• emacs exporting org file as PDF in batch mode

  I'm trying to export a bunch of org mode files to PDF using emacs in batch mode. So far, only export to html seems to work. When I export to html I see the following - U:\tmpd:\programs\emacs-23.1\bin\emacs.exe -batch --visit=Changelog.org --funcall org-export-as-html-batch OVERVIEW Exporting... Exporting... Saving file u:/tmp/Changelog.html... Wrote u:/tmp/Changelog.html HTML export done, pushed to kill ring and clipboard However, there is no function like org-export-as-pdf-batch and so I tried the following. U:\tmpd:\programs\emacs-23.1\bin\emacs.exe -batch --visit=Changelog.org -eval "(org-export-as-pdf \"Changelog.pdf\")" OVERVIEW Exporting to PDF... Exporting to LaTeX... Wrong type argument: number-or-marker-p, "Changelog.pdf" Any ideas on how to export to PDF? My org-mode version is 6.35i with on Emacs 23.1. I'm on WinXP.

• .htaccess with public folder

  I have a directory structure with the following on localhost: http://localhost/testing/ A directory structure exists inside of testing as follows: /testing/public /testing/public/index.php /testing/public/img /testing/public/css ..etc for the js and swf directories A .htaccess file is inside the testing folder and the contents are as follows: Options +FollowSymLinks RewriteEngine on RewriteBase /testing/ RewriteRule ^public$ public/ [R,QSA] RewriteRule ^public/$ public/index.php?state=public [L,QSA] RewriteRule ^stackoverflow$ stackoverflow/ [R,QSA] RewriteRule ^stackoverflow/$ public/index.php?state=stackoverflow[L,QSA] I am using PHP and inside of the /testing/public/index.php file I wanted to test that the $_GET['state'] is indeed saving the variable. When I try to test out: http://localhost/testing/public $_GET['state'] is not found at all BUT http://localhost/testing/stackoverflow does indeed echo out that $_GET['state'] equals 'stackoverflow'. What am I missing here??? Why is it that I cannot get the state=public in the first link? Thanks for the help!

• I want to version control my entire slice

  I'm renting a slice (i.e., a VPS) from Slicehost. I've a spent a day or two filling up /usr with my favorite packages, /etc with configs and init scripts, and so on. Now I want to: save this whole setup somewhere (e.g., to load onto another machine). see what changes I've made to which files revert changes, tag revisions, and all that other good version control stuff Saving a disk image gives me (1), but not (2) and (3). Using Subversion (svn import / svn://someotherhost) might give me all three, but I expect problems if I actually try to check a project out into / and maintain .svn directories in root-owned areas. And to load my setup onto a fresh slice, I'd need to install an svn client on it first. Is there a good way to do what I want to do?

• asp.net compare validators to allow comma and dot (both!) as decimal separator

  I am using a compare validator, which validates that the entered number is a valid double and also validates it against a given value (greater than zero). I am validating money amounts. Because of the location where the app is used, the locale sets the comma as the decimal separator. The problem is that when a user enters the value using the numeric keyboard, the number gets written with the dot as decimal separator, and is rejected by the validation. I'd like to have this validation done before triggering a postback (like a customvalidator would) and accepting both separators. Any ideas? Thanks

• Has anyone run VxWorks on a desktop PC as a target

  Can I use a desktop PC to run VxWorks as the operating system? In other words, can a standard PC be used as a target processor? I'm not talking about hosting Workbench and a VxSim on the same machine. Rather, I'm considering running just VxWorks (and my application) on a PC. It seems feasible as long as we can configure a board support package, and write or obtain device drivers for the I/O cards on the PCI bus. What I wonder is, has anyone actually done this? I'm interested in saving a bit of money on hardware over a single board computer and cPCI backplane by using a spare desktop sitting around unused. The application is for a test set to be used in a lab. So, I don't need the portability, etc. of a typical embedded processor.

• Launching Vim via Lua

  I'm writing a simple little Lua commandline app that will build a static website. I'm storing my fragments in a sqlite database. Retrieving the data from the db is straightforward as is saving it; my question comes from editing the data. Is there an elegant way to pipe the data from Lua to vim? Can vim edit a memory buffer and return it? I was planning on launching the editor via os.execute('vim') but only after grabbing a temporary file handle and dumping the database output into that. I would like to have to avoid touching the filesystem that way but that is my contingency plan.

• How can I get a value out of a jQuery object?

  I am returning some data (example below) and saving it to a jQuery object (or is this an array and I am confusing the two?) when I log the variable that is the object it has the values I am looking for but how do I access the data inside this object? code $itemPosition = { 'top': $item.offset().top, 'left':$item.offset().left }, console.log($itemPosition); This would log out (the in this case expected) top: 0 & left: 490. But how can I know work with those values? Also, while this it is probably obvious I am still in the early stages of learning jQuery/Javascript rest assured that reference books are on their way, but so far the SO community has been invaluable to my learning, so thanks for reading! J.

How can I access object variables of the method host inside the decorator? Do i have to define the decorator inside the same class to get access?

  I am creating an excel report in vb.net using the office interop. When the report is completed I am saving the excel file on the C drive. The users have asked to save file anywhere they want not just the c drive. Can someone give me some code to popup an opend file dialog in asp.net? I want the dialog to popup in a saveAs in ASP.NET. I know how to do it in win forms, but I am creating an excel report in asp.net and calling the worksheet objects SaveAs property that excepts a fileName. • Change input text to regular text on blur and ability to edit jQuery

  I'm creating a form where I'm eliminating the use of a save button. The form is made up of input text boxes and textareas. After the user enters data into the input field, I want to trigger an onBlur function and change the input into a span that contains the information that the user entered. I also want to have the ability to edit this information, so if the user clicks on the newly created span with text, it will turn back into the input field with the current information for their editing pleasure. For reference, I'm looking to have a functionality pretty much like on editing a photo title on Flickr. If possible, I'd also like to have the textbox show "saving..." for half a second after the blur to reflect interaction with server.

• Overview of PHP shorthand

  I've been programming in PHP for years now, but I've never learned how to use any shorthand. I come across it from time to time in code and have a hard time reading it, so I'd like to learn the different shorthand that exists for the language sot hat I can read it and start saving time/lines by using it, but I can't seem to find a comprehensive overview of all of the shorthand. • Nhibernate not tracking changes

  I'm using nhibernate and it appears that changes to my new object are not persisted. After creating and saving an object I then modify it and commit the transaction. However none of the modifications are saved. The strange thing is this code was working previously and I have no idea what could cause this. Nothing was changed that's obviously related.. As an attempted work around I saved the object later in the procedure after all the changes where made however I was greeted with an Assertion Failure collection [] was not processed by flush. Any ideas?

• Jagged Edge Arrays in PHP

  I want to store some data in (I guess a semi-2, semi-3d array) in PHP (5.3) What I need to do is store data about each floor like this: Floor Num of Spots Handicap Motorcyle Other 1 100 array(15,16,17) array (47,62) array (99,100) 2 100 array(15,16,17) array (47,62) array (99,100) and on The problem is, is if the Handicap+Motorcyle+Other were ints, I could just store the data in a 2d array. However, they aren't. So I was thinking I could make something almost like a 3D array, with the first two columns only being in 2D. The other thought I had was making a 2D array and for columns 3,4, and 5 instead of saving as array(15,16) //save like 1516 And then split at two digits (1 digit array numbers would be prefaced with a 0). However, I am wondering about the limit of the length of a string, because if I decide to move to a 3 digit length number in the array, like array(100, 104), and I need to store alot of numbers, I am thinking I am going to quickly exceed the max.

• How do I stop image spam from being uploaded to my (future) site?

  I have in mind an idea for a generally accessible site that needs to allow images to be uploaded. But I'm stymied on how to prevent image spam: porn, ads in image form, etc. Assumptions: I'm assuming that the spammers are clever, even human. I'm skeptical of the efficacy of image analysis software. I do not have the resources to approve all uploads manually. I am willing to spend money on the solution -- within reason. This site will be location-aware, if that helps. How does Flickr do it or imgur? Or do they?

  What's the best disassembler tool for the .NET reflector? By best I mean, saving a .NET assembly in a disassembled state in most readable, most likely to compile with fewer changes. The current one I use doesn't show simplified enumeration but shows the full IEnumerable implementations with MoveNext, etc with member names like: this.<4_state CS$<9_CachedAnonymousMethodDelegate3 Btw I am not trying to steal code, just trying out certain things on an already existing assembly instead of writing a similar thing from scratch. In the end, it's what I will learn from this that will stay, not the modified assembly.

• Advice needed: What tech expertise do I need to accomplish my goal?

  I have a business plan & money to hire a developer - the essentials involve simple online games for children (played via traditional computer over the internet) such that their scores are uploaded to a database that can be viewed via a nice portal. What I don't know is: what technologies I would want my developer to know (the only somewhat unusual requirement I have is that the games have relatively accurate timing of keypresses/mouse presses) how much I should expect to pay (in general, what is the appropriate range) how many hours a program of the complexity of a simple tower defense -type game should take to develop (to be clear, the idea is not to implement TD, but rather other games of similar complexity) whether I should go with capable acquaintances, some online kind of online web-dev bidding site, or just try to find a capable undergraduate at the local university who I can wow with his/her first big paycheck, how I should communicate the software's specifications to my hired developer...   We all seen a bunch of these? Mostly for IDE's but also for vim and emacs. Kate is (only) a text editor (an awesome one) but it has a ton of options plus a number of plugins, so its hard to know all of it well. How do use the Kate text editor? Please share your workflow and help me and others learn some of the cool tricks you use. I'll start I use the built in terminal a lot opening files quickly, and using it as an enhanced haskell repl with ghci (since ghci doesn't allow you all to just put in all kinds of haskell code). Also use split views to quickly compare files (especially different versions of the same file). Also the auto-complete maybe simple(more use for saving typing time then remembering functions) but it works really well for that. Also if You highlight something and hit a start [/{/( it puts it in between brackets rather then replacing it with a bracket(why the hell do a lot of IDEs not have this feature).

• Performing AJAX calls on the "new" controller

  In my rails app, I want to have a sortable list as part of an object creation. The best practice suggested Railscast adds the acts_as_list plugin and then initiates AJAX calls to update item position. However, AJAX calls won't work on an unsaved model, which is the situation with new. One solution would be to save the model immediately on new and redirect to edit. This would have a nice side effect of persisting any change so the user could resume work should he be interrupted. However, this solution adds the unwanted complexity of saving an invalid model, compromising rails' validation processes. Is there any better way to allow AJAX + validations without going into too much work?

• How to find a programmer for my project?

  I'm building a web application to generate monthly subscription fees, but I've quickly realised I'm going to need some help with the project to finish it this century. I don't have any money upfront for a freelancer and every website I've found takes bids for project work. The tasks that need doing are flexible too because I can do whatever the other coder doesn't want to. I'm also happy to guide the developer and offer tips for performance/security/etc etc. My question is; how do I go about finding someone to work with on a profit-share basis? I'm sure there are a billion people like me with the "next killer app" but I genuinely believe in it. Can anyone offer some advice? Thanks in advance! EDIT: I guess the trick is to find someone passionate enough about the subject as I am. Where would I find someone? Are there websites that broker profit-share deals on programming work?
