• On an SVN repository, can you ignore all extensions except one?

  Our need is to store only axcrypted (.AXX) documents in an SVN repository, and we want to prevent accidental uploading of the non-encrypted documents. Is there a way to do this on SVN server? We would like to enforce this .AXX only policy on server-side of the SVN, so we don't have to rely on the ignore list of all our SVN clients.

• Creating a really public Windows network share

  I want to create a shared folder under Windows (actually, Windows XP, Vista, and Win 7) which can be mounted from a linux system without prompting for a username/password. But before attempting this, I first wanted to establish that this works between two Windows 7 machines. So, on machine A (The server that will hold the public share), I created a folder and set its permissions such that Everyone has read/write access. Then I visited Control Panel - Network and Sharing Center - Advanced Sharing Settings and then selected "Turn off password protected sharing". Then, on machine B (The client that wants to access the public share with no username/password prompt), I tried to "map network driver" and I was immediately prompted by a password prompt. Some search on google suggested changing "Acconts: Limit local account use of blank passwords to console logon only" to "Disabled". Tried that, no luck, still getting username/password prompt. If I enter the username/password, I am not prompted for it again and can use the share as long as the session is active. But still, I really need to access the share without any username/password transaction whatsoever and this is not just a convenience related thing. Here is the actual reason: The device that will access this windows network share is an embedded system running uclinux. It will mount this share locally and then play media files. Its only user interface is a javascript based web page. So, if there is going to be any username/password transaction, I would have to ask the user to enter them over the web page, which will be ridiculously insecure and completely exposed to packet sniffing. After hours of doing experiments, I have found one way to make this happen, but I am not really very fond of it... I first create a new user (shareuser) and give it a password (sharepass). Then I open Group Policy Editor and set "Deny log on locally" to "A\shareuser". Then, I create a folder on A and share it so that shareuser has Read access to it. This way, shareuser cannot login to A, but can access the shared folder. And, if someone discovers the shareuser/sharepass through network sniffing, they can just access the shared folder, but can't logon to A. The same thing can be achieved by enabling the Guest user and then going to Group Policy Editor and deleting the "Guest" from the "Deny access to this computer from the network" setting. Again, Guest can mount the public share, but logging in to A as Guest won't be possible, because Guest is already not allowed to log in by default. So my question would be, how can I create a network share that is truly public, so that it can be mounted from a linux machine without requiring a password? Sorry for the long question, but I wanted to explain the reason for really needing this...

  Hi all-- We're upgrading from SQL Server 2005 to 2008. Almost every database in the 2005 instance is set to 2000 compatibility mode, but we're jumping to 2008. Our testing is complete, but what we've learned is that we need to get faster at it. I've discovered some stored procedures that either SELECT data from missing tables or try to ORDER BY columns that don't exist. Wrapping the SQL to create the procedures in SET PARSEONLY ON and trapping errors in a try/catch only catches the invalid columns in the ORDER BYs. It does not find the error with the procedure selecting data from the missing table. SSMS 2008's intellisense, however, DOES find the issue, but I can still go ahead and successfully run the ALTER script for the procedure without it complaining. So, why can I even get away with creating a procedure that fails when it runs? Are there any tools out there that can do better than what I've tried? • Windows Explorer not displaying drives (Windows 7)

  A very strange issue - Windows Explorer doesn't display the drives connected to my machine. I did make some changes to my setup a while back with the Local Group Policy Editor to disable the "Aero Shake" behavior, so I may have inadvertently enabled or disabled something related to this, but to be honest, I don't remember when the behavior actually started. Any ideas? This is a Windows 7 machine.

Of course there are simpler options like only allowing specific IP or mac addresses, but policy requires something more secure than this. So, are there any modems with 802.1x wired authentication? All my searching on this yields info about wireless.

• Why is domU faster than dom0 on IO?

  I have installed debian 7 on a physical machine. This is the configuration of the machine: 3 hard drives using RAID 5 Strip element size: 1M Read policy: Adaptive read ahead Write policy: Write Through /boot 200 MB ext2 / 15 GB ext3 SWAP 10GB LVM rest (~500GB) emphasized text I installed postgresql, created a big database (over 1GB). I have an SQL request that takes a lot of time to run (a SELECT statement, so it only reads data from the database). This request takes approximately 5.5 seconds to run. Then, I installed XEN, created a domU, with another debian distro. On this OS, I also installed postgresql, with the same database. The same SQL request takes only 2.5 seconds to run. I checked the kernel on both dom0 and domU. uname-a returns "Linux debian 3.2.0-4-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 3.2.41-2+deb7u2 x86_64 GNU/Linux" on both systems. I checked the kernel parameters, which are approximately the same. For those that are relevant, I changed their values to make them match on both systems using sysctl. I saw no changes (the requests still take the same amount of time). After this, I checked the file systems. I used ext3 on domU. Still no changes. I installed hdparm, and ran hdparm -Tt on both systems, on all my partitions on both systems, and I get similar results. Now, I am stuck, I don't know what is different, and what could be the cause of such a big difference. Additional Info: Debian runs on a Dell server PowerEdge 2950 postgresql: 9.1.9 (both dom0 and domU) xen-linux-system: 3.2.0 xen-hypervisor: 4.1 Thanks EDIT: As Krzysztof Ksiezyk suggested, it might be due to some file caching system. I ran the dd command to test both the read and write speed. And how can we "fix" it? Can we apply it to dom0? EDIT 2: I switched my virtual disk type. To do so I followed this article. I did a dd if=/dev/vg0/test1-disk of=/mnt/test1-disk.img bs=16M Then in /etc/xen/test1.cfg, I changed the disk parameter to use file: instead of phy: it should have removed the file caching, but I still get the same numbers (domU being much faster for Postgres)

  I've created a list of recipes using Listview/customcursoradapter. A custom layout includes a photo for the recipe , Now I've some problems with the performance of viewing and scrolling the Listview although it has only 10 records (Target is 150). sometimes i get this error java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget , I've tried to implement the Async task but i failed to do it.   As it is told in git-config manual, I have three files to specify git repo configuration: $GIT_DIR/config, ~/.gitconfig and $(prefix)/etc/gitconfig. Is it possible to make git read another config file (for example .gitconfig in root of the repo) after reading $GIT_DIR/config? I want it as I created git command aliases in .git/config and I would prefer to store them in repo, so I can restore them when cloning and for example.

• AD reset user passwords for a security group

  I'm not quite sure if this is possible or not, but I need to force a certain security group's users to have their passwords expire so they'll be forced to change them on next login. The reason for this is because I applied a FGPP (password policy) to this particular group in order to enforce strong passwords. Well, many users have really weak passwords and they won't be changed unless they're forced. Is there a way to do this without forcing everyone to a single password?

Most of them have this error message: Address does not pass the Sender Policy Framework Is there any way to disable that? • What's the correct SELinux type for a directory?

  If I create a new filesystem/directory off of / and I set the Linux permissions to 770 I expect the group to be able to read and write files in that directory. SELinux was preventing me from doing this until I changed the SELinux type on that directory to public_content_rw_t. If this is just a directory in which users in that group will share files is this an acceptable SELinux type or should I be using another one? Writing a custom policy seems like overkill for these purposes. Thanks

I have tried changing the port in conf/bindingservice.beans/META-INF/bindings-jboss-beans.xml: <bean class="org.jboss.services.binding.ServiceBindingMetadata"> <property name="serviceName">jboss:service=Naming</property> <property name="bindingName">RmiPort</property> <property name="port">5098</property> <property name="description">Socket Naming service uses to receive RMI requests from client proxies</property> </bean> Unfortunately, I then get the name errors with the new port number. I also installed a network monitoring tool on my box and it doesn't look like any ports are being opened when I start jboss, but it is possible, that the tool might be missing a port that is opened and then closed quickly. Any ideas what could be the problem or how to fix it?

• Roaming profile is not loaded when user's password expires and is changed

  Our password policy makes users change pw every 30 days, when this happens they sometimes find they are logged on with a local profile and none of their settings. This generally only happens when the PC was slow at logging onto the network, but in this case I know it had plenty of time to do so. I can't work out why this is happening, is it related to a slow link?

  I'm currently stacked with the web service that im creating right now. when Testing it in local it all works fine but when I try to deploy it to the web server it throws me the following error An error occurred while trying to make a request to URI '...my web service URI here....'. This could be due to attempting to access a service in a cross-domain way without a proper cross-domain policy in place, or a policy that is unsuitable for SOAP services. You may need to contact the owner of the service to publish a cross-domain policy file and to ensure it allows SOAP-related HTTP headers to be sent. This error may also be caused by using internal types in the web service proxy without using the InternalsVisibleToAttribute attribute. Is there something in Linux that is similar to group policy in windows?. For example I would like to standardize the wallpapers - have only firefox as a browser - default VLC as the media player etc etc. Thank you, any suggestions are very appreciated.

Say the IP of my machine is 10.1.3.12 and the IP of the interface is 10.1.1.190. This is where the problem starts. I ran tcpdump on the port in question and saw multiple SYNs going to the ENI with src '10.1.3.12' and destination '10.1.1.190' but didn't see even a single ACK. In my understanding if ACKs were being sent from the ENI they'd have destination as 10.1.3.12 i.e. the same as the local machine's IP and such packets will now be routed as local packets matching local routing policy: local 10.1.3.12 dev eth0 proto kernel scope host src 10.1.3.12 I'd like to send all the packets originating from 10.1.1.190 (my ENI) to go back on the same interface i.e. eth3 in this case. Contents of the nee table 10003 are: $ sudo ip route show table 10003 default via 10.1.1.1 dev eth3 I think I can do the following: I don't know if its possible but probably decrease the priority of local table so the packets match the table 10003. Use iptables to mangle these packets and update the local table route to include the mark information But I'm not sure if these are the right approaches.
