  • Windows 2003 Active Directory Integrated DNS zone not registering non-domain computers

    I'm not a networking guy by all means, I'm just a developer who dabbles enough to get into trouble and I'm there. So bear with me... :) At my office I have a Windows 2003 Domain Controller which also services DNS. On the domain I have a handful of computers and other misc. equipment/toys. For the DNS I only created a Forward Lookup Zone for my domain (mydomain.com). I run a lot of VM's so generally I have everything on the domain, however some of those VM's are not and only in a 'Workgroup'. I also have another laptop which belongs to another domain (otherdomain.com) which is here 100% but I use it for other purposes and has to belong to the otherdomain.com. With all that said, I have two questions: I have found any computer not on mydomain.com does not register it's IP address even though 'Register this connections address in DNS' is set to in the 'Advanced TCP/IP Settings' for the nic. Where have I messed this up? On the laptop which is registered on otherdomain.com, when I do a nslookup for a computer on mydomain.com (e.g. nslookup devbox1) it appends otherdomain.com as the suffix (e.g. queries devbox1.otherdomain.com). Same thing occurs if I use the fully qualified name. In the 'Advanced TCP/IP Settings' for that nic, I can 'Append these DNS suffixes' of mydomain.com but I fear that will hose my DNS lookups when I VPN to otherdomain.com. So what is the correct approach to resolve this issue? Do I add both mydomain.com and otherdomain.com in that order?

  • How to create a text file from column and FTP that text file to server

    I have workbook with 2 sheets (Sheet1 and sheet2). On sheet1 user will enter the data which will be populated in the column B and then column C will hold the values from Col A and B on sheet2. I need to create a text file from the values in coloumn C on a click of a button and then upload(FTP) that file to a server. So the sheet1 will have 2 buttons. Button1 will save the excel file and create the text file in windows temp directory. e.g text.xls text.prop (text file whoch has all the values in column C on sheet2) Button2 will upload (FTP) the text file (.prop) to a server. Can anyone please send me the steps and VB code to achieve the above tasks? Thanks in Advance Addi

  • Linux software to maintain old/backup versions of directory tree

    I am replacing an old Linux file server serving NFS and CIFS. For the new server (still serving CIFS and NFS), I would like to have software that automatically and efficiently maintains old revisions of files in parallel trees, so that they can be accessed by users without special tools. I am looking for software that is akin to Time Machine or Flyback, but works well on a server. The dataset is some 10000 files weighing maybe 60 GB. Changes are relatively few, usually less than 100 files changes daily. Using LVM snapshots will not cut it, as the old revisions must reside on a separate set of disks from the live data. Edit: To clarify: keeping old revisions is non-vital addition to the solution, so any suggestion will have to stay in the range of some hundred euros.

  • cd doesn't change directory in Windows 7

    I am working with cmd.exe on Windows 7 (as opposed to Powershell). I have 2 partitions on my drive, C contains the OS and installed programs, and D contains my data. I was trying to cd from C to D, but cmd wouldn't let me: C:\>cd D:\ C:\> However, when I type dir D:\, it will list the contents of D correctly. Why does it do this and how can I fix it? Powershell works fine so I can use that, but I would like to know what makes cmd misbehave.

  • I get a "could not create lock file" error when trying to run Postgres

    I recently had to replace my postgresql.conf file, and I thought I got the settings right, but when I try to run Postgresql, I get this error: ESTFATAL: could not create lock file "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432.lock": No such file or directory My workaround is to go as root and create a folder called postgresql in /var/run and then change the owner of the folder to postgres. The biggest problem is that I need to do this every single time my computer starts, the folder somehow deletes itself. I tried commenting out the external pid file bit in the conf file, but that didn't change anything.

  • Nginx ignores HTTP Authentication for WordPress login directory

    I am running WordPress in a subfolder of my domain for testing and development purposes on a VPS LEMP-stack. In order to password-protect the wp-login.php with an etxra layer, I used HTTP authentication for the wp-admin folder. The problem is that the http authentication is ignored. When the wp-login.php or wp-admin-folder is called, it goes directly to the normal WordPress-login.   • Accessing A Shared Directory That Has An Account White List

    I'm on a LAN here at work and I have my desktop sharing some of my project folders. I can access the computer via \\ComputerIP\, but I can't actually open any of the folders. Upon attempting, I get the error: Windowns cannot access \ComputerIP\ProjectFolder You do not have permission to access \ComputerIP\ProjectFolder. Contact your network administrator to request access. For more information about permissions, see Windows Help and Support Now, this is understood considering I've made it so that you had to utilize the "Project" credentials to connect. I have a user account on my main computer hosting these shared folders that gives full access to the folders if you are this "Project" user. I can Remote Desktop the computer just fine from my laptop using either set of credentials. When I try to open these folders it doesn't give me the option to attempt to apply any credentials like it does when I remote desktop. How am I supposed to gain access to these folders?

    Hi, I have a windows server 2003 where I have to create a MAPI profile to read incoming emails of exchange 2007, using a custom utility. So I want the mail icon to appear in the control panel to configure e-mail accounts. I googled a lot and seems that there was a way to do it with an utility called newprof.exe but it is no longer available: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306962 I don't have an outlook license so I need a free way to create MAPI profiles in this server, either installing a free client or some ms tool. How do I make a Bash script that takes each folder under /home/user (not hidden files or folders), gets the user and group ownership of that folder, and then does a chown -R {user}.{group} /home/user?     Is it possible to create another audio device and redirect only wanted input streams to it? Here's my concrete problem: I am broadcasting a game via XFire and it uses the Windows audio device to capture any audio I receive. As I am broadcasting, other users who watch the video stream are communicating with me over Skype, and they hear themselves back within the video stream and it is entirely logical since I am broadcasting the audio I hear. What I want to do is create another audio device within Windows and redirect (pipe) ONLY the audio input from that game and not the input reveived from Skype. I would then tell XFire to use that newly created "virtual" audio device to broadcast and therefore my partners won't hear themselves back. Is there any software that can do that or can it be achieved natively with Windows? (I am under Windows 7).

  • Why can't I create a public folder?

    I have a need to create a new Exchange public folder, as a sub folder to a folder that I'm already the owner of. When ever I try (from Outlook 2007) to create a new public folder, I'm told I don't have persmission. Outlook doesn't let me view the permissions of this folder, however it lets me view permissions of other folders that I'm owner of. Both ESM and PFDAVAdmin both report that my regular (i.e. non domain admin account) is the owner of the folder. Our set up is as follows: Exchange 2003 running on Server 2003, Windows 2008 R2 domain. Windows XP Desktop, Outlook 2007. Everything fully patched. What am I doing wrong?

If I create a Keypair from Elasticfox, I get only one file to download and a fingerprint. So which of this need to get where?

I plan on using subdirectories to split up the files (it's ext3)... so for example, the filename 055c102b-62fb-4671-a3c7-68b9515ec53e.swf would live in /data/files/0/5/5/055c102b-62fb-4671-a3c7-68b9515ec53e.swf (taking the first 3 characters as directory names) My question is - how to create the /data/files/?/?/?/ directories ahead of time?     I am using Mountain Lion Developer Preview 2. I cannot find the "Create Network" menuitem in the WiFi icon menu in the menubar. It was there before when I was using Lion. It started missing since I upgraded to Mountain Lion Developer Preview 1. By the way, is there any other method to create an ad-hoc WiFi network on OS X? I tried to use Internet Sharing via WiFi, but other devices using the shared connection could not find the Mac in their local networks. I am using an early 2011 MacBook Pro 15'. Thanks.
