• DOM: element created with cloneNode(true) missing element when added to DOM

  I'm creating a tree control and I'm attempting to use a parent element as a template for its children. To this end I'm using the element.cloneNode(true) method to deep clone the parent element. However when I insert the cloned element into the DOM it is missing certain inner elements despite having an outerHTML value identical to its parent. Surprisingly I observe the same behavior is in IE, Firefox, and Chrome leading me to believe that it is by design. This is the HTML for the node I'm attempting to clone. <SPAN class=node><A class=nodeLink href="/SparklerRestService2.aspx?q={0}" name=http://dbpedia.org/data/Taylor_Swift.rdf> <IMG class=nodeIcon alt="Taylor Swift" src="images/node.png"><SPAN class=nodeText>Taylor Swift</SPAN></A><SPAN class=nodeDescription>Taylor Swift is a swell gall who is realy great.</SPAN></SPAN> Once I've cloned the node using cloneNode(true) I examine the outerHTML property and find that it is indeed identical to the original. <SPAN class=node><A class=nodeLink href="/SparklerRestService2.aspx?q={0}" name=http://dbpedia.org/data/Taylor_Swift.rdf><IMG class=nodeIcon alt="Taylor Swift" src="images/node.png"><SPAN class=nodeText>Taylor Swift</SPAN></A><SPAN class=nodeDescription>Taylor Swift is a swell gall who is realy great.</SPAN></SPAN> However when I insert it into the DOM and inspect the result using FireBug I find that the element has been transformed: <span class="node" style="top: 0px; left: 0px;"<a class=nodeLink href="/SparklerRestService2.aspx?q={0}" name=http://dbpedia.org/data/Taylor_Swift.rdf>Taylor Swift</a><span class="nodeDescription">It's great</span></span> Notice that the grandchildren of the node (the image tag and the span tag surrounding "Taylor Swift") are missing, although strangely the great grandchild "Taylor Swift" text node has made it into the tree. Can anyone shed some light on this behavior? Why would nodes disappear after insertion into the DOM, and why am I seeing the same result in all three major browser engines?

• MySQL Connection Timeout Issue - Grails Application on Tomcat using Hibernate and ORM

  Hi Guys I have a small grails application running on Tomcat in Ubuntu on a VPS. I use MySql as my datastore and everything works fine unless I leave the application for more than half a day (8 hours?). I did some searching and apparently this is the default wait_timeout in mysql.cnf so after 8 hours the connection will die but Tomcat won't know so when the next user tries to view the site they will see the connection failure error. Refreshing the page will fix this but I want to get rid of the error altogether. For my version of MySql (5.0.75) I have only my.cnf and it doesn't contain such a parameter, In any case changing this parameter doesn't solve the problem. This Blog Post seems to be reporting a similar error but I still don't fully understand what I need to configure to get this fixed and also I am hoping that there is a simpler solution than another third party library. The machine I'm running on has 256MB ram and I'm trying to keep the number of programs/services running to a minimum. Is there something I can configure in Grails / Tomcat / MySql to get this to go away? • Using Freepascal\Lazarus JSON Libraries

  I'm hoping for a bit of a "simpletons" demo\explanation for using Lazarus\Freepascal JSON parsing. I've asked a question here but all the replies are "read this" and none of them are really helping me get a grasp because the examples are bit too in-depth and I'm seeking a very simple example to help me understand how it works. In brief, my program reads an untyped binary file in chunks of 4096 bytes. The raw data then gets converted to ASCII and stored in a string. It then goes through the variable looking for certain patterns, which, it turned out, are JSON data structures. • Deleting JPA entity containing @CollectionOfElements throws ConstraintViolationException

  I'm trying to delete entities which contain lists of Integer, and I'm getting ConstraintViolationExceptions because of the foreign key on the table generated to hold the integers. It appears that the delete isn't cascading to the mapped collection. I've done quite a bit of searching, but all of the examples I've seen on how to accomplish this are in reference to a mapped collection of other entities which can be annotated; here I'm just storing a list of Integer.   I have created the simplest web service in c#: public void AddData(DataSet ds) The generated schema (Wsdl) looks like this: <s:schema xmlns:s="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> ... <s:element ref="s:schema" /> ... </s:schema> Note the schema does not contain any import/include elements. I am trying to load this schema to a c# System.Xml.XmlSchema and add it to System.Xml.XmlSchemaSet: var set = new XmlSchemaSet(); var fs = new FileStream(@"c:\temp\schema.xsd", FileMode.Open); var s = XmlSchema.Read(fs, null); set.Add(s); set.Compile(); The last line throws this exception: The 'http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema:schema' element is not declared. It kind of makes sense: The schema generated by .Net uses the "s:schema" type which is declared in a schema which is not imported. Why does .Net create a non valid schema? How to compile the schema anyway? Whay I did is download the schema in http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema and added it to the XmlSchemaSet also. This did not work since that online schema contains DTD definition. I had to manually remove it and now all works. Does this make sense or am I missing something?

• OData / WCF Data Service - HTTP 500 Error

  I have created an OData/WCF service using Visual Studio 2010 on Windows XP SP3 with all current patches installed. When I click on "view in browser", the service opens and I see the 3 tables from my EF model. However, when I add a table name ("Commands" in this case) to the end of the query string, rather than seeing the data from the table, I get an HTTP 500 error. (This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.). I have not only followed the examples from 2 sites, but have also tried running the sample application that the blog poster sent me (that works on his machine), and still am not having any luck.   I've browsed all of the discussions here on StackOverflow regarding NTLM and Java, and I can't seem to find the answer. I'll try and be much more specific. Here's some code that returns a client stub that (I hope) is configured for NTLM authentication: ServiceStub getService() { try { ServiceStub stub = new ServiceStub( "http://myserver/some/path/to/webservices.asmx"); // this service is hosted on IIS List<String> ntlmPreferences = new ArrayList<String>(1); ntlmPreferences.add(HttpTransportProperties.Authenticator.NTLM); HttpTransportProperties.Authenticator ntlmAuthenticator = new HttpTransportProperties.Authenticator(); ntlmAuthenticator.setPreemptiveAuthentication(true); ntlmAuthenticator.setAuthSchemes(ntlmPreferences); ntlmAuthenticator.setUsername("me"); ntlmAuthenticator.setHost("localhost"); ntlmAuthenticator.setDomain("mydomain"); Options options = stub._getServiceClient().getOptions(); options.setProperty(HTTPConstants.AUTHENTICATE, ntlmAuthenticator); options.setProperty(HTTPConstants.REUSE_HTTP_CLIENT, "true"); stub._getServiceClient().setOptions(options); return stub; } catch (AxisFault e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return null; } This returns a valid SerivceStub object. • Explicit script end tag always converted to self-closing

  I'm using xslt to transform xml to an aspx file. In the xslt, I have a script tag to include a jquery.js file. To get it to work with IE, the script tag must have an explicit closing tag.
