  • Image rotate to mouse using Jquery and CSS

    - by James
    I have a compass image and am trying to get the needle to follow the mouse around the page, exactly how the images are rotated in the following demo but without having to shift and click. I'm having trouble breaking down that code however, so any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance. http://www.elated.com/res/File/articles/development/javascript/jquery/smooth-rotatable-images-css3-jquery/ The images are simply wrapped in a div <div id="content"> <img id="compass" src="compass.png"/> <img id="needle" src="needle.png"/> </div>

  • jquery toggle+paginate+multiple instances

    - by mark
    Hi, I'm a jquery newbie - wanted to ask what might be the best strategy for achieving what I am after as I think it uses a mix of jquery functions : If list of items exceeds 5 items a 'more' link appears which when toggled will reveal the rest of the items. If items list is 5 or less no 'more' link is shown. Hide button also at bottom of long full revealed list. (perhaps this is toggle+pagination?) And then also that this can be used in multiple instances, as it is for multiple category menu's.(to be used in typical indexhibit websites structure like http://mikeyburton.com/) link 1 link 2 link 3 link 4 link 5 link 6 link 7 link 8 more Any help or links greatly appreciated.

  • jQuery hovering a div

    - by cxn
    I'm fairly new to jQuery and I really can't get my head around this one. I'm trying to select <a href="contact"><div id="res">Reserveren</div></a>. This is my jQuery code: $(document).ready(function() { $('#res').hover( function () { $(this).animate({backgroundColor: "#fff" }); }, function () { $(this).animate({backgroundColor: "#000" }); } }); However, nothing is working. It doesn't change anything at all... What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance, Bart

  • jQuery Dialog theme not being applied

    - by Tim
    I'm using jquery-1.4.2.min.js and jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js. According to Firebug, both minimized scripts have been loaded. They both appear in the dropdown list on Firebug's Scripts tab. The dialog is launching, but there's no background and so the text below it shows through, and there's no "window" stuff at all, no titlebar, no X button. Just the floating/draggable text with a -close- link at the top left corner. I was under the impression from reading these pages http://jqueryui.com/demos/dialog/ http://jqueryui.com/themeroller/ that the UI theme-driven appearance would be automatically applied to the dialog when it was invoked using this barebones call: $('#dialog').dialog() I would be grateful for suggestions on how to troubleshoot this. Thanks

  • jquery select problem

    - by codedude
    Say I have an unordered list like so: <ul> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> <li>Some Text</li> </ul> I want to use jquery so that when I click a "li", the background changes to blue. So I do this: $('li').click(function() { $(this).addClass('active'); }); And the "active" class has as background of blue. However, I can't figure out how to make it so that when I click another "li", the other "li" that has a background of blue stops having a background of blue. I guess what I'm trying to say is how to make only one "li" have a background of blue at a time--using jquery.

  • jQuery textbox required validation based on another text box having text

    - by doug
    Pretty basic question, however, I am very new to jQuery and javascript in general. I have a jQuery validation that is requiring a text box to have text in it, if a checkbox is checked. <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { $("form").validate( { rules: { Comments: { required: "#IsAbnormal:checked" } }, messages: { Comments: { required: "Comments are required" } }, onkeyup: false, wrapper: "", errorLabelContainer: "#ErrorMessageBox" }); }); Pretty straight forward, if you check the IsAbnormal checkbox, it will throw a validation if there are no comments. What I am trying to do is require a textbox based on if another text box has any text in it, for instance require the old password if a user enters a new password into a textbox. Is there an easy way to get the required: "#NewPassword:NotBlank" to work?

    - by Emmanuel Imwene
    simple query,but it's giving me a headache, i need a division to be updated with a changed session variable each time a user clicks on a name,i figured i'd use .html() using jquery to update the division, i don't know if you can do this, but here goes: $("#inner").html('<?php session_start(); if(file_exists($_SESSION['full'])||file_exists($_SESSION['str'])){ if(file_exists($_SESSION['full'])) { $full=$_SESSION['full']; $handlle = fopen($full, "r"); $contents = fread($handlle, filesize($full)); fclose($handlle); echo $contents; echo '<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.8.0.min (1).js">'; echo '</script>'; echo '<script type="text/javascript">'; echo 'function loadLog(){ var oldscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; $.ajax({ url: \''.$_SESSION['full'].'\', cache: false, success: function(html){ $("#inner").html(html); //Insert chat log into the #chatbox div var newscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; if(newscrollHeight > oldscrollHeight){ $("#inner").animate({ scrollTop: newscrollHeight }, \'normal\'); //Autoscroll to bottom of div } }, }); } setInterval (loadLog, 2500);'; echo '</script>'; } else { $str=$_SESSION['str']; if(file_exists($str)) { $handle = fopen($str, 'r'); $contents = fread($handle, filesize($str)); fclose($handle); echo $contents; $full=$_SESSION['full']; $handlle = fopen($full, "r"); $contents = fread($handlle, filesize($full)); fclose($handlle); echo $contents; echo '<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.8.0.min (1).js">'; echo '</script>'; echo '<script type="text/javascript">'; echo 'function loadLog(){ var oldscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; $.ajax({ url: \''.$_SESSION['str'].'\', cache: false, success: function(html){ $("#inner").html(html); //Insert chat log into the #chatbox div var newscrollHeight = $("#inner").attr("scrollHeight") - 20; if(newscrollHeight > oldscrollHeight){ $("#inner").animate({ scrollTop: newscrollHeight }, \'normal\'); //Autoscroll to bottom of div } }, }); } setInterval (loadLog, 2500);'; echo '</script>'; } } } ?>'); is that legal, if not, how would i accomplish this?

  • Simple modal div in jQuery?

    - by jasondavis
    I have tried almost all of the jQuery Modal plkugins I can find on the net but they are all much to bulky for what I need. I dont need all the fancy features, I want to be able to open a div and have the background of the page go transparent grey like the photo below and have my div be on top of it, that is all I need to do so I would like to write some jquery to do this instead of using a bulky plugin. Does anyone have any small code that can do this task? Is the transparent background an image or just css?

  • Override tablesorter CSS

    - by user1712810
    I am using jquery tablesorter. When the page loads, I have a code to highlight the background color of certain rows in the table. Since tablesorter is used I guess it overrides the css and not allowing to change the background color of the rows. This is the code. This function automatically loads when the page gets loaded. I removed table-sorter to the table and tried this. It works. I have to get it to work with the table-sorter applied. $(document).ready(function() { var row, len, results; row = 0; results = []; while (row < len) { if ($("#tab1 #example_"+row+"chkbx").is(":checked")) { $("#tab1 #example_" + row).css("background-color", "#c6b79f"); } row++; } return results; });

  • jQuery code works in Firebug, but not on its own

    - by Ben
    I'm having quite the brainbuster of an issue right now. I am trying to change a link's hash tag at the end from "respond" to "comments" with jQuery. I have a simple script that should do this, however it does not work. The link does not change. However, Firebug shows no errors and when I run the code in Firebug's console, it works just as I intend. Why doesn't this work on its own? Does anybody have a solution, I'm at my wits edge with this one. (function ($) { $(document).ready(function() { $("a[href$='respond']").each(function() { $(this).attr("href", $(this).attr('href').replace("respond", "comments")); }); }); })(jQuery.noConflict()); Thanks so much, I know this might be a pain to test but I'm really thankful.

  • Self Executing jQuery Plugin?

    - by GnrlBzik
    I am working on expansion of my jQuery plug-in authoring knowledge, just playing around with my own ideas for learning benefits. So i was wondering how you guys tackle the need of plugin executing without any user specific input. So I have a need for plug-in that executes right away after document is ready, without any user's specific input just as long as doc is loaded, so the only way I see how to execute plug-in on it's own is to attach handler to ready listener that executes my function which I extended the jQuery with. And because this needs to be self enclosed, part of the code, I attach handler to event listener within the function. So how else could one tackle this? Any take at this is appreciated. Thank you in advance everyone.

  • How to use JQuery to remove dynamic content?

    - by ed.talmadge
    I have an html page that is generated by a CMS. I cannot modify the page, but can add JavaScript. Each time the page loads, a JavaScript function (that I cannot modify) dynamically inserts a paragraph onto the page. How can I use JQuery to .remove() that paragraph whenever it is loaded? For example, when the page first loads, it look like this (blank): <div></div> Then, a few seconds later, a JavaScript function (that I have no control over) adds a paragraph to the page. The page then looks like this: <div><p id="foo">bar</p></div> How can I use JQuery to remove the paragraph with id=foo each time it is dynamically loaded onto the page?

  • Ruby and jQuery -- $(document).ajaxSend() not modifying the params as expected

    - by Jason
    I cannot get jquery's ajaxSend (http://api.jquery.com/ajaxSend/) to properly modify the parameters. I have: $(document).ajaxSend(function(event, request, settings) { settings.data = $.deparam(settings.data); settings.data['random'] = new Date().getTime(); settings.data['_method'] = 'get'; settings.data = $.param(settings.data) $.log(settings); }); $(document).ready(function() { //...snip... $.ajaxSetup({ data : { remote : 1, authenticity_token : encodeURIComponent(AUTH_TOKEN) } }); }); The idea here is that we always want 4 param sent across: remote and auth_token always get set properly. However, random and _method (both needed for IE issues) do not get set. Logging settings inside ajaxSend shows me that they are set to settings.data: "remote=1&authenticity_token=6GA9R_snip_253D&random=1270584905846&_method=get" but when it gets sent across the wire, I only have the following: authenticity_token 6GA9R_snip_253D remote 1 Why in the world is this not working?

  • Change CkEditor's background color with jQuery methods

    - by user198003
    I need to change background color of CkEditor, on some basic jQuery methods, like ready, change, etc. Tried with things like: $(document).on('click','.change-task-status', function(e){ $(".cke_editable").css("background-color", 'red'); }) ... but nothing happens. Can you help me how to achieve this? Thank you in advance! PS. yes, I do have jQuery adapter loaded on page. UPDATE: Some improvement is made - when I run next code in console, it changes background color $( ".cke_wysiwyg_frame" ).contents().find( ".cke_editable" ).css( "background-color", "#BADA55" ); Now just to find why it does not execute in code...

  • jQuery > reset popup window 's x and y relative to icon that launched the window

    - by Scott B
    I have a jQuery jPicker colorpicker that is bound to an input text field and opens onclick of a small picker.gif icon. The problem I'm having is that (1) The colorpicker that opens does not appear to be positioned according to the x/y position of the picker.gif (it opens far away from the click point) and (2) The colorpicker does not seem to be aware of the viewport's scroll position (the top of the colorpicker is partially hidden at the top of the window). I'd like to use jQuery to reposition the colorpalette (1) Based on the x/y position of the input that its bound to and (2) reset it's top position based on the viewport's visible Y position. Here is the script where I am creating a new jPicker and binding it to my input text fields for header and sidebar... $('#myHeaderColor').jPicker ( {}, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); }, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); } ); $('#mySidebarColor').jPicker ( {}, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); }, function(color) { $(this).val(color.get_Hex()); } );

    - by Quamis
    Hello, i'm pretty new to jquery. I'm trying to insert an element to the DOM, and get that element back in my script. Ex: var elem = $("body").append(""); $(elem).show(); but it seems that .append returns the whole jQuery object.. am i supposed to use an ID for the inserted element and always reference it by it?? i really hope that there is a smarter move here. I'm used to do it like that from Prototype..

  • Opening all external links in Phongap's ChildBrowser using jQuery Mobile

    - by Adam
    I'm using jQuery Mobile & Phonegap, and have the following code to open all external links in a certain div with the ChildBrowser: $('.someDIV a').live('click', function() { var thisUrl = $(this).attr('href'); PhoneGap.exec("ChildBrowserCommand.showWebPage", thisUrl); return false; }); For some reason, while the page loads in the childbrowser, it also loads in the background, as if there's no "return false". I've found a workaround by giving the link's href attribute a value of "#", and using the title for the url like this: And updating the jQuery code accordingly, but this is a problem where my links are dynamically generated, and I can't have the url in the title attribute. Any ideas how to solve this?

  • Javascript table construction bug using JQuery in Firefox on Mac OSX

    - by Poita_
    I'm using some code to build up tables using JQuery, but in Firefox 3.5.3 on Mac OSX, the table cells all appear on separate lines by themselves, instead of in their respective rows. Chrome 5.0.342.7 beta on OSX correctly produces the table, as does Safari 4.0.5. Here is a minimal reproduction case: <html> <body> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { var b = $('body'); b.append("<table>"); for (var i = 0; i < 3; ++i) { b.append("<tr>"); for (var j = 0; j < 3; ++j) b.append("<td>x</td>"); b.append("</tr>"); } b.append("</table>"); }); </script> </body> </html> In Chrome and Safari, I get this correct output: x x x x x x x x x but Firefox produces: x x x x x x x x x Note that if I manually create that exact table without using Javascript (i.e. direct into the HTML) then the table appears correctly in Firefox. Also, if I change the JS to append then entire table in one call then it also works -- the only time it doesn't work is if you append it part-by-part as I have done before. My question is: is this to be expected, or should I report this as a bug to Firefox? I'm pretty sure this is a Firefox bug, but I'm a bit of a newbie to JS and web development in general, so perhaps there's something I'm missing? P.S. obviously there are easy ways to get around this -- that's not my concern. See above.

  • jQuery question from a person who can't javascript

    - by Evilalan
    So I'm trying to adapt this Dropdown menu on Joomla the styles work great as expected so I'll post the javascript includes on the head of my website: <script type='text/javascript' src='js/jquery.js'></script> <script type='text/javascript' src='js/dropdown.js'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> $(function() { $('.menu').droppy(); }); </script> <script type='text/javascript'> $(function() { $('.menu').droppy({speed: 100}); }); </script> ok I don't know why its is not working I'll post the dropdown.js should I post the jQuery too? it's really big! $.fn.droppy = function(options) { options = $.extend({speed: 250}, options || {}); this.each(function() { var root = this, zIndex = 1000; function getSubnav(ele) { if (ele.nodeName.toLowerCase() == 'li') { var subnav = $('> ul', ele); return subnav.length ? subnav[0] : null; } else { return ele; } } function getActuator(ele) { if (ele.nodeName.toLowerCase() == 'ul') { return $(ele).parents('li')[0]; } else { return ele; } } function hide() { var subnav = getSubnav(this); if (!subnav) return; $.data(subnav, 'cancelHide', false); setTimeout(function() { if (!$.data(subnav, 'cancelHide')) { $(subnav).slideUp(options.speed); } }, 500); } function show() { var subnav = getSubnav(this); if (!subnav) return; $.data(subnav, 'cancelHide', true); $(subnav).css({zIndex: zIndex++}).slideDown(options.speed); if (this.nodeName.toLowerCase() == 'ul') { var li = getActuator(this); $(li).addClass('hover'); $('> a', li).addClass('hover'); } } $('ul, li', this).hover(show, hide); $('li', this).hover( function() { $(this).addClass('hover'); $('> a', this).addClass('hover'); }, function() { $(this).removeClass('hover'); $('> a', this).removeClass('hover'); } ); }); }; My question here is: Why is it not working! I know that this is really complex (I don't anything about JavaScript) but if you help me I'll post a tutorial and edited files that will help a lot of people! By the way I've download jQuery from the original site so I don't think that this can be the problem! Thanks in advance!
