  • How to open a document using an application launched via NSTask?

    - by zneak
Hello world, I've grown tired of the built-in open Mac OS X command, mostly because it runs programs with your actual user ID instead of the effective user ID; this results in the fact sudo open Foo opens Foo with its associated application with your account instead of the root account, and it annoys me. So I decided to make some kind of replacement. So far I've been successful: I can open any program under the open -a or open -b fashion, and support optionally waiting. I'm using NSTask for that purpose. However, I'd like to be able to open documents too. As far as I can see, you need to use NSWorkspace for that, but using NSWorkspace to launch programs results in them being launched with your account's credentials instead of your command line program's credentials. Which is precisely what the default open tool does, and precisely what I don't want. So, how can I have a program request that another program opens a document without using NSWorkspace? From the NSTask object, I can have the process ID, but that's about it.

  • NSDocument Subclass not closed by NSWindowController?

    - by Nathan Douglas
Okay, I'm fairly new to Cocoa and Objective-C, and to OOP in general. As background, I'm working on an extensible editor that stores the user's documents in a package. This of course required some "fun" to get around some issues with NSFileWrapper (i.e. a somewhat sneaky writing and loading process to avoid making NSFileWrappers for every single document within the bundle). The solution I arrived at was to essentially treat my NSDocument subclass as just a shell -- use it to make the folder for the bundle, and then pass off writing the actual content of the document to other methods. Unfortunately, at some point I seem to have completely screwed the pooch. I don't know how this happened, but closing the document window no longer releases the document. The document object doesn't seem to receive a "close" message -- or any related messages -- even though the window closes successfully. The end result is that if I start my app, create a new document, save it, then close it, and try to reopen it, the document window never appears. With some creative subclassing and NSLogging, I managed to figure out that the document object was still in memory, and still attached to the NSDocumentController instance, and so trying to open the document never got past the NSDocumentController's "hmm, currently have that one open" check. I did have an NSWindowController and NSDocumentController instance, but I've purged them from my project completely. I've overridden nearly every method for NSDocument trying to find out where the issue is. So far as I know, my Interface Builder bindings are all correct -- "Close" in the main menu is attached to "performClose:" of the First Responder, etc, and I've tried with fresh unsullied MainMenu and Document xibs as well. I thought that it might be something strange with my bundle writing code, so I basically deleted it all and started from scratch, but that didn't seem to work. I took out my init method overrides, and that didn't help either. I don't have the source of any simple document apps here, so I didn't try the next logical step (to substitute known-working code for mine in the readfromurl and writetourl methods). I've had this problem for about sixteen hours of uninterrupted troubleshooting now, and needless to say, I'm at the end of my rope. If I can't figure it out, I guess I'm going to try the project from scratch with a lot more code and intensity based around the bundle-document mess. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • JSP Document/JSPX: what determines how space/linebreaks are removed in the output?

    - by NoozNooz42
I've got a "JSP Document" ("JSP in XML") nicely formatted and when the webpage is generated and sent to the user, some linebreaks are removed. Now the really weird part: apparently the "main" .jsp always gets all its linebreak removed but for any subsequent .jsp included from the main .jsp, linebreaks seems to be randomly removed (some are there, others aren't). For example, if I'm looking at the webpage served from Firefox and ask to "view source", I get to see what is generated. So, what determines when/how linebreaks are kept/removed? This is just an example I made up... Can you force a .jsp to serve this: <body><div id="page"><div id="header"><div class="title">... or this: <body> <div id="page"> <div id="header"> <div class="title">... ? I take it that linebreaks are removed to save on bandwidth, but what if I want to keep them? And what if I want to keep the same XML indentation as in my .jsp file? Is this doable?

EDIT Following skaffman's advice, I took a look at the generated .java files and the "main" one doesn't have lots of out.write but not a single one writing tabs nor newlines. Contrary to that file, all the ones that I'm including from that main .jsp have lots of lines like: out.write("\t...\n"); So I guess my question stays exactly the same: what determines how tabs/space/linebreaks are included/removed in the output?

  • Mass Metadata Updates with Folders

    - by Kyle Hatlestad
With the release of WebCenter Content PS5, a new folder architecture called 'Framework Folders' was introduced.  This is meant to replace the folder architecture of 'Folders_g'.  While the concepts of a folder structure and access to those folders through Desktop Integration Suite remain the same, the underlying architecture of the component has been completely rewritten.  One of the main goals of the new folders is to scale better at large volumes and remove the limitations of 1000 content items or sub-folders within a folder.  Along with the new architecture, it has a new look and a few additional features have been added.  One of those features are Query Folders.  These are folders that are populated simply by a query rather then literally putting items within the folders.  This is something that the Library has provided, but it always took an administrator to define them through the Web Layout Editor.  Now users can quickly define query folders anywhere within the standard folder hierarchy. • iPhone SDK: How do you download video files to the Document Directory and then play them?

    - by Jessica
I've been fooling around with code for ages on this one, I would be very grateful if someone could provide a code sample that downloaded this file from a server http://www.archive.org/download/june_high/june_high_512kb.mp4, (By the way it's not actually this file, it's just a perfect example for anyone trying to help me) and then play it from the documents directory. I know it seems lazy of me to ask this but I have tried so many different variations of NSURLConnection that it's driving me crazy. Also, if I did manage to get the video file downloaded would I be correct in assuming this code would then successfully play it: NSArray *paths = NSSearchPathForDirectoriesInDomains(NSDocumentDirectory, NSUserDomainMask, YES); NSString *documentsDirectory = [paths objectAtIndex:0]; NSString *path = [documentsDirectory stringByAppendingPathComponent:@"june_high_512kb.mp4"]; NSURL *movieURL = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:path]; self.theMovie = [[MPMoviePlayerController alloc] initWithContentURL:movieURL]; [_theMovie play]; If the above code would work in playing a video file from the document directory, then I guess the only thing I would need to know is, how to download a video file from a server. Which is what seems to be my major problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Stupid problem with Javascript calculations and postbacks

    - by rockinthesixstring
    I'm working on an ASP.NET web app where I'm using a Wizard to take the client through a large series of steps. One of the steps includes calculating a bunch of numbers on the fly... the numbers calculate properly but when I click "next" and then go back again... some of the numbers are not retained. Here is the calculation function function CalculateFields() { txtSellingPrice = document.getElementById('<%=txtSellingPrice.ClientID %>'); txtBalanceSheet = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalanceSheet.ClientID %>'); txtDownPayment = document.getElementById('<%=txtDownPayment.ClientID %>'); txtSusEarn = document.getElementById('<%=txtSusEarn.ClientID %>'); txtSusRev = document.getElementById('<%=txtSusRev.ClientID %>'); txtBalanceMult = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalanceMult.ClientID %>'); txtGoodwillMult = document.getElementById('<%=txtGoodwillMult.ClientID %>'); txtSellingPriceMult = document.getElementById('<%=txtSellingPriceMult.ClientID %>'); txtGoodWill = document.getElementById('<%=txtGoodWill.ClientID %>'); txtBalance = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalance.ClientID %>'); chkTakeBack = document.getElementById('<%=chkTakeBack.ClientID %>'); txtVendorTakeBackPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtVendorTakeBackPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtSusEarnPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtSusEarnPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtBalanceMultPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtBalanceMultPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtGoodwillMultPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtGoodwillMultPercentage.ClientID %>'); txtSellingPriceMultPercentage = document.getElementById('<%=txtSellingPriceMultPercentage.ClientID %>'); var regexp = /[$,]/g; //Empty value checks SellingPrice = (SellingPrice == "" ? "$0" : SellingPrice); BalanceSheet = (BalanceSheet == "" ? "$0" : BalanceSheet); DownPayment = (DownPayment == "" ? "$0" : DownPayment); susearn = (susearn == "" ? If Not Page.IsPostBack Then txtSellingPrice.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtBalanceSheet.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtDownPayment.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtSusRev.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") txtSusEarn.Attributes.Add("onkeyup", "CalculateFields()") End If any thoughts/help/direction would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to pass a filename by drag-and-drop to a shortcut in Windows

    - by Kendall Frey
I have a program program.exe and a document document.txt, and to open the document, I can drag document.txt onto program.exe. So far so good. Now I want to call it with a command-line parameter -param so that the full command line is program.exe -param document.txt Unfortunately, I can't do this with drag and drop, so I need to fire up cmd and type in the command manually. This takes too long, and I need an easier way. How can I create a shortcut that I can drop the file onto, and have it call the program with the command-line parameter? I tried setting the shortcut to program.exe -param "%1", but that didn't work, because it appeared to pass only the file name, and not the path, and since the current directory was the one with the program and not the one with the document, it couldn't find the document.

  • How should a one-man development shop document their code?

    - by CKoenig
Hi, please let me first describe my situation. I work in an IT department for a small-to-medium sized industrial-company and basically I'm the only real developer (sometimes a second guy joins in for his own projects). I programm mostly in C#/.net. Of course I only programm for internal need (Intranet, reporting, data-driven apps, some mobile apps, ...). My question is how should I document my work? It's a highly dynamic environment (the features and bug fixes I implement are tested by me during production, and go live, often within a day. If I technical documentation like MSDN or even overview diagramms those would take me more time to sync than the whole programming process. Also I feel it's a waste of time because I would be the only one who ever read it. I do understand that if I get sick, leave, or forget this documentation would be valuable. PS:well of course you are right - the quesion is how much and how/where. I try using the XML-docu comments for the public exposed parts but as I'm a believer in self-documenting code the comments mostly restates in plain text what you can read from the method-head itself :(Maybe using the remarks section is the key but if you have 30 lines of code with a 15 line xml-comment in front it just looks dirty (sorry for posting it here but our firewall rejects JSON :( )

  • Big Data – Buzz Words: What is HDFS – Day 8 of 21

    - by Pinal Dave
In yesterday’s blog post we learned what is MapReduce. In this article we will take a quick look at one of the four most important buzz words which goes around Big Data – HDFS. What is HDFS ? HDFS stands for Hadoop Distributed File System and it is a primary storage system used by Hadoop. It provides high performance access to data across Hadoop clusters. It is usually deployed on low-cost commodity hardware. In commodity hardware deployment server failures are very common. Due to the same reason HDFS is built to have high fault tolerance. The data transfer rate between compute nodes in HDFS is very high, which leads to reduced risk of failure. HDFS creates smaller pieces of the big data and distributes it on different nodes. It also copies each smaller piece to multiple times on different nodes. Hence when any node with the data crashes the system is automatically able to use the data from a different node and continue the process. This is the key feature of the HDFS system. Architecture of HDFS The architecture of the HDFS is master/slave architecture. An HDFS cluster always consists of single NameNode. This single NameNode is a master server and it manages the file system as well regulates access to various files. In additional to NameNode there are multiple DataNodes. There is always one DataNode for each data server. In HDFS a big file is split into one or more blocks and those blocks are stored in a set of DataNodes. The primary task of the NameNode is to open, close or rename files and directory and regulate access to the file system, whereas the primary task of the DataNode is read and write to the file systems. DataNode is also responsible for the creation, deletion or replication of the data based on the instruction from NameNode. In reality, NameNode and DataNode are software designed to run on commodity machine build in Java language. Visual Representation of HDFS Architecture Let us understand how HDFS works with the help of the diagram. Client APP or HDFS Client connects to NameSpace as well as DataNode. Client App access to the DataNode is regulated by NameSpace Node. NameSpace Node allows Client App to connect to the DataNode based by allowing the connection to the DataNode directly. A big data file is divided into multiple data blocks (let us assume that those data chunks are A,B,C and D. Client App will later on write data blocks directly to the DataNode. Client App does not have to directly write to all the node. It just has to write to any one of the node and NameNode will decide on which other DataNode it will have to replicate the data. In our example Client App directly writes to DataNode 1 and detained 3. However, data chunks are automatically replicated to other nodes. All the information like in which DataNode which data block is placed is written back to NameNode. High Availability During Disaster Now as multiple DataNode have same data blocks in the case of any DataNode which faces the disaster, the entire process will continue as other DataNode will assume the role to serve the specific data block which was on the failed node. This system provides very high tolerance to disaster and provides high availability. If you notice there is only single NameNode in our architecture. If that node fails our entire Hadoop Application will stop performing as it is a single node where we store all the metadata. As this node is very critical, it is usually replicated on another clustered as well as on another data rack. Though, that replicated node is not operational in architecture, it has all the necessary data to perform the task of the NameNode in the case of the NameNode fails. The entire Hadoop architecture is built to function smoothly even there are node failures or hardware malfunction. It is built on the simple concept that data is so big it is impossible to have come up with a single piece of the hardware which can manage it properly. We need lots of commodity (cheap) hardware to manage our big data and hardware failure is part of the commodity servers. To reduce the impact of hardware failure Hadoop architecture is built to overcome the limitation of the non-functioning hardware. Tomorrow In tomorrow’s blog post we will discuss the importance of the relational database in Big Data. • One Week To Go: OTN Architect Day: Cloud Computing

    - by Bob Rhubart
One week remains until OTN Architect Day: Cloud Computing kicks of at the spectacular Oracle HQ campus in Redwood Shores, CA. The event is free, and there is still time to register. When: Tuesday July 9, 2013 8:30am - 12:30pm Where: Oracle Conference Center350 Oracle Pkwy Redwood City, CA 94065 Register now. It's free! Here's the latest update to the event agenda: 8:30am - 9:00am Registration and Continental Breakfast 9:00am - 9:45am Keynote 21st Century IT | Dr. James Baty VP, Global Enterprise Architecture Program, Oracle Imagine a time long, long ago. A time when servers were certified and dedicated to specific applications, when anything posted on an enterprise web site was from restricted, approved channels, and when we tried to limit the growth of 'dirty' data and storage. Today, applications are services running in the muti-tenant hybrid cloud. Companies beg their customers to tweet them, friend them, and publicly rate their products. And constantly analyzing a deluge of Internet, social and sensor data is the key to creating the next super-successful product, or capturing an evil terrorist. • JQuery Help: toggle() is not working properly

    - by John Smith
    Hi All, I'm trying to use JQuery toggle functionality, but not able to use properly. Instead of smooth slide up and down, it goes very fast and not in an animated manner. I want to achieve sliding effect in my code, like this has (Please see Website Design, Redesign Services slider): Here is my code: HTML: <div> <div class="jquery_inner_mid"> <div class="main_heading"> <a href="#"> <img src="features.jpg" alt="" title="" border="0" /></a> </div> <div class="plus_sign"> <img id="imgFeaturesEx" src="images/plus.jpg" alt="" title="" border="0" /> <img id="imgFeaturesCol" src="images/minus.jpg" alt="" title="" border="0" /></div> <div class="toggle_container"> <div id="divMain" > </div> </div> </div> <div class="jquery_inner_mid"> <div class="main_heading"> <img src="About.jpg" alt="" title="" /></div> <div class="plus_sign"> <img id="imgTechnoEx" src="images/plus.jpg" alt="" title="" border="0" /> <img id="imgTechnoCol" src="images/minus.jpg" alt="" title="" border="0" /></div> <div class="toggle_container"> <div id="divTechnossus" > </div> </div> </div> </div> JQuery: $(function() { document.getElementById('imgFeaturesCol').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('imgTechnoCol').style.display = 'none'; $('#imgFeaturesEx').click(function() { $.getJSON("/Visitor/GetFeatureInfo", null, function(strInfo) { document.getElementById('divMain').innerHTML = strInfo; }); $("#divMain").toggle("slow"); document.getElementById('imgFeaturesEx').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('imgFeaturesCol').style.display = 'block'; }); $('#imgFeaturesCol').click(function() { document.getElementById('divMain').innerHTML = ""; $("#divMain").toggle("slow"); document.getElementById('imgFeaturesCol').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('imgFeaturesEx').style.display = 'block'; }); $('#imgTechnoEx').click(function() { $.getJSON("/Visitor/GetTechnossusInfo", null, function(strInfo) { document.getElementById('divTechnossus').innerHTML = strInfo; }); $("#divTechnossus").slideToggle("slow"); document.getElementById('imgTechnoEx').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('imgTechnoCol').style.display = 'block'; }); $('#imgTechnoCol').click(function() { document.getElementById('divTechnossus').innerHTML = ""; $("#divTechnossus").slideToggle("slow"); document.getElementById('imgTechnoCol').style.display = 'none'; document.getElementById('imgTechnoEx').style.display = 'block'; }); });

  • DELETE from two tables with one OUTPUT clause?

    - by lance
This deletes the document from the Document table and outputs information about the deleted document into the FinishedDocument table. DELETE FROM Document OUTPUT Deleted.DocumentId , Deleted.DocumentDescription INTO FinishedDocument WHERE DocumentId = @DocumentId I need to delete the document not just from the Document table, but also from the DocumentBackup table. Meanwhile, I need to maintain insertion into FinishedDocument. Is all of this possible with only one statement? If not, is a second DELETE (against DocumentBackup), with all of it wrapped in a transaction, the way to go?

  • How to document an accessor/mutator method in phpDoc/javaDoc?

    - by nickf
Given a function which behaves as either a mutator or accessor depending on the arguments passed to it, like this: // in PHP, you can pass any number of arguments to a function... function cache($cacheName) { $arguments = func_get_args(); if (count($arguments) >= 2) { // two arguments passed. MUTATOR. $value = $arguments[1]; // use the second as the value $this->cache[$cacheName] = $value; // *change* the stored value } else { // 1 argument passed, ACCESSOR return $this->cache[$cacheName]; // *get* the stored value } } cache('foo', 'bar'); // nothing returned cache('foo') // 'bar' returned How do you document this in PHPDoc or a similar automated documentation creator? I had originally just written it like this: /** * Blah blah blah, you can use this as both a mutator and an accessor: * As an accessor: * @param $cacheName name of the variable to GET * @return string the value... * * As a mutator: * @param $cacheName name of the variable to SET * @param $value the value to set * @return void */ However, when this is run through phpDoc, it complains because there are 2 return tags, and the first @param $cacheName description is overwritten by the second. Is there a way around this?

  • AD-DirectoryServices: .NET2.0 - Speaking architecture, approach and best practices... Suggestions?

    - by Will Marcouiller
I've been mandated to write an application to migrate the Active Directory access models to another environment. Here's the context: I'm stuck with VB.NET 2005 and .NET Framework 2.0; The application must use the Windows authenticated user to manage AD; The objects I have to handle are Groups, Users and OrganizationalUnits; I intend to use the Façade design pattern to provider ease of use and a fully reusable code; I plan to write a factory for each of the objects managed (group, ou, user); The use of Attributes should be useful here, I guess; As everything is about the DirectoryEntry class when accessing the AD, it seems a good candidate for generic types. Obligatory features: User creates new OUs manually; User creates new group manually; User creates new user (these users are services accounts) manually; Application reads an XML file which contains the OUs, groups and users to create; Application informs the user about the OUs, groups and users that shall be created; User specifies the domain environment where to migrate the XML input file designated objects; User makes changes if needed, and launches the task operations; Application performs required by the XML input file operations against the underlying AD as specified by the user; Application informs the user upon completion. Linear features: User fetches OUs, groups, users; User changes OUs, groups, users; User deletes OUs, groups, users; The application logs AD entries and operations performed, plus errors and exceptions; Nice-to-have features: Application rollbacks operations on error or exception. I've been working for weeks now to get acquainted with the AD and the System.DirectoryServices assembly. But I don't seem to find a way to be fully satisfied with what I'm doing and always looking for better. I have studied Bret de Smet's Linq to AD on CodePlex, but then again, I can't use it as I'm stuck with .NET 2.0, so no Linq! But I've learned about Attributes, and seen that he's working with generic types as he codes a DirectorySource class to perform the operations for OUs, groups and users. I have been able to add groups to the AD; I have been able to add users to the AD; The created user is automatically disabled? I seem to get confused with the use of a LDAP path to add objects. For instance, one needs two instances of a System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry class to add a group, for instance. Why this? Any suggestions? Thanks for any help, code sample, ideas, architural solution, everything!

  • does lucene search function work in large size document?

    - by shaon-fan
Hi,there I have a problem when do search with lucene. First, in lucene indexing function, it works well to huge size document. such as .pst file, the outlook mail storage. It can build indexing file include all the information of .pst. The only problem is to large sometimes, include very much words. So when i search using lucene, it only can process the front part of this indexing file, if one word come out the back part of the indexing file, it couldn't find this word and no hits in result. But when i separate this indexing file to several parts in stupid way when debugging, and searching every parts, it can work well. So i want to know how to separate indexing file, how much size should be the limit of searching? cheers and wait 4 reply. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ hi,there, follow Coady siad, i set the length to max 2^31-1. But the search result still can't include what i want. simply, i convert the doc word to string array[] to analyze, one doc word has 79680 words include the space and any symbol. when i search certain word, it just return 300 count, actually it has more than 300 results. The same reason, when i search a word in back part of the doc, it also couldn't find. //////////////set the length idexwriter.SetMaxFieldLength(2147483647); ////////////////////search IndexSearcher searcher = new ndexSearcher(Program.Parameters["INDEX_LOCATION"].ToString()); Hits hits = searcher.Search(query); This is my code, as others same. I found that problem when i need to count every word hits in a doc. So i also found it couldn't search word in back part of doc. pls help me to find, is there any set searcher length somewhere? how u meet this problem.

  • How can I create an executable to run on a certain processor architecture (instead of certain OS)?

    - by CrazyJugglerDrummer
So I take my C++ program in Visual studio, compile, and it'll spit out a nice little EXE file. But EXEs will only run on windows, and I hear a lot about how C/C++ compiles into assembly language, which is runs directly on a processor. The EXE runs with the help of windows, or I could have a program that makes an executable that runs on a mac. But aren't I compiling C++ code into assembly language, which is processor specific? My Insights: I'm guessing I'm probably not. I know there's an Intel C++ compiler, so would it make processor-specific assembly code? EXEs run on windows, so they advantage of tons of things already set up, from graphics packages to the massive .NET framework. A processor-specific executable would be literally starting from scratch, with just the instruction set of the processor. Would this executable be a file-type? We could be running windows and open it, but then would control switch to processor only? I assume this executable would be something like an operating system, in that it would have to be run before anything else was booted up, and have only the processor instruction set to "use".

  • How to pass a filename to a shortcut in Windows
