    Hi all Recently i asked two questions (1 and 2) about using OpenType features in programs written by python and .net languages, but didn't get an answer. i realized there is no way to change text rendering engines of operating systems, or force them to use OpenType. so now want to implement my own. such a program that: provides a text engine that receives glyph shapes from otf and ttf files and renders them in sequence of glyphs in text. generates all of OTL features can be used in other parts of applications like controls and components of .NET or python GUI libraries. if python and .net languages are not suitable in this situation, aware me about other programming languages or tools. comments and answers about text rendering system of common Operating Systems, or designing text engines compatible with unicode 5.02 protocol are welcomed.

    I'd like to use stylesheet instead of hard-coding HTML so that text within cells are aligned vertically, ie. text starts at the upper left-hand corner.     I'm getting in trouble. I'm trying to emulate the call Application.Run using Application.DoEvents... this sounds bad, and then I accept also alternative solutions to my question... I have to handle a message pump like Application.Run does, but I need to execute code before and after the message handling. Pratically I have a list of Kernel classes, which runs in separate threads, these threads handle a Form for rendering in OpenGL. I need to synchronize all the Kernel threads using a barrier, and this work perfectly. Of course, I need to handle Form messages in the main thread (Main routine), for every Form created, and indeed I call Application.DoEvents() to do the job. Now I have to modify the snippet above to have a common Form (simple dialog box) without consuming the 100% of CPU calling Application.DoEvents(), as Application.Run does. The goal should be to have the snippet above handle messages when arrives, and issue a rendering (releasing the barrier) only when necessary, without trying to get the maximum FPS; there should be the possibility to switch to a strict loop to render as much as possible. How could it be possible? Note: the snippet above must be executed in the Main routine, since the OpenGL context is created on the main thread. Moving the snippet in a separated thread and calling Application.Run is quite unstable and buggy...

  • Obey the MediaBox/CropBox in PDF when using ghostscript to render a PDF to a png

    I've been using ghostscript to convert my single figure plots rendered in PDF to png: gswin32c -sDEVICE=png16m -r300x300 -sOutputFile=junk.png -dBATCH -dNOPAUSE Figure_001-a.pdf This works in the sense I get a png out and it contians the plot. But it contains a huge amount of white space as well (an example source image: http://cdsweb.cern.ch/record/1258681/files/Figure_001-a.pdf). If you view it in Acrobat you'll note there is no white space around the plot. If you use the above command line you'll find the plot is only about 1/3 of the space. When doing the same thing with an eps file I run into the same problem. However, there is the command-line parameter -dEPSCrop that one can pass to get the PS rendering engine to pay attention to the BoundingBox. I need the similar argument for rendering PDF's. I was not able to find it in docs (nor even the EPSCrop, actually).

  • X-ming, Ubuntu apps - getting the Ubuntu style/theme to load

    I am running X-ming on Windows 7 and using putty to ssh into an Ubuntu system. On the Ubuntu system I use the command: $ gnome-terminal & to display a terminal back on the Windows box. When I do this I don't get the standard Ubuntu style, i.e. dark purple background, Mono font, solid cursor (which I've configured in the Gnome Control Center.) Instead I get a very plain style - white background, blinking cursor, very small font. However, if I run gnome-control-center and then click on, say, the Keyboard icon, the terminal window will be reconfigured with the Ubuntu style with my customizations (e.g. block cursor vs. blinking cursor.) Just starting one of the control applets seems to trigger this style change. My question is: How can I trigger this style change more directly - without having to launch the Gnome Control center and launching one of the configuration applets?

  • What are some techniques to create scrollable areas?

    I'm getting started with OpenGL ES on Android and I'd looking to learn some techniques to have a game map larger than the visible area. I'm assuming I've somehow got to ensure that the system isn't rendering the entire scene, including what's outside of the visible area. I'm just not sure how I'd go about designing this! This is for simple 2D top-down tile based rendering. No real 3D except what's inherent in OpenGL ES itself. Would anyone be able to get me started on the right path? Are there options that might scale nicely when I decide to start tilting my perspective and doing 3D?

  • HTML overflow:hidden doesn't format text correctly

    I'm working on a website for an American Football team. They have these newsitems on their front page which they can manage through a CMS system. I have a problem with alligning the text inside those news items. Two of the news items look like this: As you can see, the right newsitem text are displayed nicely. But the left cuts it off really bad. You can only see the top half of the text at the last sentence. I use overflow: hidden; to make sure the text doesn't make the div or newsitem bigger. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this through HTML and CSS or should I cut it off serverside with PHP?   • Microsoft Outlook 2007 Plain Text/HTML message behaviour?

    I use MS Outlook as email client. When I receive email from certain email addresses(sender within my company/domain itself), and I use the reply button option to reply it, all the menus like - Font type, Font size, Text color, Bold, Italics, Text indentation, Bullets, numbering, are disabled. It doesn't allow me to use any of the above features. This happens only for some email id's where I receive mail from. Not all. Then when I checked in the message properties, it was Plain Text , rather than HTML. But shouldn't outlook allow me the formatting of the messages I reply/compose based on My settings which are HTML? How can I enable to have Rich text formatting enabled while I reply to a text mail?

  • Firefox 4 is displaying all text as "bold"

    I installed Firefox 4 this morning excited to checkout some of the new HTML 5 features that have been implemented and found that all text was displayed in a bold font. Here is the comparison with what Firefox 4 is displaying on my machine and Chrome. It is getting really annoying. So far I've... Emptied the cache/history/etc. Re-installed the various core fonts (Arial, Courier, Times New Roman, etc.) Checked the font defaults in FF4. The interesting part to me is that I had FF3.6x on this machine with no problems whatsoever and now this. Any ideas? System Description Windows 7 (x64) Update I just found out that this is happening in IE9 (final) as well. Must be something with the system fonts. Like I said before, this wasn't happening pre-FF4.

    Hi, I am working on a REST based interface where people get a json file. The client needs to access the file from another Domain. I use jsonp which works so far. My problem is the rendering in Grails. At the moment I use the 'as JSON' to marshalling the object: render "${params.jsoncallback}(${user as JSON})" The Json file getting to the client inclused all attributes, incluing the id and class, which I do not want to have in there. In case it is not jsonp, I do it this way, which works great: render(contentType:'text/json'){ userName user.userName userImage user.userImage : : } So how do I get the id and class attributes out of the json when rendering "user as JSON"?     I've been using linux mint 7 for a couple of weeks now and I'm pretty happy with it, but I wanted to try out other desktops, e.g. KDE/Xfce I'm not sure if it's KDE's fault of Xfce's, but firefox's font rendering sucks now, it renders jagged/aliased fonts. I'm using xfce right now, My Xfce settings Manager > appearance > fonts settings roughly look like this: Default Font: Sans | 9 Rendring : [x] Enable anti-aliasing Hinting: None Sub-pixel Order: None But it's as if firefox ignores these settings!

  • Can't paste symbol from Character viewer in Mac to Photoshop

    This is extremely annoying: I want to paste in a special symbol in Photoshop using the Character Viewer in Mac. I understand that there are some fonts that do not support these symbols, but when I paste this symbol in Photoshop, it appears as an unknown symbol (similar to this: ? ), and I can't even change the font (to anything), it skips back to Myriad Pro. I found a stupid solution to this: using the arrows to change fonts - this seems to work, but still Photoshop doesn't show all fonts that are available in Character Viewer under Font Variation Have you experienced this? I can't remember if it was the same with Windows, but I know there were some bugs too.

  • Dynamics CRM 2013 rich text editor

    I am using Dynamics CRM 2013. How does one apply the rich text editor styling seen on the description field on the email form to other multiple line text fields? Viewing the source code it is obvious that the system is treating the rich text field very differently from the normal multiple line text fields in that instead of rendering a textarea it is rendering a table with an embedded iframe. In CRM 2011, I have used extensions that wrap up the TinyMCE editor but they were never very effective. It seems odd that I can't just check a box to do this to any text field in the settings when the behaviour is obviously built in. Thanks in advance. Richard.

  • How to subString a block of user generated HTML while preserving formatting?

    I'd like to create the typical preview paragraph with a [read more] link. Problem is, the content that I'd like to SubString() contains text and html, written by a user with a WYSIWYG editor. Of course, I check to make sure the string is not null or empty, then SubString() it, problem is that I could end up breaking the html tags, throwing off the rendering of the entire site. The WYSIWYG editor doesn't seem to create perfectly formatted HTML, and many times seems to use <br /> tags instead of <p></p>, etc... basically, I can't rely on well-formed tags, etc. My workaround was to just strip out all HTML and substring the leftover text. This works, but loses any of the formatting that was in the HTML. What's the best method of SubString()'ing a block of non-well-formed HTML while maintaining HTML that won't break the rendering of the site?

    Hi guys, I'm trying to style a definition list properly. So far I've got the style that I wanted in Firefox 3.5 and IE 8 but I couldn't get IE6 and IE7 to behave properly... I've already tried any kind of hack and trickery I could possibly think of. It seems like the "clear:both" on the dt doesn't work in IE<=7... Below is the "test page" that I'm using. The markup of the definition list is built on purpose: I wanna test different scenarios such as multiple definitions or empty one. Check it in Firefox 3.5 to see how it should look like.   • How to place text on top of image in ReportViewer

    I feel very silly asking this, since it seems like it just should work, but I cannot make it work and cannot find anything in the documentation about this. The problem: I'm developing an application in Visual Studio 2010 that is utilizing ReportViewer, rendering the report locally. In the report designer, I place a textbox on top of an image. This looks fine in the designer, but when rendering the report, the textbox is rendered below the image. Now, before you suggest it, I have tried placing a textbox on top of a rectangle (or other control) with the BackgroundImage property set. This works. But: I cannot find a way to rescale the background image to fit the control. Setting a different dpi for the background image does nothing. Simply rescaling the image to a different resolution is not an option, since I eventually want to print the report. Does anybody have a solution to this?

    Hi, I have a tricky problem and I'm not sure where in the view rendering process to attempt this. I am building a simple blog/CMS in MVC and I would like to inject a some html (preferably a partial view) into the page if the user is logged in as an admin (and therefore has edit privileges). I obviously could add render partials to master pages etc. But in my system master pages/views are the "templates" of the CMS and therefore should not contain CMS specific <% % markup. I would like to hook in to some part of the rendering process and inject the html myself. Does anyone have any idea how to do this in MVC? Where would be the best point, ViewPage, ViewEngine?   • ASP.NET - Call required field validator before AJAX modalpopup, client side

    I have an ASP.NET/C# application. The user fills out a form with required fields, then clicks a submit button. An AJAX popup message is then displayed, and if they confirm, their information is posted back to the server. The problem is that the AJAX popup is fired BEFORE the req validator. I need to interrupt this and run the req validator, and then if successful show the popup. I know the req validator is working, because if you cancel the popup message, the req text is shown next to the fields.     I'm using jQuery to change the HTML of a tag, and the new HTML can be a very long string. $("#divToChange").html(newHTML); I then want to select elements created in the new HTML, but if I put the code immediately following the above line it seems to create a race condition with a long string where the changes that html() is making may not necessarily be finished rendering. In that case, trying to select the new elements won't always work. What I want to know is, is there an event fired or some other way of being notified when changes to html() have finished rendering ? I came across the jQuery watch plugin, which works alright as workaround but it's not ideal. Is there a better way ?
