  • Developing a project which is an implementation of an open standard/protocol

    Hi, A lot of interesting code/projects are implementations of protocols, eg SNMP. How are projects like these, which depend on implementing a certain format, developed? Is the process something like get the guidelines of the protocol and then implement code which follows it. For example, XML-RPC is about transmitting XML docs between client/server, so the documentation on this protocol must outline the structure of the XML documents and then the way the transportation between client and server works, so the coder will implement this sort of functionality (xml doc construction, networking between the client and server). Projects I am thinking of (not to develop) are C# libraries which can interpret .PSDs, make VHDs, etc. So if I was to develop a C# app to implement .AI files (Illustrator files), what would be the steps I would look at (such as contacting Adobe, etc)? Is this the way such projects are developed?

  • keep keyboard open when deleting/inserting UITableView's cell (iphone)

    I have a login form using a UITableView. One of the cells has a UISwitch which when on will delete the row above it and when off reinsert it. But the first cell automatically has the keyboard up when the cell is created (basically when the view loads) (by using [cell becomeFirstResponder];) Inserting/deleting any of the cells means that the keyboard animates out and then animates back in. I'd like to remove this so the keyboard stays up while rows are deleted/inserted.

    Hi there! We are currently developing a apache2-based web application and want to invite some beta testers to give it a try. To be on the safe side, access should be provided by individual browser certificates (.p12) which are issued using a (fake) CA. Our users should be passing a complete register/login process and some of them will be granted administrative privileges within the application. That's why a preceding simple web-based authentication won't be sufficient. Atm, I using a serverside shellscript to generate the certificates each time. Do you know about a small, web-based tool to simplify the process of generating / revoking those certificates? Maybe an overview of the CA's index.txt plus the option to revoke a cert and a link to download them directly?

    Hi, Having an .html file is it possible to force the browser to treat the contents as XHTML? I mean the file opened from both local or web location. Maybe some on-the-fly convertion or something like that? The background: Firefox and Opera supports natively MathML when the code is embedded in a XHTML file. I need to get a .html file with MathML that would be supported by the mentioned browsers properly. Thank you for any support.

    I decided that I want to make a game for the iphone I was thinking of using oolong or sio2 any recommendations? Both have the problem of lack of tutorials, is it possible to somehow use a normal C++ game tutorial and integreate the engines rather than the one used in the tutorials? So if the C++ tutorial talks of creating an engine I can skip it and use sio2 or oolong? Thanks

  • Using R to open grib files

    I am using R to work with meteorological data. I proceed in two steps: 1- convert grib to netcdf using the commande line function ncl_convert2nc from ncar command language 2- use package ncdf in R to import the netcdf data. I have two problems: 1- I would like to do automatic treatment of many files within R. Can I call ncl_convert2nc within R ? 2- For some particular grib files, the convertion with ncar tool does not work. Is there other ways or trick (other than transcription into netcdf) to read grib files in R ?

    For example in C I have structure: typedef struct { int number; double x1; double y1; double x2; double y2; double x3; double y3; } CTRstruct;` Then I write it to file fwrite(&tr, 1, sizeof(tr), fp); (tr - its CTRstruct var, fp - File pointer); Then I need to read it with Java! I really don't know how to read struct from file... I tried to read it with ObjectInputStream(), last idea is to read with RandomAccessFile() but I also don't know how to... (readLong(), readDouble() also doesn't work, it works ofcource but doesn't read correct data). So, any idea how to read C struct from binary file with Java? Linux kernel deserve to have several books on its code, also these kind of project do deserve the same. And there are no unit tests available for this kind of projects. Say I'm going to read and understand the source code blender. How do I start. How to setup the development environment for developing the app? If it includes several dependencies, and assume that their source code also available how to setup this kind of inter-related, coherent source code to debug?
