• Are there any modern platforms with non-IEEE C/C++ float formats?

  Hi all, I am writing a video game, Humm and Strumm, which requires a network component in its game engine. I can deal with differences in endianness easily, but I have hit a wall in attempting to deal with possible float memory formats. I know that modern computers have all a standard integer format, but I have heard that they may not all use the IEEE standard for floating-point integers. Is this true? While certainly I could just output it as a character string into each packet, I would still have to convert to a "well-known format" of each client, regardless of the platform. The standard printf() and atod() would be inadequate. Please note, because this game is a Free/Open Source Software program that will run on GNU/Linux, *BSD, and Microsoft Windows, I cannot use any proprietary solutions, nor any single-platform solutions.   Does anyone use Accurev for Source Control Management? We are switching (eventually) from StarTeam to Accurev. My initial impression is that the GUI tool is severely lacking, however the underlying engine, and the branches as streams concept is incredible. The biggest difficulty we are facing is assessing our own DIY tools that interfaced with starteam, and either replacing them with DIY new tools, or finding and purchasing appropriate replacements. Additionally, is anyone using the AccuWork component for Issue management? Starteam had a very nice change request system, and AccuWork does not come close to matching it. We are evaluating either using Accuwork, or buying a 3rd party package such as JIRA. Opinions?

  For debugging / performance tests I would like to dynamically add logging code to all event handlers of components of a given type. For example, for all Dataset components located ona TDatamodule, I would like to add some code for the BeforeOpen and the AfterOpen event to store the start and end time and send a line to a logger with the elapsed time in the AfterOpen event. I would prefer to do this dynamically (no component subclassing), so that I can add this to all existing datamodules and forms with minimal effort only when needed. Iterating all components and filtering by their type is easy, but for the components which already have event handlers assigned, I need a way to store the existing event handlers, and assign a new modified event handler which first does the logging and then will invoke the original code which was already present. Is there a design pattern which can be applied, or even some example code which shows how to implement this in Delphi?

• Can we view objects in the JVM memory?

  Hey, At work we found that on some instances (particulary the slow ones) we have a different behaviour, acquired at the reboot. We guess a cache is not initialized correctly, or maybe a concurrency problem... Anyway it's not reproductible in any other env than production. We actually don't have loggers to activate... it's an old component... Thus i'd like to know if there are tools that can help us to see the different objets present in the JVM memory in order to check the content of the cache... Thank you!

• Why is the EntityManager in my GAE + Spring (+graniteds) project reset to null?

  Hi all, I'm having a problem with autowiring my EntityManager. Actually at server startup I can see that the injection works ok, though when trying to use my EntityManager it appears to be null again. @Component public class DataDaoImpl { protected EntityManager entityManager; @Autowired public void setEntityManager(EntityManager entityManager) { System.out.println("Injecting "+entityManager); //works! this.entityManager = entityManager; } public void createData(String key, String value) { System.out.println("In createData entityManager is "+entityManager); //entityManager null!? ...   I need a way to collapse duplicate (defined in terms of a string field with an id) results in solr. I know that such a feature is comming in the next version (1.5), but I can't wait for that. What would be the best way to remove duplicates using the current stable version 1.4? Given that finding duplicates in my case is really easy (comparison of a string field), should it be a Filter, should I overwrite the existing SearchComponent or write a new Component, or use some external libraries like carrot2? The overall result count should reflect the shortened result.

We have a collection of Microsoft Word documents on an ASP.NET web server with merge fields whose values are filled in as a result of user form submissions. After the field merge, the server must convert the document to PDF and stream it down to the browser. Our first inclination was to use the Visual Studio Tools for Office API; however, we ran into this warning from Microsoft: Microsoft does not currently recommend, and does not support, Automation of Microsoft Office applications from any unattended, non-interactive client application or component (including ASP, ASP.NET, DCOM, and NT Services), because Office may exhibit unstable behavior and/or deadlock when Office is run in this environment. It looks like the field manipulation can be done using the Open XML SDK, but what's the best way to convert Word 2007 documents to PDF without opening Word? The optimal solution would be low-cost, scalable, have a low memory footprint, be easy to deploy, and have a .NET API.

  Hi I have a Spring web application, I have built it up to the controller stage and I could inject my Daos, into my Services fine. Now when I want to inject my Service into my controller i get an error for dependency with the Dao and further down the sessionFactory. • Headless HTML rendering to image on CentOS 5.4

  Hello, I have a project requirement to render HTML and capture the rendered image as a file on a headless CentOS 5.4 server. My specific requirements are: 1) Input will be a URL to the page to render, output will be an image file containing the rendered image of the page 2) CSS must be supported by the renderer up to CSS level-1 3) Static images in the page must be displayed properly in the rendered image, including any transparent color in .GIF files 4) Must be able to run on a headless CentOS 5.4 server. 5) Solution must not depend on any product or component that is not free for commercial use I do not need to do anything with the page other than get the screen capture and save it to an image. The hard part seems to be doing this in a headless environment. Some of the solutions that I've seen discussed need a display in order to work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Jim

• Why is generated XAML spitting out namespaces that are not asked for?

  I have a very simple XAML form, that has one namespace definition. For some reason, when Visual Studio processes that XAML file in to it's component .g.cs, it's sticking a bunch of namespace definitions at the top that I have not asked for in the XAML, or the code behind, and they are namespaces that no longer exist in my project. Thus the project is failing to compile. Why is Visual Studio sticking arbitrary namespace 'using' statements in my generated XAML .g.cs files? It's caused my entire project to break. Not one time did this .xaml file ever reference the namespaces in question, so it's doubly annoying.

• ADT will not allow creation of Android Activity

  I installed the ADT bundle from http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html yesterday, and I was following a basic Hello World tutorial. I created a new Android Application Project with a Blank Activity named MainActivity. The resulting project has an empty src folder and empty res\layout folder. There is a R.java file in the gen folder but it has no reference to MainActivity. This is what the SDK manager says I have installed Android SDK Tools v 22.6 Android SDK Platform-tools v 19.0.1 Android SDK Build-tools v 19 SDK Platform v 3 ARM EABI v7a System Image v 2 Android Support Library v 19.0.1 Google USB Driver v 9 I also tried manually creating an activity by right clicking the src folder and going to Android Activity, but when I hit Finish on the creation wizard, nothing happens. Does anyone have any clues as to what's going on? Did I miss a key component to install or something?

But the recreated file is created blank. the recreated file has the same number of pages though... But I have a requirement of not displaying the space before the labels and to change the color. I used the css to reduce the space: .rich-menu-item-icon img { width: 0px; } .rich-menu-group-icon img { width: 0px; } but, i need to change the color in that place.

  I downloaded lastest version of flex open source sdk. I wanted to compile some samples specifically explorer example. At first build.sh gave me weird error and with little search I nailed it by converting all bash files and mxml files with dos2unix. It is file type error. However now I get this error ./build.sh Error: Could not resolve <mx:Script> to a component implementation. <mx:Script> When I execute build.sh, some of the samples give this weird error. I searched this error on the net, their solution is to add -Duser.language=en -Duser.region=US as jre parameters. However, this solution is for Turkish Windows XP. My system is Pardus, yet another linux distribution.

I have a project with components and each project and components have this metric value. When I want to show this metric as a color metric in a "treemap of components" of widget, all the treemap is grey (as if values are not defined). But if I put mouse on the name of component in treemap, I saw the color metric value as a percentage value like this : myComponent - ncloc: 800 - myMetric: 84,0% Moreover, scale metric color does not appear in treemap title (after Size ncloc Color <my metric>).

• What's a better way to display a handle for resizing a view on iPhone / iPad?

  I want to display a handle at the corners of a UIView that can be used to resize the view. How can I display the handles floating on the top of everything else and still have a connection to and be in sync with a view? The solution I implemented before looks like this: I put the view into another view that shows the handles on top of the corners. The problem with this approach is that the handles add extra space to the original view's size. Since Apple recommends at least 40 x 40 px for the size of a button, it is not very little space and also goes beyond the visible bounds of the original view. Another problem is that the original view has to be encapsulated in this 'helper view' object and thus becomes a part of something although it really is the main component.
