• How to switch users in a smooth way in a Point-Of-Sale system?

  I am designing a Point-Of-Sale system for a small shop. The shop just have one Point-Of-Sale but often they are one to three users (sellers) in the shop. Each user have their own user account in the system so they login and logout very often. How should I design the login/logout system in a good way? For the moment the users don't use passwords, because it takes so long time to type the password each time they login. The Platform is Windows Vista but I would like to support Windows 7 too. We use Active Directory on the Network. The system is developed in Java/Swing for the moment, but I'm thinking about to change to C#.NET/WPF. I am thinking about an SmartCard solution, but I don't know if that fits my situation. It would be more secure (which I like) but I don't know if it will be easy to implement and smooth to use, i.e. can I have the POS-system running in the background or started very quickly when the users switch? Are SmartCard solutions very expensive? (My customers are small shops) Is it preferred to use .NET or Java in a SmartCard solution? What other solutions do I have other than passwords/no passwords/smartcards? How should I design the login/logout system in a good way? Is there any good solution using SmartCards for this purpose? I would like suggested solutions both for C#.NET/WPF and Java/Swing platforms. I would like suggested solutions both for Active Directory solutions and solutions that only use one user profile in Windows. How is this problem solved in similar products? I have only seen password-solutions, but they are clumsy.

• Adapting Machine Learning Algorithms to my Problem

  i'm working on a project and need your ideas, advices. First of all, let me tell my problem. There is power button and some other keys of a machine and there is only one user has authentication to use this machine.There are no other authentication methods, the machine is in public area in a company. the machine is working with the combination of pressing power button and some other keys. The order of pressing keys is secret but we don't trust it, anybody can learn the password and can access the machine. i have the capability of managing the key hold time and also some other metrics to measure the time differences between the key such as horizantal or vertical key press times (differences). and also i can measure the hold time etc. These all means i have some inputs, Now i'm trying to get a user profile by analysing these inputs. My idea is to get the authenticated user to press the password n times and create a threshold or something similar to that. This method also can be said BIOMETRICS, anyone else who knows the machine button combination, can try the password but if he is out of this range can not get access it. How can i adapt these into my algorithms? where should i start ? i don't want to delve deep into machine learning, and also i can see the in my first try i can get false positive and false negative values really high, but i can manage it by changing my inputs. thanks.

• how to create wizard forms in ruby on rails

  I'm trying to understand the best options for pulling off a wizard form in ruby on rails. Ideally I'd like to have it so the application signup has a back and next button that allows the user to submit data in steps. So in step 1 they could fill out contact info. Once they are done they could click next and be on step 2 to fill out payment info, etc. If they make a mistake, they can click back and correct it. Some steps will be required, while others will not, but you do have to make it to the last step to submit the data to the database to sign up. They then need the ability to go back and fill out the past steps in the same fashion after completion. (example: perhaps if they clicked on a profile link they could recomplete the steps in the same fashion because they didn't want to complete all the steps right away. Maybe by being given a skip button before they completed the steps to sign up?). I also need validation to happen on what steps have been completed preventing them from moving onto the next step until corrected or completed. Option 1) I've noticed that ajax has been recommended as an option in other questions on stackoverflow. The only problem I have with it is that the user would not be able to sign up if javascript was disabled. Ideally I'd like to have it be native to ruby on rails but I'm willing to work with whatever is necessary to get it to work.

• classpath and class loading on weblogic

  Hello, I am trying to create and load dynamically classes in weblogic (10.3.2.0). It is ADF application which I deploy to the weblogic server. When I print ((GenericClassLoader)this.getClass().getClassLoader()).getFinderClassPath() I see the path to my directory (of course not just this path) C:\...\system11.1.1.2.36.55.36\DefaultDomain\servers\DefaultServer\tmp\_WL_user\test\753the\dynamicClasses (I have added directory dynamicClasses to manifest for deployment WAR profile). In this directory I create class files. I have checked it, files are really created there. When I try to load created class with the same classloader, for which I have printed classpath, ClassNotFoundException is thrown. It knows the path to the directory with classes and to jar file, but it doesn't load classes. With URLClassLoader I can load classes. But I need so that my classes would be seen by the classes loaded "usual" way. I am able to run it correctly just with system CLASSPATH. Please, do you know an explanation? Is the manifest file in WAR the wrong place for specifiing classpath? Thank you in advance Qjeta

  I have the following code which definitely returns a proper data result if I use the 2.0.0 version, but for some reason bootstrap's typeahead plugin is giving me an error. • Using Gdata Calendar API for PHP App to create a calender system with event ownership

  Hello, I'm working on a PHP app, and I'm trying to find the best way to set up a calendar system. First let me describe the intended function of the system: The application has multiple users who can login simultaneously. Each user should be able to add their own events and display them on their "profile." Also, on another page, the events should be able to be shown all together (from all users) and from each individual users exclusively. Since Google Calendar has a nice calendar-looking interface, I thought I would work with the GData APIs. Originally, I thought this would make things easier. But then it seems that if I want to represent event ownership, either each user would have to have a google account or somehow they all would each have to have a separate calendar. Thus, the application would have to create the calendar (if it does not exist) and be able to edit only their calendar. Two questions: Can I somehow use the GData APIs to accomplish my goal? (Mainly event ownership.) Should I just create my own calendar like application? Thanks!

  I'm currently doing a bit of experimenting using Autofac-1.4.5.676, autofac contrib and castle DynamicProxy2. The goal is to create a coarse-grained profiler that can intercept calls to specific methods of a particular interface. The problem: I have everything working perfectly apart from the selective part. I gather that I need to marry up my interceptor with an IProxyGenerationHook implementation, but I can't figure out how to do this. My code looks something like this: The interface that is to be intercepted & profiled (note that I only care about profiling the Update() method) public interface ISomeSystemToMonitor { void Update(); // this is the one I want to profile void SomeOtherMethodWeDontCareAboutProfiling(); } Now, when I register my systems with the container, I do the following: // Register interceptor gubbins builder.RegisterModule(new FlexibleInterceptionModule()); builder.Register<PerformanceInterceptor>(); // Register systems (just one in this example) builder.Register<AudioSystem>() .As<ISomeSystemToMonitor>) .InterceptedBy(typeof(PerformanceInterceptor)); All ISomeSystemToMonitor instances pulled out of the container are intercepted and profiled as desired, other than the fact that it will intercept all of its methods, not just the Update method. Now, how can I extend this to exclude all methods other than Update()? As I said, I don't understand how I'm meant to say "for the ProfileInterceptor, use this implementation of IProxyHookGenerator". • jQuery - Not sure which method to use, closest() and parent() don't work.

  Hello, again. :) God i feel like i'm spamming stackoverflow, this is my 3rd post for today. Sorry, heh. I even posted a question regarding this before, kind of, but i've changed the code a bit since so i thought it was better to post a new question. $('.pmlist ul li h4 .toggle').click(function() { $(this).closest('.meddel').toggle(250); }); That's what i've got now. The reason why the closest() method isn't working is because the div .meddel is just next to the h4 element. And closest() only crawls right up the DOM tree, ignoring other child elements. Right? parent() works almost the same and doesn't work either. And as i only want to toggle the closest .meddel div in the element, i need something that, yeah justs grabs the nearest one, and not all of them.   I have a system with the following setup: I use: Windows CE 6 R3 Microsoft's Bluetooth stack including all profiles Motorola H500 The Audio Gateway service is up and running (checked through services list in cmd) GSM Module is functional - I am able to set outgoing calls and to answer calls. Bluetooth is functional - the A2DP profile plays music to Motorola headphones (can't remember the model right now) I want to hold a conversation using a headset device. I have included all Bluetooth components in the catalog. I pair the device using the Control Panel applet. When I press the button on the Motorla device to answer a call I get a print by the Audio Gateway: BTAGSVC: ConnectionEvent. BTAGSVC: SCOListenThread_Int - Connection Event. BTAGSVC: ConnectionEvent. BTAGSVC: SCOListenThread_Int - Connection Event. BTAGSVC: ConnectionEvent. BTAGSVC: A Bluetooth peer device has connected to the Audio Gateway. BTAGSVC: Could not open registry key for BT Addr: 2. BTAGSVC: The peer device was not accepted since the user has never confirmed it as a device to be used. So my questions are as follows: What do I need to do to pair the device with the Audio Gateway? Once my device is paired, do I need to set anything else up? (except for the GSM module of course)

  I'm building a number of artefacts (zip files for different environments: test, dev) using the maven-assembly-plugin using a specialized Maven profile. These artefacts I want to copy/collect on on a FTP server keeping the version (01.07.10.16.Wed-1626) as a folder, so I need to copy from test/build/01.07.10.16.Wed-1626/ to ftp://my-ftp-server:21/projects/myserver-1.7/01.07.10.16.Wed-1626/ The layout for the Maven output is this: target/ build/ 01.07.10.16.Wed-1626/ my-server-01.07.10.16.Wed-1626-dev.zip my-server-01.07.10.16.Wed-1626-test.zip For copying the artefacts I'm using FTP Publisher Plugin but it seams I miss something since that even the build is OK and the artefacts are build without problem but the job is finishing without copying the artefacts, and in the console there is no log info about copying the artefacts My FTP publisher config (FTP repository hosts) is: Hostname: my-ftp-server Port: 21 Timeout: 10000 Root Repository Path: projects User Name: my-user Password: my-pass My Hudson job FTP publisher config (Publish artifacts to FTP) is: FTP site: my-ftp-server Files to upload Source: target/build/** Destination: myserver-1.7 1: There is any log to check if there are any FTP copy errors ? 2: There is any problem with the file pattern (source) or with the dest ?

• Using DPAPI / ProtectedData in a web farm environment with the User Store

  I was wondering if anyone had successfully used DPAPI with a user store in a web farm enviroment? Because our application is a recently converted from 1.1 to 2.0 asp.net app, we're using a custom wrapper which directly calls the CryptUnprotect methods. But this should be the same as the ProtectedData method available in the 2.0 framework. Because we are operating in a web farm environment, we can't guarantee that the machine that did the encryption is going to be the one decrypting it. (Also because machine failures shouldn't destroy our encrypted data). So what we have is a serviced component that runs in a service under a particular user account on each one of our web boxes. This user is a set up to have a roaming profile, as per the recomendation. The problem we have is that info encrypted on one machine can not be decrypted on another, this fails with the win32 error 'Key not valid for use in specified state'. I suspect that this is because I've made a mistake by having the encryption service running as the user on multiple machines, hence keeping the user logged in on more than one machine at the same time. If this is the problem, how are other using DPAPI with the User Store in a web farm environment?

• Asynchronous daemon processing / ORM interaction with Django

  I'm looking for a way to do asynchronous data processing with a daemon that uses Django ORM. However, the ORM isn't thread-safe; it's not thread-safe to try to retrieve / modify django objects from within threads. So I'm wondering what the correct way to achieve asynchrony is? Basically what I need to accomplish is taking a list of users in the db, querying a third party api and then making updates to user-profile rows for those users. As a daemon or background process. Doing this in series per user is easy, but it takes too long to be at all scalable. If the daemon is retrieving and updating the users through the ORM, how do I achieve processing 10-20 users at a time? I would use a standard threading / queue system for this but you can't thread interactions like models.User.objects.get(id=foo) ... Django itself is an asynchronous processing system which makes asynchronous ORM calls(?) for each request, so there should be a way to do it? I haven't found anything in the documentation so far.   I've build a command-line tool in Java, which I would now like to profile with YourKit. I launch the command-line tool with something like: $ java -classpath .:foo.bar.jar com.foobar.tools.TheTool arg1 arg2 arg3 It runs to completion in less than 2 seconds. How should I modify my command-line tool to allow connection from YourKit? I could add a command-line option that will have it pause for input, and I won't press return for it to continue until I've connected to it from YourKit. Is there a YourKit API that I could add to my tool that would cause it to block until I've connected with YourKit? Is there a YourKit API or a java command-line option that would create a profiling "snapshot" that I could load and analyze later (after the command-line tool has completed) with YourKit?

• Spelling correction for data normalization in Java

  I am looking for a Java library to do some initial spell checking / data normalization on user generated text content, imagine the interests entered in a Facebook profile. This text will be tokenized at some point (before or after spell correction, whatever works better) and some of it used as keys to search for (exact match). It would be nice to cut down misspellings and the like to produce more matches. It would be even better if the correction would perform well on tokens longer than just one word, e.g. "trinking coffee" would become "drinking coffee" and not "thinking coffee". I found the following Java libraries for doing spelling correction: JAZZY does not seem to be under active development. Also, the dictionary-distance based approach seems inadequate because of the use of non-standard language in social network profiles and multi-word tokens. APACHE LUCENE seems to have a statistical spell checker that should be much more suited. Question here would how to create a good dictionary? (We are not using Lucene otherwise, so there is no existing index.) Any suggestions are welcome!

• iPhone universal app. MoviePlayer.framwork problem.

  I have application based on 3.0 iPhone OS SDK One of tasks is playing video (I use MPMoviePlayerController for this task) Now I try to make universal app working on both 3.0 and 3.2 OS I did all steps described in apple documentation: Upgrade Current Target for iPad; make run-time checking for symbols using [[UIDevice currentDevice] respondsToSelector:@selector(userInterfaceIdiom)] function. This symbol is notification available in MediaPlayer.framework starting from iPhone OS 3.2 So, what am I doing wrong? What I should do to have universal application working correct on OS 3.2 (with new available functionality) and older OSes (with their functionality)?

  I'm using emails as username to login into a site being developed, now if a user updates their email from the profile page, how can i make sure that my email checking statement doesnt catch the user's email as already registered in the database. the page /* Now we will store the values submitted by form in variable */ $fullname=$_POST['fullname']; $dob=$_POST['dob']; $address=$_POST['address']; $myusername=$_POST['myusername']; $telephone=$_POST['telephone']; $queryuser=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM customer WHERE email='$myusername' "); $checkuser=mysql_num_rows($queryuser); if($checkuser != 0) { $Merr[]='&raquo; Sorry this email is already registered!'; } else {$insert_user=mysql_query("UPDATE CUSTOMER SET SYNTAX HERE"); Now these are the fields in question; (name, dob, address, email, telephone) VALUES ('$fullname', '$dob', '$address', '$myusername', '$telephone') As you can see if the user changes the login email then the syntax checks for the email being submitted against the database, however if the user leaves the email unchanged he will get the error because it is found in the database. I was thinking of something like; if($checkuser != 0) { if($myusername == $_POST['myusername']) (...dont show error.) but my php skills are limited. can anyone advise please, thanks

• Get data from database without refresh whole page

  Hello everybody. My project is about a school admin I have a page called : createClass.php, where user inserts grade, profile etc. When he press "submit" page called createdClass.php is loading. Inside this page I have all code which insert data into database and also an "if" structure which says : "Class already exists" if in database is another class with same specifications. Also in second page (createdClass.php) i have a small table which shows the place of each student. First time all cells are green (this means that place is free) and if i click one of them appear a popup window which let me to add info about student from that place. If a place is busy the cell will be red (take a look here : http://screencast.com/t/NzM2YzYxNjct). The big problem is that the cell will be red only after refresh the page (the place ask for data from database). If I press refresh appears "class already exists". To test the code i added in a comment all lines which verify and add respectively classroom . I think my problem can be solved with ajax. I'm waiting for an answer. Regards Stefan

  Hi, I have a list showing up when i click on button, the problem is that i want to hide the list whenever it loses focus i.e. user clicks anywhere on a page, but not on that list. How can i do this? Also, you can see how it should look at last.fm, where's list of profile settings (li.profileItem).
