NSMutableObject from existing custom class

Hello there. I have an existing class that has methods to deserialise from XML in my code. Now I need to create correct CoreData model from that class. It's objects will be created not only from CoreData storage but also by deserializing XML (somehow like instance->title = [[NSString stringWithUTF8String: (const char *)subNode->children->content] retain; ) without saving to CoreData, and sometimes I need to save it. What is the correct steps to modify existing class to do that except of adding CoreData framework and making my class an NSManagedObject instead of NSObject? Cross-browser padding/margins

Hi All, I was wondering if you could give me some helpful hints on how to correct this issue? I have a main menu on my site, the code for it is as follows: li:hover { background-color: #222222; padding-top: 8px; padding-bottom: 9px; } And here's a demo of what it actually looks like: The problem is that when I hover over a menu option (li), the background appears, but it overflows to the outside of the menu's background, and makes it look really dodgy/crap/cheap/yuck! Note that (obviously) when I change the padding to make it display correctly in these browsers, it appears too small in height in IE! So I'm screwed either way. How can I make little imperfections like this look the same in all browsers? Does this mimic perfectly a function template specialization?

Since the function template in the following code is a member of a class template, it can't be specialized without specializing the enclosing class. But if the compiler's full optimizations are on (assume Visual Studio 2010), will the if-else-statement in the following code get optimized out? Parallel scroll textarea and webpage with jquery

This is both a conceptual and how-to question: In wiki formatting, or non WYSIWYG editor scenarios, you typically have a textarea for content entry and then an ancillary preview pane to show results, just like StackOverflow. This works fairly well, except with larger amounts of text, such as full page wikis, etc. I have a concept that I'd like critical feedback/advice on: Envision a two pane layout, with the preview content on the left side, taking up ~ 2/3 of the page, and the textarea on the right side, taking up ~ 1/3 of the page. The textarea would float, to remain in view, even if the user scrolls the browser window. Furthermore, if the user scrolls the textarea content, supposing it has exceeded the textarea's frame size, the page would scroll so that the content presently showing in the textarea syncs/is parallel with the content showing in the browser window. I'm imagining a wiki scenario, where going back and forth between markup and preview is frustrating. I'm curious what others think; is there anything out there like this? Any suggestions on how to attack this functionality (ideally using jquery)? Thanks

Great examples of self-paced labs and exercises

It is probably a safe bet that many of us are what they call Tactile / Kinesthetic Learners meaning that we learn best when we are physically doing something as opposed to listening to an online tutorial or reading a book. My goal with this question is to derive a list of books or online resources that serve as superb examples of self-paced programming labs and exercises. For example, I was extremely impressed with the SportsStore exercise in Steven Sanderson's Pro ASP.NET MVC Framework. The exercise spanned multiple chapters and gradually introduced new topics. I was also impressed with the materials associated with the Windows Azure Boot Camp. The demos and lab materials, accessible through the website, allow us to practice and reinforce what we can read about in articles and books. Please list any examples you might have, one per submission, below. The question is language/platform agnostic. Suggestions can be generic or specific to a given technology (PHP, SQL Server, Azure, Flash, Objective C, etc.). I only ask that the answers pertain to labs and exercises that relate to programming. My hope is that the best answers will float to the top allowing developers to review the top answers and find another programming topic that can be learned through example.

How can I extend this SQL query to find the k nearest neighbors?

I have a database full of two-dimensional data - points on a map. Each record has a field of the geometry type. What I need to be able to do is pass a point to a stored procedure which returns the k nearest points (k would also be passed to the sproc, but that's easy). I've found a query at http://blogs.msdn.com/isaac/archive/2008/10/23/nearest-neighbors.aspx which gets the single nearest neighbour, but I can't figure how to extend it to find the k nearest neighbours. This is the current query - T is the table, g is the geometry field, @x is the point to search around, Numbers is a table with integers 1 to n: DECLARE @start FLOAT = 1000; WITH NearestPoints AS ( SELECT TOP(1) WITH TIES *, T.g.STDistance(@x) AS dist FROM Numbers JOIN T WITH(INDEX(spatial_index)) ON T.g.STDistance(@x) < @start*POWER(2,Numbers.n) ORDER BY n ) SELECT TOP(1) * FROM NearestPoints ORDER BY n, dist The inner query selects the nearest non-empty region and the outer query then selects the top result from that region; the outer query can easily be changed to (e.g.) SELECT TOP(20), but if the nearest region only contains one result, you're stuck with that. I figure I probably need to recursively search for the first region containing k records, but without using a table variable (which would cause maintenance problems as you have to create the table structure and it's liable to change - there're lots of fields), I can't see how.

Can Haskell's Parsec library be used to implement a recursive descent parser with backup?

I've been considering using Haskell's Parsec parsing library to parse a subset of Java as a recursive descent parser as an alternative to more traditional parser-generator solutions like Happy. Parsec seems very easy to use, and parse speed is definitely not a factor for me. I'm wondering, though, if it's possible to implement "backup" with Parsec, a technique which finds the correct production to use by trying each one in turn. For a simple example, consider the very start of the JLS Java grammar: Literal: IntegerLiteral FloatingPointLiteral I'd like a way to not have to figure out how I should order these two rules to get the parse to succeed. As it stands, a naive implementation like this: literal = do { x <- try (do { v <- integer; return (IntLiteral v)}) <|> (do { v <- float; return (FPLiteral v)}); return(Literal x) } Will not work... inputs like "15.2" will cause the integer parser to succeed first, and then the whole thing will choke on the "." symbol. In this case, of course, it's obvious that you can solve the problem by re-ordering the two productions. In the general case, though, finding things like this is going to be a nightmare, and it's very likely that I'll miss some cases. Ideally, I'd like a way to have Parsec figure out stuff like this for me. Is this possible, or am I simply trying to do too much with the library? The Parsec documentation claims that it can "parse context-sensitive, infinite look-ahead grammars", so it seems like something like I should be able to do something here.

I'm trying to use MVC2 client-side validation in a partial view that is rendered via $.get. However, the client validation isn't working. I'm not quite sure what the deal is. jquery ui tabs problem

hi good people, been a while I have had my hands full with a cold but I came back to a problem we never found an answer to, it the homepage of a site I am workin and I said that my tabs would just scatter on a resolution less than mine or around it but not quite. I am on a 1280x800 screen and it displays no problem but as soon as I drop to 1024x768 or 1280x1024 or anything like that this is what it looks like. I wanted to post the code but it means posting alot of HTML and I don't think that will be healthy. hopefully the screenshot will. some one said a while back that my tabs were too big so i reduced them and still. here is the screen shot though: HERE IS THE CSS THAT POWERS THE ADVERTS. In my game, when I tilt the device, the character moves and faces the correct direction, but does not animate. I am using an animated UIImageView. CSS: Horizontal scrolling with overflow-x

Hello fellow programmers, I was wondering if there still isn't a good way to get a div to stretch and scroll horizontally, according to the images inside. -After all, it is 2011 now! The mega-width does the trick, but leaves an empty mega-space if not filled with images. If filled too much, images don't display. Same for the jQuery. I am using the below code for my WordPress site which is emailing all the form details as an HTML text but I need the details to be written into a PDF first and then have to email the PDF as an attachment. How can I achieve this? This is not a PHP code to use PHP's writePDF modules. Computing complex math equations in python

Are there any libraries or techniques that simplify computing equations ? Take the following two examples: F = B * { [ a * b * sumOf (A / B ''' for all i ''' ) ] / [ sumOf(c * d * j) ] } where: F = cost from i to j B, a, b, c, d, j are all vectors in the format [ [zone_i, zone_j, cost_of_i_to_j], [..]] This should produce a vector F [ [1,2, F_1_2], ..., [i,j, F_i_j] ] T_ij = [ P_i * A_i * F_i_j] / [ SumOf [ Aj * F_i_j ] // j = 1 to j = n ] where: n is the number of zones T = vector [ [1, 2, A_1_2, P_1_2], ..., [i, j, A_i_j, P_i_j] ] F = vector [1, 2, F_1_2], ..., [i, j, F_i_j] so P_i would be the sum of all P_i_j for all j and Aj would be sum of all P_j for all i I'm not sure what I'm looking for, but perhaps a parser for these equations or methods to deal with multiple multiplications and products between vectors? To calculate some of the factors, for example A_j, this is what i use from collections import defaultdict A_j_dict = defaultdict(float) for A_item in TG: A_j_dict[A_item[1]] += A_item[3] Although this works fine, I really feel that it is a brute force / hacking method and unmaintainable in the case we want to add more variables or parameters. Are there any math equation parsers you'd recommend? Side Note: These equations are used to model travel. Currently I use excel to solve a lot of these equations; and I find that process to be daunting. I'd rather move to python where it pulls the data directly from our database (postgres) and outputs the results into the database. All that is figured out. Fixed div background

I want to create a layout where I want to display an image to the left and content on the right. The image should stay constant when the content scrolls. My question is how do I go about creating that kind of layout? I do not want to give that image as a background image, as if the window is resized, it might get hidden. I want scrollbars to appear if the window size is less than 900px( my page width) so that the image can be viewed at all times. That happens with this code, however I would like the image to start at my element instead. How do I go about doing this?? Thanks in Advance :)

Commit is VERY slow in my NHibernate / SQLite project

I've just started doing some real-world performance testing on my Fluent NHibernate / SQLite project, and am experiencing some serious delays when when I Commit to the database. By serious, I mean taking 20 - 30 seconds to Commit 30 K of data! This delay seems to get worse as the database grows. When the SQLite DB file is empty, commits happen almost instantly, but when it grows to 10 Meg, I see these huge delays. The database has 16 tables, averaging 10 columns each. One possible problem is that I'm storing a dozen or so IList members, but they are typically only 200 elements long. But this is a recent addition to Fluent NHibernate automapping, which stores each float in a single table row, so maybe that's a potential problem. Any suggestions on how to track this down? I suspect SQLite is the culprit, but maybe it's NHibernate? I don't have any experience with profilers, but am thinking of getting one. I'm aware of NHibernate Profiler - any recommendations for profilers that work well with SQLite? Why boost property tree write_json saves everything as string? Is it possible to change that?

I'm trying to serialize using boost property tree write_json, it saves everything as strings, it's not that data are wrong, but I need to cast them explicitly every time and I want to use them somewhere else. (like in python or other C++ json (non boost) library) here is some sample code and what I get depending on locale: boost::property_tree::ptree root, arr, elem1, elem2; elem1.put<int>("key0", 0); elem1.put<bool>("key1", true); elem2.put<float>("key2", 2.2f); elem2.put<double>("key3", 3.3); arr.push_back( std::make_pair("", elem1) ); arr.push_back( std::make_pair("", elem2) ); root.put_child("path1.path2", arr); std::stringstream ss; write_json(ss, root); std::string my_string_to_send_somewhare_else = ss.str(); and my_string_to_send_somewhere_else is sth. like this: { "path1" : { "path2" : [ { "key0" : "0", "key1" : "true" }, { "key2" : "2.2", "key3" : "3.3" } ] } } Is there anyway to save them as the values, like: "key1" : true or "key2" : 2.2 ?

Tool for generating flat files from SQL objects dynamically

Hello! I'm looking for a tool or component that generates flat files given a SQL Server's query result (from a stored procedure or a SELECT * over a table or view). This will be a batch process which runs every day, and every day a new file is created. I could use SQL Server Integration Services (DTS), but I have a mandatory requirement: the output of the file need to be dynamic. If a new column is added in my query result, the file must have this new column too, without having to modify my SSIS package. If a column is removed, then the flat file no longer will have it. I’ve tried to do this with SSIS, but when I create a new package I need to specify the number of columns. Another requirement is configuring the format of the output, depending on the data type of the column. If it’s a datetime, the format needs to be YYYY-MM-DD. If it’s a float, then I need to use 2 decimal digits, and so on. Does anyone know a tool that does this job? Thanks

Android animation's first frame is applied too early on ImageView

It seems like the first frame of the animation is loaded already. Only after the animation is completed, does the photoImageView "snap" back to the intended location. I've looked and looked and could not find how to avoid this problem. I want the photoImageView to start in the center of the screen, and then the animation to happen, and return it to the center of the screen. The animation should happen by itself without interaction from the user.

I need the view to show the road polygon (a rectangle 3.f * 100.f) with a vanishing point for a road being at 3/4 height of the viewport and the nearest road edge as a viewport's bottom side. See Crazy Taxi game for an example of what I wish to do. I'm using iPhone SDK 3.1.2 default OpenGL ES project template. DSP - Filtering frequencies using DFT

I'm trying to implement a DFT-based 8-band equalizer for the sole purpose of learning. To prove that my DFT implementation works I fed an audio signal, analyzed it and then resynthesized it again with no modifications made to the frequency spectrum. So far so good. I'm using the so-called 'standard way of calculating the DFT' which is by correlation. This method calculates the real and imaginary parts both N/2 + 1 samples in length. To attenuate a frequency I'm just doing: float atnFactor = 0.6; Re[k] *= atnFactor; Im[k] *= atnFactor; where 'k' is an index in the range 0 to N/2, but what I get after resynthesis is a slighty distorted signal, especially at low frequencies. The input signal sample rate is 44.1 khz and since I just want a 8-band equalizer I'm feeding the DFT 16 samples at a time so I have 8 frequency bins to play with. Can someone show me what I'm doing wrong? I tried to find info on this subject on the internet but couldn't find any. Thanks in advance.
