• Installing mysql-server with python ssh connection

  I'm writing a script in Python, which is connecting to server via ssh, then installing some packages. But there is problem with dialogue box, where i can type in a root password- i don't know how to send data there. Once I tried to do this, my apt(using Debian Lenny) gone crazy. • Can I install 64-bit OS on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop?

  My Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop features the Intel Pentium Dual Core T4200 processor. When I bought it, it came preinstalled with Windows Vista Home Basic, 32-bit. I'm considering upgrading it to Windows 7 Home Premium, but I don't know whether I should order the 64-bit or 32-bit version. The information I found on the web has been confusing. Does anyone know if my laptop supports 64-bit OS?

• Is there any benefit to running OSX (Snow Leopard) in 64 bit mode?

  I know I can force it to boot into 64-bit kernel by holding down the 6 and 4 keys during the boot process. I also know that some extensions still don't run in 64-bit mode. So the question is what might I gain by running in 64-bit mode? If it matters, I have the brand new 2010 15" MBP with the faster processer and 8GB of RAM.

• PuTTY - Server Unexpectedly Closed Network Connection

  I have two servers that I have been able to connect fine as s1.website.com and s2.website.com I connected to s1.website.com earlier today without any issues, however, when I connected to s2.website.com it gave me the "Server Unexpectedly Closed Network Connection" I have researched this elsewhere and someone concluded it to a "brute force attempt" However, I know this is not the case. If anyone else has had this issue please let me know. Thanks

• Keyboard shortcut for creating a new folder or file? (Windows)

  Does anybody know if there's a keyboard shortcut equivilant to the right click - New context menu in explorer? Given that I suspect that there isn't, does anybody know of an explorer extension that offers something similar? For example: I'd like to have a distro go to Help, Support, and IT. However, I don't want the sender to know it goes to Help if they expand the distro in the To: field.   Firefox can be startet via Commandline How can I run an application with command line arguments in Mac OS Is there an argument to make it start in 32 bit ? I know i could select it via finder, but thats no option for my problem I have solved a similar problem for chrome by creating an Automator "Launcher" which start Chrome with deactivated flash, but for that I need to know whether there is a command line argument to set 32bit. Maybe by changing systems settings by "default" ?

• Strange network traffic on my dedicated server. How to find out what is causing it

  I noticed a trange outgoing traffic in my dedicated server. I'd like to know how could I find out what is the reason to this. One day traffic One week traffic As you can see, there are bursts of spikes to over 20 megs of outgoing traffic. There is always a lower of outgoing data, before the burst.   I know with readline you can use emacs or vi commands to edit the input of several interactive text programs. I wonder if there exists such a similar facility to control the whole desktop in Gnome or in any other desktop environment. Maybe it could be a program that intercepts keystrokes and process them in the way vi does, translating sequences of characters to desktop commands and delivering to the active window only the text that is writen in insert mode. Do you know some tool like that?

  I want to measure the overhead in creating a TCP connection. I know of many tools like hping and netperf, but they seem oriented at measuring latency. I want to know how long the 3-way handshake takes, and allocating any buffers, etc., and then closing it. So I want to open a real, legitimate TCP connection, and then close it. Are there any tools that will do that and help me measure performance?
