    - by doloop
Hi, I am quite new about android platform. I want to export my service to be public used. I find something on developer doc android:exported Whether or not components of other applications can invoke the service or interact with it — "true" if they can, and "false" if not. When the value is "false", only components of the same application or applications with the same user ID can start the service or bind to it. but i dont understand it Can anyone show me a brief example of how to use it? many thx

  • Android pattern for activity "flows"

    - by Otto
I'm developing an android app that has a bunch of screens (activities) that are supposed to have "continue" and "back" buttons at the top. Can you tell me the right pattern for implementing this? I've seen some iPhone apps that have this but Android apps usually don't (I think partly because the back button is part of the phone). I found a post online about an Activity class that has "sub activities" which kind of seems like what I want to do, but I'm wondering if there's a simpler solution or pattern for creating flows like this (in which several activities are linked with continue/back buttons).

  • Android database closed exception

    - by Bombastic
I'm working on a project where I'm downloading and saving data from web to sqlite database. A few minutes ago I receive a strange exception to our server from a user which is saying that the sqlite database is already closed..and I just checked the whole file where the exception happened and I'm not calling dbHelper.close();. Here is the function where the app crashes and LogCat message : public void insertCollectionCountries(JSONObject obj, Context context) { //Insert in collection_countries if(RPCCommunicator.isServiceRunning){ Log.w("","JsonCollection - insertCollectionCountries"); ContentValues valuesCountries = new ContentValues(); try { collectionId = Integer.parseInt(obj.getString("collection_id")); dbHelper.deleteSQL("collection_countries", "collection_id=?", new String[] {Integer.toString(collectionId)}); JSONArray arrayCountries = obj.getJSONArray("country_availability"); for (int i=0; i<arrayCountries.length(); i++) { valuesCountries.put("collection_id", collectionId); String countryCode = arrayCountries.getString(i); valuesCountries.put("country_code", countryCode); dbHelper.executeQuery("collection_countries", valuesCountries); } } catch (JSONException e){ e.printStackTrace(); } } } and the error is on that line : dbHelper.executeQuery("collection_countries", valuesCountries); here is the LogCat message : java.lang.IllegalStateException: database /data/data/com.stampii.stampii/databases/stampii_sys_tpl.sqlite (conn# 0) already closed at android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase.verifyDbIsOpen(SQLiteDatabase.java:2123) at android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase.setTransactionSuccessful(SQLiteDatabase.java:734) at com.stampii.stampii.comm.rpc.SystemDatabaseHelper.execQuery(SystemDatabaseHelper.java:298) at com.stampii.stampii.comm.rpc.SystemDatabaseHelper.executeQuery(SystemDatabaseHelper.java:291) at com.stampii.stampii.jsonAPI.JsonCollection.insertCollectionCounries(JsonCollection.java:548) at com.stampii.stampii.jsonAPI.JsonCollection.executeInsert(JsonCollection.java:181) at com.stampii.stampii.collections.MyService.downloadCollections(MyService.java:122) at com.stampii.stampii.collections.MyService$2.run(MyService.java:74) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:1020) and function in my dbHelperClass which I'm using to insert data : public boolean executeQuery(String tableName,ContentValues values){ return execQuery(tableName, values); } private boolean execQuery(String tableName,ContentValues values){ sqliteDb = instance.getWritableDatabase(); sqliteDb.beginTransaction(); sqliteDb.insert(tableName, null, values); sqliteDb.setTransactionSuccessful(); sqliteDb.endTransaction(); return true; } Any ideas which can close my sqlite database or what can cause that exception, because I've tested this code on a few emulators with different Android versions, different devices (HTC EVO 3D, Samsung Galaxy Nexus,HTC Desire, LG OPTIMUS PAD, Samsung Galaxy S2, Samsung Galaxy Note) and it's working fine. Thanks in advance!

  • Code Golf: Counting XML elements in file on Android

    - by CSharperWithJava
Take a simple XML file formatted like this: <Lists> <List> <Note/> ... <Note/> </List> <List> <Note/> ... <Note/> </List> </Lists> Each node has some attributes that actually hold the data of the file. I need a very quick way to count the number of each type of element, (List and Note). Lists is simply the root and doesn't matter. I can do this with a simple string search or something similar, but I need to make this as fast as possible. Design Parameters: Must be in java (Android application). Must AVOID allocating memory as much as possible. Must return the total number of Note elements and the number of List elements in the file, regardless of location in file. Number of Lists will typically be small (1-4), and number of notes can potentially be very large (upwards of 1000, typically 100) per file. I look forward to your suggestions.

  • How to install older Android SDK in Eclipse

    - by John Brunner
I'm working at the moment at a simple app in eclipse for android. Just receiving and sending data, and using the camera API. I've set the minSDKversion to 8, because I think that has the widest user base. But at the beginning of the project eclipse was asking me which target SDK version I would use, and because I had just one installed (the latest 4.0.3) I've took this. Now I'm asking me if it wouldn't be wiser to install a lower SDK, like Android 2.2, because it would be not that big (compared to the 4.0.3) and my app would not have included all the fancy new features, which are not used in any way?! Or is this complete nonsense I'm talking here, and just should take my 4.0.3 SDK? When not, how can I install a lower version? Help -> SDK Manager is not showing old SDKs...

  • opening and viewing a file in php

    - by Christian Burgos
how do i open/view for editing an uploaded file in php? i have tried this but it doesn't open the file. $my_file = 'file.txt'; $handle = fopen($my_file, 'r'); $data = fread($handle,filesize($my_file)); i've also tried this but it wont work. $my_file = 'file.txt'; $handle = fopen($my_file, 'w') or die('Cannot open file: '.$my_file); $data = 'This is the data'; fwrite($handle, $data); what i have in mind is like when you want to view an uploaded resume, documents or any other ms office files like .docx,.xls,.pptx and be able to edit them, save and close the said file. edit: latest tried code... <?php // Connects to your Database include "configdb.php"; //Retrieves data from MySQL $data = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM employees") or die(mysql_error()); //Puts it into an array while($info = mysql_fetch_array( $data )) { //Outputs the image and other data //Echo "<img src=localhost/uploadfile/images".$info['photo'] ."> <br>"; Echo "<b>Name:</b> ".$info['name'] . "<br> "; Echo "<b>Email:</b> ".$info['email'] . " <br>"; Echo "<b>Phone:</b> ".$info['phone'] . " <hr>"; //$file=fopen("uploadfile/images/".$info['photo'],"r+"); $file=fopen("Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/uploadfile/images/file.odt","r") or exit("unable to open file");; } ?> i am getting the error: Warning: fopen(Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/uploadfile/images/file.odt): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/htdocs/uploadfile/view.php on line 17 unable to open file the file is in that folder, i don't know it wont find it.

  • low latency data link pc to android

    - by steveh
can anyone recommend a method for low latency bi-directional com link between my pc app and android slave app. the app i have works now via wifi but the latency is too slow (about 300mS), i'm looking to get it down to 10mS or so. the android is acting like a glorified remote control to the game on the pc. the apk displays a low res image and sends button presses back to the game and the round trip need to be quick i'm thinking the only option beside the network, is to connect a usb cable but i don't see a lot of support for that path and not even sure it would be lower latency than wifi any ideas please?

  • Create dynamic view with android

    - by ekevin
Hi I'm stuck on a problem and if possible I will need help from the community. I'm not looking for a ready-made solution, but something which would help me to produce the result. I'm looking for a way to produce a dynamic activity based on a JSON object. Here an example of a JSON object: [ { "name": "my checkbox name", "type": "checkbox", "value": "one, two, three" } { "name": "my edit text", "type": "text", "value": "" } ...] This JSONObject could be totally random. I could have 2 text views, 3 select menus, 1 text view and so on. The goal is to iterate over this JSONObject and create the appropriate elements within my android code. To produce the result I've thought of a simple switch which would render one by one my different JSONObject to an android widget. But after that how could I have access of every property of every widget rendered? Thank you.

  • Android Assets No Value Read?

    - by BahaiResearch.com
AssetManager assets = myContext.getAssets(); String[] files = assets.list("MyFolder"); InputStream myInput = assets.open("MyFolder/" + files[0]); int i = myInput.read(); in this case 'i' is -1 meaning nothing read. Why would nothing be there if the file is there, the variable 'files' has the file as well. Do I need to do anything to the file I put into the Assets folder in get it to be readable?

  • Android - Looping Activity to Repeat MediaPlayer

    - by Austin Anderson
    I'm trying to create a soundboard for longer audio files and can't figure out how to stop an audio file and start it again without closing the activity. Let's say each audio file is one minute long. If I play the first audio file for 20 seconds and start the next audio file, the first stops playing and the second starts playing. However, if I click the first audio file again, the second stops playing and the first does not. I need help. This is driving me insane. bAudio1 = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.bAudio1); bAudio2 = (ImageButton) findViewById(R.id.bAudio2); mpAudio1 = MediaPlayer.create(this, R.raw.audio1); mpAudio2 = MediaPlayer.create(this, R.raw.audio2); bAudio1.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { if(mpAudio1.isPlaying()) { mpAudio1.stop(); } else { if(mpAudio2.isPlaying()) { mpAudio2.stop(); } mpAudio1.start(); } } }); bAudio2.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { if(mpAudio2.isPlaying()) { mpAudio2.stop(); } else { if(mpAudio1.isPlaying()) { mpAudio1.stop(); } mpAudio2.start(); } } }); Thanks.
