kind-specific function switch (kind) { case Kind_Derived1: { Derived1 *pDerived1 = static_cast<Derived1*>(this); return pDerived1->GetFoo(); } case Kind_Derived2: { Derived2 *pDerived2 = static_cast<Derived2*>(this); return pDerived2->GetFoo(); } case Kind_Derived3: { Derived3 *pDerived3 = static_cast<Derived3*>(this); return pDerived3->GetFoo(); } default: throw UnknownKindException(kind, "GetFoo"); } } POD::GetBar(), POD::GetBaz(), POD::GetXyzzy(), and other members are implemented similarly. This example is simplified. The actual code has about a dozen different subtypes of POD, and a couple dozen methods. New subtypes of POD and new methods are added pretty frequently, and so every time we do that, we have to update all these switch statements. The typical way to handle this would be to declare the function members virtual in the POD class, but we can't do that because the objects reside in shared memory. There is a lot of code that depends on these structs being plain-old-data, so even if I could figure out some way to have virtual functions in shared-memory objects, I wouldn't want to do that. So, I'm looking for suggestions as to the best way to clean this up so that all the knowledge of how to call the subtype methods is centralized in one place, rather than scattered among a couple dozen switch statements in a couple dozen functions. What occurs to me is that I can create some sort of adapter class that wraps a POD and uses templates to minimize the redundancy. But before I start down that path, I'd like to know how others have dealt with this.

  • Hot to get rid of memory allocations/deallocations in swig wrappers?

    - by Dmitriy Matveev
    I want to use swig for generation of read-only wrappers for a complex object. The object which I want to wrap will always be existent while I will read it. And also I will only use my wrappers at the time that object is existent, thus I don't need any memory management from SWIG. For following swig interface: %module test %immutable; %inline %{ struct Foo { int a; }; struct Bar { int b; Foo f; }; %} I will have a wrappers which will have a lot of garbage in generated interfaces and do useless work which will reduce performance in my case. Generated java wrapper for Bar class will be like this: public class Bar { private long swigCPtr; protected boolean swigCMemOwn; protected Bar(long cPtr, boolean cMemoryOwn) { swigCMemOwn = cMemoryOwn; swigCPtr = cPtr; } protected static long getCPtr(Bar obj) { return (obj == null) ? 0 : obj.swigCPtr; } protected void finalize() { delete(); } public synchronized void delete() { if (swigCPtr != 0) { if (swigCMemOwn) { swigCMemOwn = false; testJNI.delete_Bar(swigCPtr); } swigCPtr = 0; } } public int getB() { return testJNI.Bar_b_get(swigCPtr, this); } public Foo getF() { return new Foo(testJNI.Bar_f_get(swigCPtr, this), true); } public Bar() { this(testJNI.new_Bar(), true); } } I don't need 'swigCMemOwn' field in my wrapper since it always will be false. All code related to this field will also be useless. There are also unnecessary logic in native code: SWIGEXPORT jlong JNICALL Java_some_testJNI_Bar_1f_1get(JNIEnv *jenv, jclass jcls, jlong jarg1, jobject jarg1_) { jlong jresult = 0 ; struct Bar *arg1 = (struct Bar *) 0 ; Foo result; (void)jenv; (void)jcls; (void)jarg1_; arg1 = *(struct Bar **)&jarg1; result = ((arg1)->f); { Foo * resultptr = (Foo *) malloc(sizeof(Foo)); memmove(resultptr, &result, sizeof(Foo)); *(Foo **)&jresult = resultptr; } return jresult; } I don't need these calls to malloc and memmove. I want to force swig to resolve both of these problems, but don't know how. Is it possible?

  • Send a variable on the heap to another thread

    - by user1201889
    I have a strange problem in C++. An address of a Boolean gets "destroyed" but it doesn't get touched. I know that there are beater way's to accomplish what I try to do, but I want to know what I do wrong. I have a main class; this main class contains a vector of another class. There is a strange problem when a new instance gets created of this object. This is how my code works: There will start a thread when the constructor gets called of the “2nd”object. This thread gets as Parameter a struct. This is the struct: struct KeyPressData { vector<bool> *AutoPressStatus; vector<int> *AutoPressTime; bool * Destroy; bool * Ready; }; The struct gets filled in the constructor: MultiBoxClient::MultiBoxClient() { //init data DestroyThread = new bool; ReadyThread = new bool; AutoThreadData = new KeyPressData; //Reseting data *DestroyThread = false; *ReadyThread = false; //KeyPressData configurating AutoThreadData->AutoPressStatus = &AutoPressStatus; AutoThreadData->AutoPressTime = &AutoPressTime; AutoThreadData->Destroy = DestroyThread; AutoThreadData->Ready = ReadyThread; //Start the keypress thread CreateThread(NULL,NULL,(LPTHREAD_START_ROUTINE)AutoKeyThread,AutoThreadData,NULL,NULL); } As long as the constructor is running will the program run fine. But when the constructor closes the address of the “AutoThreadData-Destroy” will get corrupted. The program will crash when I call the value of the pointer. void WINAPI AutoKeyThread(void * ThreadData) { KeyPressData * AutoThreadData = (KeyPressData*)ThreadData; while(true) { if(*AutoThreadData->Destroy == true) //CRASH { *AutoThreadData->Ready = true; return; } Sleep(100); } } What did I test: I logged the address of the AutoThreadData and the AutoThreadData-Destroy when the constrcutor is running and clossed; the AutoThreadData address is equal to AutoThreadData when the constructor is closed. So there is no problem here. The address of AutoThreadData-Destroy gets destroyed when the constructor is closed. But how can this happen? The Boolean is on the heap and the KeyPressData struct (AutoThreadData) is on the heap. Destroy before: 00A85328 Destroy after: FEEEFEEE Can someone maby explain why this crash? I know that I can send a pointer to my class to the thread. But I want to know what goes wrong here. That way I can learn from my mistakes. Could someone help me with this problem? Thanks!

  • Detect if class has overloaded function fails on Comeau compiler

    Hi Everyone, I'm trying to use SFINAE to detect if a class has an overloaded member function that takes a certain type. The code I have seems to work correctly in Visual Studio and GCC, but does not compile using the Comeau online compiler. Here is the code I'm using: #include <stdio.h> //Comeau doesnt' have boost, so define our own enable_if_c template<bool value> struct enable_if_c { typedef void type; }; template<> struct enable_if_c< false > {}; //Class that has the overloaded member function class TestClass { public: void Func(float value) { printf( "%f\n", value ); } void Func(int value) { printf( "%i\n", value ); } }; //Struct to detect if TestClass has an overloaded member function for type T template<typename T> struct HasFunc { template<typename U, void (TestClass::*)( U )> struct SFINAE {}; template<typename U> static char Test(SFINAE<U, &TestClass::Func>*); template<typename U> static int Test(...); static const bool Has = sizeof(Test<T>(0)) == sizeof(char); }; //Use enable_if_c to only allow the function call if TestClass has a valid overload for T template<typename T> typename enable_if_c<HasFunc<T>::Has>::type CallFunc(TestClass &test, T value) { test.Func( value ); } int main() { float value1 = 0.0f; int value2 = 0; TestClass testClass; CallFunc( testClass, value1 ); //Should call TestClass::Func( float ) CallFunc( testClass, value2 ); //Should call TestClass::Func( int ) } The error message is: no instance of function template "CallFunc" matches the argument list. It seems that HasFunc::Has is false for int and float when it should be true. Is this a bug in the Comeau compiler? Am I doing something that's not standard? And if so, what do I need to do to fix it?

  • how to create multiple tcp connections between server and client

    - by lowcosthighperformance
    I am new in Unix/Linux networking programming, so I have written server-client program in below.In this code there is one socket between client and server, client requests to server, then server responses from 1 to 100 numbers to client. So my question is how can we do this process with 3 socket( tcp connection) without using thread? ( e.g. First socket runs then second runs then third runs then first again .. ) Do you have any suggestion? Thank you client.c int main() { int sock; struct sockaddr_in sa; int ret; char buf[1024]; int x; sock = socket (AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0); bzero (&sa, sizeof(sa)); sa.sin_family = AF_INET; sa.sin_port = htons(SERVER_PORT); inet_pton (AF_INET, SERVER_IP, &sa.sin_addr); ret = connect (sock, (const struct sockaddr *) &sa,sizeof (sa)); if (ret != 0) { printf ("connect failed\n"); exit (0); } x = 0; while (x != -1) { read (sock, buf , sizeof(int)); x = ntohl(*((int *)buf)); if (x != -1) printf ("int rcvd = %d\n", x); } close (sock); exit (0); } server.c int main() { int list_sock; int conn_sock; struct sockaddr_in sa, ca; socklen_t ca_len; char buf[1024]; int i; char ipaddrstr[IPSTRLEN]; list_sock = socket (AF_INET, SOCK_STREAM, 0); bzero (&sa, sizeof(sa)); sa.sin_family = AF_INET; sa.sin_addr.s_addr = htonl(INADDR_ANY); sa.sin_port = htons(SERVER_PORT); bind (list_sock,(struct sockaddr *) &sa,sizeof(sa)); listen (list_sock, 5); while (1){ bzero (&ca, sizeof(ca)); ca_len = sizeof(ca); // important to initialize conn_sock = accept (list_sock,(struct sockaddr *) &ca,&ca_len); printf ("connection from: ip=%s port=%d \n",inet_ntop(AF_INET, &(ca.sin_addr), ipaddrstr, IPSTRLEN),ntohs(ca.sin_port)); for (i=0; i<100; ++i){ *((int *)buf) = htonl(i+20); // we using converting to network byte order write (conn_sock, buf, sizeof(int)); } * ((int *)buf) = htonl(-1); write (conn_sock, buf, sizeof(int)); close (conn_sock); printf ("server closed connection to client\n"); } }

  • Split a binary file into chunks c++

    - by L4nce0
    I've been bashing my head against trying to first divide up a file into chunks, for the purpose of sending over sockets. I can read / write a file easily without splitting it into chunks. The code below runs, works, kinda. It will write a textfile and has a garbage character. Which if this was just for txt, no problem. Jpegs aren't working with said garbage. Been at it for a few days, so I've done my research, and it's time to get some help. I do want to stick strictly to binary readers, as this need to handle any file. I've seen a lot of slick examples out there. (none of them worked for me with jpgs) Mostly something along the lines of while(file)... I subscribe to the, if you know the size, use a for-loop, not a while-loop camp. Thank you for the help!! vector<char*> readFile(const char* fn){ vector<char*> v; ifstream::pos_type size; char * memblock; ifstream file; file.open(fn,ios::in|ios::binary|ios::ate); if (file.is_open()) { size = fileS(fn); file.seekg (0, ios::beg); int bs = size/3; // arbitrary. Actual program will use the socket send size int ws = 0; int i = 0; for(i = 0; i < size; i+=bs){ if(i+bs > size) ws = size%bs; else ws = bs; memblock = new char [ws]; file.read (memblock, ws); v.push_back(memblock); } } else{ exit(-4); } return v; } int main(int argc, char **argv) { vector<char*> v = readFile("foo.txt"); ofstream myFile ("bar.txt", ios::out | ios::binary); for(vector<char*>::iterator it = v.begin(); it!=v.end(); ++it ){ myFile.write(*it,strlen(*it)); } }

    I have Windows 7 on my machine and then installed Ubuntu 12.04 using a live CD. I can see both Windows 7 and Ubuntu in the grub menu, but when I select Windows 7 it shows a black screen for about 2 seconds and the returns to the Grub menu. • Understanding G1 GC Logs

    - by poonam
    The purpose of this post is to explain the meaning of GC logs generated with some tracing and diagnostic options for G1 GC. We will take a look at the output generated with PrintGCDetails which is a product flag and provides the most detailed level of information. Along with that, we will also look at the output of two diagnostic flags that get enabled with -XX:+UnlockDiagnosticVMOptions option - G1PrintRegionLivenessInfo that prints the occupancy and the amount of space used by live objects in each region at the end of the marking cycle and G1PrintHeapRegions that provides detailed information on the heap regions being allocated and reclaimed. We will be looking at the logs generated with JDK 1.7.0_04 using these options. Option -XX:+PrintGCDetails Here's a sample log of G1 collection generated with PrintGCDetails. 0.522: [GC pause (young), 0.15877971 secs] [Parallel Time: 157.1 ms] [GC Worker Start (ms): 522.1 522.2 522.2 522.2 Avg: 522.2, Min: 522.1, Max: 522.2, Diff: 0.1] [Ext Root Scanning (ms): 1.6 1.5 1.6 1.9 Avg: 1.7, Min: 1.5, Max: 1.9, Diff: 0.4] [Update RS (ms): 38.7 38.8 50.6 37.3 Avg: 41.3, Min: 37.3, Max: 50.6, Diff: 13.3] [Processed Buffers : 2 2 3 2 Sum: 9, Avg: 2, Min: 2, Max: 3, Diff: 1] [Scan RS (ms): 9.9 9.7 0.0 9.7 Avg: 7.3, Min: 0.0, Max: 9.9, Diff: 9.9] [Object Copy (ms): 106.7 106.8 104.6 107.9 Avg: 106.5, Min: 104.6, Max: 107.9, Diff: 3.3] [Termination (ms): 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 Avg: 0.0, Min: 0.0, Max: 0.0, Diff: 0.0] [Termination Attempts : 1 4 4 6 Sum: 15, Avg: 3, Min: 1, Max: 6, Diff: 5] [GC Worker End (ms): 679.1 679.1 679.1 679.1 Avg: 679.1, Min: 679.1, Max: 679.1, Diff: 0.1] [GC Worker (ms): 156.9 157.0 156.9 156.9 Avg: 156.9, Min: 156.9, Max: 157.0, Diff: 0.1] [GC Worker Other (ms): 0.3 0.3 0.3 0.3 Avg: 0.3, Min: 0.3, Max: 0.3, Diff: 0.0] [Clear CT: 0.1 ms] [Other: 1.5 ms] [Choose CSet: 0.0 ms] [Ref Proc: 0.3 ms] [Ref Enq: 0.0 ms] [Free CSet: 0.3 ms] [Eden: 12M(12M)->0B(10M) Survivors: 0B->2048K Heap: 13M(64M)->9739K(64M)] [Times: user=0.59 sys=0.02, real=0.16 secs] This is the typical log of an Evacuation Pause (G1 collection) in which live objects are copied from one set of regions (young OR young+old) to another set. It is a stop-the-world activity and all the application threads are stopped at a safepoint during this time. This pause is made up of several sub-tasks indicated by the indentation in the log entries. Here's is the top most line that gets printed for the Evacuation Pause. 0.522: [GC pause (young), 0.15877971 secs] This is the highest level information telling us that it is an Evacuation Pause that started at 0.522 secs from the start of the process, in which all the regions being evacuated are Young i.e. Eden and Survivor regions. This collection took 0.15877971 secs to finish. Evacuation Pauses can be mixed as well. In which case the set of regions selected include all of the young regions as well as some old regions. 1.730: [GC pause (mixed), 0.32714353 secs] Let's take a look at all the sub-tasks performed in this Evacuation Pause. [Parallel Time: 157.1 ms] Parallel Time is the total elapsed time spent by all the parallel GC worker threads. The following lines correspond to the parallel tasks performed by these worker threads in this total parallel time, which in this case is 157.1 ms. [GC Worker Start (ms): 522.1 522.2 522.2 522.2Avg: 522.2, Min: 522.1, Max: 522.2, Diff: 0.1] The first line tells us the start time of each of the worker thread in milliseconds. The start times are ordered with respect to the worker thread ids – thread 0 started at 522.1ms and thread 1 started at 522.2ms from the start of the process. The second line tells the Avg, Min, Max and Diff of the start times of all of the worker threads. [Ext Root Scanning (ms): 1.6 1.5 1.6 1.9 Avg: 1.7, Min: 1.5, Max: 1.9, Diff: 0.4] This gives us the time spent by each worker thread scanning the roots (globals, registers, thread stacks and VM data structures). Here, thread 0 took 1.6ms to perform the root scanning task and thread 1 took 1.5 ms. The second line clearly shows the Avg, Min, Max and Diff of the times spent by all the worker threads. [Update RS (ms): 38.7 38.8 50.6 37.3 Avg: 41.3, Min: 37.3, Max: 50.6, Diff: 13.3] Update RS gives us the time each thread spent in updating the Remembered Sets. Remembered Sets are the data structures that keep track of the references that point into a heap region. Mutator threads keep changing the object graph and thus the references that point into a particular region. We keep track of these changes in buffers called Update Buffers. The Update RS sub-task processes the update buffers that were not able to be processed concurrently, and updates the corresponding remembered sets of all regions. [Processed Buffers : 2 2 3 2Sum: 9, Avg: 2, Min: 2, Max: 3, Diff: 1] This tells us the number of Update Buffers (mentioned above) processed by each worker thread. [Scan RS (ms): 9.9 9.7 0.0 9.7 Avg: 7.3, Min: 0.0, Max: 9.9, Diff: 9.9] These are the times each worker thread had spent in scanning the Remembered Sets. Remembered Set of a region contains cards that correspond to the references pointing into that region. This phase scans those cards looking for the references pointing into all the regions of the collection set. [Object Copy (ms): 106.7 106.8 104.6 107.9 Avg: 106.5, Min: 104.6, Max: 107.9, Diff: 3.3] These are the times spent by each worker thread copying live objects from the regions in the Collection Set to the other regions. [Termination (ms): 0.0 0.0 0.0 0.0 Avg: 0.0, Min: 0.0, Max: 0.0, Diff: 0.0] Termination time is the time spent by the worker thread offering to terminate. But before terminating, it checks the work queues of other threads and if there are still object references in other work queues, it tries to steal object references, and if it succeeds in stealing a reference, it processes that and offers to terminate again. [Termination Attempts : 1 4 4 6 Sum: 15, Avg: 3, Min: 1, Max: 6, Diff: 5] This gives the number of times each thread has offered to terminate. [Eden: 12M(12M)->0B(13M) Survivors: 0B->2048K Heap: 14M(64M)->9739K(64M)] This line gives the details on the heap size changes with the Evacuation Pause. This shows that Eden had the occupancy of 12M and its capacity was also 12M before the collection. After the collection, its occupancy got reduced to 0 since everything is evacuated/promoted from Eden during a collection, and its target size grew to 13M. The new Eden capacity of 13M is not reserved at this point. This value is the target size of the Eden. Regions are added to Eden as the demand is made and when the added regions reach to the target size, we start the next collection. Similarly, Survivors had the occupancy of 0 bytes and it grew to 2048K after the collection. The total heap occupancy and capacity was 14M and 64M receptively before the collection and it became 9739K and 64M after the collection. Apart from the evacuation pauses, G1 also performs concurrent-marking to build the live data information of regions. 1.416: [GC pause (young) (initial-mark), 0.62417980 secs] ….... 2.042: [GC concurrent-root-region-scan-start] 2.067: [GC concurrent-root-region-scan-end, 0.0251507] 2.068: [GC concurrent-mark-start] 3.198: [GC concurrent-mark-reset-for-overflow] 4.053: [GC concurrent-mark-end, 1.9849672 sec] 4.055: [GC remark 4.055: [GC ref-proc, 0.0000254 secs], 0.0030184 secs] [Times: user=0.00 sys=0.00, real=0.00 secs] 4.088: [GC cleanup 117M->106M(138M), 0.0015198 secs] [Times: user=0.00 sys=0.00, real=0.00 secs] 4.090: [GC concurrent-cleanup-start] 4.091: [GC concurrent-cleanup-end, 0.0002721] The first phase of a marking cycle is Initial Marking where all the objects directly reachable from the roots are marked and this phase is piggy-backed on a fully young Evacuation Pause. 2.042: [GC concurrent-root-region-scan-start] This marks the start of a concurrent phase that scans the set of root-regions which are directly reachable from the survivors of the initial marking phase. 2.067: [GC concurrent-root-region-scan-end, 0.0251507] End of the concurrent root region scan phase and it lasted for 0.0251507 seconds. 2.068: [GC concurrent-mark-start] Start of the concurrent marking at 2.068 secs from the start of the process. 3.198: [GC concurrent-mark-reset-for-overflow] This indicates that the global marking stack had became full and there was an overflow of the stack. Concurrent marking detected this overflow and had to reset the data structures to start the marking again. 4.053: [GC concurrent-mark-end, 1.9849672 sec] End of the concurrent marking phase and it lasted for 1.9849672 seconds. 4.055: [GC remark 4.055: [GC ref-proc, 0.0000254 secs], 0.0030184 secs] This corresponds to the remark phase which is a stop-the-world phase. It completes the left over marking work (SATB buffers processing) from the previous phase. In this case, this phase took 0.0030184 secs and out of which 0.0000254 secs were spent on Reference processing. 4.088: [GC cleanup 117M->106M(138M), 0.0015198 secs] Cleanup phase which is again a stop-the-world phase. It goes through the marking information of all the regions, computes the live data information of each region, resets the marking data structures and sorts the regions according to their gc-efficiency. In this example, the total heap size is 138M and after the live data counting it was found that the total live data size dropped down from 117M to 106M. 4.090: [GC concurrent-cleanup-start] This concurrent cleanup phase frees up the regions that were found to be empty (didn't contain any live data) during the previous stop-the-world phase. 4.091: [GC concurrent-cleanup-end, 0.0002721] Concurrent cleanup phase took 0.0002721 secs to free up the empty regions. Option -XX:G1PrintRegionLivenessInfo Now, let's look at the output generated with the flag G1PrintRegionLivenessInfo. This is a diagnostic option and gets enabled with -XX:+UnlockDiagnosticVMOptions. Option -XX:+G1PrintHeapRegions G1PrintHeapRegions option logs the regions related events when regions are committed, allocated into or are reclaimed. COMMIT/UNCOMMIT events G1HR COMMIT [0x6e900000,0x6ea00000]G1HR COMMIT [0x6ea00000,0x6eb00000] Here, the heap is being initialized or expanded and the region (with bottom: 0x6eb00000 and end: 0x6ec00000) is being freshly committed. COMMIT events are always generated in order i.e. the next COMMIT event will always be for the uncommitted region with the lowest address. G1HR UNCOMMIT [0x72700000,0x72800000]G1HR UNCOMMIT [0x72600000,0x72700000] Opposite to COMMIT. The heap got shrunk at the end of a Full GC and the regions are being uncommitted. Like COMMIT, UNCOMMIT events are also generated in order i.e. the next UNCOMMIT event will always be for the committed region with the highest address. GC Cycle events G1HR #StartGC 7G1HR CSET 0x6e900000G1HR REUSE 0x70500000G1HR ALLOC(Old) 0x6f800000G1HR RETIRE 0x6f800000 0x6f821b20G1HR #EndGC 7 This shows start and end of an Evacuation pause. This event is followed by a GC counter tracking both evacuation pauses and Full GCs. Here, this is the 7th GC since the start of the process. G1HR #StartFullGC 17G1HR UNCOMMIT [0x6ed00000,0x6ee00000]G1HR POST-COMPACTION(Old) 0x6e800000 0x6e854f58G1HR #EndFullGC 17 Shows start and end of a Full GC. This event is also followed by the same GC counter as above. This is the 17th GC since the start of the process. ALLOC events G1HR ALLOC(Eden) 0x6e800000 The region with bottom 0x6e800000 just started being used for allocation. In this case it is an Eden region and allocated into by a mutator thread. G1HR ALLOC(StartsH) 0x6ec00000 0x6ed00000G1HR ALLOC(ContinuesH) 0x6ed00000 0x6e000000 Regions being used for the allocation of Humongous object. The object spans over two regions. G1HR ALLOC(SingleH) 0x6f900000 0x6f9eb010 Single region being used for the allocation of Humongous object. G1HR COMMIT [0x6ee00000,0x6ef00000]G1HR COMMIT [0x6ef00000,0x6f000000]G1HR COMMIT [0x6f000000,0x6f100000]G1HR COMMIT [0x6f100000,0x6f200000]G1HR ALLOC(StartsH) 0x6ee00000 0x6ef00000G1HR ALLOC(ContinuesH) 0x6ef00000 0x6f000000G1HR ALLOC(ContinuesH) 0x6f000000 0x6f100000G1HR ALLOC(ContinuesH) 0x6f100000 0x6f102010 Here, Humongous object allocation request could not be satisfied by the free committed regions that existed in the heap, so the heap needed to be expanded. Thus new regions are committed and then allocated into for the Humongous object. G1HR ALLOC(Old) 0x6f800000 Old region started being used for allocation during GC. G1HR ALLOC(Survivor) 0x6fa00000 Region being used for copying old objects into during a GC. Note that Eden and Humongous ALLOC events are generated outside the GC boundaries and Old and Survivor ALLOC events are generated inside the GC boundaries. Other Events G1HR RETIRE 0x6e800000 0x6e87bd98 Retire and stop using the region having bottom 0x6e800000 and top 0x6e87bd98 for allocation. Note that most regions are full when they are retired and we omit those events to reduce the output volume. A region is retired when another region of the same type is allocated or we reach the start or end of a GC(depending on the region). So for Eden regions: For example: 1. ALLOC(Eden) Foo2. ALLOC(Eden) Bar3. StartGC At point 2, Foo has just been retired and it was full. At point 3, Bar was retired and it was full. If they were not full when they were retired, we will have a RETIRE event: 1. ALLOC(Eden) Foo2. RETIRE Foo top3. ALLOC(Eden) Bar4. StartGC G1HR CSET 0x6e900000 Region (bottom: 0x6e900000) is selected for the Collection Set. The region might have been selected for the collection set earlier (i.e. when it was allocated). However, we generate the CSET events for all regions in the CSet at the start of a GC to make sure there's no confusion about which regions are part of the CSet. G1HR POST-COMPACTION(Old) 0x6e800000 0x6e839858 POST-COMPACTION event is generated for each non-empty region in the heap after a full compaction. A full compaction moves objects around, so we don't know what the resulting shape of the heap is (which regions were written to, which were emptied, etc.). To deal with this, we generate a POST-COMPACTION event for each non-empty region with its type (old/humongous) and the heap boundaries. At this point we should only have Old and Humongous regions, as we have collapsed the young generation, so we should not have eden and survivors. POST-COMPACTION events are generated within the Full GC boundary. G1HR CLEANUP 0x6f400000G1HR CLEANUP 0x6f300000G1HR CLEANUP 0x6f200000 These regions were found empty after remark phase of Concurrent Marking and are reclaimed shortly afterwards. G1HR #StartGC 5G1HR CSET 0x6f400000G1HR CSET 0x6e900000G1HR REUSE 0x6f800000 At the end of a GC we retire the old region we are allocating into. Given that its not full, we will carry on allocating into it during the next GC. This is what REUSE means. In the above case 0x6f800000 should have been the last region with an ALLOC(Old) event during the previous GC and should have been retired before the end of the previous GC. G1HR ALLOC-FORCE(Eden) 0x6f800000 A specialization of ALLOC which indicates that we have reached the max desired number of the particular region type (in this case: Eden), but we decided to allocate one more. Currently it's only used for Eden regions when we extend the young generation because we cannot do a GC as the GC-Locker is active. G1HR EVAC-FAILURE 0x6f800000 During a GC, we have failed to evacuate an object from the given region as the heap is full and there is no space left to copy the object. This event is generated within GC boundaries and exactly once for each region from which we failed to evacuate objects. When Heap Regions are reclaimed ? It is also worth mentioning when the heap regions in the G1 heap are reclaimed. All regions that are in the CSet (the ones that appear in CSET events) are reclaimed at the end of a GC. The exception to that are regions with EVAC-FAILURE events. All regions with CLEANUP events are reclaimed. After a Full GC some regions get reclaimed (the ones from which we moved the objects out). But that is not shown explicitly, instead the non-empty regions that are left in the heap are printed out with the POST-COMPACTION events.
