  • How to fix Firefox Blue Screen of Death?

    I am running Windows XP SP3 and Firefox v3.6.2 and have an issue with Firefox causing the Blue Screen of Death. If I run in Windows safe mode, it does not occur, but running normally, it seems my firefox profile is going bad and results in certain web pages causing the BSOD. For example, presently, if I visit ebay.com, it gets BSOD. Before it was happening on google.com, but IT removed my Firefox profile and that seemed to fix the Google failure. However, now it has started occurring on ebay. I turned off all extensions and it still occurs. I'd like to fix my system so this does not occur. The IT folks don't seem to be able to solve this, so I am trying to fix it on my own. The BSOD is about something like (from memory) IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL. Why would safe mode avoid the issue and what does that tell us about the probable cause? I don't want to have to keep deleting my profile, so I'd like to find out the cause of the corruption.

If I could search the email subject using a regular exrpession, my life would be much easier. Can I search my inbox using a regular expression in Outlook 2003?

  • Any screen capture software that captures webcam, microphone inputs too ?

    I am going to conduct a user study. Apart from capturing the screen while the user is interacting with the system, I also want to capture the video/audio of the user. Is there any software that in addition to capturing the screen also overlays it with the webcam/microphone inputs. The goal is to capture the complete experience of the user: key/mouse interactions with the system along with their facial/vocal responses. I know that I can maybe run a screen-capture software and also run a software for capturing webcam audio/video alongside and try to sync/overlay both these streams with timestamps. But I am going to be dealing with probably several hundred hours of data. So I am looking for a tool that can streamline the process for me amap and help me keep my sanity at end of the process.     I have been successfully converting jpgs to pdf in Mountain Lion with: do shell script "/System/Library/Printers/Libraries/./convert -f " & "\"" & _posix & "\"" & " -o " & "\"" & _newPosix & "\"" I recently moved to Mavericks and now get this error: -- error "sh: /System/Library/Printers/Libraries/./convert: No such file or directory" number 127 The error message is right - the directory does not exist under Mavericks. Can anyone suggest a replacement for this code?

  • Opening Time-Machine OSX backup files on Windows 7?

    Hi, Have Time Machine backups on a Western Digital External HD. The Time Machine backups were done on my now dead Mac G4 running OSX Leopard- I am waiting on a new iMac but in the meantime I need to access some of my backup files urgently. I have a laptop running Windows 7 so is there any safe way of accessing some of the files from the Time Machine backup on my laptop and still be able to do a full restore when the iMac arrives?   • Opensuse 11.1 KDE4 Dropbox autostart issue

    I am using KDE4 with the lastest version of opensuse, and I want to autostart everytime I turn on my computer. I followed this website: http://antrix.net/journal/techtalk/dropbox%5Fkde.html I got dropbox to work and everything is fine. I created a symlink to the dropboxd file to my ~/.kde4/AUtostart, but does not work. The command line I used to create the symlink is: ln -s ~/.dropbox-dist/dropdoxd ~/.kde4/Autostart/ I've check the symlink itself to see where it "pointed to" in it's properties, and it was the right file. The drobox-dist folder is in my /home/"username", and the dropboxd does work. I've tried using "sudo ln -s ~/.dropbox-dist/dropdoxd ~/.kde4/Autostart/" but no symlink was created. I've checked other blogs and they all say the same things to make dropbox to autostart up, yet it is not working. Does anyone know what's wrong?

    How can I maintain local LAN access while connected to Cisco VPN? When connecting using Cisco VPN, the server has to ability to instruct the client to prevent local LAN access. Assuming this server-side option cannot be turned off, how can allow local LAN access while connected with a Cisco VPN client?   • How do I make dashboard widgets active on logon?

    There are a few dashboard widget that are useful even when not going in Dashboard. For example, SVN Notifier sends a Growl notification when commits are made to a repository you want to watch. Or, Delivery Status does the same for status update on tracked packages. The thing is when I log into OS X, those status updates won't happen until the first time I actually enter into Dashboard, so it looks like they are not initialized at startup. How to fix this?

  • Why do (Russian) characters in some received emails change when reading in David InfoCenter?

    I'm using David InfoCenter as email Software, and I have troubles with some of my emails in Russian. It's only a few letters, in some emails (sent from different people), like for example the "R" ("P" in russian) will be shown as a "T". In other emails in Russian, the problem doesn't appear. Isn't it strange? Does anyone had the same problem already and found where it came from? When I transmit that email to an external mailbox (internet email account), it's even worse, and gives me symbols instead of all Russian letters... The default encoding was "Russian (ISO)", I changed it to "Russian (Windows)", but same problem. Another weird reaction is when I write an intern email and name it TEST in Russian (????), with ???? in the text window, it changes the title to "Oano"? But the content stays in Russian... With Mailinator I got the following, for message and subject "????": Subject: ????   • Jabber Breaks in Empathy

    Using empathy in Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit), everything worked great after initial setup. But after disconnecting and reconnecting, any Jabber connection (GTalk and Facebook Chat) gives a 'network error'. Tried disabling accounts and only connecting to GTalk, same error. Tried removing all accounts, adding GTalk, same error. Upgraded to the dev version of Empathy, connected once, then after going 'offline' and reconnecting, same error. If it just didn't work, I'd wait for some kind of fix. But it did work, but only once per install. How does that happen? Anyone with this problem that solved it?

  • HP Pavilion: Sound problem after Windows Vista SP2 update

    I have HP Pavilion dv-2051et notebook with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. Recently the sound of my notebook completely went off and I poked up Windows sound settings and IDT HD Sound panel to bring it back, but to no avail (trust me, I looked at every setting). Then I made a system restore to the point located just before Vista SP2 was installed. The sounds came back. Afterwards, I installed Vista SP2 again, and the sounds went off again. SP2 installation causes complete loss of sounds of my notebook. What can I do to overcome this problem? I don't want to stay with SP1 but installing SP2 brings me a huge problem. Anyone experienced this lately? Any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

  • Setting up dynamic DNS for linked router

    I have a 'main' router that receives the internet signal from the ISP and another one in my room, connected with a cable. The main router is running its original firmware and is very limited in its features, unfortunately I can not change this router, since my phone company has some hardcoded stuff in there and the internet will only work with this router. My second router is running DD-WRT firmware. Now I need to set up dynamic DNS, so I can access my NAS machine remotely, which is connected to the second router. As mentioned, this can't be done with the main router, due to its limited features. DHCP is turned off on the second router, since it gets its IP from the main one. Is there a possibility to set up dynamic DNS on the second router, without changing any (or much) on the main router? Maybe as a side note: I live in Germany, don't know if the set up of the routers are different in other countries.

    In "Upgrading and Repairing PC's - 18th edition" by Scott Mueller on pg. 1278 he discusses multimeters. "You should only use a DMM (digital multimeter) instead of the older needle-type multimeters because the older meters work by injecting 9V into the circuit when measuring resistance, which damages most computer circuits. A DMM uses a much smaller voltage (usually 1.5V) when making resistance measurements, which is safe for electronic equipment." Most DMM's that I've looked at have 9V batteries. Are they internally stepping down the voltage used when making these measurements? Wouldn't the concern of injecting 9V be true when measuring continuity as well? A little off topic, there is a fascinating way to test for laptop screen inverter failure, (http://www.fonerbooks.com/test.htm), is anyone aware of a safe DMM that is capable of this as well?

    I can not run the Terminal.app after rolling back my system from time machine. Mac OS X Version 10.6.2 It displays the following error. "Your are not authorized to run this application" "The administrator has set your shell to an illegal value" After that I have deleted the file ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Terminal.plist But the same message is displayed. I have repaired all system rights with the DiskUtility but that did not help.

  • Can't Remote into Windows Server

    Hello, I have a Dell server wired into the router. I was able to connect to it with my laptop (laptop is wireless) before my router died. My verizon router went kaput, and I got everything else back up and running on the wireless network other than the remoting in feature, even though I can access the server through windows explorer just fine. Any ideas why? What do I need to check? UPDATE: Interesting scenario, Network Discovery is off; I turn it on and save, but for some reason, even after that, network discovery is turning itself off... no idea why that is happening? Thanks.

  • Where can I get an Adobe Flash Page Curl / Flip / Peel Effect tutorial?

    I currently work on a brochure in InDesign. I export as an SWF and apply a page curl effect to it when publishing so I can put it online. It's great. However, I now want to take the brochure to the next level and make each page interactive. To do this I export from InDesign as an XFL (flash format). This gets the brochure into Flash, with each page on a separate frame. I can now make the page interactive; this is also great! All I need to do now is create the page flip effect again, because when you export to XFL you cannot embed a page flip effect on it. The trouble is I can't find a tutorial anywhere for creating this effect. Anyone know where I can find one?

    I need to setup a multi-tenant DNS solution in Linux DNS Server. Currently I serve multiple companies: Company ABC, Company XYZ, etc... I need to create a) Forwarder zone b) Reverse Forward Zone. I can easily create a Forward Zone with domain abc.com The challenge I have is that each of my customer components share the same IP address. Hence If I create the Reverse Forward Zone I end up with something like this: abc.com 1.1.1.1 host.abc.com xyz.com 1.1.1.1 host.xyz.com If I perform a reverse lookup on host.abc.com it works fine...but if I do a reverse lookup on 1.1.1.1 I get a load balance response of: attempt: host.abc.com attempt: host.xyz.com attempt: host.abc.com Any ideas? I want to add logic to the DNS configuration to handle DNS reverse lookup based on source machine and respond with right hostname. Workaround: Create multiple DNS but this is not scalable.

    I have bought a ACER Aspire 5736Z-4790 laptop for my parents. It just passed the warranty. I think the hard disk is bad now. I cannot open/copy some of my files. It will crash (blue screen) when I do chkdsk /f/r in the stage 4 of 5 which is verifying file data. I can hear a strange noise when it is reading the bad sectors (I guess because it hangs there.) I am thinking replace the hard disk. should I buy the same hard disk or any SATA laptop hard disk will be ok? BTW, is there a way to repair it (with software)?

  • Replacement mouse "feet"?

    The plastic skid pad "feet" on the bottom of my Logitech G9 mouse (which I love!) are getting rather worn down -- to the point that the outer shell of the mouse scrapes on the mousepad a bit. I've had the mouse for about ~2 years now so it does get a lot (I mean lot of use). But, I hate to buy a new mouse when I only need replacement "feet". Where can I obtain replacement mouse feet? Is this even possible?
