• RemoteApp Security Warning

  I have a Windows 2012 Standard x64 RemoteApps RDWeb portal where I can launch apps. We have one remote app in particular which is RDP (mstsc.exe). Whenever a user launches it, they receive three different prompts--the second one is this alert (shown below). How can I get rid of this alert? I have other RemoteApps launching as well, and they do not throw errors or alerts like this one. And they are applications with the .exe extension, so I do not understand what is so unique about the RDP RemoteApp that would cause this alert. One thing perhaps worth mentioning is this particular RDP remote app points directly to the mstsc.exe executable residing on a particular session host/terminal server (as shown in the "From" value of the warning). As such, a gateway server would not be used to load-balance and choose the RDP client launched from a session host at random. This RDP RemoteApp is explicitly associated with one particular terminal server.

• Switching BIOS SATA RAID/AHCI setting causes BSOD at Windows Start - Why?

  I just changed my disk setup from: 1 SATA HDD Primary OS Disk 2x SATA HDD Backup Disks in RAID 1 TO: 1 SATA SSD Primary OS Disk 1 SATA HDD Backup Disk [No RAID] Everything worked great, no problem. So, since I don't have a RAID array anymore, I decided that I could change my BIOS setting to AHCI instead of RAID. I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 mobo. These are my steps: Settings Integrated Peripherals "SATA RAID/AHCI Mode" = RAID -- Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome Next Step: Launch BIOS settings Integrated Peripherals "Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode" = RAID -- Changed this setting to AHCI Reboot Windows Start screen shows up, but as the color orbs are spinning into focus, BSOD and immediate restart Repeated reboot several times, same outcome Switch both settings back to RAID, reboot, and Windows starts up just fine, no issues. What am I missing? Why can't I set it to AHCI mode without BSODs?

• Storing multipe credentials for the same server.

  I have a need to connect to the same exchange server with multiple accounts. I'm using Extra Outlook to simultaneously load different profiles connecting to each account. Here's a simplified example of the accounts I need to use: log in to test.local.domain user1: [email protected] user2: [email protected] user3: [email protected] I am always being prompted for passwords when opening an Outlook instance. Essentialy only the last username/password combination for each server is stored by Vista. So if I launch Outlook with the same profile I used last, before starting launching using a profile for a different account, I'm not prompted for authentication. Aternatively, adding a new entry in Vista's Stored User Names and Passwords dialog with credentials for user2, when there is alraedy an entry for user1 on the same target server will replace the existing user1 entry with the new user 2 entry. I'm guessing the same thing is going on silently behind the scenes when I provide Outlook credentials. How can I configure Vista's credential management to store credentials for multiple users on the same server?

• Firefox Start page stay white

  Hi, I'm a Firefox user since several years so I know it but today I had a strange problem. I installed the last stable version of Firefox (3.5.5) on a computer but when I launch the browser the page stay empty (blank). In the settings I set the startpage as Google but nothing to do. When the browser starts in the address bar it is well written google.com but the page remains blank. I must click on the button in the address bar so that the site appears. I've never had this problem with Firefox, it's strange. Thanks

• windbg/cdb hangs when bp hit

  I have a problem where cdb or windbg hangs frequently, but not all the time, when I'm debugging with it and I attach to a specific application on my machine. I found this article: http://www.nynaeve.net/?p=164 which talks about a symbol loading race condition being the problem, but I can force load the symbols, actually have a breakpoint in-app work, and still have it hang elsewhere. Here is the stack from cdb itself when I attach to it with another debugger: ntdll!NtReadFile kernel32!ReadFile cdb!ReadNonConLine cdb!ConIn cdb!MainLoop cdb!main !analyze reports that APPLICATION_HANG_BusyHang is the problem bucket, and 'ReadNonConLine' is the offending function. as far as the stack goes: ffffffff`fffffffe 00000000`00000000 00000001`3f641498 00000000`0014ea50 : kernel32!ReadFile+0x86 00000000`000002a4 00000000`0014ebb0 00000000`00001000 00000000`00000000 : cdb!ReadNonConLine+0x6d ReadNonConLine has the string "g" at 0014ebb0 passed as a param, which may be part of the command I had at the hanging breakpoint (it was something like bp foo "dt a; g") ReadFile takes a handle as its first parameter. • How to marshal a COM-Parameter as VT_ARRAY of VT_RECORD

  I've already done some extensive search, but I can't seem to find anything matching my problem. The task I'm currently working on is to create a WCF-Wrapper for some DCOM-Objects. This already works great for the most parts, but now I'm stuck with one invocation that expects a VT_ARRAY containing VT_RECORD-Objects. Marshalling as VT_ARRAY is not a problem, but how can I tell COM that the elements in this array are VT_RECORDs? This is the invocation as I current use it. InitTestCase(testCaseName, parameterFileName, testCase, cellInfos.ToArray()); The parameter I'm talking about is the last one. It's defined as List<CellInfo>, CellInfo itself is already attributed with Guid("7D422961-331E-47E2-BC71-7839E9E77D39") and ComVisible(true). It's not a struct but a class. This is the condition failing on the native side: if (VT_RECORD == varCellConfig.vt)... Because of old software using these interfaces, changing the native side is not an option Any idea?

• HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() - what specific status codes cause an exception to be thrown?

  I've hunted around for some definitive documentation on this but haven't had much luck finding any. Basically - the question is - for which HTTP Status codes coming back from the server will HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() generate a WebException after doing something like say, a POST? Specifically - will it generate a WebException for anything other than status 200 OK? Or will it only generate a WebException for say, 400, 404, and 500 (for the sake of argument). I want to know since, the server I'm communicating with defines anything other than HTTP 200 OK coming back as an error condition - and the key is, can I rely on a WebException being generated for anything other than 200? (I've currently written my code so that it'll actually check the return status code everytime to ensure it's 200 OK and if it's not, take appropriate action - but it's alot of duplication between that, and the catch block for a WebException, and I'm hoping to clean it up...) Any relevant links to documentation would be most appreciated. Thanks!

  As the title says, I'm trying to find how to run adb commands through a pre-written script (such as how .bat and .vbs files work) so I can make a semi automatic program to pull some files from my android phone whenever I click on the launch.bat which launches a line of program to go through the phone and find certain files. I know the script line: adb pull /data/data/kik.android/databases/ %drive%\All\Database This copies all the files in this specific database into the flash drive's folder "Database" under the "All" folder. But, how could i make it so that the adb program looks through the phone and finds other files, and how could i pull the specific files, rather than pulling the entire folder?

Which is killing rdpclip process in Task Manger (tab "Processes") and launching it gain by: switching to tab Applications -- pressing button "New Task..." -- typing 'rdpclip'-- clicking OK. Well, I do not need to type 'rdpclip' if it is the last used command. The problem that in "Create New Task" of Windows Task Manager I always launch rdpclip only but it shows the last run program from Windows command prompt (Win +R), usually it is "notepad" for me. Is it possible to bind the last used command/task to Task Manager only? and how?

• Resize videos with different widths to a fixed height preserving aspect ratio with ffmpeg

  I'd like to convert a lot of video files to flash video for our company's website. I have a requirement that all of the videos must be in 360p format, so their size would be Nx360. FFMpeg uses -s argument to specify target resolution as WxH. I don't know Width, as it depends on source file aspect ratio. If source is 640x480, target will be 480x360. If source is 848x480, target will be 636x360. Is there a way to do it with some switch of ffmpeg? That it will preserve aspect ratio and I'll only specify the height of target video? I could easily solve it by making a program that will launch ffprobe to get source video size, calculate aspect ratio and then calculate a new width.

• linux pthread_suspend

  Looks like linux doesnt implement pthread_suspend and continue, but I really need em. I have tried cond_wait, but it is too slow. The work being threaded mostly executes in 50us but occasionally executes upwards of 500ms. The problem with cond_wait is two-fold. The mutex locking is taking comparable times to the micro second executions and I don't need locking. Second, I have many worker threads and I don't really want to make N condition variables when they need to be woken up. I know exactly which thread is waiting for which work and could just pthread_continue that thread. A thread knows when there is no more work and can easily pthread_suspend itself. This would use no locking, avoid the stampede, and be faster. Problem is....no pthread_suspend or _continue. Any ideas?

• SBS 2003 no network connection and acting strangely a bunch of Event ID 13568

  I've got an SBS 2003 Standard server and it was running fine until earlier today when it was rebooted, after the reboot it has no network connection, I can't seem to right click on a lot of stuff and get dialog boxes, I can't launch IE, it's acting extremely strange. We are dead in the water at this point. I checked the event logs and noticed we're getting a ton of Event ID's 13568. I thought it was a Journal Wrap error, and while I was going to try to fix it using this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762 I can't even do that because after I set the D4 value, then went to restart NTFRS from command prompt and I got the following: System Error 1059 has occurred. Circular service dependency was specified. That is where I'm at and haven't been able to figure anything else out. • luntbuild + maven + findbugs = OutOfMemoryException

  Hi, I've been trying to get Luntbuild to generate and publish a project site for our project including a Findbugs report. All other reports (Cobertura, Surefire, JavaDoc, Dashboard) work fine, but Findbugs bails out with an OutOfMemoryException. Excluding findbugs from report generation fixes the build --- although obviously without a Findbugs report. The funny thing is that I first encountered this problem locally and solved it by setting MAVEN_OPTS=-Xmx512m. This does not seem to be enough in Luntbuild, however: setting that exact same option as an environment variable of my builder doesn't make a difference. I've found a couple of posts on the 'net stating you should also add -XX:MaxPermSize=512m to MAVEN_OPTS and/or pass -Dmaven.findbugs.jvmargs=-Xmx512m to mvn.bat. None of these (or their combination) seem to help though so any hints would be greatly appreciated! • Mixing regular expression and other conditional expression in a bash if statement

  I can't get around this for quite sometime now. As I read along manuals and tutorials I'm getting more confused. I want an if statement with the following logic: if [ -n $drupal_version ] && [[ "$drupal_version" =~ DRUPAL-[6-9]-[1-9][1-9] ]]; then but I can't get it to work properly. When the script is evaluated using the "bash -x ... " script construct, works ok but when is run as a regular script my expression is not evaluated (eventhough the above condition should be met the else part is run). Could you provide any help?

• Schedule Task run Without Being Logged in

  I have seen similar threads here and on the net, but I think my question is slightly different than what I can find... I have a script that runs perfectly when logged in with a service account I created specifically to run this script. But when I schedule it to run it hangs when trying to launch IE (the first part of my script). Without being logged in with that account I can watch the processes with task manager and see the processes running, but the script never finishes. I want to be able to run this script without needing to be logged in at all or even have the account be locked all the times. Is this possible? Or do I have to have the user account logged in? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

• Dubious permissions on plist Problems installing Jenkins

  I am trying to install jenkins on 10.6.8 In order to do this I needed to modify the jenkins plist which was owned by root. I gave myself (the admin) permissions to modify this file and added the admin as the user in the plist for jenkins. Now the problem is that launchctrl sees my permission change as a security issue and will not launch something about dubious permissions on plist. I changed owner to root, and removed admin permission to write but launchctrl still views the permissions as dubious? Time for a reinstall? How should I have set the plist in the first place? and what should I do now?

• Is there anyway to make a Rails / Rack application tell the web server to drop the connection

  There are many security reasons why one would want to drop an HTTP connection with no response (eg. OWASP's SSL best practices). When these can be detected at the server level then it's no big deal. However, what if you can only detect this condition at the application level? Does Rails, or more generally Rack, have any standard way of telling the server to drop the connection without a response? If not, are there some standard headers to pass in that will accomplish that in common web servers (I'm thinking Nginx or Apache)? Even if there is not a standard header is there a reasonable way to configure that behavior? Is this a fool's errand?

  I've been conducting security scans, and a new one popped up for me: DNS Server Spoofed Request Amplification DDoS The remote DNS server answers to any request. It is possible to query the name servers (NS) of the root zone ('.') and get an answer which is bigger than the original request. By spoofing the source IP address, a remote attacker can leverage this 'amplification' to launch a denial of service attack against a third-party host using the remote DNS server. General Solution: Restrict access to your DNS server from public network or reconfigure it to reject such queries. I'm hosting my own DNS for my website. I'm not sure what the solution is here... But under XP the logic contained within FireAttackProc gets executed but none of the sound clips play. Is there a quick solution to this so the sound will play under XP? I ask for a quick solution because i am happy being able to execute fully in Vista/Win7 but would be great if there was a quick solution so it would be XP compitable also. Thank you.
