  • java.awt.Desktop.open doesn’t work with PDF files?

    - by Jason S
    It looks like I cannot use Desktop.open() on PDF files regardless of location. Here's a small test program: package com.example.bugs; import java.awt.Desktop; import java.io.File; import java.io.IOException; public class DesktopOpenBug { static public void main(String[] args) { try { Desktop desktop = null; // Before more Desktop API is used, first check // whether the API is supported by this particular // virtual machine (VM) on this particular host. if (Desktop.isDesktopSupported()) { desktop = Desktop.getDesktop(); for (String path : args) { File file = new File(path); System.out.println("Opening "+file); desktop.open(file); } } } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } If I run DesktopOpenBug with arguments c:\tmp\zz1.txt c:\tmp\zz.xml c:\tmp\ss.pdf (3 files I happen to have lying around) I get this result: (the .txt and .xml files open up fine) Opening c:\tmp\zz1.txt Opening c:\tmp\zz.xml Opening c:\tmp\ss.pdf java.io.IOException: Failed to open file:/c:/tmp/ss.pdf. Error message: The parameter is incorrect. at sun.awt.windows.WDesktopPeer.ShellExecute(Unknown Source) at sun.awt.windows.WDesktopPeer.open(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Desktop.open(Unknown Source) at com.example.bugs.DesktopOpenBug.main(DesktopOpenBug.java:21) What the heck is going on? I'm running WinXP, I can type "c:\tmp\ss.pdf" at the command prompt and it opens up just fine. edit: if this is an example of Sun Java bug #6764271 please help by voting for it. What a pain. :(

  • vs2002: c# multi threading question..

    - by dotnet-practitioner
    I would like to invoke heavy duty method dowork on a separate thread and kill it if its taking longer than 3 seconds. Is there any problem with the following code? class Class1 { /// <summary> /// The main entry point for the application. /// </summary> /// [STAThread] static void Main(string[] args) { Console.WriteLine("starting new thread"); Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(dowork)); t.Start(); DateTime start = DateTime.Now; TimeSpan span = DateTime.Now.Subtract(start); bool wait = true; while (wait == true) { if (span.Seconds>3) { t.Abort(); wait = false; } span = DateTime.Now.Subtract(start); } Console.WriteLine("ending new thread after seconds = {0}", span.Seconds); Console.WriteLine("all done"); Console.ReadLine(); } static void dowork() { Console.WriteLine("doing heavy work inside hello"); Thread.Sleep(7000); Console.WriteLine("*** finished**** doing heavy work inside hello"); } }

  • Strange Puzzle - Invalid memory access of location

    - by Rob Graeber
    The error message I'm getting consistently is: Invalid memory access of location 0x8 rip=0x10cf4ab28 What I'm doing is making a basic stock backtesting system, that is iterating huge arrays of stocks/historical data across various algorithms, using java + eclipse on the latest Mac Os X. I tracked down the code that seems to be causing it. A method that is used to get the massive arrays of data and is called thousands of times. Nothing is retained so I don't think there is a memory leak. However there seems to be a set limit of around 7000 times I can iterate over it before I get the memory error. The weird thing is that it works perfectly in debug mode. Does anyone know what debug mode does differently in Eclipse? Giving the jvm more memory doesn't help, and it appears to work fine using -xint. And again it works perfectly in debug mode. public static List<Stock> getStockArray(ExchangeType e){ List<Stock> stockArray = new ArrayList<Stock>(); if(e == ExchangeType.ALL){ stockArray.addAll(getStockArray(ExchangeType.NYSE)); stockArray.addAll(getStockArray(ExchangeType.NASDAQ)); }else if(e == ExchangeType.ETF){ stockArray.addAll(etfStockArray); }else if(e == ExchangeType.NYSE){ stockArray.addAll(nyseStockArray); }else if(e == ExchangeType.NASDAQ){ stockArray.addAll(nasdaqStockArray); } return stockArray; } A simple loop like this, iterated over 1000s of times, will cause the memory error. But not in debug mode. for (Stock stock : StockDatabase.getStockArray(ExchangeType.ETF)) { System.out.println(stock.symbol); }

  • Learning Java Swing (GUI builder or not?)

    - by Paul
    Well I know basic Java and wanted to learn Swing so of course looked at the Sun website first, where this tutorial is. I was going to start it but realised it relied heavily on NetBeans, which I'm not sure about. I'm not sure because it's learning that I want to acheive, not a nice looking program. So I thought using NetBeans like this would be great once I know it, but I don't want to be building things without a clue what's going on underneath, and of course this could also cause problems later. My first question is is this the right way to do it, should I try not to rely on an IDE heavily? Looking through questions on the site most people recommend using the Sun tutorial, and I've only seen one answer that agrees with what I'm thinking, and they linked to this resource which looks promising. Or perhaps I'm getting the wrong idea of the Sun tutorial, perhaps it doesn't rely on the IDE, it just seemed like that. My second question is, if you agree with me, what resources (apart from the one above) would you recommend? Thanks for your answers.

  • Dont understand the concept of extends in URL.openConnection() in JAVA

    - by user1722361
    Hi I am trying to learn JAVA deeply and so I am digging into the JDK source code in the following lines: URL url = new URL("http://www.google.com"); URLConnection tmpConn = url.openConnection(); I attached the source code and set the breakpoint at the second line and stepped into the code. I can see the code flow is: URL.openConnection() - sun.net.www.protocol.http.Handler.openConnection() I have two questions about this First In URL.openConnection() the code is: public URLConnection openConnection() throws java.io.IOException { return handler.openConnection(this); } handler is an object of URLStreamHandler, define as blow transient URLStreamHandler handler; But URLStreamHandler is a abstract class and method openConnection() is not implement in it so when handler calls this method, it should go to find a subclass who implement this method, right? But there are a lot classes who implement this methods in sun.net.www.protocol (like http.Hanlder, ftp.Handler ) How should the code know which "openConnection" method it should call? In this example, this handler.openConnection() will go into http.Handler and it is correct. (if I set the url as ftp://www.google.com, it will go into ftp.Handler) I cannot understand the mechanism. second. I have attached the source code so I can step into the JDK and see the variables but for many classes like sun.net.www.protocol.http.Handler, there are not source code in src.zip. I googled this class and there is source code online I can get but why they did not put it (and many other classes) in the src.zip? Where can I find a comprehensive version of source code? Thanks!

  • What's new in Solaris 11.1?

    - by Karoly Vegh
    Solaris 11.1 is released. This is the first release update since Solaris 11 11/11, the versioning has been changed from MM/YY style to 11.1 highlighting that this is Solaris 11 Update 1.  Solaris 11 itself has been great. What's new in Solaris 11.1? Allow me to pick some new features from the What's New PDF that can be found in the official Oracle Solaris 11.1 Documentation. The updates are very numerous, I really can't include all.  I. New AI Automated Installer RBAC profiles have been introduced to enable delegation of installation tasks. II. The interactive installer now supports installing the OS to iSCSI targets. III. ASR (Auto Service Request) and OCM (Oracle Configuration Manager) have been enabled by default to proactively provide support information and create service requests to speed up support processes. This is optional and can be disabled but helps a lot in supportcases. For further information, see: http://oracle.com/goto/solarisautoreg IV. The new command svcbundle helps you to create SMF manifests without having to struggle with XML editing. (btw, do you know the interactive editprop subcommand in svccfg? The listprop/setprop subcommands are great for scripting and automating, but for an interactive property editing session try, for example, this: svccfg -s svc:/application/pkg/system-repository:default editprop )  V. pfedit: Ever wondered how to delegate editing permissions to certain files? It is well known "sudo /usr/bin/vi /etc/hosts" is not the right way, for sudo elevates the complete vi process to admin levels, and the user can "break" out of the session as root with simply starting a shell from that vi. Now, the new pfedit command provides a solution exactly to this challenge - an auditable, secure, per-user configurable editing possibility. See the pfedit man page for examples.   VI. rsyslog, the popular logging daemon (filters, SSL, formattable output, SQL collect...) has been included in Solaris 11.1 as an alternative to syslog.  VII: Zones: Solaris Zones - as a major Solaris differentiator - got lots of love in terms of new features: ZOSS - Zones on Shared Storage: Placing your zones to shared storage (FC, iSCSI) has never been this easy - via zonecfg.  parallell updates - with S11's bootenvironments updating zones was no problem and meant no downtime anyway, but still, now you can update them parallelly, a way faster update action if you are running a large number of zones. This is like parallell patching in Solaris 10, but with all the IPS/ZFS/S11 goodness.  per-zone fstype statistics: Running zones on a shared filesystems complicate the I/O debugging, since ZFS collects all the random writes and delivers them sequentially to boost performance. Now, over kstat you can find out which zone's I/O has an impact on the other ones, see the examples in the documentation: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26502_01/html/E29024/gmheh.html#scrolltoc Zones got RDSv3 protocol support for InfiniBand, and IPoIB support with Crossbow's anet (automatic vnic creation) feature.  NUMA I/O support for Zones: customers can now determine the NUMA I/O topology of the system from within zones.  VIII: Security got a lot of attention too:  Automated security/audit reporting, with builtin reporting templates e.g. for PCI (payment card industry) audits.  PAM is now configureable on a per-user basis instead of system wide, allowing different authentication requirements for different users  SSH in Solaris 11.1 now supports running in FIPS 140-2 mode, that is, in a U.S. government security accredited fashion.  SHA512/224 and SHA512/256 cryptographic hash functions are implemented in a FIPS-compliant way - and on a T4 implemented in silicon! That is, goverment-approved cryptography at HW-speed.  Generally, Solaris is currently under evaluation to be both FIPS and Common Criteria certified.  IX. Networking, as one of the core strengths of Solaris 11, has been extended with:  Data Center Bridging (DCB) - not only setups where network and storage share the same fabric (FCoE, anyone?) can have Quality-of-Service requirements. DCB enables peers to distinguish traffic based on priorities. Your NICs have to support DCB, see the documentation, and additional information on Wikipedia. DataLink MultiPathing, DLMP, enables link aggregation to span across multiple switches, even between those of different vendors. But there are essential differences to the good old bandwidth-aggregating LACP, see the documentation: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E26502_01/html/E28993/gmdlu.html#scrolltoc VNIC live migration is now supported from one physical NIC to another on-the-fly  X. Data management:  FedFS, (Federated FileSystem) is new, it relies on Solaris 11's NFS referring mechanism to join separate shares of different NFS servers into a single filesystem namespace. The referring system has been there since S11 11/11, in Solaris 11.1 FedFS uses a LDAP - as the one global nameservice to bind them all.  The iSCSI initiator now uses the T4 CPU's HW-implemented CRC32 algorithm - thus improving iSCSI throughput while reducing CPU utilization on a T4 Storage locking improvements are now RAC aware, speeding up throughput with better locking-communication between nodes up to 20%!  XI: Kernel performance optimizations: The new Virtual Memory subsystem ("VM2") scales now to 100+ TB Memory ranges.  The memory predictor monitors large memory page usage, and adjust memory page sizes to applications' needs OSM, the Optimized Shared Memory allows Oracle DBs' SGA to be resized online XII: The Power Aware Dispatcher in now by default enabled, reducing power consumption of idle CPUs. Also, the LDoms' Power Management policies and the poweradm settings in Solaris 11 OS will cooperate. XIII: x86 boot: upgrade to the (Grand Unified Bootloader) GRUB2. Because grub2 differs in the configuration syntactically from grub1, one shall not edit the new grub configuration (grub.cfg) but use the new bootadm features to update it. GRUB2 adds UEFI support and also support for disks over 2TB. XIV: Improved viewing of per-CPU statistics of mpstat. This one might seem of less importance at first, but nowadays having better sorting/filtering possibilities on a periodically updated mpstat output of 256+ vCPUs can be a blessing. XV: Support for Solaris Cluster 4.1: The What's New document doesn't actually mention this one, since OSC 4.1 has not been released at the time 11.1 was. But since then it is available, and it requires Solaris 11.1. And it's only a "pkg update" away. ...aand I seriously need to stop here. There's a lot I missed, Edge Virtual Bridging, lofi tuning, ZFS sharing and crypto enhancements, USB3.0, pulseaudio, trusted extensions updates, etc - but if I mention all those then I effectively copy the What's New document. Which I recommend reading now anyway, it is a great extract of the 300+ new projects and RFE-followups in S11.1. And this blogpost is a summary of that extract.  For closing words, allow me to come back to Request For Enhancements, RFEs. Any customer can request features. Open up a Support Request, explain that this is an RFE, describe the feature you/your company desires to have in S11 implemented. The more SRs are collected for an RFE, the more chance it's got to get implemented. Feel free to provide feedback about the product, as well as about the Solaris 11.1 Documentation using the "Feedback" button there. Both the Solaris engineers and the documentation writers are eager to hear your input.Feel free to comment about this post too. Except that it's too long ;)  wbr,charlie

  • Block-level deduplicating filesystem

    - by James Haigh
    I'm looking for a deduplicating copy-on-write filesystem solution for general user data such as /home and backups of it. It should use online/inline/synchronous deduplication at the block-level using secure hashing (for negligible chance of collisions) such as SHA256 or TTH. Duplicate blocks need not even touch the disk. The idea is that I should be able to just copy /home/<user> to an external HDD with the same such filesystem to do a backup. Simple. No messing around with incremental backups where corruption to any of the snapshots will nearly always break all later snapshots, and no need to use a specific tool to delete or 'checkout' a snapshot. Everything should simply be done from the file browser without worry. Can you imagine how easy this would be? I'd never have to think twice about backing-up again! I don't mind a performance hit, reliability is the main concern. Although, with specific implementations of cp, mv and scp, and a file browser plugin, these operations would be very fast, especially when there is a lot of duplication as they would only need to transfer the absent blocks. Accidentally using conventional copy tools that do not integrate with the FS would merely take longer, waste some bandwidth when copying remotely and waste some CPU, as the duplicate data would be re-read, re-transferred and re-hashed (although nothing would be re-written), but would absolutely not corrupt anything. (Some filesharing software may also be able to benefit by integrating with the FS.) So what's the best way of doing this? I've looked at some options: lessfs - Looks unmaintained. Any good? [Opendedup/SDFS][3] - Java? Could I use this on Android?! What does [SDFS][4] stand for? [Btrfs][5] - Some patches floating around on mailing list archives, but no real support. [ZFS][6] - Hopefully they'll one day relicense under a true Free/Opensource GPL-compatible licence. Also, 2 years ago I had a go at an attempt in Python using Fuse at the file-level to be used over the top of a typical solid FS such as EXT4, but I found Fuse for Python underdocumented and didn't manage to implement all of the system calls. My first post here, so I can't post more than 2 links until I get over 10 rep: [3]: http://www.opendedup.org/ [4]: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=SDFS&action=edit&redlink=1 [5]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Btrfs#Features [6]: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZFS#Linux

  • Great Solaris 10 features paving the way to Solaris 11

    - by Larry Wake
    Karoly Vegh writes on the Oracle Systems Blog Austria about what you can do with Solaris 10 today that will get you ready for Solaris 11. Even today, many people still use Solaris 10 as if it were a patch update to Solaris 8 or 9, missing out on the power behind Live Upgrade, Zones, resource management, and ZFS. Learning more about these will help set your feet on the road to the even more sophisticated capabilities of Oracle Solaris 11. [Read More]

  • External USB drive is failing

    - by dma_k
    I have an external USB 2.0 drive WD My Book Mirror Edition, running in RAID 1 (mirroring) mode. A while ago the hard drive started to fail: it stops responding (directories are not listed returning an error after a big timeout). Sometimes it works for weeks before a failure, sometimes – few hours. Small write operations (like removing few files or editing a small file) do not harm, but when copying large files to the drive over the network, or creating the archive locally, the kernel dumps. Also interesting to note that once kernel has failed, Linux does not want to reboot normally (reboot hangs); when Linux box is shutdown with power button, WD drive does not go to sleep mode (as it usually does): leds continue to run, pressing and holding the "shutdown" button on drive's back panel does not do anything; only unplugging the power cord helps. I have browsed and read similar error reports here and there and I tried: I have upgraded the kernel from v2.6.26-2 to 2.6.32-5, which has not solved the problem. They say, this might a cable problem. I have tried to replace the USB-to-miniUSB cable (that connects external drive with computer) with another one. No changes. Somebody suggests to try another USB port. I have only 4 external USB ports, tried another one with no success. They say to try uhci_hcd. I have unmounted the device, unloaded ehci_hcd and mounted again. The difference was that now in log I get reset full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 2 and similar kernel dumps after a while. They say to echo 128 > /sys/block/sdb/device/max_sectors. I tried it with ehci_hcd with no success (note: I have issued this command after the drive was mounted but before using it actively). I have lauched smartmond and checking periodically the output of smartctl: drive temperature is OK, number of bad sectors and uncorrectable errors is 0. Nothing suspicious is reported by S.M.A.R.T. except maybe the following: Aug 16 12:40:12 kernel: [43715.314566] program smartctl is using a deprecated SCSI ioctl, please convert it to SG_IO Aug 16 12:40:13 kernel: [43715.705622] program smartctl is using a deprecated SCSI ioctl, please convert it to SG_IO Of course, I have not tried all combinations of above. But unfortunately, I am run out of cardinal ideas. If anybody can advice something specific about the problem, you are very welcome.

  • Releasing an OLE IStorage file handle in C#

    - by Bernard Darnton
    I'm trying to embed a PDF file into a Word document using the OLE technique described here: http://blogs.msdn.com/brian_jones/archive/2009/07/21/embedding-any-file-type-like-pdf-in-an-open-xml-file.aspx I've tried to implement to C++ code provided in C# so that the whole project's in one place and am almost there except for one roadblock. When I try to feed the generated OLE object binary data into the Word document I get an IOException. IOException: The process cannot access the file 'C:\Wherever\Whatever.pdf.bin' because it is being used by another process. There is a file handle open the .bin file and I don't know how to get rid of it. I don't know a huge amount about COM - I'm winging it here - and I don't know where the file handle is or how to release it. Here's what my C#-ised code looks like. What am I missing? public void ExportOleFile(string oleOutputFileName, string emfOutputFileName) { OLE32.IStorage storage; var result = OLE32.StgCreateStorageEx( oleOutputFileName, OLE32.STGM.STGM_READWRITE | OLE32.STGM.STGM_SHARE_EXCLUSIVE | OLE32.STGM.STGM_CREATE | OLE32.STGM.STGM_TRANSACTED, OLE32.STGFMT.STGFMT_DOCFILE, 0, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero, ref OLE32.IID_IStorage, out storage ); var CLSID_NULL = Guid.Empty; OLE32.IOleObject pOle; result = OLE32.OleCreateFromFile( ref CLSID_NULL, _inputFileName, ref OLE32.IID_IOleObject, OLE32.OLERENDER.OLERENDER_NONE, IntPtr.Zero, null, storage, out pOle ); result = OLE32.OleRun(pOle); IntPtr unknownFromOle = Marshal.GetIUnknownForObject(pOle); IntPtr unknownForDataObj; Marshal.QueryInterface(unknownFromOle, ref OLE32.IID_IDataObject, out unknownForDataObj); var pdo = Marshal.GetObjectForIUnknown(unknownForDataObj) as IDataObject; var fetc = new FORMATETC(); fetc.cfFormat = (short)OLE32.CLIPFORMAT.CF_ENHMETAFILE; fetc.dwAspect = DVASPECT.DVASPECT_CONTENT; fetc.lindex = -1; fetc.ptd = IntPtr.Zero; fetc.tymed = TYMED.TYMED_ENHMF; var stgm = new STGMEDIUM(); stgm.unionmember = IntPtr.Zero; stgm.tymed = TYMED.TYMED_ENHMF; pdo.GetData(ref fetc, out stgm); var hemf = GDI32.CopyEnhMetaFile(stgm.unionmember, emfOutputFileName); storage.Commit((int)OLE32.STGC.STGC_DEFAULT); pOle.Close(0); GDI32.DeleteEnhMetaFile(stgm.unionmember); GDI32.DeleteEnhMetaFile(hemf); }

  • jets3t and Downloading Files from AmazonS3 with Different Name

    - by Gregg
    We're using AmazonS3 for file storage and recently found out that we need to keep some sort of directory structure. Since S3 doesn't allow that, we know we can name the files according to their structure for storage. For example... abc/123/draft.doc What I want to know is if I want to provide a public link to this particular file is there anyway that the file can simply be draft.doc instead of abc/123/draft.doc ?

This results in the following error: TypeError: can't convert nil into String from /Work/project/src/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/storage.rb:40:in `dirname' from /Work/project/src/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/storage.rb:40:in `flush_writes' from /Work/project/src/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/storage.rb:38:in `each' from /Work/project/src/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/storage.rb:38:in `flush_writes' from /Work/project/src/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/attachment.rb:144:in `save' from /Work/project/src/vendor/plugins/paperclip/lib/paperclip/attachment.rb:162:in `destroy' from /Work/project/src/app/models/user.rb:72:in `before_save' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/callbacks.rb:347:in `send' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/callbacks.rb:347:in `callback' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/callbacks.rb:249:in `create_or_update' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2538:in `save_without_validation' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/validations.rb:1078:in `save_without_dirty' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/dirty.rb:79:in `save_without_transactions' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:229:in `send' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:229:in `with_transaction_returning_status' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/connection_adapters/abstract/database_statements.rb:136:in `transaction' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:182:in `transaction' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:228:in `with_transaction_returning_status' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:196:in `save' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:208:in `rollback_active_record_state!' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/transactions.rb:196:in `save' from /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:723:in `create' I assume it has something to do with the avatar.dirty? value because when it certainly is true when this happens. The question is, how do I totally reset the thing if there are changes to be saved and abort avatar upload when the flag is set?

  • ASP.NET MVC CookieTempDataProvider: any experience?

    - by Igor Brejc
    UPDATE: looks like I've misunderstood what TempData is for and what it isn't. It definitively shouldn't be used to "keep certain session-wide data" as I asked initially (see ASP.NET MVC TempData Is Really RedirectData why). I've modified the question accordingly. Has anyone used CookieTempDataProvider for TempData storage? Are there any caveats to watch out for (apart from keeping the session storage small)? Any issues with using it on Web farms?

  • How to make per- http Request cache in ASP.NET 3.5

    - by Artem
    We using ASP.NET 3.5 (Controls-based apporach) and need to have storage specific for one http request only. Thread-specific cache with keys from session id won't work because threads are supposed to be pooled and therefore I have a chance to have data from some previous request in cache, which is undesireble in my case. I always need to have brand new storage for each request available through whole request. Any ideas how to do it in ASP.NET 3.5?

  • Windows Azure role is state full or not

    - by taimoor-haider
    According to MSDN, an azure service can conatins any number of worker roles. According to my knowledge a worker role can be recycled at any time by Windows Azure Fabric. If it is the true, then: Worker role should be state less OR Worker role should persist its state to Windows Azure storage services. But i want to make a service which conatains client data and do not want to use Azure storage service. How I can accomplish this?

  • How to bind to localStorage change event using jQuery for all browsers?

    - by David Glenn
    How do I bind a function to the HTML5 localStorage change event using jQuery? $(function () { $(window).bind('storage', function (e) { alert('storage changed'); }); localStorage.setItem('a', 'test'); }); I've tried the above but the alert is not showing. Update: It works in Firefox 3.6 but it doesn't work in Chrome 8 or IE 8 so the question should be more 'How to bind to localStorage change event using jQuery for all browsers?'
