  • Is there a "good enough" solution for the halting problem?

    - by EpsilonVector
    It is known that the halting problem cannot have a definite solution, one that a) returns true <== the program does indeed halt, and b) handles any input, but I was wondering if there are good enough solutions to the problem, ones that can maybe handle certain types of program flows perfectly, or is able to identify it when it cannot correctly solve the problem, and so on.... If so, how good are they, and what ideas/limitations do they rely on?

  • Rewrite SQL Fulltext Function to return Table only

    - by Alex
    I have a MS SQL Fulltext Function like this: (...) RETURNS TABLE AS RETURN SELECT * FROM fishes INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(fishes, *, @keywords, @limit) AS KEY_TBL ON fishes.id = KEY_TBL.[KEY] When I use this function in LINQ, it generates a special return type which includes all fields of my "fishes" table, plus Key and Rank. How could I rewrite above query, or change something in LINQ, to omit Key and Rank and just return my "fishes" results (and to have the fulltext search result objects be of type Fish, which is what I really care about, so I don't have to cast)?

    I'm attempting to log a user out of facebook with the Facebook JS SDK, however calling: FB.logout(function(response){ console.log(response); }); returns: response.status == "connected" And only after refreshing the page does the SDK realize that the session has ended. Anyone know what could be causing this behavior? This code previously worked in my application and has recently started behaving this way. Another example using FireBug:

  • Catch Multiple Custom Exceptions? - C++

    - by Alex
    Hi all, I'm a student in my first C++ programming class, and I'm working on a project where we have to create multiple custom exception classes, and then in one of our event handlers, use a try/catch block to handle them appropriately. My question is: How do I catch my multiple custom exceptions in my try/catch block? GetMessage() is a custom method in my exception classes that returns the exception explanation as a std::string. Below I've included all the relevant code from my project. Thanks for your help! try/catch block // This is in one of my event handlers, newEnd is a wxTextCtrl try { first.ValidateData(); newEndT = first.ComputeEndTime(); *newEnd << newEndT; } catch (// don't know what do to here) { wxMessageBox(_(e.GetMessage()), _("Something Went Wrong!"), wxOK | wxICON_INFORMATION, this);; } ValidateData() Method void Time::ValidateData() { int startHours, startMins, endHours, endMins; startHours = startTime / MINUTES_TO_HOURS; startMins = startTime % MINUTES_TO_HOURS; endHours = endTime / MINUTES_TO_HOURS; endMins = endTime % MINUTES_TO_HOURS; if (!(startHours <= HOURS_MAX && startHours >= HOURS_MIN)) throw new HourOutOfRangeException("Beginning Time Hour Out of Range!"); if (!(endHours <= HOURS_MAX && endHours >= HOURS_MIN)) throw new HourOutOfRangeException("Ending Time Hour Out of Range!"); if (!(startMins <= MINUTE_MAX && startMins >= MINUTE_MIN)) throw new MinuteOutOfRangeException("Starting Time Minute Out of Range!"); if (!(endMins <= MINUTE_MAX && endMins >= MINUTE_MIN)) throw new MinuteOutOfRangeException("Ending Time Minute Out of Range!"); if(!(timeDifference <= P_MAX && timeDifference >= P_MIN)) throw new PercentageOutOfRangeException("Percentage Change Out of Range!"); if (!(startTime < endTime)) throw new StartEndException("Start Time Cannot Be Less Than End Time!"); } Just one of my custom exception classes, the others have the same structure as this one class HourOutOfRangeException { public: // param constructor // initializes message to passed paramater // preconditions - param will be a string // postconditions - message will be initialized // params a string // no return type HourOutOfRangeException(string pMessage) : message(pMessage) {} // GetMessage is getter for var message // params none // preconditions - none // postconditions - none // returns string string GetMessage() { return message; } // destructor ~HourOutOfRangeException() {} private: string message; };

  • Using a constructor for return.

    - by Fecal Brunch
    Hi, Just a quick question. I've written some code that returns a custom class Command, and the code I've written seems to work fine. I was wondering if there are any reasons that I shouldn't be doing it this way. It's something like this: Command Behavior::getCommand () { char input = 'x'; return Command (input, -1, -1); } Anyway, I read that constructors aren't meant to have a return value, but this works in g++. Thanks for any advice, Rhys

  • mySQL - One large query vs Ajax indivdual queries

    - by Mark
    Hi guys, I guess no one will have a definative answer to this but considered predictions would be appriciated. I am in the process of developing a mySQL database for a web application and my question is: Is it more efficient to make a single query that returns a single row using AJAX or To request 100 - 700 rows when the user will likely only ever use the results of two or three? Really I am asking what is heavier for the server 2-3 requests with one result or 1 request with 100 - 700 results? Thanks, Mark

  • why including www in a jquery load causes it to fail?

    - by zenna
    Could someone enlighten me as to why including www in a ajax request causes it to fail. i.e. This works: $('#mydiv').load('http://mydomain.com/getitems'); But this doesn't (returns nothing) $('#mydiv').load('http://www.mydomain.com/getitems'); Note that www.mydomain.com/getitems is a valid domain, in the sense that if I point my web browser to it I am able to load the page.

  • How can you unit test a DelegateCommand

    - by Damian
    I am trying to unit test my ViewModel and my SaveItem(save, CanSave) delegate command. I want to ensure that CanSave is called and returns the correct value given certain conditions. Basically, how can I invoke the delegate command from my unit test, actually it's more of an integration test. Obviously I could just test the return value of the CanSave method but I am trying to use BDD to the letter, ie. no code without a test first.
