• Installed ASUS HD4670, now unable to install ANY Debian due to low memory corruption

  I have a desktop PC which initially had the Intel D946gzis mobo, its chipset as video controller, some RAM and so. There I installed Debian without a problem alongside WindowsXP. I've bought an ASUS HD 4670 video card, installed it on the PC and now the installed Debian does not work, while the Ubuntu live CD refuses to run no matter if I set acpi, apic on or off... it throws me some low memory corruption at position just like shown here. With normal configuration, Debian throws kernel panic (keyboard lights blinking). Anyone have faced this before? Ideas? Thanks!! (meanwhile, debian hides in a virtualbox :'( ) Edited: Tried Ubuntu 9.10 x64 (due to the fact i've a core2duo at 2GHz) and it throws a kernel-panic to me (flashing caps and num LEDs). On screen, can be read different lines with things like: ... [ 1.957161] [] rb_erase+0xd6/0x160 [ 1.957266] [] page_fault+0x25/0x30 Could it be something about this new video card having ddr3?

• How to install mod_wsgi 3.1 on Ubuntu 9.10

  I have a Python 3 web app so mod_wsgi < 3.1 doesn't cut it for me. However, on my Ubuntu 9.10 installation there doesn't seem to be a package for mod_wsgi 3.1. Is there an alternative repository that has a package for mod_wsgi 3.1? There's a new Ubuntu release not so long from now, will it contain mod_wsgi 3.1? Some other distro ready with mod_wsgi 3.1 to recommend? Maybe my best bet is to compile it myself? From a quick google it looks like I only need the python and apache dev packages installed. Thanks!

  To see more information in Windows Explorer property pages and menus about Matroska Video (.mkv) files, similar to what one can see when selecting native Windows media (.avi, .asf, .wmv or even just plain old mpg) files, Matroska links (from http://www.matroska.org/downloads/windows.html) to a download of the MatroskaProp shell extension (http://www.jory.info/serendipity/archives/14-MatroskaProp-2.8-Released.html). It used to work for me under Windows XP 32-bit. Now I have Windows 7 x64, and downloaded, installed and ran it. Configuration and settings page is fine. But it does not seem to actually register any shell extension. Nothing is added to Explorer windows, menus or property pages when selecting .mkv or .mks files). I tried calling the register hook manually using regsvr32.dll, that again invoked the configuration window and let me set all options, and when confirming even said the registration succeeded, but seems to have had no effect. In the registry I cannot find any traces of the shell extension being installed. Can this extension be made to work under Windows 7 or x64 systems? Are there known problems with installing this or other old shell extensions on x64, or on Windows 7?

  I am trying to get what I thought was an easy process working. Here is my situation. I have a remote linux server (running Debian) that I would like to turn into a VM so that I can do testing on it rather than the production server. I downloaded VMWare Converter. I went to the "convert machine" wizard, chose Powered-on machine, entered my remote machine details. Clicking next shows that it correctly connects to my remote linux box. Now, on the next screen, for Destination type, it enters "WMWare Infrastructure virtual machine", and I can't change this. This is where I am stuck. Why do I need another sever to convert with? Is this where my VM gets sent to? And why can't I just convert the VM and save it on the computer that I am running the converter program on? If I do have to use a vmware infrastructure destination, I am confused at what ESX is, why and how I use it. Any help with this process would be more than appreciated!

  I'm not sure if I'm just not asking Google properly or what, but I can't come up with a good answer to this problem. We have MDT 2010 setup and have a Task Sequence for refreshing Windows XP machines. It doesn't seem to happen all the time, but a lot of the time when we start a refresh it goes through the normal motions and when it gets into the first part of Windows XP setup (the blue screen) it stops, telling me a Windows installation already exists at that location and I can press L to continue, erasing everything and using that folder. I've poured over the unattend file and can't find an option that will just delete the old files and keep going, so I'm at a loss. Any ideas?

  I'll be receiving a new notebook in a few days and was planning on running Ubuntu on it as it's compatible and the notebook has no OS pre-installed. The specifications are: Core 2 Duo, T6600, 4 GB RAM, Intel integrated graphics. I know a year or two ago, running a 64-bit version of Ubuntu was not advised due to much of the applications and plugins (e.g. Flash) only running on 32-bit. Is this still the case? Would I get better performance with 64-bit Ubuntu since I have 4 GB of RAM? Are there any downsides anymore?

Device is "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U10N ATA Device". It appears on device manager but with the yellow tag; have tried uninstalling, searching for drivers, everything I can think of. • Unable to install PEM/pkcs12 created by gnutls to Cisco ASA

  I've been pulling some hair out trying to figure out why cisco devices don't like my certificates. My primary need is to get a trustpoint set up with CA,cert,key on the ASA for VPN systems, however I'm having the same issues on my IOS devices. I created a pkcs12 with openssl a few months ago that imported with no issues, but now that I'm getting ready to move this lab to production I'm using gnutls certtool as I found it adds alt_dns and ip_address fields properly to the certificate, (which cost me a few more hairs trying to get to work with openssl's ca tool) I'm including the current test certs below, don't worry I'm not using these in production ;) The maddening thing is that after I thought gnutls was generating certs incorrectly, I tried making a pkcs12 for a printserver and it imported with no issues. Here's my command flow for creating these certs: certtool --generate-privkey --disable-quick-random --outfile nn-ca.key certtool --generate-self-signed --load-privkey nn-ca.key --outfile nn-ca.crt certtool --generate-privkey --disable-quick-random --outfile nn-g0.key certtool --generate-certificate --load-privkey nn-g0.key --outfile nn-g0.crt --load-ca-privkey nn-ca.key --load-ca-certificate nn-ca.crt openssl pkcs12 -export -certfile nn-ca.crt -in nn-g0.crt -inkey nn-g0.key -out nn-g0.p12 openssl enc -base64 -in nn-g0.p12 -out nn-g0.base64.p12 The password for the attatched pkcs12 is "ciscohelp" without quotes. • Snort install issue on debian 6 with libpcre - libpcre library not found

  I've read the manual on snort.org for installing snort on Debian but am still having an issue. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I've tried installing the libpcre3 amd libpcre3-dev packages by using apt-get and also manually installing by downloading the latest version off the tcpdump website. Any ideas? Checking for pcre-compile in -l pcre...no Error! Libpcre library not found. Get it from http://www.pcre.org

  I've installed the "emacs" package from yum, but typing emacs at the terminal doesn't launch the GUI version. I was under the impression it installed by default, and emacs -nw would be used for the terminal version. Is there a GUI package available for Fedora 14 (GNOME)? I couldn't find "emacs-gtk" or "emacs-gnome" or any X packages with yum search emacs-. Edit: To clarify, this is about GNU Emacs and not XEmacs.

• Enable automatic driver install in Windows XP

  When Windows detects new hardware (be it graphic card or USB Peripheral) it automatically installs driver and if it can't find a driver it shows "Found New hardware wizard" that allows you to manually select a driver. My problem is that this "Found New hardware wizard" shows up every time when I plug a new device and I have to click Next Next Next.. until it finishes installation. It's just like in Windows 98 ;) I want to fix it to the way it's supposed to be. It's got nothing to do with "Windows Update" and "Driver Signing" settings in "System properties - Hardware" tab, those are on default settings. Here is the same problem I have, but those replies ale completely useless
