  Hi, I have a class, let's say User adnotated with @XmlRootElement, with some properties (name, surname etc). I use this class for REST operations, as application/xml. The client will POST User class so i want to keep the values in the log. Is there any method in jax-ws to prints out this object as xml? • Injecting dependency into entity repository

  Is there a simple way to inject a dependency into every repository instance in Doctrine2 ? I have tried listening to the loadClassMetadata event and using setter injection on the repository but this naturally resulted in a infinite loop as calling getRepository in the event triggered the same event.   I'm trying to make a page using data from the discogs.com (XML)-API. i've been parsing it with simpleXML and it's working pretty well but there is some things i'm not sure how to do. The M.O.F Blend in my link) This is done on discogs with having a master release that features the other releases. unfortunately this information isn't present in the API data, so i want to do the same thing by grouping the <release>-nodes with the same <title>-tags, or add a flag to the <releases> that don't have a unique <title>? any good ideas on the best way of doing this? i also like to know if it's possible to count the <release>-nodes (child of releases) that have the same type-attribute? like in this example count the releases with the type "Main"? maybe it's better to do this things with XMLReader or XPath?

• How to group a database write and spreadsheet write in single "transaction"

  I have a Java program that writes results to both a DB (SQL Server) and a spreadsheet (POI), and it would be best if neither is written to if there's an error with either. It would be a lot worse if the spreadsheet was produced and then an error happened while saving to the DB, so I'm doing the DB-write first. Even so, I'm wondering if someone knows of a way to guarantee they both succeed or fail as a unit. Thanks!

My question: i want to design a database, that will be used for a production facility of different types of products where each product has its own (number of) parameters. because i want the serial numbers to be in one tabel for overview purposes i have a problem with these different paraeters . One solution could be AEV, but it has its downsides, certainly because we have +- 5 products with every product +- 20.000 serial numbers (records). it looks a bit overkill to me... I just don't know how one could design a database so that you have an attribute in a mastertable that says: 'hey, you could find details of this record in THAT detail-table". 'in a way that you qould easely query the results) currenty i am using Visual Basic & Acces 2007. but i'm going to Visual Basic & MySQL. thanks for your help. Bob

• MDX: How to exclude ancestors from being returned in this query?

  I have this MDX query: Exists([Group].[Group Hierarchy].allmembers, {[Group].[Group Full Name].&[121 - Group A], [Group].[Group Full Name].&[700000 - Group C]}) ... which works fine EXCEPT that it returns all of the ancestors of the specified groups as well. What I want is to return JUST the groups from the hierarchy with the specified Group Names (this is a type 2 dimension so there may be many at different levels). Any ideas?

• JQuery validation not working for checkbox group

  I'm having trouble getting JQuery validation to work with a set of checkboxes. I'm generating the checkboxes using an ASP.NET checkboxlist, and I've used JQuery to set the 'name' attribute to the same thing for each checkbox in the list. Here's the code that gets written to the browser. I'm setting the 'validate' attribute on the 1st checkbox to set the rule that at least one checkbox must be selected. The JQuery validation works for all other elements on the form, but not for the checkbox list.   I want to match YYYY-YY for sequential years. I at moment I'm trying to match where all the second YY is the 3rd and 4th characters in YYYY with 1 added to it. So far I've got {19|20}(\d{2})-(\d{2}), but not sure how to use ? with reference to (1) or whether I'm going about this the right way and finding out the inevitable "unknown unknowns" (like YY99) with this approach? • NHibernate correct way to reattach cached entity to different session

  I'm using NHibernate to query a list of objects from my database. After I get the list of objects over them I iterate over the list of objects and apply a distance approximation algorithm to find the nearest object. I consider this function of getting the list of objects and apply the algorithm over them to be a heavy operation so I cache the object which I find from the algorithm in HttpRuntime.Cache. After this point whenever I'm given the supplied input again I can just directly pull the object from Cache instead of having to hit the database and traverse the list. My object is a complex object that has collections attached to it, inside the query where I return the full list of objects I don't bring back any of the sub collections eagerly so when I read my cached object I need lazy loading to work correctly to be able to display the object fully. Originally I tried using this to re-associate my cached object back to a new session _session.Lock(obj, LockMode.None); However when accessing the page concurrently from another instance I get the error Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions I then tried something different with _session.Merge(obj); However watching the output of this in NHProf shows that it is deleting and re-associating my object's contained collections with my object, which is not what I want although it seems to work fine. What is the correct way to do this? Neither of these seem to be right.

I was trying creating a new fullscreen form and copy all controls of the tabs to that form, but with this approach i need to resubscribe every control to the corresponding handler. If i only add the references the subscription remains but when the fullscreen form is close also the referenced copied controls are lost.

• ASP.NET MVC 2: Linq to SQL entity w/ ForeignKey relationship and Default ModelBinder strangeness

  Once again I'm having trouble with Linq to Sql and the MVC Model Binder. I have Linq to Sql generated classes, to illustrate them they look similar to this: public class Client { public int ClientID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } public class Site { public int SiteID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } public class User { public int UserID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public int? ClientID { get; set; } public EntityRef<Client> Client { get; set; } public int? SiteID { get; set; } public EntityRef<Site> Site { get; set; } } The 'User' has a relationship with the 'Client' and 'Site . The User class has nullable ClientIDs and SiteIDs because the admin users are not bound to a Client or Site. Now I have a view where a user can edit a 'User' object, the view has fields for all the 'User' properties. When the form is submitted, the appropiate 'Save' action is called in my UserController: public ActionResult Save(User user, FormCollection form) { //form['SiteID'] == 1 //user.SiteID == 1 //form['ClientID'] == 1 //user.ClientID == null } The problem here is that the ClientID is never set, it is always null, even though the value is in the FormCollection. To figure out whats going wrong I set breakpoints for the ClientID and SiteID getters and setters in the Linq to Sql designer generated classes. I noticed the following: SiteID is being set, then ClientID is being set, but then the Client EntityRef property is being set with a null value which in turn is setting the ClientID to null too! I don't know why and what is trying to set the Client property, because the Site property setter is never beeing called, only the Client setter is being called. Manually setting the ClientID from the FormCollection like this: user.ClientID = int.Parse(form["ClientID"].ToString()); throws a 'ForeignKeyReferenceAlreadyHasValueException', because it was already set to null before. The only workaround I have found is to extend the generated partial User class with a custom method: Client = default(EntityRef<Client>) but this is not a satisfying solution. I don't think it should work like this? Please enlighten me someone. So far Linq to Sql is driving me crazy! Best regards

I tried: $("tr td:not(:last)").css("background-color","red"); //changing color just as a test... But instead of all cells but the last on each row being changed, all cells but the very last one in the table are selected. Similarly, if I change it to: $("tr td:last").css("background-color","red"); the only one that changes is the very last cell. How do I choose the last (or not last) of each row?

  I am using Symfony 1.3.2 on Ubuntu. I have written a little helper function (statsfoo) that prints out summary statistics about an item. In both instances, the raw number (&9830) was displayed in the page. I want to display the diamond instead. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this?

  I am using a lot of my own validation methods to compare the data from one association to the other. I've noticed that I'm constantly checking that my associations aren't nil before trying to call anything on them, but I am also validating their presence, and so I feel that my nil checks are redundant. Here's an example: class House < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :enterance, :class => Door has_one :exit, :class => Door validates_presence_of :enterance, :exit validate :not_a_fire_hazard def not_a_fire_hazard if enterance && exit && enterance.location != exit.location errors.add_to_base('If there is a fire you will most likely die') return false end end end I feel like I am repeating myself by checking the existence of enterance and exit within my own validation. Is there a more "The Rails Way" to do this?
