Given a webserver on IP 192.168.1.1, how do you secure it to the point that Firefox doesn't offer warnings (and is still secured)?

Downloading the standalone installer yields exceptions at the end of the installation process.   • Windows 7 x64: TrustedInstalled.exe is missing

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64. The TrustedInstaller service is failing to start with an error about a file missing, and sure enough C:\Windows\servicing\TrustedInstaller.exe is missing. What is the easiest way to restore this file? I can't run SFC from within Windows, because that results in the error "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"... which happens if the trusted installer service is not running.

    We have the following ssh hop setup: localhost -> hub -> server hubuser@hub accepts the public key for localuser@localhost. serveruser@server accepts the public key for hubuser@hub. So we are issuing ssh -t hubuser@hub ssh serveruser@server for connecting to server. The problem with this setup is we can not scp directly to the server.   • Routing with VPN and asymmetric communication

    I'm stumbling on a problem that requires your advice. Keywords : networking, route, openVPN Problem : I have a local network with several physical servers and VMs. These machines have ip's in the range 10.10.x.x. I can access these machines from the Internet with the help of openVPN. These machines can : access each other within the local 10.10.x.x subnet access the Internet via the VPN can themselves be accessed (via SSH) from the Internet via the VPN. There is one machine however that behaves strangely and I don't know why. I can SSH into this machine from anywhere via SSH and I can also PING it from anywhere (including the Internet). However from this machine (i.e. when logged into it) I cannot access the Internet or ping machines outside the local network. In other words it will not go beyond the VPN. My question is why?     How can I find out if a given program is 64 or 32 bit version? I can't to do it by simply looking at where it's installed, since some programs need no installer and may be put anywhere. Here, no process explorer will help me, since the application refuses to start. Reason why I need it: My new eclipse installation fails to load "jvm.dll" just like here. I'd bet I'm using 64-bit versions of both eclipse and JVM, but I'm slowly getting unsure....

  • Convert a CSV file to a XLS file on the linux command line?

    I'm using Debian Linux and I want to convert a CSV file to an Excel XLS Spreadsheet file. The catdoc package includes the xls2csv command that converts from XLS to CSV. However it doesn't do the reverse. Since I just have a CSV file, I don't care about formatting or anything like that. I'm not worried if it only generates a very simple XLS file, and doesn't support the fancy new versions. Just so long as it's an XLS spreadsheet.

  • Install Windows SteadyState without an internet connection?

    Based on the results of this post, I'm trying to install Windows SteadyState on a bunch of computers with no internet connection (but all with legitimate copies of windows XP pro). The problem is that the installer asks to be connected to the Windows Genuine Advantage server, and I can't manage that. Is there a workaround? I can use internet at my home, but cannot have the school install and pay for a connection. Maybe there's another program that would work just as well?

However, the application is using the servers' external IP addresses in order to connect to them over SMTP, and I was wondering what kind of improvement would be obtained if the application used the internal IP addresses of the servers instead?     When I run the installer for both taglocity 2 and 3, during the installation I get the following error: Error 1001: Exception occurred while initializing the installation: System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorException: Configuration system failed to initalize. When I try to continue with the installation by clicking OK, a dialog appears with the title ADX Loader with the message: The system cannot find the file specified. Clicking OK causes the installation to roll back. I’m using Outlook 2007 on Windows XP.

    I am running mysqldump on Ubuntu Linux (10.0.4 LTS) my mySQL version info is: mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.41, for debian-linux-gnu (i486) using readline 6.1 I used the following command: mysql -u username -p dbname dbname_backup.sql However when I opened the generated .sql file, I saw that most of the tables had only the schema dumped and in the few cases where the actual data was dumped, only 1 or two records were dumped (there are ATLEAST several tens of records in each table). Does anyone know what maybe going on?

If I ask for server.compagny.com, it will give me address 10.0.0.1 If I ask for server.compagny.bigcompagny.com, it will give me the same address 10.0.0.1 I don't want to create twice the same files for my DNS Server : Too hard to maintain.     I have an original Eee PC 1000 running the stock Xandros. I have run into problems where the internal WiFi card does not seem to have enough sensitivity to connect to a lot of access points. Although the computer will report APs in the area, unless the signal strength is over 80% (as reported by the Wireless networks application) I cannot seem get a connection. So is there a recommended USB WiFi adapter that is known to work with the Eee PC/Xandros system or in general with a Debian based system?

I've tried contacting ovh but they just told me to set my dns to something diffrent but I can't as this operation is blocking any changes to the DNS records. Is there anything that I could do accept bug OVH?

What else can I try to do?

  • Issue using a "used" SSD as a Windows 8.1 Boot Drive

    So, I'm something of a Mac person, but decided to take a stab at this whole "build yourself a PC" thing - right now, the thing is assembled, posts just fine, and can get to the BIOS. The problem is the drive I want to use - I intended to use a 80 GB Corsair SSD I've had sitting around as the boot drive, and a new Samsung SSD for games and the like. So I boot using a Windows 8.1 install USB stick, and if the Samsung drive is plugged in, it happily offers to install Windows on it. The Corsair drive though, it's flipped out - I reformatted it as a blank NTFS drive (it was HFS for Mac purposes) and the BIOS can't see it, nor can the Windows installer. What's wrong, and how do I fix it? The tools at my disposal are: The current ASUS BIOS that came with my motherboard (a Z87I-Deluxe), a Mac running the latest OS X which can also boot to Windows 7 if needed via either Parallels or Bootcamp. Update 1: Update: Based on a friend's suggestion to switch SATA ports, Windows 8.1's installer can now see the drive as Drive 0, Partition 1, a 83.8 GB "Primary" partition. But when I click it and hit "Next", I get the following error: "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files" - not that it gives any clue how to access those. Update 2: Following a trail of Google suggestions, I ended up going into advanced tools and just reformatting the drive as follows: Start DISKPART. Type LIST DISK and identify your SSD disk number (from 0 to n disks). Type SELECT DISK <n> where <n> is your SSD disk number. Type CLEAN Type CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY Type ACTIVE Type FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK Type ASSIGN Type EXIT twice (one to get out of DiskPart, the other to exit the command line tool) Per these instructions. This goes well enough, but now I can select the disk for installation, and I get a new error: "Windows 8 cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GP disks." So, Googling that, I do the following: select disk 0 clean convert gpt exit ...and we might have fixed it. Windows is at least trying to install now.
