  • keymapping when ssh-ing from mac to linux

    I'm using Lion to ssh -X to a linux machine and work on some code thats located on it. I open up an editor on the remote machine (usually matlab) and program on it. My problem is that in the linux there is no concept of the command key. So if I want to copy some text from a local window to the editor that runs on the remote, I need to to command-c to copy, and then control-v to paste. This obviously drives me nuts. I was wondering if there is a way to change the keymapping such that the command key will be recognized as a control key on the remote processes. Or is this something I need to change on my local (mac) X configuration?

  • Prevent elevation (UAC) for an application that doesn't need it.

    Having recently migrated from Vista 32bit to Windows 7 64bit, one of my programs now requires admin rights. I use a rather exotic text editor (Crimson Editor). Although not designed for Vist/Win7 it worked well with Vista. But under Windows 7, the program executable gets this UAC shield added to its icon (even though the "Run as administrator" flag in the compatibility tab is not set) and prompts for elevation whenever I run it. How does Win7 determine that this notepad-like application needs admin rights? How can I override this false heuristic?

  • Free Markdown JS viewer

    I'd like to use Markdown for documents to be exchanged with a colleague of mine. The ideal workflow would be IMHO editing the source in any plaintext editor while simultaneously viewing it in a browser. The client viewer should be able to redraw the text after each save automatically, and ideally even always switch to the most recent source file (so I don't need to navigate there manually). It'd be nice if I could (was allowed) modify the viewer a bit, things like using trailing spaces for line breaks are really terrible (I don't see them, my editor strips them, git complains about them, etc.). I'm interested in a software capable of this and easy to modify, and also in your opinions on the described workflow.

    Not quite sure how to ask this :) But what I need is to have some forms online that people can fill out, like registration form etc. They will then submit it and be emailed it as well as me and have it stored in a database. Is there a way for the files to be PDFs? Can I have an editable PDF form online? Thank you.

  • Binding Entity Framework Collections Simply Using ASP.NET MVC

    To begin with: Using Entity Framework v4.0. ASP.NET MVC 2.0. Visual Studio 2010. I have a model that consists simply of an order & order items. What I want to do is simply bind that model without too much hassle where possible (avoiding type converters, etc). Simply the model looks like this: public class Order { public int ID { get; set; } public string OrderNumber { get; set; } public EntityCollection<OrderItem> Items { get; set; } } public class OrderItem { public int ID { get; set; } public string Qty { get; set; } } This is as simple as I want to keep it. This model is coming directly from the code generated by the entity framework generator. I would prefer to use the model directly from the entity framework (I know there are views saying this is a bad thing, but alas).     Hi, I have a small partial Create Person form in a page above a table of results. SO RenderPartialToString So, is there any way I can hand my javascript the out of the box PartialView("PersonForm") as its returned from my ajax.form? Can I pass some addition info as a Json array so I can tell if its pass or fail and maybe add a message? UPDATE I can now pass the HTML of a PartialView to my javascript but I need to pass some additional data pairs like ServerValidation : true/false and ActionMessage : "you have just created a Person Bill".   • Can gedit on mac be used to edit files over ssh?

    I use a linux machine at work and a mac at home. I can ssh from my machine at home to my work machine. But the only editor that I have access to on the command line then is vi, which I don't like. Is there a way to use gedit on my mac to edit files remotely over an ssh connection? This page says that it can be done, but I think that it assumes that you are using gedit on ubuntu.   • Model M Keyboard inputs incorrect characters after logging in to Fedora

    I recently bought a 24 year old IBM Model M keyboard. From what I gather, it'd been left on a shelf for the last 5 years, so you can imagine the amount of dust dirt and crap that was on it. Before cleaning it, I plugged it in to my laptop (running Fedora 17) using a PS/2 to USB adapter. What I found was, while it still works, the keys I press don't correspond to what is displayed on the screen. So for example, when I type S on the keyboard, I get ß display on the screen instead. At the time, I put this down to the adapter not working properly. Since then, I stripped the keys off the keyboard and cleaned the whole thing. It looks like it's just come out of a box! I then plugged it in to my computer (also running Fedora 17) via a standard PS/2 plug. The computer loaded up to the login screen, and I typed in my password. Pressed enter, and I logged straight in to my machine. At this point, I opened up a text editor and started typing some stuff. To my horror, the keystrokes I was entering weren't coming up as intended. What came up instead were characters that would map to the pressed key but only under a different keyboard language setting. I opened up a program to see what keyboard language had been selected, and the correct one for the keyboard was selected (which is UK in my case). I opened up a window that would show what characters mapped to what keys, and I pressed every single key on the keyboard, and every corresponding block representing each key lit up. I went back to the text editor to try again, but I was still getting these random characters. Whats more is that the backspace key would not work, although in the other utility it would flash when pressed. What I know is that at the login screen the keyboard must have entered the correct characters, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to log in. Further more, keys that don't respond while using a text editor as sending signals to the computer, as illustrated in that keyboard utility. The question is why random characters are displayed when they really shouldn't be? Would this be a hardware fault or a software issue?

  • Modifying Windows Shortcut .lnk file

    here as it's locked over there; I hope it belongs in this forum; Is it possible to open .lnk (windows shortcut) in a hex editor, and change the absolut shortcut path into a relative one? Can we do this is windows? The edit command in cmd can open link files but it's difficult to read and edit. Is there any hex editor in windows that can open lnk file and allow me to edit it? Do I need to take it to linux or does Linux recognize .lnk as a shortcut too? I want to do this not only for running exe files, but also for pointing to folders (that is, shortcut to folders). A batch file which executes explorer.exe with the target folder as parameter can do this actually, but I want to know if there is any way to actually edit the data in the .lnk file itself

  • Windows 7 is swallowing a keystroke combination

    I'm using the gnu emacs editor under windows 7. I would like to bind a particular keystroke combination to an editor command. That combination is "control key" + ")", i.e., "control key" + "shift key" + "0". However, it appears this keystroke combination is being swallowed by the OS somehow. Using emacs's "view-lossage" feature indicates that it is never seeing the key. This happens even in safe mode. It does not happen under windows XP. Anyone know of a way to fix / diagnose what's happening?

  • Connecting to remote mysql database with API

    I am designing a desktop application in C#, which needs to be connected to my online mysql database. I tried to give access in control panel a "%" which means from any IP, but it is not working. May be the hosting provider (bigrock) not allowing that. Alternatively, I am trying to write some code in online on PHP which will get the "sql" as parameter and returns the output as JSON format using json_encode. Is there any alternate methods which is better approach.

  • How to configure Notepad++ (Scintilla) to write below EOF after EOL [on hold]

    Is it possible to configure scintilla to "brake" EOL/EOF while writing ? Now, if I want to begin writing in a column after EOL, I use ALT+left mouse button and start typing after click. No idea how to begin writing below EOF. Pressing Enter key many times is the only method now. Other explanation: If You open a new document, doesnt matter what kind of (php/txt etc) all You have is just one line. If You want to write in line 5 - must press Enter 5 times. Every other editor I know (IDE in Builder C++/MultiEdit) "ignore" eof and you can write anywhere in document. Because of php/html I've found notepad++ as a best editor but I'd like to "brake" limitations of (probably) scintilla

  • Can a python view template be made to be 'safe/secure' if I make it user editable?

So they can put if tags, looping tags etc., but ONLY for specific objects that I want to inject into the template.   • Clickonce appref.ms argument

    I have a clickonce application that is available online or offline. The program takes an argument. When online I pass the argument on the url like so "url?argument" and it works well. Offline i start a process with the startmenu link to the application. My question is, is it possible to pass an argument to my application via this link? I guess I could somehow work out the location of the application file but is there an alternative?
