  • Whats the best windows explorer add in for Skydrive?

    - by Paul
I'm looking for good/safe/reliable windows explorer add in to use with SkyDrive. I found and I'm using Gladinet which allowed dragging of a folder plus contents into SkyDrive, but not dragging of folders containing folders, its working but it has also failed to transfer a few times as well. Anything better? That can drag folders containing other folders? Any comment on how safe they are (as you obviously need to enter your windows live password)

  • Microsoft Word Plugin for Web Mail

    - by PinkFlaminigo
I am 100% positive that I recently saw on the Internet a new plugin for MS Word which allowed the user to choose a Web Mail service such as Gmail or Ymail instead of Outlook or Live. Am I totally losing my sanity, and "it's just my 'magination runnin' away with me"? Thanks!

  • What directories I must backup for reinstalling Windows 7?

    - by gsc-frank
I'm reinstalling a Windows 7 PC and want backup all the system, application and users data to latter decide what data can be useful. What directories I must backup? I will format the PC and all importante data must be saved. I have doubts particularly about C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData and how save it using a Ubuntu live CD in case I don't have access to the Windows 7 PC. AppData have a lot of syslink inside!

  • Self Ad serving for Linux server

    - by protecttheweb
I am looking for ad serving software to serve my own ads. I am a newbie and just want your recommendation. Yes, I know about Google DFP but I want something non Google or something open source or for Linux servers. I want something kind of automatic like advertisers add the banner images or test ads and pay and ads are automatically served or can be set to draft until set to live. What recommendation do you have?

  • Repair corrupt hard disk on Mac without install CD

    - by Sarah
The hard disk of my late 2009 MacBook Pro appears to have become corrupted. I am traveling and do not have my install CD (and won't for several weeks, nor will I be anywhere near an Apple store). The hard disk is not the original, which failed in June 2011. It's some Hitachi replacement installed by IT. History: I was typing an email this afternoon, my computer suddenly started making soft clicking sounds and then froze. I was not moving around. I rebooted, which took a while. I heard more clicking sounds and the computer froze at least once again. It's now kind of working, with mdworker sucking up one CPU. There are no awkward hard drive sounds when I run Chrome or play music. However, when I launched Stickies, I found no trace of my saved Stickies. I ran a live disk verification from within Disk Utility, and it reported Problem: As reported, I don't have access to an installation disc and am nowhere near an area where I can get one for at least two weeks. I have the option of asking someone to go to some trouble and expense to get one for me, but I'm not sure it's worth it: I've read that I can use fsck from single-user mode to repair the disk. Should I just try this? Is it risky? I'm concerned that the clicky sound portends imminent (mechanical) hard drive failure, so it's not worth doing a silly repair. This hard disk is backed up, but I definitely won't be able to access the backup while traveling. I'd like to maximize the probability that I can keep using my computer (and all its current files) while traveling. Update I bit the bullet and ran fsck -fy from single-user mode. It only needed one pass (modification) to reach the "okay" stage. However, rebooting took nearly 5 min and involved several rounds of scratchy sounds and a few bad clicks. I'm now back to kind of using my computer (the same files are missing as before). When I ran live disk verification from Disk Utility this time, however, it reported that the volume appears to be OK. Am I right to infer from the scratchy sounds, however, that my hard drive is still rapidly on its way out? Is there anything else I can do to increase its functionality over the next few weeks?

  • Can't log into Windows XP

    - by lamcro
Immediately after choosing an account, and starting to log in, it shows the logging out message and goes back to the account selection display. This even happened in safe mode with the administrator's account. So I can't log in. I'll be using a Linux Live CD to extract the laptop's data. Could this be a virus or a hard disk problem? And what should I do?

  • Alias a linked Server in SQL server management studio?

    - by absentmindeduk
Hoping someone can help - is there a way in SQL server management studio 2008 R2 that I can alias a linked SQL server? I have a server, added by IP address, to which I do not have the login credentials - however as the connection is already setup I can login ok. Issue is that, this is a dev environment, prior to a live deployment and the IP I have as a linked server needs to be 'accessible' by my stored procs under a different name, eg 'myserver' not 192.168.xxx.xxx... Any help much appreciated.

  • With Ubuntu 12.04 unlike 11.04 Wine installed application start menu links are missing

    - by Ron Whites
With Ubuntu 12.04 and wine 1.4 unlike ubuntu 11.04 with wine 1.2.2 installed application start menu links are missing. For instance with Ubuntu 11.04 including Wine I can install one of our Windows applications and then can go to Applications Wine Programs Semantic Designs TestCoverage Documentation to bring up the documentation for how to run our tool. Unfortunately with Ubuntu 12.04 the Applications menu is gone and going to Dash I do see "Recent Apps and more apps" but my installed Wine application and related documentation link is shown present, even though the wine uninstaller shows in present. I found this online suggestion and tried using the gnome "main menu"... Windows key to launch the Dash. Enter "Main Menu" in the search field and open the old Edit Main Menu app. Select the Category (aka Unity Dash Filter) you want the item in. Name the Dash/Launcher Item Add the Command to launch said app With "mainmenu" then get down to the TestCoverage Documentation and I could see a command link in properties of .. env WINEPREFIX="/home/sdtest/.wine" wine C:\windows\command\start.exe /Unix /home/sdtest/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/sdtest/Start\ Menu/Programs/Semantic\ Designs/Test\ Coverage/Java\ 1.7\ Documentation.lnk BUT I could not execute this link to view the installed documentation. So I copied the link properties into a file, set it as executable, and ran it as a bash script and the documentation came up! So why can't I use this link under main menu?

  • Sync folder outside SkyDrive on OS X

    - by Asmodiel
After the recent 25 GB update, I wanted to sync my pictures with SkyDrive as I finally have enough space (My almost 10 GB Dropbox is full with other data and I need more than 10 GB for my pictures alone). Anyway, the symlink (ln -s) option is not really working as it just creates an alias inside the skydrive which is not even synchronised. Is there any other option or do I have to live with moving the pictures folder into SkyDrive (which I wouldn't really want to do).

  • get_iplayer _ new problem

    - by Squiggle
I have get_iplayer installed on a Windows 7 PC and, generally, it has worked without too many problems. Now I find that I cannot download "The Sinking of the Laconia" from the BBC. Both episodes are still available for viewing (although only episode 2 has a live ' download' option). An error message saying 'ERROR: RTMP_ReadPacket, failed to read RTMP packet header' may be relevant? If anyone can help before the programme becomes unavailable, I'd be grateful

  • Wireless connection silently dies randomly

    - by Force Flow
I have two WAP4410N wireless access points powered using Power-Over-Ethernet. They are both connected to the same LAN and broadcasting the same SSID with a WPA2 password. One is using channel 1, while the other is using channel 11. There is coverage overlap where the signal from both access points hover around -75db to -85db while standing in the same physical location. DHCP is disabled, and is being provided by another network device. Every day or so, devices can connect and authenticate to the access points, but are not granted an IP address (and subsequently are unable access to the LAN or Internet). For devices that had already retrieved an IP address prior to the issue exhibiting itself, the devices simply stop communicating with LAN and Internet. However, I can still access each access point's web admin interface from the LAN. If I reboot both devices, the problem vanishes and devices are once again able to get an IP address and connect to the LAN and Internet. Are these symptoms of signal interference between the two WAPs or is this a completely different issue?

  • What's the best approach when it comes to updating a production(on ec2) machine that can't go down?

    - by Ryan Detzel
We have three main servers on ec2, web, database, and search. I logged in today to find: 77 packages can be updated. 45 updates are security updates. which scares the crap out of me so I want to update these machines asap but I'm scared to just run the updates on a live running system. Is this safe to do, what's the best approach when it comes to doing security updates on production machines?

  • Scala n00b: Critique my code

    - by Peter
G'day everyone, I'm a Scala n00b (but am experienced with other languages) and am learning the language as I find time - very much enjoying it so far! Usually when learning a new language the first thing I do is implement Conway's Game of Life, since it's just complex enough to give a good sense of the language, but small enough in scope to be able to whip up in a couple of hours (most of which is spent wrestling with syntax). Anyhoo, having gone through this exercise with Scala I was hoping the Scala gurus out there might take a look at the code I've ended up with and provide feedback on it. I'm after anything - algorithmic improvements (particularly concurrent solutions!), stylistic improvements, alternative APIs or language constructs, disgust at the length of my function names - whatever feedback you've got, I'm keen to hear it! You should be able to run the following script via "scala GameOfLife.scala" - by default it will run a 20x20 board with a single glider on it - please feel free to experiment. // CONWAY'S GAME OF LIFE (SCALA) abstract class GameOfLifeBoard(val aliveCells : Set[Tuple2[Int, Int]]) { // Executes a "time tick" - returns a new board containing the next generation def tick : GameOfLifeBoard // Is the board empty? def empty : Boolean = aliveCells.size == 0 // Is the given cell alive? protected def alive(cell : Tuple2[Int, Int]) : Boolean = aliveCells contains cell // Is the given cell dead? protected def dead(cell : Tuple2[Int, Int]) : Boolean = !alive(cell) } class InfiniteGameOfLifeBoard(aliveCells : Set[Tuple2[Int, Int]]) extends GameOfLifeBoard(aliveCells) { // Executes a "time tick" - returns a new board containing the next generation override def tick : GameOfLifeBoard = new InfiniteGameOfLifeBoard(nextGeneration) // The next generation of this board protected def nextGeneration : Set[Tuple2[Int, Int]] = aliveCells flatMap neighbours filter shouldCellLiveInNextGeneration // Should the given cell should live in the next generation? protected def shouldCellLiveInNextGeneration(cell : Tuple2[Int, Int]) : Boolean = (alive(cell) && (numberOfAliveNeighbours(cell) == 2 || numberOfAliveNeighbours(cell) == 3)) || (dead(cell) && numberOfAliveNeighbours(cell) == 3) // The number of alive neighbours for the given cell protected def numberOfAliveNeighbours(cell : Tuple2[Int, Int]) : Int = aliveNeighbours(cell) size // Returns the alive neighbours for the given cell protected def aliveNeighbours(cell : Tuple2[Int, Int]) : Set[Tuple2[Int, Int]] = aliveCells intersect neighbours(cell) // Returns all neighbours (whether dead or alive) for the given cell protected def neighbours(cell : Tuple2[Int, Int]) : Set[Tuple2[Int, Int]] = Set((cell._1-1, cell._2-1), (cell._1, cell._2-1), (cell._1+1, cell._2-1), (cell._1-1, cell._2), (cell._1+1, cell._2), (cell._1-1, cell._2+1), (cell._1, cell._2+1), (cell._1+1, cell._2+1)) // Information on where the currently live cells are protected def xVals = aliveCells map { cell => cell._1 } protected def xMin = (xVals reduceLeft (_ min _)) - 1 protected def xMax = (xVals reduceLeft (_ max _)) + 1 protected def xRange = xMin until xMax + 1 protected def yVals = aliveCells map { cell => cell._2 } protected def yMin = (yVals reduceLeft (_ min _)) - 1 protected def yMax = (yVals reduceLeft (_ max _)) + 1 protected def yRange = yMin until yMax + 1 // Returns a simple graphical representation of this board override def toString : String = { var result = "" for (y <- yRange) { for (x <- xRange) { if (alive (x,y)) result += "# " else result += ". • Making hovor state of hidden list visible when page is active

    - by Joel
    Hi guys, One day I hope to not be such a newbie on this stuff, but some of this feels so insurmountable sometimes! OK. I have a nav bar with hidden li items that are visible when hovered over. Here's the live site: http://www.rattletree.com Here's the code for the nav: <ul id="navbar"> <li id="iex"><a href="index.php">About Rattletree</a></li> <li id="upcomgshows"><a href="upcomingshows.php">Calendar</a></li> <li id="sods"><a href="#">Sights &amp; Sounds</a> <ul class="innerlist"> <li class="innerlist"><img class="arrowAdjust" src="images/curved_arrow.png" alt="" /></li> <li class="innerlist"><a href="/playlist.m3u" target="_blank" onclick="javascript:BatmoAudioPop('Rattletree Marimba',this.href,'1'); return false">Listen</a></li> <li class="innerlist"><a href="/new_pictures.php">Photos</a></li> <li class="innerlist"><a href="/video.php">Video</a></li> <li class="innerlist"><a href="/press.php">Press</a></li> </ul> </li> <li id="bookin"><a href="#">Contact</a> <ul class="innerlist"> <li class="innerlist"><img class="arrowAdjust" src="images/curved_arrow.png" alt="" /></li> <li class="innerlist"><a href="/booking.php">Booking Info</a></li> <li class="innerlist"><a href="/media.php">Media Inquiries</a></li> </ul> </li> <li id="ste"> <a href="/sounds.php">Store</a></li> <li id="instrumes"><a href="/instruments.php">The Instruments</a></li> <li id="classe"><a href="classes.php">Workshops</a></li> </ul> css: div#navbar2 { background-color:#546F8B; border-bottom:1px solid #546F8B; border-top:1px solid #000000; display:inline-block; position:relative; width:100%; } div#navbar2 ul#navbar { color:#FFFFFF; font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:16px; letter-spacing:1px; margin:10px 0; padding:0; white-space:nowrap; } div#navbar2 ul#navbar li ul.innerlist { color:#000000; display:none; position:relative; z-index:20; } div#navbar2 ul#navbar li { display:inline; list-style-type:none; margin:0; padding:0; position:relative; } Now it's a bit tricky what I want to do: If a user navigates to one of the innerlist pages, I'd like that innerlist ul to remain visible (with the specific li displaying the hovered state). Now I think I could figure that out on my own, but you can see on the live page that if the user is on a page from the innerlist and that list was visible, then if they hovered over the other nav tab, then those innerlists would overlap. This is a problem. Hopefully that last sentence makes sense! In short: I need to keep the inner list of the active page displaying, BUT if the user hovers over another nav button WITH it's own inner list, then the live innerlist needs to disappear. Clear as mud?

  • Google Rules for Retail

    - by David Dorf
In the book What Would Google Do?, Jeff Jarvis outlines ten "Google Rules" that define how Google acts.  These rules help define how Web 2.0 businesses operate today and into the future.  While there's a chapter in the book on applying these rules to the retail industry, it wasn't very in-depth.  So I've decided to more directly apply the rules to retail, along with some notable examples of success.  The table below shows Jeff's Google Rule, some Industry Examples, and New Retailer Rules that I created.
